Upon waking in the morning, he recites: “I am light! I am truth! I am might! I am youth!” — his stab at a “Leaves of Grass”-style song of himself. This is the only actual poetry, such as it is, concocted by its title “sad poet.” (Dr. Bird is an imaginary therapist, taking the form of a pigeon.) For James, figuring out social relationships, particularly with the opposite sex, and negotiating family problems, of which he has plenty, occupy more of his time than writing. And because James has depression and anxiety, these emotional concerns are tougher on him than other adolescents.[embedded content]This sounds familiar, and it is. But “Dr. Bird’s Advice for Sad Poets,” written and directed by Yaniv Raz from a novel by Evan Roskos, aims to lend its commonplace elements distinction via a lot of filmmaking frippery. As he pursues a potential new girlfriend, Sophie (Taylor Russell), and searches for his runaway older sister, we see the way James sees, or would like to see. A girl’s irises are overlaid by images of daisies. The incarnation of Walt Whitman appears in sepia-tinted fantasy sequences. James and Sophie’s dates become a French-style black-and-white romance, or a colorful dance number. The movie gets so drunk on its stylistic affectations (and unfunny attempts at cerebral comedy) that by the time it sobers up to take James’s mental health seriously, it’s too little, too late. And also too bad, as it’s only in the last quarter that the viewer gets to appreciate the range of the movie’s appealing lead players.Dr. Bird’s Advice for Sad PoetsRated R for language, themes, sexuality. Ryan Reynolds Jokes About Manipulating Disney Into Agreeing to 'Deadpool 3' R-Rating

    20th Century Fox

The Merc with the Mouth depicter has a ‘full disclosure’ moment after Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige confirms that the ‘Deadpool 2’ sequel will be part of MCU and rated R.

    Jan 12, 2021
AceShowbiz – Ryan Reynolds has spoken up after “Deadpool 3” is confirmed to be part of Marvel Cinematic Universe and have a R-rating. Deciding to get honest, the Canadian actor has admitted that he pulled some tricks in order to get Disney’s bosses greenlight the threequel.
In his true sarcastic and comedic fashion, the Merc with the Mouth depicter joked on Twitter on Monday, January 11 that in order to get approval for “Deadpool 3”, “I showed them Spiderman 1 & 2 and told them it was Deadpool 1 & 2.”

Ryan Reynolds joked about getting Disney’s approval for ‘Deadpool 3′ R-rating.
Reynolds also took to Instagram to respond to the news of “Deadpool 3” update. Revealing his idea for the upcoming movie’s storyline, he jokingly pitched a crossover with a beloved character of Disney’s classic children’s animation, Bambi, as he posted, “First order of business: Find the guy who killed Bambi’s mom.”

Feige answered fans’ long-burning question about “Deadpool 3” rating during an interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub. “It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now,” he said.
Revealing that sisters Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux are currently writing the script, he went on sharing, “It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”
Disney’s Bob Iger previously committed to keep the adult humor nature of “Deadpool” while talking with investors. “[‘Deadpool’] clearly has been and will be Marvel branded. But we think there might be an opportunity for a Marvel-R brand for something like ‘Deadpool’. As long as we let the audiences know what’s coming, we think we can manage that fine,” he promised.

'Morbius' Delayed Again as Theatergoing Continues to Struggle Amid COVID-19 Crisis

    Sony Pictures

The Sony and Marvel superhero film starring Jared Leto as the titular character is pushed back seven months after previously moved from July 2020 to March 2021.

    Jan 12, 2021
AceShowbiz – “Morbius” fans now have to wait a little longer for the first live-action big screen adaptation of the Marvel superhero. Initially planned for a July 2020 release before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world, the Sony and Marvel film is once again pushed back to October 8 as theatergoing continues to suffer from the impact of the coronavirus crisis.
Back in April 2020, Sony Pictures bumped the release date of “Morbius” along with several other movies from their summer schedule due to the pandemic. The Daniel Espinosa-directed film starring Jared Leto was expected to arrive in March 19, but the current situation suggests it’s not feasible to restore the movie industry in less than three months.

