Zoe Kravitz Gets Real Why 'Divergent' Films Were Not Among Her Favorites

    Instagram

The ‘Big Little Lies’ actress, who portrayed Christina in the film franchise, makes the confession during an appearance on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast.
    May 5, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actress Zoe Kravitz isn’t a fan of her work in the “Divergent” film franchise because she had no idea where the story was supposed to go.
The 31-year-old starred alongside Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Miles Teller, and Ansel Elgort in the movies, based on the dystopian book series of the same name by Veronica Roth, but Kravitz admits she didn’t enjoy the blockbuster filmmaking process.
“Those films, (with) all due respect, those weren’t my favourite films that I’ve made, and I think as we went on, the story really kinda got lost and nobody really knew what we were doing anymore, and that makes it really hard,” she confessed on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast (https://armchairexpertpod.com/pods/zoe-kravitz).
“I’m happy to go wherever (in her acting), if I know what we’re making and why, but once you lose sight of that, it becomes really hard.”
Kravitz also attributes having to shoot so many scenes against a giant green screen while in the heat of the summer in Atlanta, Georgia for her dislike of the three releases, which began with 2014’s “Divergent”.
She added, “I think it depends what it is too, like, when you’re running away from something… and it’s a million degrees, and you can’t see anything (because) it’s all CG (computer-generated)…”

Although the releases performed well at the global box office, the first instalment, shot by Neil Burger, garnered mixed reviews from critics, while the follow-ups, 2015’s “Insurgent’ and 2016’s “Allegiant”, which were both directed by Robert Schwentke, were more negatively received. The reaction led to a planned fourth movie, inspired by the second half of the Allegiant novel, to be scrapped altogether.

Report: Rihanna's New Documentary to Expose Her Fallout With Jay-Z and Beyonce

    Instagram/https://www.beyonce.com/

Titled ‘Rihanna: Volume One’, the upcoming documentary, which is directed by Peter Berg, will allegedly chronicle her problem with her manager at Roc Nation and Jay-Z, as well as her breakup from Hassan Jameel.
    May 5, 2020
AceShowbiz – A new Rihanna documentary is on the way. Reports about the project titled “Rihanna: Volume One” surfaced over the weekend after production company Film 45 accidentally leaked about it on its website.
In a screenshot taken and shared by a fan Twitter account, the company posted a photo of the Barbadian songstress singing in the studio along with a tagline which read, “Coming soon: An inside look at the personal and professional life of Rihanna.”
According to the tweet, the documentary will be directed by Peter Berg, who directed Rih in 2012’s “Battleship”, for Amazon Video. The Twitter user also included a now-broken link to Film 45’s website, which provided detailed synopsis of the project.
The synopsis reportedly read, “Peter Berg’s bold and innovative ‘Rihanna’ is an unfiltered look into Rihanna’s life, providing a glimpse into the evolution of one of the world’s most well-known pop artists. With unparalleled access into the singer’s life and over 1200 hours of footage, the doc takes us on a journey through private insights into Rihanna’s personality and humor, philosophies on work, family and love that are both moving and inspirational.”
Per The Hollywood Reporter, “Rihanna: Volume One” compiles various footage Berg captured while traveling alongside the “Diamonds” hitmaker in Europe. Amazon reportedly paid $25 to acquire rights to the documentary.
Meanwhile, according to MTO News, the documentary would be an explosive one, with the 32-year-old R&B superstar airing out her alleged feud with Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles. According to the site’s source, Rih had a fallout with the famous couple after her album “Anti” leaked prematurely, which she blamed on Jay-Z’s streaming platform Tidal.
The hip-hop mogul and Tidal had explained that the leak was due to “system error,” but the “Umbrella” songstress allegedly accused the rapper of leaking her album behind her back to prop up his wife Beyonce’s album “Formation”.
The site adds that the upcoming documentary will also focus on Rih’s strained relationship with her father and detail her relationship and eventual breakup with Saudi billionaire Hassan Jameel.

Streaming Plays Give Big-Name Actors a Chance to Give Back

It doesn’t look like Broadway is going to reopen any time soon. So one producer has decided to start making shows online.Jeffrey Richards, who has been working on Broadway for 47 years, is planning to stream a series of starry play readings, starting Thursday, to keep making art and to raise money for charity. The “Spotlight on Plays” project is similar to some being undertaken by nonprofits while theaters around the country are shuttered, but it stands out as a venture by a commercial producer active on Broadway. The one-night events, benefiting the Actors Fund, are to start at 8 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday with “November,” a 2008 David Mamet comedy about an unpopular president seeking re-election, starring John Malkovich and Patti LuPone and directed by Mamet. It will be followed, May 14, by “Significant Other,” Joshua Harmon’s play about a gay man increasingly uncomfortable with his singleness as his straight friends pair off; the 2017 Broadway cast for that play, led by Gideon Glick, will reunite for the reading, directed again by Trip Cullman. Marvel Comic Books Are Returning to Stores Later in May

