Jamie Dornan Gets 'Freaky' Fan Letter Claiming He Fathered a Child With Dakota Johnson

    WENN/Oscar Gonzalez

Aside from dealing with obsessed fans of the books and movies, the Christian Grey of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ reveals how he learned to laugh off the worst reviews of his career.

    Nov 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – Jamie Dornan was freaked out by one fan’s bizarre attempt to convince him that he and his “Fifty Shades of Grey” co-star, Dakota Johnson, were the parents to a lovechild.
The actor, who played Christian Grey in the film series, admits he received a lot of fan mail from obsessed fans of the books and movies, but one correspondence was particularly strange.
“It was a collage of photographs of a kid,” he tells Variety. “Someone saying that it was my kid, and my wife should know that I have this kid who’s seven years old.”

The 38-year-old hunk, who is also known for his portrayal of serial killer Paul Spector on the crime drama series “The Fall”, continues, “I think they were trying to say that the kid was mine and Dakota Johnson’s, and we’d had this baby while we made the first ‘Fifty Shades’ movie. It piqued our interest, let’s say. It was a bit freaky.”
If he wasn’t dealing with odd fans, Jamie was having to contend with the worst reviews of his career, confessing he learned to laugh them off because some were just awful.
“I went through a bad stage with ‘Fifty Shades’ of reading a couple of really bad ones, but then just finding them funny and letting them drive me,” he recalls. “One of them was: ‘Jamie Dornan has the charisma of oatmeal…’ Some people like oatmeal, so I thought it was kind of harsh. I remember that stuck with me, and I don’t entirely disagree with it either.”

'Godzilla vs. Kong' Fans Furious Over Possible Streaming Debut

    Warner Bros.

The follow-up to ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ may skip theatrical release in favor of going to a streamer, with Netflix reportedly already making a $200M offer for the movie.

    Nov 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – The wait is perhaps too long for Legendary Pictures until the time is right to release “Godzilla vs. Kong” in cinemas. After postponing it release date from November 2020 to May 21, 2021, the studio is reportedly considering to skip the planned theatrical release in favor of heading to a streamer.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Netflix is one of the streaming services interested in acquiring the rights to distribute the film. It reportedly has made an offer of more than $200 million for the film.
While it sounds like a lucrative deal, Legendary Pictures may not be sold that easily. Warner Bros., which currently holds the worldwide distribution rights for the movie except for in Japan, reportedly has blocked the deal and intends to bring it to its own streamer, HBO Max.
However, as of Wednesday night, November 25, Warner Bros. denied that there’s a plan for the movie to skip the theatrical release and head straight to streaming service. “We plan to release ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ theatrically next year as scheduled,” said a spokesperson for the studio.
Despite the unconfirmed reports, fans couldn’t help feeling disappointed should the sequel to 2019’s “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” and 2017’s Kong: Skull Island really head to a streamer. Reacting to the news on Twitter, they expressed their disagreement with the alleged plan for streaming debut.

“I hate this so much. #GodzillaVsKong deserves to be seen on the biggest movie screen possible. Don’t do this, @wbpictures,” one fan warned the studio. Another echoed the sentiment, “#GodzillavsKong is Made For IMAX and the big screen. Going to streaming is a big mistake!!!”
“Jesus… the theater industry is taking hit after hit over these moves to streaming. I can’t see this being good for any of them in the long run. This news makes me sad,” a third person lamented the movie industry amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Another said that he’d rather wait longer to see it in theater rather than having the film released earlier on a streaming service. “@Legendary @wbpictures I’ll gladly wait another year to see Godzilla vs. Kong on the big screen, as intended. Please, please don’t skip the theatrical release!” the said person pleaded.
Someone else expressed her/his opinion, “Omg this is super big bruh moment if I don’t get to see Godzilla vs Kong the climatic rematch of the century on IMAX I’m a cry. I really wanted to see Godzilla and Kong again on the movie screen super badly!”
“Godzilla vs. Kong” wrapped filming in April 2019 with Adam Wingard serving behind the lens. Starring Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown and Rebecca Hall among others, it will pit Godzilla against King Kong, the two most powerful forces of nature, in a spectacular battle for the ages.

Mads Mikkelsen Officially Confirmed to Replace Johnny Depp in 'Fantastic Beasts 3'

    WENN/Warner Bros

The ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ actor was previously reported to be David Yates’ top choice to play Gellert Grindelwald in the ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ sequel.

    Nov 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Fantastic Beasts” has officially found its new Gellert Grindelwald. Two weeks after casting news emerged that Mads Mikkelsen was in early talks to portray the main villain in the follow-up to “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald”, Warner Bros. confirmed on Wednesday, November 25 to Deadline that the Danish actor has been cast in “Fantastic Beasts 3”.
The studio was moving fast to find Johnny Depp’s replacement after the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star agreed to leave the franchise following his loss in a libel lawsuit with a British tabloid. The “Hannibal” alum was reported to be director David Yates’ choice to play Grindelwald earlier this month.
He, however, denied that he was negotiating to star in the movie when asked by IGN last week. “Oh, that is on the rumor basis as we speak,” he told the site over the phone. “So I know as much as you do from the newspapers. So I’m waiting for that phone call.”

Fans, meanwhile, pushed for the studio to hire Colin Farrell, who already played Grindelwald in disguise in the first film, 2016’s “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”. The actor, however, is currently unavailable as he has been filming another Warner Bros. movie, Matt Reeves’ “The Batman”, in which he’s playing one of the villains, The Penguin.
Depp announced his withdrawal from the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise via Instagram on Friday, November 6. “I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agreed to that request,” he said in a statement.
“Fantastic Beasts 3” has been in production with Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law leading the cast. The movie is currently scheduled to open in theaters on July 15, 2022 release, after it was moved from its original due date of November 12, 2021.

