Truth behind Phil Collins recovering in hospital after hospice care rumours

Phil Collins is currently recuperating in hospital after having an operation on his knee, his representative has confirmed. The former Genesis frontman was the subject of rumours last week that he was receiving hospice careAndy Gilpin Deputy Editor in Chief and Bang Showbiz09:47, 28 Jul 2025Updated 09:48, 28 Jul 2025British singer Phil Collins performs live on stage in 2019(Image: Getty Images)Phil Collins is on the mend following knee surgery. The 74-year-old star, who earlier this year shared that he’s “very sick”, was at the centre of false online whispers last week claiming he was in hospice care. However, his spokesperson has told The Independent that this simply isn’t true.Instead, the ex-Genesis lead is in hospital recovering from a knee operation. Phil, battling type 2 diabetes and enduring the aftermath of a 2007 spinal surgery which has left him struggling to even grip a drumstick, confessed to MOJO magazine that his health woes have quashed his desire to make music. He said: “I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens. But I’m not hungry for it anymore. The thing is, I’ve been sick, I mean very sick.”(Image: BANG Showbiz)The In the Air Tonight legend still hopes of drumming again, but sadly feels he’s “used up my air miles”.In the documentary Phil Collins: Drummer First, he reflected: “It’s still kind of sinking in a bit… I’ve spent all my life playing drums. To suddenly not be able to do that is a shock.”Having picked up his first drumsticks at the age of five, Phil acknowledges the intense drumming has “taken its toll” on his hands and legs. On his decision to retire, he remarked: “If I can’t do what I did as well as I did it, I’d rather relax and not do anything.”If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks then I’ll have a crack at it. But I just feel like I’ve used up my air miles.”Article continues belowPhil has been battling health issues for years, ever since he sustained an injury to a vertebra in his upper neck during a 2009 performance. In 2011, he had to take a step back from the limelight due to severe nerve damage that left him unable to drum, although he made a comeback in 2015.While discussing Genesis’ comeback gigs, he admitted: “I’m kind of physically challenged a bit which is very frustrating because I’d love to be playing up there with my son.” More

Martine McCutcheon’s mum says ‘I miss her so much’ after devastating family rift

Martine McCutcheon and her mum, Jenny Tomlin, were once inseparable – but a family tragedy led to a devastating breakdown. Now heartbroken Jenny is desperate for a reconciliation09:15, 28 Jul 2025Martine and her mum lost contact after the death of her brother LJMartine McCutcheon and her mother, Jenny Tomlin, were once inseparable, but a sudden family death led to a heartbreaking fallout. Now, a distraught Jenny is hoping for reconciliation.”There was nothing she didn’t include me in,” shares Jenny. “We did all the wonderful stuff – the premiere of Love Actually, the restaurants – but the memories I cherish are of us just sitting on my bed, bringing up old memories and laughing. I miss that.”Their bond began to crumble following the tragic passing of Martine’s brother Laurence John – affectionately known as LJ – in 2022, at the tender age of 31. Jenny admits she experienced an emotional breakdown and pushed Martine away, with the star publicly mourning her brother.Martine McCutcheon’s mum accepts she ‘abandoned’ her daughter(Image: Getty Images)In an interview with OK!, 69-year-old Jenny expressed her desire to apologise to 49-year-old Martine for distancing herself, reports the Mirror.”When I lost LJ, I detached. I was so heartbroken I couldn’t talk to Martine,” she confesses. “There was no big row – Martine tried to contact me for months, but I didn’t answer. Martine was grieving and needed me, too.”I want the chance to say sorry.I miss her so much – it physically hurts.”Jenny and Martine did have a brief encounter last October, but it wasn’t the reunion Jenny had hoped for. Martine had asked if Jenny’s husband Alan could come and do some work at her new home, which Jenny had been excited to do. Sadly, the reunion was awkward for them.Jenny spoke of the discussions about Christmas arrangements, yet nothing was set in stone. It was at that point, she