And it started getting pushback in that country when its trailer dropped in November. Film people on social media made sport with the speaking styles of its American, English and Irish cast too.But come now. Each film is its own circumscribed world. Hearing is an even more subjective sense than seeing. And playing accent police officer without qualification while watching a movie is ultimately doing it wrong. That said, motley accents are the least of this movie’s problems.[embedded content]This is a “who is going to inherit the farm” story in which that question is abruptly resolved pretty much halfway through. It is also a romantic comedy/drama whose tone ping-pongs from grave to lyrical to absurdist willy-nilly, and hits all those registers at fortissimo volume. Its premise is simple: Anthony (Jamie Dornan) loves girl-on-the-farm-next-door Rosemary (Emily Blunt) but can’t let her know. He’s got some glitch that renders him, he believes, bad boyfriend material — at least. As their respective parents (one is played by Christopher Walken, who’s funny and has a lovely final scene) shuffle off this mortal coil, the two find themselves facing only each other. Oh, and also a rich American potential interloper, played by Jon Hamm.At the film’s end, in a stormy scene with distant echoes of both “The Quiet Man” and “I Know Where I’m Going,” Blunt and Dornan face off in passionate screwball mode, and sparks fly. But the viewer’s patience may have been too harshly tested en route to this point to make much difference.Wild Mountain ThymeRated PG-13, for a little accented barnyard language. Ariana DeBose Credits 'The Prom' for Giving Her Full Circle Celebratory Moment

    Instagram

When appearing on ‘Good Morning America’, the dancer playing Alyssa Greene in Ryan Murphy’s new film recalls a moment from her high school dance when people stared at her for being different.

    Dec 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ariana DeBose had a “full circle” moment while dancing in new Netflix movie “The Prom” after classmates made her feel odd for stepping out with a girl at her real high school dance.
The gay star was thrilled when a school crush asked her to dance but she quickly retreated from the fun when she realised pals weren’t ready to see two girls dancing.
She tells “Good Morning America”, “It was the first time that I realised that people would start to stare at you for being different and I didn’t like it, so I grooved my way back to the punch bowl.”

“Cut to making ‘The Prom’ and I had the opportunity to have this completely full circle celebratory moment, where two girls got to dance together and be cheered for.”

The new film, starring Kerry Washington, Meryl Streep, and Nicole Kidman, revolves around a group of Broadway veterans who take over a small town prom after a gay student is forbidden from taking her girlfriend to the big dance. It debuts this weekend (December 11).
In a separate interview, Ariana revealed that she felt a little bit intimidated by the star-studded cast, though she thanked her experience in “Hamilton” for helping her overcoming it. “Hollywood came out in droves to see [‘Hamilton’],” she shared. “It did allow me to meet many of these people — whether they knew they were meeting me, I knew I was meeting them! It allowed me to get out some of those jitters ahead of time, so that when I did show up in Los Angeles to make this movie, I didn’t necessarily feel like I was going to fall apart. I could at least make a coherent sentence!”

    ‘Farewell Amor’ Review: Alone Together

In a delicate opening set in an airport, Walter (Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine), an Angolan refugee in New York, embraces his wife and teenage daughter, who’ve just arrived in America after a 17-year wait for visas. But Ekwa Msangi’s tender drama shows us that goodbyes haunt immigrants wherever they go. Walter, we learn, has just broken up with a lover who kept him company all these years. His wife, Esther (Zainab Jah), and daughter, Sylvia (Jayme Lawson), are quietly mourning the lives they’ve abandoned to live in a strange country with a now-strange man.[embedded content]Msangi employs a neat trick to capture the family’s coming-together in all its complexity. Split into three chapters, the film depicts their reunion from each character’s perspective, switching from the wide shot of the opening to a more intimate, point-of-view style. Each version deepens our understanding of the characters by highlighting new details: a strained smile; the hesitation before a hug.Even as “Farewell Amor” treads familiar paths, its tripartite structure allows for uncommon nuance. Another film might have painted Esther’s religious orthodoxy as quaint or even caricaturish. Here, in hushed montages, Jah powerfully conveys Esther’s loneliness in America, while the character’s long-distance calls reveal how she found community in church after losing her home to war.Sylvia’s strand is the most conventional (though Lawson sparkles onscreen). A vivacious dancer prohibited from pursuing her passion by her mother, she defies her way into a step contest. It’s a contrived plotline, but it infuses the film with an ebullient rhythm, the music giving Sylvia a taste of home — and a reason for hope.Farewell AmorNot rated. Running time: 1 hour 35 minutes. Johnny Depp Reportedly Tries to Get Amber Heard Fired From 'Aquaman' After Split

    WENN/Warner Bros. Pictures/John Rainford

The ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ star is said to have reached out to his producer sister Christi Dembrowski to have his ex-wife replaced in the Warner Bros. movie.