Faizon Love Sues Movie Bosses Over Racist 'Couples Retreat' Poster

The 52-year-old comedian has filed a lawsuit against Universal Studios bosses, accusing them of racism for cutting him out of the 2009 romantic comedy movie poster.

    Nov 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – Comedian Faizon Love is taking Universal Studios bosses to court for racial discrimination, 11 years after he was cut out of the movie poster for his film “Couples Retreat”.
The actor had a supporting role in the 2009 romantic comedy, which starred Vince Vaughn, Malin Akerman, Jon Favreau, and Jason Bateman, and featured in the background of the initial promo poster with his onscreen love interest, played by Kali Hawk.
The pair portrayed the only non-white couple in the project, about four couples attempting to repair their relationships at a luxurious resort.
However, Love and Hawk were removed from the “Couples Retreat” poster when the film was released outside of North America, and at the time, the actors received an apology from Universal chiefs for causing offence, and they promised to pull the ad.
However, Love claims that never happened, and in July (20), he realised the image is still widely used to market the movie internationally.
He is now suing over the snub, filing suit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday (25Nov20).
“This film was a big money-maker for Universal, but instead of honoring my work and my contract, the studio chose to render me invisible to billions of moviegoers around the world,” he stated in the legal papers.

Love goes on to accuse Universal executives of reneging on a promise to offer him future lucrative TV and film gigs – a tactic he now claims was simply used to keep him quiet during the original controversy, reports Variety.
“What Universal Studios had initially portrayed to Mr. Love as an unintentional act of oversight and carelessness was, we now know, an intentional act of disparate and discriminatory treatment by Universal Studios…,” his lawyers added.
Love explains he is launching the legal action to seek redress on behalf of other black actors mistreated by Hollywood bosses.
“They have not only hurt me financially, they have hurt me in a deeper way by dismissing me because of my Blackness – and they have hurt all Black performers by continuing to perpetuate racism in the movie industry,” Love wrote in a statement.
“I want to ensure that future generations don’t have to endure the racism and whitewashing that I have experienced.”
Love is suing for fraud, breach of contract, and violation of California’s fair employment act and civil rights law.
Studio representatives have yet to respond to the legal action.

    ‘Overseas’ Review: Human Capital

In 2018, the Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte honoredoverseas Filipino workers — the women deployed to Dubai, Singapore and other countries as domestic help — as heroes for their hefty contribution to the country’s economy. But in “Overseas,” an observational documentary set in a Philippine training center for such workers, the pupils question this designation. “How can you be a hero when you just work abroad for your own family’s future?” one asks. The exaltation of desperate survival as a moral virtue emerges as the central irony of Sung-a Yoon’s wrenching film. The training center serves as a kind of microcosm. With its pastel-colored walls and labeled rooms (“bathroom,” “kitchen area”), it’s the setting not just for cleaning and caregiving lessons but also role-play exercises that prepare the women for the abuses often meted out by their employers. The trainees commit to these harrowing scenarios with a disorienting sense of play — wearing, for instance, a corny, painted-on mustache while playing the assailant in a sexual assault simulation.[embedded content]With a fly-on-the-wall approach, the movie allows the center’s cruel contradictions to accumulate with a slow burn. If the classes offer the women a cathartic space to acknowledge the indignities of their situation, the instructors are also quick to frame those horrors as obstacles their pupils must “learn” to overcome.Occasional staged soliloquies jar with the film’s delicate vérité approach, but Yoon’s eye for composition remains precise throughout. One image has haunted me for days: The face of Jing, a young woman dreading her impending separation from her family, numbly receiving the results of her psychological evaluation: “Your obedience score is high, which is good if you work abroad.”OverseasNot rated. ‘The Croods: A New Age’ Review: More Civilized

No one would call it a huge leap on the evolutionary ladder, but the animated sequel “The Croods: A New Age” is slightly funnier than its serviceable 2013 predecessor. That movie followed a family of cave persons — whose patriarch was the lunkheaded but big-hearted Grug (voiced by Nicolas Cage) — as they left the safety of the rocky alcove they called home and, thanks to the creativity of an outsider, Guy (Ryan Reynolds), embraced more innovative ways of thinking.“The Croods: A New Age,” directed by Joel Crawford, accelerates the Crood family’s clash with modernity. The clan stumbles into a verdant utopia that’s a cross between Shangri-La and Gilligan’s Island. This paradise is maintained by a family called the Bettermans, headed by Hope (Leslie Mann) and Phil (Peter Dinklage), who wear new-age garb and snobbishly show off their advanced ideas, like private rooms, windows and fruit baskets.[embedded content]They also have plans to set up Guy, who has been going steady with Eep (Emma Stone), the Croods’ eldest, with their daughter, Dawn (Kelly Marie Tran), in a subplot that the writers — perhaps because the world’s still-tiny population left them without enough characters to pair off — leave at least partly unresolved. While Dawn and Eep become besties, the dueling dads negotiate the common ground between Grug’s vestigial Cro-Magnonism and Phil’s proto-metrosexuality. Paradoxically, the movie’s energy ebbs as the proceedings turn more antic. The culture clash comedy becomes secondary once “A New Age” introduces a tribe of pugnacious, subtitled monkeys who appear to have a fairly advanced society of their own.The Croods: A New AgeRated PG. Hybrid animals — such as wolf spiders — that might frighten children. Running time: 1 hour 35 minutes. In theaters.
