  • Florence Pugh Takes Care Her Own Training and Diet in Preparation for 'Black Widow' Role

    Instagram

Tapped to portray Russian spy Yelena Belova in the new Marvel movie, the ‘Little Women’ star stresses that she does not want to be part of something where she was constantly checked on.
    Oct 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Florence Pugh became her own fitness trainer and nutritionist on the set of “Black Widow”, because she wanted to be in charge of her look and what she put into her body to achieve it.
The defiant “Little Women (2019)” star refused to starve herself or spend hours and hours at the gym to portray Russian spy Yelena Belova in the new Marvel movie, so she told movie bosses she would take care of her own work-outs and diet, promising them she’d look good kicking butt in the film.
“When you think of Marvel, it’s big and daunting, especially (for) a relatively small actor,” she tells Elle Canada. “To look at it and go, ‘Oh, I’m going to be a part of this!’ – that’s a big decision… Essentially, you need to look good moving.”
“For me, I loved all of that because I grew up with a lot of dance and a lot of movement. I was always fighting my brother, so I find all of that combat stuff so exciting. Once you put it on camera, you’ve got to know how to make it look right, and that’s a whole different beast.”

“When I got the job, I wanted to know what the regimen was. I wanted to know whether it would be them or me calling the shots. That was a big deal for me. I didn’t want to be part of something where I was constantly checked on and people were making sure I was in the right shape. That’s not me at all.”

And she took some nutrition tips from co-star Scarlett Johansson: “Scarlett had this amazing guy who cooked beautiful things for her and her team. I thought that was clever because you’re doing fitness all the time and you need to have someone who’s on top of what you’re eating and the nutrients you’re getting.”
“I remember her asking, ‘Why are you cooking for yourself? Just let us feed you!’ I was like, ‘Nope. My brain is so pew, pew, pew!’ Genuinely, my therapeutic thing is chopping and cooking and stirring and tasting.”

  • 'Black Widow' and 'Eternals' Get New 2021 Release Date As Result of COVID-19 Crisis

    Marvel Studios

Also dealing with huge shifts after the pandemic shut down cinemas and Hollywood are Disney’s ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ and Steven Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story’.
    Sep 24, 2020
AceShowbiz – Marvel’s “Black Widow” and “The Eternals” movies have become the latest projects to join the COVID-19 merry-go-round with huge release schedule shifts.
Disney bosses have opted to shelve Scarlett Johansson’s stand-alone Black Widow spin-off for another six moths and the blockbuster will now hit cinemas in May, 2021 – a year after its initial release date before the global health crisis shut down cinemas and Hollywood.
This is the second tim for “Black Widow” to be delayed. Back in March, the studio announced that the much-anticipated movie was postponed due to coronavirus pandemic, though it didn’t reveal a new premiere date at the time. Also being delayed in the March statement were “The Personal History of David Copperfield” and “The Woman in the Window”.

Meanwhile, “The Eternals” will move from February, 2021 to November 5, 2021, and Disney’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” will budge from May to July, 2021.
Also making moves this autumn and winter are Kenneth Branagh’s latest Agatha Christie adaptation, “Death on the Nile”, which slides from October to December 18.
And the release of Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” has been postponed for a full year – instead of hitting cinemas on December 18, the movie musical will now be released on December 10, 2021.
Disney hoped that things would go back normal in 2021. “We’ve got a pretty robust slate through 2021,” Disney’s chief financial officer, Christine McCarthy, told a group gathered at the Bank of America Virtual 2020 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference last week. “We hope theaters are open, and we hope our films are films that for the people who choose to go to movie theaters, the experience of going to a theater is very different from what you would have at home.”

  • 'Black Widow' to Feature #MeToo Story

    Walt Disney Pictures

Scarlett Johansson teases what to expect from the upcoming Avengers movie spin-off that is going to focus on her Marvel superhero character Natasha Romanoff.
    Sep 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Scarlett Johansson’s forthcoming “Black Widow” movie is set to feature a #MeToo storyline.
In a recent interview with British movie magazine Empire, the leading lady opened up on the plot of her new film, teasing it is “very much reflective” of the Time’s Up and #MeToo movements.
“It would be such a miss if we didn’t address that stuff, if this film didn’t take that head-on,” she explained. “I think, particularly for Cate (Shortland, director), it was so important for her to make a movie about women who are helping other women, who lift other women up out of a very difficult situation.”
“Someone asked me if Natasha (Romanoff, aka Black Widow) was a feminist,” Scarlett added of her Marvel character. “Of course she is, it’s obvious. It’s kinda an asinine question.”
“Black Widow” is set to hit theatres on 6 November (20).

