Andrew Scott Eyed to Play Tony Blair for 'The Crown' Season 5

    WENN

The ‘Fleabag’ actor reportedly has had talks with Netflix bosses about playing former British Prime Minister in the next installment of the hit royal drama series.

    Apr 9, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Andrew Scott has reportedly been asked to play Tony Blair in “The Crown”.

The “Fleabag” actor – who, at 44, is just a year older than the politician was when he was elected Prime Minister in 1997 – has reportedly had talks with Netflix bosses about starring in the fifth season of the show, which is expected to cover the death of Princess Diana in a car accident and the aftermath of the tragedy.

“This role is one of the most anticipated castings on ‘The Crown’,” a source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper. “The final series covers the Prime Minister’s epic clash with the Queen over her response to the death of Diana in 1997.”

“So the creators wanted an adaptable actor like Andrew who has proved he can master the charm and intimidating presence that typified Blair.”

However, Andrew’s agent said he is “unavailable” for the current filming dates, but Dominic West had faced a similar hurdle until he reshuffled his schedule in order to take over as Prince Charles from Josh O’Connor.

According to Variety, production on the next series of the regal drama will begin in July (21).

The fifth season will see another cast refresh as the key figures enter new stages of their lives, with Imelda Staunton taking over as Queen Elizabeth from Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies handing over Prince Philip to another former “Game of Thrones” star, Jonathan Pryce.

Lesley Manville will replace Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret and “Tenet” actress Elizabeth Debicki will play Princess Diana in the latter part of her life, taking over the role from Emma Corrin.

Review: ‘The Nevers,’ From HBO and (Formerly) Joss Whedon

An allegorical alt-superhero series about gifted women in Victorian London makes it to the screen, but without its currently embattled creator. One of the puzzlements of “The Nevers,” the new alt-superhero show beginning Sunday on HBO, is the title. The peculiarly gifted late-Victorian Londoners, mostly women, who serve as the show’s heroes (and some of its villains) are never called “nevers”; they’re most often referred to as the Touched. In the first four of the series’s 12 episodes, nothing is called the Nevers. You can understand not calling a show “The Touched,” but it’s still a little confusing. And the confusion doesn’t end there. “The Nevers,” while handsomely produced and, from moment to moment, reasonably diverting, doesn’t catch fire in those early episodes in part because we — along with the characters — are still trying to figure out what the heck is going on.Before this goes any further, it’s time to mention that “The Nevers” — a rare case these days of a genre series not based on an existing property — was created for the screen by Joss Whedon. There are things to be explained about Whedon’s involvement with the show, but for now let’s stick to the synergism between the new series and his great creation, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”In “Buffy” Whedon worked out one of the best and most sustained metaphors American pop culture has seen: California teenage life as a constant battle against demons, aided by the small band of friends who really get you. In “The Nevers” he tries something similar but in period costume, giving X-Men-like powers to women and other devalued members of Victorian society so that they can actually raise their voices against — and physically confront — the male, colonialist, capitalist hegemony. It sounds good in theory, as if it might have “Buffy”-like potential, with the added enjoyment of a gloss on sources like “Frankenstein,” “Dracula” and “Alice in Wonderland” — a league of extraordinary Victorian women. But in practice it doesn’t take off. It may be that Whedon and his collaborators, including the “Buffy” writer and producer Jane Espenson, just didn’t have the same feel for turn-of-the-20th-century London as they did for contemporary suburban California — there’s a slightly stilted and synthetic quality to “The Nevers,” despite (or maybe reinforced by) the occasional anachronistically modern dialogue. The humor feels arch, and the action, which combines 21st-century fluidity with a rollicking period style, is mostly flat. But there’s also a problem with the overall conception. The allegory in “Buffy” felt universally human and, despite its 1990s suburban specificity, timeless; the framework of “The Nevers” feels narrower, a more self-conscious attempt to tweak a historical situation to make it relevant to the current social and political moment, with suggestions of human trafficking and medical experimentation and a literal, highly graphic depiction of the silencing of women’s voices. (The series was announced in the summer of 2018, about nine months after the first major #MeToo revelations.)And that need for the show to resonate with our present priorities ties into the frustrating vagueness, so far, of the storytelling. The main action of “The Nevers” takes place three years after an “event” whose details won’t be spoiled here. The event led to the disparate abilities, referred to as “turns,” that some Londoners now possess, from typical mutant stuff like seeing the future and physical strength to more unusual afflictions like speaking only in non-English languages or an “Alice in Wonderland”-like propensity to grow in height.Ann Skelly in “The Nevers.” The characters’ abilities originated with an event of mysterious origin and significance.Keith Bernstein/HBOBut it seems — and here it gets unclear — that either everyone has forgotten what the event was, or they have for some reason chosen not to talk about it. You can see a practical reason for this: It tilts the show away from science fiction and puts the emphasis on a mix of fantasy, mystery and period crime drama. Another, less charitable, observation is that it allowed Whedon to indulge in big-conspiracy plotting and delayed narrative gratification in ways that are, so far, more irritating than intriguing.None of this might matter if there were characters that we really cared about and performances that drew us in, but “The Nevers” is also lacking in those departments. The main characters — the action-oriented, prescient Amalia (Laura Donnelly) and the gadget-maker Penance (Ann Skelly), who lead a community of the Touched — are thinly drawn and at best moderately engaging. There are performers around the edges who generate more interest, including Ben Chaplin as a sympathetic policeman, Pip Torrens as an antagonistic aristocrat and Eleanor Tomlinson as a Touched woman gifted with a supernatural singing ability. In considering the future course of “The Nevers,” of course, it’s necessary to point out that Whedon is no longer involved with the show — he left it late last year, coincidentally or not following a round of public accusations of tyrannical and misogynistic behavior on the sets of previous projects. HBO is releasing the series in two blocks of six episodes each, and recent promotional materials have specified that Whedon’s name is attached only to the first block. (Philippa Goslett is now the showrunner; Whedon directed three of the first six episodes and wrote the pilot.)So to a far greater extent than usual, the progress of “The Nevers” through its first season is anyone’s guess, though Amalia probably knows how it all turns out. 'Game of Thrones' to Celebrate 10th Anniversary by Sharing Never-Before-Seen Footage