recalled, that a profound silence set in. Reflecting on Victoria Beckham’s well-documented family troubles, Jenny empathised: “I understand the pain Victoria Beckham is going through over her estrangement from Brooklyn. He was her firstborn, too. It’s a heartbreaking situation for anybody who is estranged or has lost their child.”Jenny vividly remembers the day LJ passed away, recounting the phone call from his fiancée informing her that he had collapsed and couldn’t be revived. Clad in her pyjamas, she made the hour-and-a-half journey from Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire to LJ’s place by the Essex coast, only to find she was too late.Jenny is hoping Martine will get in touch(Image: Getty Images)”It was like a nightmare. I couldn’t believe my boy was gone.”An autopsy revealed that LJ – who was neither a smoker nor a drinker – had died from acute ischaemic heart disease and diabetes. Jenny called Martine from the scene, but was so overwhelmed with grief that her daughter had to talk to the paramedics to understand what had occurred. In the early hours, Jenny drove to Martine’s house.”She looked at me and realised I needed looking after,” Jenny recalled. “She’d prepared the spare room, stroked my hair, gave me a cuddle and, somehow, I slept.”LJ was buried on October 31, 2022.Martine, known for her role as Tiffany Mitchell in EastEnders between 1994 and 1998, was just 15 when LJ was born, and Jenny remembers how she took on a motherly role towards him. Since LJ’s passing, Jenny has been crippled by anxiety, which she believes is why she hasn’t seen her daughter or her 10-year-old grandson, Rafferty, for such a long time.”I didn’t contact Martine,” she confessed. “I abandoned her. I was so wrapped up in my own grief that I was neglecting my other child. That was the start of it, and things just… snowballed. And here we are.”Jenny, an author of novels and memoirs including Behind Closed Doors, which details the abuse she endured as a child, said she has tried to reach out to Martine recently – making calls, sending texts, and posting cards – but claimed she has received no reply.Martine’s brother LJ died at the age of 31(Image: martinemccutcheon/Instagram )She hopes that with her speaking out, Martine may get in touch. In recent times, Jenny has begun to feel more like herself and is even penning a memoir about her life with LJ, yet the remorse over her estrangement from Martine lingers. “I let Martine down. There’s not a day goes by when I don’t think of her.”Jenny refuses to comment on the end of Martine’s 18-year relationship with musician Jack McManus, respecting their privacy: “That’s between Martine and Jack,” she states firmly.Despite the challenges, Jenny’s resolve to reconnect with her daughter remains unshaken: “I don’t think I’ll ever stop trying when it comes to my girl. If I could speak to Martine, I’d tell her how sorry I am. I’ve lost one child, I don’t want to lose another.”Article continues belowWant all the biggest Showbiz and TV news straight to your inbox? During the noughties, when the band had topped the charts with their debut album and landed a flurry of Top 10 hits, they could’ve “worked with anyone”.Roy told Daily Star: “Honestly I had the opportunity then to have worked with anyone in the world, like, really I could’ve worked with Max Martin or like any songwriter in the world.“I was just like because I’d written all the first album myself I was like, ‘No, I just write it all by myself.’“And now I spend such a great portion of my time writing songs for other people, which I love. I do wish I’d used that opportunity there to have worked with amazing artists.”The band give the fans what they want, all the hits and new music too(Image: Daniel Bird / Daily Star)It could’ve been the band’s best chance to crack America which Roy admitted they were quite naive about. He added: “With America, it’s not like we just thought that it would happen, but you do, when you’re in that bubble of being one of the biggest bands in the country, you just assume, you do.”Scouting For Girls delivered rocking sets at Latitude and Truck festival over the weekend and Roy reckons the reason why they are still booked for these big-ticket events year after year is that they put the fans first. He said: “We’re not trying to fob anyone off, so if you like new music and you’re a big fan, there’s good stuff coming out, but we always do a show where we’re playing the hits as well.