Other studios have also taken the same steps with their movies which were previously scheduled to open in early 2021, though there are still a few titles on the calendar for the first few months of the year. They include Sony’s new take on “Cinderella (2021)” starring Camila Cabello, which is due out on February 5, and Disney and 20th Century’s “The King’s Man” slated for March 12 release. It’s unclear if both studios will keep these movies’ current release dates.
“Morbius” is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Leto stars as Michael Morbius, a scientist suffering from a rare blood disease since his early childhood. “Determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease,” according to the official synopsis.
Adria Arjona stars as Martine Bancroft, Morbius’s fiancee, Tyrese Gibson portrays Simon Stroud, an FBI agent tasked with hunting down Morbius, and Al Madrigal takes the role of Alberto Rodriguez, Stroud’s FBI partner. Michael Keaton is additionally set to reprise his “Spider-Man: Homecoming” role as Vulture.

The Gotham Awards Honor ‘Nomadland,’ as Best They Can

Perhaps the “Time” director Garrett Bradley put it best as she accepted her Gotham Award for best documentary: “If this were a real space, there’d be so many people up here with us,” Bradley said. “But we’re living in two dimensions.”The biggest winner of the night was “Nomadland,” a Frances McDormand road drama that many expect to be a top contender for the best-picture Oscar. The film, from the director Chloé Zhao, picked up both the best-feature and audience award; Zhao’s previous film, “The Rider,” triumphed at the Gothams two years ago.Though the Gothams are indie-leaning, their presence on the awards circuit is outsized: As the first significant ceremony of the season, they’ve often been a great barometer of buzz. What films have captured the attention of the East Coast crowd and may earn enough momentum to make it all the way to Oscar? You couldn’t help but overhear all sorts of lobbying whenever you pushed through a sea of formal wear on the way to the bar.The Gothams tried to recapture some of that magic this year with “virtual tables,” where a handful of curated watchers could gossip using video chat, if they so wished. (My table stayed mute.) But there is only so much you can do virtually to recreate a starry moment like last year’s late arrival of Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez, who swanned to their table well after the show began and brought the proceedings to a near-halt. Or the time when I wished luck to “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” nominee Richard E. Grant and he said, “I read the predictions on IndieWire today. It’s not going to be me.”Still, even a virtual ceremony can produce something that feels gratifyingly real. The winners in the lead-acting categories, Nicole Beharie for “Miss Juneteenth” and Riz Ahmed for “Sound of Metal,” were both gobsmacked, and as Ahmed tried to get his footing, he summed up the moment poetically: “It feels like a very wobbly time,” he said. “But if we can all wobble together, maybe we might find ourselves dancing.”Ahmed took the prize over the late Chadwick Boseman, nominated for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” but Boseman was still honored with a special posthumous trophy. Accepting the award on his behalf was the actor’s widow, Simone Ledward Boseman.Calling the award “an acknowledgment not only of his profound work, but of his impact on this industry and this world,” his widow looked up, and a tear ran down her cheek. “Chad, thank you,” she said. “I love you, I am so proud of you. Keep shining your light on us.”AdvertisementContinue reading the main story More

Sarah Jessica Parker Rules Out Recasting Kim Cattrall's Role in 'Sex and the City' Reboot

    Warner Bros. Pictures

The Carrie Bradshaw depicter tells her fans that the role originally played by Kim Cattrall won’t be recast in the upcoming reboot because she’s isn’t part of the new story.

    Jan 12, 2021
AceShowbiz – Sarah Jessica Parker has insisted Kim Cattrall’s role in “Sex and the City” won’t be recast.
The actress – who plays Carrie Bradshaw in the infamous television series – is set to return to the programme as it makes its revival under the name, “And Just Like That…”
And when one fan suggested Samantha Jones, who was originally played by Kim, should be recast as Jennifer Coolidge, Sarah told the follower, “We have some new stories to tell. We are excited.”
One fan claimed Samantha won’t return because Sarah didn’t like Kim but she denied a feud.
She replied, “No, I don’t dislike her. I’ve never said that. Never would. Samantha isn’t part of this story. But she will always be part of us. No matter where we are or what we do. X (sic)”
And another follower admitted she would miss Kim and her character, which Sarah agreed.