It will still be several months before the superheroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe return to theaters in new adventures, but Marvel Entertainment, the publishing home of Iron Man, Captain America and the Hulk, is preparing to bring its characters back to comic books.Though much of the comic-book publishing industry has been on pause for the spring as it reckons with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, Marvel said that it would release some new comics to stores on May 27, and has set a release schedule for the following weeks through July 8.In an approach similar to the one announced last month by DC, the publisher of Superman and Batman and its closest industry competitor, Marvel will release only a handful of new titles each week. The new books planned for May 27 include the latest issues of Avengers and The Amazing Spider-Man, as well as the first issue of the “Star Wars” spinoff series Doctor Aphra. Titles planned for later weeks include new issues of Thor and Immortal Hulk, as well as some preliminary issues in Marvel’s companywide Empyre crossover series.Diamond Comic Distributors, the industry’s main artery, has said that it plans to resume shipments of new comics and other merchandise later this month.“Black Widow,” the next entry in the Marvel film franchise, was initially set to kick off the summer movie season on May 1. 'Wonder Woman' Director Going to Try Really Hard Not to Direct Spin-Off

    WENN/Adriana M. Barraza

When expressing hopes to steer clear from the upcoming Amazon Prime film, director Patty Jenkins admits that ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ has left her feeling creatively depleted.
    May 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – Director Patty Jenkins has no interest in directing an upcoming spin-off of her record-breaking “Wonder Woman” film.
The filmmaker recently won a pitch for another adaptation of the DC Comics superheroine’s story to stream exclusively on Amazon Prime, but she is hoping she won’t be asked to direct the project.
“I’m not going to direct (the Amazon film) hopefully,” she tells Total Film magazine. “I’m going to try really hard not to. It’s not going to be easy.”
“But (comic book writer) Geoff Johns and I came up with the story and we sold the pitch, and we’re going to get it going. I’ll produce it, for sure.”
Patty, who made history as the first woman to direct a big budget superhero film with “Wonder Woman”, starring Gal Gadot, admits she feels creatively depleted after wrapping up the sequel, “Wonder Woman 1984″.
”I’m not going to nail down a fresh thought about it (the Amazon Prime spin-off) until this movie (‘Wonder Woman 1984’) comes out, because I kind of want to give myself a palate cleanser, and be fresh of mind,” she shares.
“Wonder Woman 1984”, starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal and Robin Wright Penn, is scheduled for release this summer.

    For Disney, a Stricken Empire

LOS ANGELES — It was once a prospering kingdom, the envy of all the land. But in crept an invisible menace. It could be the story line for a classic Disney movie. Instead, Disney is living it — and happily ever after is nowhere in sight. After a decade of spectacular growth, the entertainment conglomerate has been devastated by the coronavirus pandemic. Its 14 theme parks (annual attendance: 157 million) delivered record profits in 2019. They’re now padlocked. Its movie studios (there are eight) controlled a staggering 40 percent of the domestic box office last year. Now, they’re sitting at a near standstill.“From great to good to bad to ugly,” Michael Nathanson, a leading media analyst, wrote in a report of Disney’s extreme reversal in fortunes. “Recession will cause further pain.”On Tuesday, Disney’s new chief executive, Bob Chapek, and Robert A. Iger, Disney’s executive chairman, will offer their first assessment of the damage. Disney is scheduled to report quarterly results after the stock market closes. Analysts are expecting per-share profit of 88 cents, down 45 percent. The true scale of the pandemic’s impact on Disney will not be known until late summer, when Mr. Chapek reports results for the current quarter — the one in which Disney has furloughed an estimated 100,000 employees, slashed executive pay up to 50 percent and taken out a $5 billion line of credit to bolster its liquidity (on top of $8.25 billion secured in March). The Disney board must decide in June whether to pay the company’s usual summer dividend; management is unlikely to recommend it.Disney turned itself into a colossus over the last 14 years. It bought Pixar, Marvel and the “Star Wars” franchise. Most recently, to withstand Silicon Valley’s incursion into Hollywood, Disney swept up media properties like “The Simpsons” and National Geographic with its $71.3 billion purchase of 21st Century Fox assets. Now, however, Disney’s vastness has become a liability, creating a mind-boggling collection of holdings, some of which are often overlooked: four TV studios that together produce about 70 shows; 42,000 hotel rooms and time-share units across three continents; the world’s largest licensing business, with annual merchandise sales of $55 billion; a publishing arm that churns out children’s books, magazines and digital products in 68 countries and 45 languages; a chain of 25 Disney English schools in China. And that is just the tip of Mickey’s toe. Here is a look at the state of some of its operations:ABCThe good news? ABC, which Disney bought in 1995, has been outperforming rival broadcast networks in recent weeks, according to Nielsen data, as young-adult viewers have flocked to comfort-food ABC shows like “Grey’s Anatomy,” headed toward its 17th season, and “American Idol,” one of the few series still shooting. A whipped-together special, “The Disney Family Singalong,” attracted 13 million total viewers, a big number that underscored the power of the Disney brand, especially among families starved for new content during the shutdown. A second singalong is scheduled for Mother’s Day. More