    Dec 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – Johnny Depp is clearly holding a grudge against his ex-wife Amber Heard following their explosive and messy divorce. The 57-year-old actor reportedly tried to interfere with the 34-year-old beauty’s career after they split in 2016, only one year after they tied the knot.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, in evidence presented during Judge Andrew Nicols’ court ruling in Depp’s U.K. libel case, the actor reached out to his sister, producer Christi Dembrowski, who previously had a deal with Warner Bros., to have Heard fired from “Aquaman”. “I want her replaced on the WB film,” he allegedly wrote to his sister, referring to the Jason Momoa-starring flick.
According to the site, Depp also sent angry texts about Heard, whom he met when they filmed “The Rum Diary” in 2009, to his friend and fellow actor Paul Bettany. “Let’s burn Amber!!!” Depp wrote to Bettany.

Bettany, apparently taking it as a joke, responded, “Having thought it through I don’t think we should burn Amber – she’s delightful company and easy on the eye, plus I’m not sure she’s a witch. We could of course try the English course of action in these predicaments – we do a drowning test. Thoughts?” Depp was persistent tough, replying, “Let’s drown her before we burn her!!! I will f**k her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she’s dead.”
Heard accused Depp of being “verbally and physically abusive” throughout their relationship. In 2019, he sued the actress for $50 million for defamation over an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in December 2018, which portrayed her as a domestic abuse victim and suggested that Depp perpetrated domestic violence against her. The case is still ongoing, with a trial being pushed back from October of this year to May 2021.
Depp, however, has lost his libel suit against British tabloid The Sun, which labeled him a “wifebeater” in a 2018 article. The result led him to being asked to withdraw from “Fantastic Beasts 3”, for which he was supposed to reprise his role as Gellert Grindelwald.
As for Heard, she starred in 2018’s “Aquaman” after making her debut as Mera in 2017’s “Justice League”. There has been an online petition asking for the actress to be replaced in “Aquaman 2”, but WB has not responded to it.

Dianne Wiest Looks to Never Using Script Again After Fun 'Let Them All Talk' Improvisation

    WENN/FayesVision

The ‘Bullets Over Broadway’ actress joins Meryl Streep and Candice Bergen in Steven Soderbergh’s comedy drama about an acclaimed author inviting her two college friends to a cruise.

    Dec 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actress Dianne Wiest had such a great time improvising her lines in new movie “Let Them All Talk”, she “never” wants to be tied to a script again.
The “Bullets Over Broadway” star joins Meryl Streep and Candice Bergen in Steven Soderbergh’s comedy drama, about a famous author who invites her two old college friends to join her on a cruise across the Atlantic.
The filmmaker instructed his leading ladies to make up their conversations onboard the cruise ship as they went along, and the unconventional production process was a refreshing change for the veteran actors.
“We had certain points that we had to get forward by the end of it (the scene), but it was sort of open-ended and we could talk for as long as we wanted, or as short as we wanted,” Streep told U.S. breakfast show “Today”.

      See also…

“In the beginning it was, ‘Woah…,’ ” said Bergen, “(but) once you got used to that it kept everything very vibrant and alive, and fun, actually.”

And for Wiest, the gig was a dream come true, “I love improvising, I just love it so much because you’re so really free to look at the other person and really listen and just be there.”
It was so much fun, Wiest isn’t interested in having to stick to a script on future projects. “It was heaven,” she said on America’s “Watch What Happens Live”. “I never want to use a script again!”
“Let Them All Talk” debuts on America’s HBO Max on Thursday, December 10.

'Spider-Man 3' Reported to Bring Back Charlie Cox's Daredevil

    Netflix/Patrick Harbron

Meanwhile, Tobey Maguire has been spotted visiting a costume shop for a fitting amid rumors that he’s in talks to reprise his role as Peter Parker in the upcoming MCU movie.

    Dec 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – MCU is about to be expanded in “Spider-Man 3”. Following rumors about the return of several familiar faces from previous “Spider-Man” franchises, it’s now reported that the upcoming movie will also bring back a superhero from Marvel’s TV series.
According to Murphy’s Multiverse, Charlie Cox, who starred as the titular character on Netflix’s “Daredevil”, is set to reprise the role in the Tom Holland-starring movie. He played blind lawyer Matt Murdock and his vigilante alter ego on the show from 2015 until it got canceled after three seasons in 2018.
Back in April, there had been a fan theory that Cox could possibly show up in “Spider-Man 3” as Matt Murdock, who offers Holland’s Peter Parker legal counsel after his secret identity was basically outed to the world in “Spider-Man: Far From Home”. However, the actor denied any involvement in the upcoming movie at the time, telling ComicBook.com, “I hadn’t heard those rumors, but it’s certainly not with my Daredevil. I’m not involved in it. If that’s true, it’s not with me. It’s with another actor.”
Cox, however, admitted that he’s interested in making an MCU debut at one point in the future and teaming up with Holland. “Look, I had a great time. I’m so grateful I got to play that character as long as I did. Of course, I’d love to keep going. I’d love to be involved with it,” he said.
“As a fan of the Marvel movies, I’ve loved the little stuff where they pop up here and there but because we were on Netflix, we weren’t able to do as much for legal reasons, I don’t know why,” he weighed in on the complicated Netflix and Disney/Marvel deal. “But I love the idea of Jessica and Matt showing up in the background or Matt as a lawyer advising Peter Parker. That’d be really, really cool.”
The rights to Daredevil and other characters that previously appeared on Netflix’s series, including Jessica Jones, The Punisher, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, have recently returned to Disney and Marvel Studios though, making it possible for the studio to use any of these characters in “Spider-Man 3”.