“We will too, we loved her so,” she responded.
Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda Hobbes, and Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte York Goldenblatt, are also set to return for the 10 episodes on HBO Max alongside Sarah as Carrie.
The revival is due to enter production in late spring and is executive produced by Michael Patrick King.
Despite the “Divorce” star’s statements, Kim first publicly spoke of her feud with Sarah Jessica three years ago, when she insisted she wasn’t “friends” with any of her Sex and the City co-stars, including Kristin and Cynthia.
She said at the time, “We’ve never been friends. We’ve been colleagues and, in some ways, it’s a very healthy place to be.”
The “Filthy Rich” star then said she didn’t know what Sarah Jessica’s “problem” was before later slamming her as “toxic” and “cruel.”
Kim also blasted Sarah Jessica for reaching out to her following the death of her brother Chris Cattrall, who died in February 2018.

'Bridgerton' Star Rege-Jean Page Reacts to James Bond Rumors

    Instagram

The ‘For the People’ actor is flattered to be linked to the James Bond movie following his role on the Netflix period drama as he considers it a ‘merit badge.’

    Jan 12, 2021
AceShowbiz – Rege-Jean Page has put an end to rumours of a romance with his “Bridgerton” co-star Phoebe Dynevor.
The pair star as Simon Basset and Daphne Bridgerton in the Netflix period drama, which has been a massive hit worldwide since its release. Their intimate relationship on screen has led to speculation they might be an item in real life, but Page was quick to shoot down the rumours during an interview with Access Hollywood.
“I think that everything you need to know is on camera,” he laughed. “The sparky words, scripts and material are more than enough.”

      See also…

Page’s admission about his relationship with Phoebe came after he also opened up about reports he’s in the running to take over from Daniel Craig as the next James Bond, after bookmakers’ odds were slashed for him to take on the part.
“I think there might be an element of cultural translation to be done here,” he said. “Like if you’re a Brit, and you do something of any kind of renown, that people regard well, then people start saying the ‘B’ word (Bond). It’s like a merit badge, you get the ‘B’ word merit badge.”
“But I don’t think it’s much more than that. I’m very, very glad to have the badge. I’m glad to be in such wonderful company of people who have the badge. But it’s a badge.”
The new TV series is produced by Shonda Rhimes. It’s one of her projects for Netflix following her departure from ABC after working for the Alphabet for 15 years.

'Black Panther 2' to Explore Other Characters and Different Subcultures

    Walt Disney Pictures

According to Marvel boss Kevin Feige, the upcoming second ‘Black Panther’ movie will focus on other characters while also honoring and respecting Chadwick Boseman’s legacy.

    Jan 12, 2021
AceShowbiz – Kevin Feige has insisted “Black Panther 2” “always” intended to focus on other characters.
The Marvel Studios boss confirmed the upcoming sequel will not feature CGI footage of the late Chadwick Boseman – who died of cancer last August (20) – nor would his role as T’Challa be recast, but stressed that the focus on the film was never intended to be on his character.
“So much of the comics and that first movie is the world of Wakanda,” he told Deadline. “Wakanda is a place to further explore with characters and different subcultures. This was always and initially the primary focus of the next story. We’re not going to have a CG Chadwick and we’re not recasting T’Challa.”

      See also…

Kevin went on to praise writer-and-director Ryan Coogler for his “genius” work and, while the late actor won’t feature in the movie, he promised the film will also “honour and respect” Chadwick’s legacy.
“Ryan Coogler is working very hard right now on the script with all the respect and love and genius that he has, which gives us great solace, so it was always about furthering the mythology and the inspiration of Wakanda,” he continued. “There’s also the task of honouring and respecting the ongoing learnings and teachings from Chad as well.”
The sequel will see the return of familiar faces like Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, and Letitia Wright.
Other details of the project are still scarce, but words ran rampant on the internet that Marvel considered passing the torch to M’Baku who’s played by Winston Duke in the first film. The warrior protested T’Challa being the new king in the 2018 movie.
