      'Bad Boys for Life' Secures Top Spot at Box Office for a Second Weekend

      Hauling in $34 million, the third installment in the ‘Bad Boys’ film series keeps Sam Mendes’ ‘1917’ off the No. 1 slot in addition to beating out ‘Dr. Dolittle’ and ‘The Gentlemen’.

      AceShowbiz – The “Bad Boys” have beaten out Dr. Dolittle and “The Gentlemen” for the top spot at the box office in North America.
      Sony’s “Bad Boys for Life”, starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, has hauled in $34 million (£26 million) to score a second weekend at number one, keeping Sam Mendes’ “1917” off the top, while Guy Ritchie’s star-studded new movie, “The Gentlemen”, has debuted at four.
      “Dolittle”, starring Robert Downey Jr., lands at three, and “Jumanji: The Next Level” rounds out the new top five.
      The “Bad Boys” sequel has now picked up $130 million (£99.4 million) in 10 days in North America.

      This Sergio Pablos-directed film, which happens to be Netflix’s first original animated feature, sweeps the annual prizegiving by landing seven wins, including Best Animated Feature.

      AceShowbiz – Christmas film “Klaus” was the big winner at the 47th annual Annie Awards on Saturday night (January 25), taking home seven honours, including Best Animated Feature.
      The movie, Netflix’s first original animated feature, beat out “Frozen II”, “Toy Story 4” and “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” to dominate the ceremony and leave the Oscars’ animation category wide open.
      Director and co-writer Sergio Pablos’ film about a hapless and lazy postal worker, who stumbles upon an idea to give kids gifts at Christmas, also landed awards for direction, editing, storyboarding, production design, character animation and character design.
      There was also a big win for Josh Gad, who won the Voice Performance honour for his role as “Frozen II” snowman Olaf.
      The 2020 ceremony was dedicated to animator Richard Williams, who died in August (2019).

      Robert Zemeckis has officially been signed on to sit behind the lens for the upcoming Disney movie while his frequent collaborator Tom Hanks is in talks to play Geppetto.

      AceShowbiz – Oscar-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis has officially signed on to direct Disney’s live-action remake of “Pinocchio”.
      The “Back to the Future” and “Forrest Gump” director will also co-write the latest adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s story about the puppet who becomes a real boy.
      Sam Mendes and Paul King were both previously attached to the project. King stepped down at the beginning of last year 2019.
      Tom Hanks was in talks to portray Pinocchio’s carpenter creator Geppetto in the film, but it is unclear if the project is moving forward with the Oscar-winning star of Zemeckis’ “Forrest Gump”, “Cast Away”, and “The Polar Express”.
      The live-action movie is not the only Pinocchio project in the works – Guillermo del Toro has teamed up with Netflix bosses to make his animated feature film directing debut with a revamped version of the story.

      The former James Bond director has taken home the top honor for his movie ‘1917’, beating his rivals Bong Joon-Ho, Quentin Tarantino, and Martin Scorsese.

      AceShowbiz – Sam Mendes took home the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film prize for his war epic “1917” at the 2020 Directors Guild of America (DGA) Awards on Saturday, January 25, 2020.
      The star beat off fierce competition from Bong Joon-Ho’s Neon’s “Parasite”, Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, and Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” for the award, and thanked his grandfather as he took the stage.
      “My grandfather inspired this film, and he made me when I was 12 sign a contract promising I would write a novel by the age of 18,” he said. “Obviously I’m not a freak, so I didn’t do that, but I did do this.”
      Sam’s victory comes hot off his success at the Producers Guild Awards (PGA) last weekend, leaving the filmmaker a frontrunner for Oscars success next month.
      Meanwhile, Alma Har’el also enjoyed a successful night, winning the Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-Time Feature Film Director award for Amazon’s “Honey Boy”, which started as notes from Shia LaBeouf who was doing a writing assignment for his court-ordered rehab.
      Steven Bognar and Julia Reichert were also recognised for their Netflix documentary movie, “American Factory”.
      On the TV side of things, HBO dominated with four of the 11 total categories on offer. Bill Hader took home the Comedy Series prize for “Barry”; Johan Renck was recognised for “Chernobyl” in the TV Movie/Limited Series category; Nicole Kassell won for her episode of “Watchmen” in Dramatic Series; and Amy Schatz won her sixth DGA Award for “Song of Parkland” in the Children’s Program race.
      Don Roy King also won his fifth DGA Award for “Saturday Night Live” ‘s fall finale, which featured returning host Eddie Murphy and musical guest Lizzo.

      The scribe behind Brie Larson-fronted superhero movie is working with another screenwriter who is developing Marvel’s ‘Silver Sable’ for the upcoming Disney reboot.

      AceShowbiz – The screenwriter behind hit blockbuster “Captain Marvel” has been tasked with penning a remake of animated Disney classic “Bambi”.
      Geneva Robertson-Dworet will team up with Lindsey Beer, who wrote Tom Holland’s upcoming film “Chaos Walking” and is developing a script for Marvel movie “Untitled Silver Sable and The Black Cat Project”, to rework the 1942 picture as a live-action project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
      “Bambi”, which follows a young fawn exploring the forest, is the latest Disney property to be revamped as a live-action picture following the success of 2016’s “The Jungle Book”, and last year’s “Aladdin”, and “The Lion King”.
      “The Little Mermaid”is also being rebooted for the big screen, with singer/actress Halle Bailey set to portray titular Princess Ariel, and “A Dog’s Way Home” actor Jonah Hauer-King cast as Prince Eric.

      AceShowbiz – Taraji P. Henson could be set to channel late diva Whitney Houston on the big screen, if the singer’s sister-in-law Pat gets her way.
      Pat is working closely with record executive Clive Davis, who played a key role in the “I Have Nothing” star’s rise to success, on the upcoming project, and told TMZ her hopes for the planned movie.
      While the film is in its early stages, she teased the pair are considering several “options” to play the leading role, before adding, “I love Taraji P. Henson.”
      She added, “Taraji is my girl.”
      Pat was also full of praise for Clive, who she described as a “wonderful person.”
      “Let me just say this… We have a wonderful relationship,” she said, adding, “Anything that we can do for him… it’s done. ”
      Whitney passed away at the age of 48 after she was found unconscious in a bathtub on 11 February, 2012. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office listed her death as an “accident” caused by drowning and the “effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use,” while toxicology results discovered substances including Benadryl and Xanax in her system.

      AceShowbiz – “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” director Marielle Heller forced Tom Hanks to sing live on set as it’s what his character Fred Rogers did.
      Tom plays the beloved children’s entertainer in the new film – a role for which he has bagged a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Oscars – but Marielle reveals the performance was far from effortless for the star.
      The filmmaker says she insisted he sing the theme to the show “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” live, and that it took a huge number of takes to get right.
      “We made him sing live, which you don’t usually make movie stars do, but it’s what Fred did so it’s what we wanted to do,” she tells The Guardian. “It was genuinely tricky. We did 22 takes, the most takes I think I’ve ever done of any scene in my life.”
      Although Tom is famously easygoing, he still had to rein in his natural enthusiasm to play the naturally relaxed and reassuring Rogers.
      Explaining his process, Marielle adds,”It was almost like it was a martial art,” explaining that the Forrest Gump star was “genuinely slowing his heart rate down, slowing his energy down” during his performance.