“I try to be the band, I do everything in this band that I wish the bands that I loved would do, I play the hits, but do really good new music, and really interesting on socials too.”Scouting For Girls are also at Kendal Calling, Big Feastival, Victorious and many more events this summer.Beyonce reunites Destiny’s ChildBeyonce got Destiny’s Child back together(Image: Getty Images)Destiny’s Child reunited for Beyoncé’s final Cowboy Carter tour date. She performed with old bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams for the first time in a decade for a grand goodbye in Las Vegas. The girls came out during the end of the 44-song set to sing Lose My Breath, Energy and Bootylicious.Beyonce was once again joined on stage by her 13-year-old daughter Blue Ivy who has provided back-up dancing throughout the tour, and she could be seen getting visibly emotional as the performance came to an end.Closing the show, Bey gushed: “Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make this reality, I am so deeply grateful.”Elton John’s “hurtful” rehab comment sparked falloutElton John’s comments upset Billy Joel(Image: AFP via Getty Images)Billy Joel has opened up about what “hurtful” comment caused tension between himself and Elton John.He spoke about their fallout in the second part of his documentary Billy Joel: And So It Goes, saying Elton’s public comments about his drinking upset him.Billy recalled: “Elton had made a comment that he thought I needed real rehab.“He chalked it up to, ‘Oh, he’s a drunk.’ And that really hurt me.“I said, ‘Wait a minute? Black Sabbath’s bassist and songwriter, Geezer Butler, has paid tribute to his late bandmate, Ozzy Osbourne, in a heartfelt essay, reflecting on their “57 incredible years of friendship”04:57, 28 Jul 2025Geezer Butler has wrote of his heartache losing Ozzy OsbourneBlack Sabbath’s bassist, Terence “Geezer” Butler, penned a touching tribute to frontman Ozzy Osbourne in The Sunday Times, reflecting on their “57 incredible years of friendship”.The rock legend passed away on 22 July at the age of just 76, just a fortnight after Black Sabbath’s final gig.The English metal legend wrote: “I didn’t realise then that I would never see Ozzy again after that night.” Geezer and Ozzy, alongside Tony Iommi and Bill Ward, formed the legendary band in 1968, initially named The Polka Tulk Blues Band, then Earth, before finally settling on Black Sabbath in August 1969.The musicians have been friends for almost 60 yearsHe recalled how Ozzy turned up barefoot at his house, prompting him to ask him to join the band.Geezer, 76, wrote: “To me, Ozzy wasn’t the Prince of Darkness – if anything, he was the Prince of Laughter. He’d do anything for a laugh, a born entertainer.”The Black Sabbath bassist and songwriter looked back on the events leading up to their final performance on 5 July, which began a month earlier during rehearsals. He admitted: “I knew he wasn’t in good health, but I wasn’t prepared to see how frail he was.”He was assisted into the rehearsal room by two helpers and a nurse and was using a cane – being Ozzy, the cane was black and studded with gold and precious stones.”He didn’t really say much beyond the usual greetings, and when he sang, he sat in a chair.”Ozzy sat on the throne for the Back to Beginning final show(Image: Ross Halfin)He described them running through songs but noticed that Ozzy was exhausted after six or seven, and said Ozzy was really quiet compared to his old self.Gezzer added: “The strangest part of that show was the end. Normally, we would all hug each other and take a bow to the audience, but Ozzy was on his throne and we hadn’t thought that out. What do we do? Tony shook his hand, I presented him with a cake, but it was such a strange feeling to end our story like that.”I wish I’d had more time backstage with Ozzy, but wishes are redundant now. As Ozzy used to say: ‘Wish in one hand and s*** in the other and see which comes first.'””Nobody knew he’d be gone from us little more than two weeks after the final show. But I am so grateful we got to play one last time together in front of his beloved fans.”Article continues belowGeezer said he was “privileged” to spend most of his life with Ozzy.He ended the piece with: “God bless, Oz, it has been one hell of a ride!