Meanwhile, Tobey Maguire’s latest sighting has fueled speculation that he will be back as his version of the web-crawler in the “Far From Home” sequel. The actor was spotted visiting a costume shop for a fitting on Wednesday, December 9.
The Spider-Man of the Sam Raimi-directed trilogy dressed comfortably in a gray T-shirt under a navy blue puffer coat with black Nike shorts and black slides with black socks. He was wearing a face mask and carrying a water bottle as well as his cell phone when arriving at Eastern Costume.
Maguire’s arrival for a costume fitting comes after it’s reported that he was still in talks to reprise his role as Spider-Man in Marvel/Sony’s “Spider-Man 3”. Meanwhile, Andrew Garfield and Kirsten Dunst’s deal to appear in the film has reportedly been sealed.
Garfield portrayed Peter Parker a.k.a. the web-crawler in 2012’s “The Amazing Spider-Man” and its 2014 sequel. As for Dunst, she played Peter’s love interest Mary Jane opposite Maguire in Raimi’s “Spider-Man” trilogy. Both actors are reportedly set to reprise their respective role.
Alfred Molina and Jamie Foxx are allegedly said to have sealed the deal to return as Doctor Octopus and Electro respectively, while other villains rumored to be featured in the film include Venom (Tom Hardy), Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin and Green Goblin.
“Spider-Man 3” is currently in production with Jon Watts serving behind the lens. Zendaya Coleman and Jacob Batalon are among the returning stars.

George Clooney Hospitalized With Stomach Pains Due to Extreme Weight Loss for 'Midnight Sky' Role

    Netflix

The Oscar-winning actor reveals he landed in hospital after struggling with stomach pains due to weight loss as he prepared for his role as a desperate astronomer in a new movie.

    Dec 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – George Clooney was hospitalised with pancreatitis after dropping close to 30 pounds (13.6 kilograms) for his new movie, “The Midnight Sky”.
The 59 year old wanted to look the part as a desperate astronomer who had survived an apocalyptic event, but he took his weight loss plan a little too far and was rushed to the hospital with stomach pains just before filming began.
“I think I was trying too hard to lose the weight quickly and probably wasn’t taking care of myself,” the Oscar winner, who spent weeks recovering, tells The Mirror.

      See also…

“It took a few weeks to get better and as a director, it’s not so easy because you need energy. We were out on this glacier in Finland, which made it a lot harder work. But it certainly helped with the character.”
“I didn’t know that the guy was 70 because I hadn’t read the book when I read the screenplay,” Clooney told Deadline. “I just knew that he was really sick… I was more gaunt and more drawn in.”
“It was a balancing act. We had a skeleton crew, so we’re carrying camera boxes ourselves. You could only do a take out in the snow (in Iceland) without goggles and I could only last for about a minute and 10 or 15 seconds before my eyelids would freeze shut. So I’d have to come back in and they had a blow dryer.”
“We were sitting in a van and they would blow dry my eyelids so my eyelashes would melt. Then I’d go back out and shoot the scene again.”

