Robert Downey Jr. Admits His 'Iron Man' Role 'Creatively Satisfying'

    Marvel Studios

While being ‘eternally grateful’ for his 10-year stint as the superhero, the ‘Avengers: Endgame’ actor claims he still has ‘tons more ambition to do things’ he has not done before.

    Dec 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Robert Downey Jr. found it “hard” portraying Iron Man, but he is “eternally grateful” for his 10-year stint as the superhero.
The actor admitted in September (20) that he was “done” with the Marvel Cinematic Universe after his character Tony Stark/Iron Man was killed off in “Avengers: Endgame”, and the star has now told how he did “all (he) could” with his alter-ego, and found the part “creatively satisfying.”
“Each project is different. Playing Tony/Iron Man was hard and I dug deep. I had an incredible 10-year run that was creatively satisfying,” he told the Hindustan Times newspaper. “I’ve done all I could with that character and can do other things now.”

“Now, being middle-aged, you start looking at the back nine and realize this is all part of the journey and things end. I am fortunate and eternally grateful to have wound up where I have.”
Downey Jr. still has big ambitions, but admitted he thinks about how much time he would have to spend away from his family whenever he gets a script nowadays.
“I now have tons more ambition to do things I haven’t done before,” he continued. “Evolving is key – the worst thing you can do is get in your own way. Just in the matter of me wanting to be a fit father, husband and citizen, it’d be irresponsible of me to not keep my eye ahead so I can prepare my mind for what’s to come and the transition.”
“As an actor, every time I get a script now, I think about the commitment and time I’d be away from my missus and kiddos.”

Don Cheadle May Leave Marvel Following 'Avengers: Endgame'

    Marvel Studios

The ‘Hotel Rwanda’ actor who takes over the War Machine role from Terrence Howard has revealed that he signed a six-picture deal which is completed with his appearance on the fourth ‘Avengers’ movie.
    Apr 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Don Cheadle had just two hours to decide whether or not to take on the life-changing role of War Machine in the Marvel franchise.
The “Hotel Rwanda” star was celebrating his child’s birthday party when he received the call informing him that he had been chosen to appear in the blockbuster films as part of a six-picture deal.
Cheadle was overwhelmed by the offer, which would require him to commit to over a decade of productions – but he was given little time to think it over.
“I was actually at my kid’s birthday party – a laser tag party – and I got a call from my agent, and they said, ‘Hey, so I want to connect you to these Marvel guys. They want to talk to you, but they want to offer you the part…’,” he tells The Av Club. “They said, ‘Hey, this is the role. We want you to do this. It’s a six-picture deal’. I was like, ‘What?! Oh, uh, OK…’ And I’m trying to do the math. I’m like, ‘That’s 11 or 12 years. I’m not sure’. And they’re like, ‘Well, we need to know, because if you’re not saying yes, then we’re gonna move on to the next person. So you’ve got an hour.’ ”
He adds, “An hour to decide 12 years, and a role and parts that I don’t even know, in movies that are coming down that I have no idea what they’ll be. I said, ‘I’m at my kid’s laser tag party right now’. They said, ‘Oh! Oh, take two hours.’ ”
After talking the offer over with his wife, Bridgid Latrice Coulter, Cheadle decided it was a role worth taking.
“I go back inside, and I’m ducking behind things, playing laser tag, and talking to my wife,” he shares. “I’m like, ‘Should I take a flier on this? Is this something I should do?’ And she said, ‘Well, yeah, I guess so. All things being equal, this is that kind of thing. You’ve never done anything like this before. Big special effects, tent pole, four-quadrant movie. Do you want to do something like this?’ I said, ‘I kind of do.’ ”
The actor took over the role of War Machine, also known as Col. James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes, from Terrence Howard after the “Empire” star, who portrayed the character in the first “Iron Man” film, left the franchise following creative disagreements with the producers.
Ironically, Cheadle was up for the role before it was offered to Howard, “Early on, I had met on that role, and there were different factions and producers who wanted me and others that wanted Terrence, and the biggest voice in the room for that won, and Terrence got the part,” he adds. “I thought he was great in the first (Iron Man). And then through some stuff that is well-documented that they went through behind the scenes, it wasn’t his part anymore, so I got a call.”

Sebastian Stan Appears to Diss Captain America and Bucky's Ending in 'Avengers: Endgame'

    Marvel Studios

The Bucky Barnes depicter agrees with a fan who is taken aback by the ‘out-of-character writing’ for his character and Steve Rogers’ storyline in the last ‘Avengers’ movie.
    Jan 31, 2020
AceShowbiz – Sebastian Stan is apparently not a fan of the ending of Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers’ storyline in “Avengers: Endgame”. Almost a year since the movie was released in theaters, the actor has just let his actual feelings be known about Chris Evans’ Captain America passing his shield to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson instead of his longtime friend Bucky.
The Romanian-born actor posted on Instagram Stories a screenshot of a fan’s complaint on Twitter about the so-called “out-of-character writing” in regards to Steve and Bucky’s friendship in the movie. The fan reacted to a post by Marvel U.K. & Ireland’s official Twitter account which wrote, “Together until the end of the line,” along with a photo of then-skinny Steve and Bucky in his soldier outfit.
The said fan replied sarcastically to the post, “together until the end of the line. Or until bad, inconsistent, out-of character writing turns Steve Rogers into his own anti-thesis. Shouldn’t it be ‘together until the end of the lie’ now?” Stan added a flushed face emoji over it.
Apparently understanding Stan’s feelings, “Star Wars” actor John Boyega posted on Twitter, “Welcome Mr Stan ! Welcome,” along with a gif of Emperor Palpatine laughing. Boyega himself has previously shaded the decision regarding the franchise’s handling of Rey, Finn and Kylo Ren relationship in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”.
Stan has not responded to Boyega’s tweet and it’s not clear if he was just trolling “The Avengers” franchise with his post. Regardless of his apparent shade, the 37-year-old clearly has no issue being a part of the MCU as he’s currently working with Mackie again on Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, for which they reprise their respective role.
Set after events in the 2019 “Avengers: Endgame”, the upcoming series will also bring back Daniel Bruhl and Emily VanCamp who have previously starred in 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War”. The new series is expected to premiere in late 2020.