    HBO

In addition to that, HBO also encouraging fans to take part in a season one marathon of the hit series on Saturday, April 10 to raise funds for charities picked by members of the cast.

    Apr 8, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
“Game of Thrones” bosses are planning to spread the love as they celebrate the 10th anniversary of the hit show’s launch.

The first episode of the fantasy drama aired in April 2011, and to mark the occasion, the show’s producers have shared hours of behind-the-scenes footage, clips and trailers on streaming service HBO Max.

They are also encouraging fans to take part in a season one marathon on Saturday, April 10 to raise funds for charities picked by members of the cast.

On top of that, the TV bosses are also planning to send three couples who staged “Game of Thrones”-themed weddings anniversary gifts including cakes and barrels of wine.

To mark the anniversary, Warner Bros. Consumer Products will also be releasing new products, including a one-of-a-kind Imperial egg by Faberge and a collection of Mikkeller beers inspired by the series.

While the show ended in 2019, HBO isn’t ready to let it go just yet. According to recent reports, the network is currently developing three new spin-off series set in the the universe created by George R.R. Martin.
One of the projects reportedly has the working title “10,000 Ships”, chronicling Princess Nymeria, an ancestor of House Martell and founder of the kingdom of Dorne. It would be set a millennium before the events of “Game of Thrones”, meaning that it would explore much older mythos than the Westeros timeline.
Another project would be set in Flea Bottom. Developed by “Rome” creator, the last project was about the head of the House of Velaryon, Lord Corlyn Velaryon, who is also known as the Sea Snake. It was said that the working title for the project was “9 Voyages”.

Kesha Not Impressed With Caitlyn Jenner's Cringey Cover of 'Tik Tok' on 'The Masked Singer'

    Instagram

The 34-year-old star cannot help but hide her face into her shirt when watching the father of Kylie and Kendall Jenner sing her hit song on the competition show.

    Apr 8, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Kesha, who was previously known as Ke$ha, has reacted to Caitlyn Jenner’s cringey cover of her song on “The Masked Singer”. When watching the father of Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner perform “Tik Tok” on the competition show, the Grammy nominee made it clear that she is not impressed with it.

Making use of TikTok on Tuesday, April 6, the 34-year-old star put out a video of herself hiding her face into her shirt while watching Caitlyn’s performance. Alongside the clip, she wrote, “Live for a cover and live for this outfit… but i mean i have to go.” She then added in the caption, “Feeling like [P. Diddy]… I think?”

Kesha’s reaction came around three weeks after Caitlyn performed her hit song as the Phoenix. The ex-husband of Kris Jenner previously revealed to Us Weekly that she “worked for two months on these three songs” before getting eliminated in the March 17 episode of the show.