Tom Hanks as Geppetto in a live-action “Pinocchio,” and Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell in a live-action “Peter Pan & Wendy.” Footage from new Marvel projects. A star-studded prequel to “The Lion King.”On Thursday, as part of a four-hour investor presentation focused on streaming, the Walt Disney Company will discuss a Death Star-size trove of coming content — all of the above and more, said three people with knowledge of the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private planning. Some big-budget Disney movies will continue to have exclusive runs in theaters. (The “Lion King” project, directed by Barry Jenkins and focused on Mufasa’s back story, is a good bet.) Others will debut online. (That is where “Pinocchio” is headed.) All will ultimately serve one goal, which is strengthening Disney+, the company’s flagship streaming service. At a time when streaming is becoming cuttingly competitive — and some of Disney’s traditional businesses are struggling — Disney hopes to use the virtual event to dazzle Wall Street: Here is a 97-year-old company making a jump to direct-to-consumer hyperspace.Last month, Bob Chapek, Disney’s chief executive, announced that Disney+ had reached 74 million subscribers worldwide after only 11 months in operation. (Netflix took seven years to reach that threshold, and now has 195 million customers worldwide.) Disney+ has since rolled out in Latin America and grown rapidly in India, analysts say, leading some to estimate that Disney may reveal that the service is within reach of 100 million subscribers.Disney is also expected to give growth updates on its other streaming platforms, including ESPN+, Hulu and a new general entertainment offering, Star, which will debut overseas in the coming months.“The question everyone has now is where to from here?” Michael Nathanson, a founder of the MoffettNathanson media research firm, said in a phone interview. “We expect to see a lot more spending on content to turn Disney+ into more of an always-on service, which will increase pricing power.”Subscriptions to Disney+ cost $7 a month. The least expensive Netflix plan is $9 a month, and HBO Max, a fledgling WarnerMedia service, costs $15.Disney declined to comment for this article.Investors have been licking their lips in anticipation of what Disney will unveil, including forecasts of subscriber growth. Disney shares have climbed 32 percent since the investor day was announced in August, compared with an 11 percent rise in the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index.Disney was trading at about $155 on Wednesday, near an all-time high, even though several of its theme park resorts (which are enormous cash generators) remain closed because of the pandemic. The company laid off 30,000 workers.Hollywood is keenly interested in the investor presentation because Disney executives have said they will discuss an evolving approach to movie distribution. The coronavirus has forced Disney and other studios to push back the releases of more than a dozen major films and reroute others to streaming services. In September, Disney debuted “Mulan” on Disney+ as part of a “premium access” experiment, charging subscribers $30 for indefinite access. “Soul,” the latest Pixar film, will arrive on Disney+ on Christmas Day for no additional cost.Pixar’s “Soul” will arrive exclusively on Disney+ on Christmas Day.Credit…Disney/PixarCiting the pandemic, WarnerMedia last week shifted 17 coming Warner Bros. movies to a hybrid release model — simultaneous arrival on HBO Max and in theaters — even though some of the films (“Dune,” “The Matrix 4”) are not scheduled to come out until the fourth quarter, long after vaccines are expected to be deployed. The surprise move prompted swift and severe blowback from WarnerMedia talent, who felt betrayed by the sudden switch. They also stand to receive considerably lower paydays.John Stankey, the chief executive of AT&T, which owns Warner Media, referred to the furor as “a lot of noise” while speaking at a conference on Tuesday and predicted that WarnerMedia’s strategy would prove to be a “win-win-win.”In contrast, Mr. Chapek and Robert A. Iger, Disney’s executive chairman, will not go with a one-size-fits-all approach for movie releases in 2021, the people with knowledge of the company’s plan said. Some titles on Disney’s theatrical slate will move to Disney+ at no extra cost. Expect “Peter Pan & Wendy,” like “Soul” and “Pinocchio,” to debut in this manner.Other movies will take the “Mulan” route and arrive on Disney+ as premium offerings. “We’ve got something here in terms of the premier access strategy,” Mr. Chapek told analysts on a recent conference call. “There’s going to be a role for it strategically with our portfolio of offerings.”And some of Disney’s biggest movies will continue to receive exclusive runs in theaters before arriving on the company’s streaming services. For instance, contrary to widespread speculation, “Black Widow,” a much-anticipated Marvel spectacle, will remain on Disney’s theatrical release calendar for May 7, the people with knowledge of the presentation said.Scarlett Johansson in “Black Widow,” which will remain on Disney’s theatrical release calendar for May.Credit…Marvel Studios/Disney, via Associated PressMovies are helpful in attracting subscribers, but television shows keep streaming customers paying month after month. To that end, Disney has an abundance of series on the way for its services. They include “Turner and Hooch,” an adaptation of the 1989 film about a detective and his oversize mutt; “Willow,” an adaptation of the 1988 big-screen fantasy; and eight Marvel shows based on characters like Loki and She-Hulk.Streaming is not yet profitable for Disney — far from it. Losses in the direct-to-consumer division totaled $2.8 billion in the company’s 2020 fiscal year. Streaming-related losses are expected to peak in 2022, as rollout costs decline and content expenses normalize, with analysts expecting Disney+ profitability by 2024.Disney has indicated that some of the money for its new content blitz will come from programming budgets at its traditional television networks. The company owns the Disney Channel, National Geographic, FX, Freeform and ABC, among others.“We will be heavily tilting the scale from linear networks over to our direct-to-consumer business,” Mr. Chapek said on the recent conference call.Analysts pushed for additional details. “Just hold on until Dec. 10,” Christine McCarthy, Disney’s chief financial officer, said on the call. “Hopefully we can answer all your questions then.”AdvertisementContinue reading the main story More
