    AMBI

‘Waiting for the Barbarians’ which is directed by Ciro Guerra has ditched theatrical release for streaming platforms due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
    May 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – Johnny Depp and Robert Pattinson’s star-studded new movie has become the latest to skip a theatrical release and head straight for homes.
Samuel Goldwyn Films bosses have acquired the North American rights to director Ciro Guerra’s “Waiting for the Barbarians”, which also features Oscar winner Mark Rylance, Gana Bayarsaikhan, and Greta Scacchi, and they are planning to release the movie to digital platforms in August 2020.
Based on the novel by Nobel Prize-winning author J.M. Coetzee, who also adapted the screenplay, the movie follows a clash between a magistrate (Rylance) and a colonel (Depp) at a fictitious border settlement.
“It has been a great honour to work with this wonderful cast and passionate crew in bringing J.M. Coetzee’s masterpiece to the screen,” said Guerra in a statement to Deadline. “It is a timeless story that speaks volumes to our world today, and we’re very happy and excited to be finally bringing it to audiences in the U.S. through this partnership with Samuel Goldwyn Films.”
“Waiting For the Barbarians” will join the likes of “Scoob!”, “Trolls World Tour”, and “True History of the Kelly Gang” among the films released direct to on demand following the closure of cinemas due to the coronavirus crisis.

'Deadpool' Creator Believes Third Movie Will Not Come Out in Next Five Years

    Twentieth Century Fox

When claiming he has not seen ‘Deadpool 3’ on the Marvel’s schedule, comic book creator Rob Liefeld points out, ‘Until a movie is put on a schedule, it’s not taken seriously.’
    May 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – A third “Deadpool 3” film is not on the Marvel schedule for the next five years, according to the creator of the comic that inspired the franchise.
Rob Liefeld has revealed that the much-anticipated sequel, which would star Ryan Reynolds, isn’t on the latest docket compiled by film bosses.
“Until a movie is put on a schedule, it’s not taken seriously,” Liefeld tells io9. “And what people don’t like is that I have assessed the schedule for the next – give or take – five years and I don’t see ‘Deadpool’ on it. I don’t see that it can arrive earlier than that.”
The writer also clarified that some of his past comments on the lack of progress on the production were not a knock on executives at Marvel, but rather a way for him to be honest with “Deadpool” fans.
“Do I know that there is no movement on a ‘Deadpool 3’ right now? I know that, yes. Does that worry me? No, not at all,” he adds. “What I did was I answered a question honestly, and what I learned this week is just lie. Just tell people everything is lollipop and unicorns and rainbows and you’ll be better off in your life, because people want to be lied to.
“Just because some guy goes, ‘Yeah, we’re still moving along’, that’s code for ‘there’s nothing to see here’.”
“Deadpool” was released in 2016 and it’s hit follow-up debuted in 2018.

Donald Glover Plots 'Community' Movie That Tracks Down Missing Troy Barnes

    NBC

The ‘Atlanta’ actor has pitched his idea for a big-screen spinoff project during online reunion for charity and received positive feedback from his co-stars.
    May 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Donald Glover pitched his idea for spin-off movie to his old “Community” castmates during a reunion table read on Monday, May 18, 2020.
The one-off special saw Glover reuniting with his castmates Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong as well as creator Dan Harmon to help Jose Andres’ World Central Kitchen and Frontline Foods’ Covid-19 relief efforts.
During the reunion, the “Atlanta” star pitched an idea for a film in which Abed Nadir, the character played by Pudi, would go out in search of his own character Troy Barnes – who is considered dead or lost at sea after being captured by pirates during season five.

“I like movies like that,” Glover said, “What am I doing, writing the movie on the fly or something?”
Pudi agreed, adding, “I love the idea of Troy being lost and Abed’s mission is to go find him, try to track someone down – that would be fun.”
The rest of the cast also raised their hands in support of the idea of a new movie although Glover said the start of production could be some way off due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“The Mandalorian” star Pedro Pascal also took part in the table read, filling in for Walton Goggins, who was not available to reprise his character, Mr. Stone.

‘Body Cam’ Review: Rage in Physical Form

A murdered African-American youth and a police cover-up drive Malik Vitthal’s “Body Cam,” a supernatural revenge fantasy that is anything but subtle. Its timeliness, however, is undeniable: With the investigations into the deaths of Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery currently making news, this awkward hybrid of horror and social consciousness plucks at one of our country’s rawest nerves.Holding this wobbly project together is the reliable Mary J. Blige as Renee, a straight-arrow L.A.P.D. officer still fragile after losing her son in a swimming-pool accident. Investigating the violent death of a colleague during a routine traffic stop, Renee follows clues to a mysterious figure (Anika Noni Rose) who appears in found footage at more than one crime scene. Strangely, Renee is the only person able to view this footage — and the twitching shadow-creature it reveals — before it disappears. The grisly remains of the creature’s victims, though, are visible to everyone.[embedded content]Murky to the max, “Body Cam” plays out in darkened streets and inky interiors, the relentless gloom straining our eyes and comprehension. The pacing is atrocious: A creeping search of a filthy apartment yields little but flying roaches and creaking floorboards — and a reminder of how much more terrifying a scene like this could be in the hands of David Fincher. Despite the ripeness and flammability of its material, the movie feels oddly distant, the screenplay marred by weak scares, graceless plotting and dashed-off characters. There are two bereaved women at the heart of this story, but the filmmakers, laser-focused on giving rage physical form, fail to connect us to the grief it springs from.Body CamRated R for blood and brutality. Running time: 1 hour 36 minutes. Rent or buy on Apple TV, Amazon, Google Play and other digital platforms. More

    May 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Pyer Moss founder Kerby Jean-Raymond is set to headline a drive-in documentary showcase in September, during what would have been Fashion Week.
As runway shows in cities like New York, London, Milan and Paris look set to be cancelled in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, many designers are looking for alternate ways to present their upcoming looks.
On Monday (May 18), Raymond announced he will host a screening of the fashion film “American, Also” at a New York drive-in movie theatre this September. The production explores the creation of and preparation for the brand’s Spring 2020 show at Brooklyn’s Kings Theater.
The event will kick off a tour of drive-in’s throughout the U.S.
“It’s always been our mission to show the amount of thinking and laboring that goes behind putting together a collection,” Jean-Raymond said in a statement to Vogue. “We’ve been slowing down the speed of how much we produce and improving the quality of what we produce throughout the years. This film aims to show the love and care our entire company puts into every single moment we create and will show that we appreciate fashion as an art form and communication tool that we’ve used to embolden a community around us.”