“I did ‘Tik Tok’ and I was going to do The Temptations song, ‘I Know You Wanna Leave Me’, and I had a John Denver song. It was tough to get those down,” she admitted at that time. “If I were to go [and do] all the [songs] at the finals, I would have had to learn eight songs. It took me so long to get a couple songs down.”

Caitlyn also divulged that she asked her son Brandon Jenner to train her for “The Masked Singer” preparation. She explained, “He has a studio in his house, so I went downtown to his studio where I could record it and I worked on the songs with him. It was really great… Brandon got really into it and it was a big bonding moment for us. It was fun working on the songs with him.”

Netflix Introduces New Superheroes in First Full Trailer for 'Jupiter's Legacy'

    [embedded content]

Based on a comic series by writer Mark Millar, the series follows the 20th century’s greatest superheroes who are struggling to pass on their powers and responsibilities to their children.

    Apr 8, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Netflix has unveiled the first full trailer for “Jupiter’s Legacy”. Released on Wednesday, April 7, the clip introduces superhero families which members clash with each other as they come from two different generations of superheros.

The trailer opens with a group of people arriving in an island where they apparently get their superpowers from. “Don’t you remember the island and what we had to do to earn these powers?” someone asks in voiceover. Later, the scene cuts to 90 years later with Josh Duhamel’s character Sheldon Sampson sporting long silver hair.

The trailer also hints at the rift between Shel and his children Brandon and Chloe. “The man I knew was never at home when I was a kid. Too busy saving the world,” Brandon says of his dad who pressures them to be the “ideal.”

The video also sees how the older generation of superhero is struggling to adapt to the new world which doesn’t always seem to see someone saving the world as “heroes.” As for the kids, they are having a hard time living in their parents’ shadows.

Based on a comic series by writer Mark Millar and artist Frank Quitely, “Jupiter’s Legacy” follows the 20th century’s greatest superheroes who are struggling to pass on their powers and their responsibilities to their children who seemingly are not ready to be superheroes just yet. It will be the first series from the Millarworld comics to release on Netflix.

Joining Duhamel in the cast are Leslie Bibb, Ben Daniels, Andrew Horton, Elena Kampouris, Mike Wade, Matt Lanter and Ian Quinlan. Meanwhile, Millar, Quitely and showrunner Steven S. DeKnight executive produce the show alongside Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, Dan McDermott, James Middleton and Sang Kyu Kim.

“Jupiter’s Legacy” is set to arrive on May 7 on Netflix.

    Apr 8, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
“The Masked Singer” returned with a new episode on Wednesday, April 7. The night featured performances from Group B finalists including Black Swan, Chameleon, Piglet and Crab. Joining them as this season’s third Wildcard contestant was Bulldog.

Kicking off the night was Black Swan, who belted out Whitney Houston’s “How Will I Know”. She impressed the coaches with her runs, prompting Jenny McCarthy to think that Black Swan was “Hannah Montana” star Emily Osment as her clues included “Hannah Montana”. Ken Jeong guessed Brenda Song, while Robin Thicke named Victoria Justice.

Following it up was Piglet. Piglet took the stage to sing Lukas Graham’s “7 Years”. As for the clue package, Piglet revealed a meaningful object which was a necklace of two dog tags. Nicole Scherzinger thought Piglet might be Backstreet Boys’ Kevin Richardson, while Jenny thought he was his bandmate AJ McLean. Zayn Malik’s name was also thrown into the mix.

Crab then performed a gorgeous rendition of Rick James’ “Give It to Me Baby”. His meaningful object was a black bowler hat that he said was inspired by Sammy Davis, Jr. Jenny and Ken believed that Crab was Bobby Brown. Jenny, however, also added that Martin Lawrence might be the one behind the mask.

Performing next was Chameleon, who opted to sing Dead Prez’s classic hit “Hip Hop”. “I’m always cooking something in the kitchen,” he said after revealing a plate of chicken wings as his meaningful object clue. Nicole guessed Waka Flocka Flame, Robin named Wiz Khalifa, while Jenny guessed Texas-born rapper Machine Gun Kelly.

It was then Bulldog’s turn to show off his talent. He sang New Edition’s “Candy Girl” which he dedicated to temporary host Niecy Nash.

    [embedded content]

Much to everyone’s surprise, Niecy announced that the votes would not count that night. She added that that she would be the one to determine who would be eliminated. She then named Bulldog as the one singer who needed to go home. Before that, he unmasked himself and he was revealed to be longtime “Masked Singer” host Nick Cannon. Nick shared he had finished his COVID-19 quarantine and is preparing his return for the show.