  • Florence Pugh Confirmed to Take Over 'Black Widow' Franchise From Scarlett Johansson

    WENN/Marvel Studios

Talking about the casting of the ‘Little Women’ actress, director Cate Shortland praises the Natasha Romanoff depicter for being ‘so gracious’ about the handing of the baton.
    Jul 7, 2020
AceShowbiz – Florence Pugh will take over the “Black Widow” Marvel universe from Scarlett Johansson in the next Avengers-related movie.
“Black Widow” director Cate Shortland has revealed that she and the film’s producers had no idea how “great” the “Little Women (2019)” star would be and they’ve decided to retire Scarlett’s Natasha Romanoff and lead upcoming films with Pugh’s Yelena Belova character.
“We realized that the audience would expect an origin story so, of course, we went in the opposite direction,” Shortland told Empire. “And we didn’t know how great Florence Pugh would be. We knew she would be great, but we didn’t know how great.”
“Scarlett is so gracious, like, ‘Oh, I’m handing her the baton.’ So it’s going to propel another female story line.”
“Black Widow” is scheduled to hit cinemas in October and November after its initial 1 May release date was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Rachel Weisz Nervous About Physically-Demanding Role in 'Black Widow' After Childbirth

    Harper’s Bazaar U.K. Magazine/Pamela Hanson

The new mom admits she feels apprehensive about taking the role in Marvel’s action movie less than a year after giving birth to her child with Daniel Craig.
    May 7, 2020
AceShowbiz – Rachel Weisz found it “daunting” taking on the physically challenging role of spy Melina Vostokoff in “Black Widow” less than a year after having her daughter.
The 50-year-old stars alongside Scarlett Johansson in the Marvel spin-off, with her character acting as a mother figure for Scarlett’s alter ego. But given that filming on the movie began before Rachel’s daughter with Daniel Craig turned one, the screen star felt more than a little apprehensive about throwing herself into such a demanding project.
“I think all women would recognise that as daunting,” she told Harper’s Bazaar U.K. “I didn’t have my core, shall we say. It was a good incentive to do some Pilates and dance cardio…”

Rachel is also hoping the film, when it’s released in November 2020, will help do more for the on-screen representation of women.
“The Eighties and Nineties were really s**t for women,” she sighed. “But I used to watch a lot of black and white movies with my mum – Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Katharine Hepburn, they were very powerful in the narratives. Bette Davis didn’t have superpowers but she’s powerful as hell.”
“I do think it’s important for girls growing up to see stories where women are front and centre, and to see a female politician, or a female prime minister. It’s about identification, it’s seeing possibilities. We need more stories about women. We need more role models!”
As for her own role models, Rachel admitted Wonder Woman is one of her biggest on-screen heroes.

Disney Reschedules 'Black Widow', 'Mulan' and 'Jungle Cruise' After Delay Due to Coronavirus

    Marvel Studio/Walt Disney Pictures

The Scarlett Johansson-starring superhero movie is pushed back to November and the live-action remake of the Disney classic gets a new November date, bumping other films like ‘The Eternals’ and ‘Doctor Strange 2′.
    Apr 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – Disney has made some adjustments to its calendar after delaying a bunch of its upcoming projects due to the coronavirus crisis. The Mouse House has announced new dates for the movies which release dates have been affected by the ongoing pandemic, including the highly-anticipated “Black Widow” and “Mulan”.
The upcoming Marvel film, which was supposed to arrive on May 1, is now scheduled to open on November, taking over the slot which belonged to “The Eternals”. The Angelina Jolie-starring flick now is moved to February 12, 2021.
The live-action remake of the Disney animated classic was supposed to be due out on March 27, is now occupying the July 24 slot, which originally belonged to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s “Jungle Cruise”. As the result, the action adventure film is pushed back a year to July 30, 2021.
The cascading effect doesn’t stop there. “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”, which was originally in the spot now claimed by “The Eternals”, will now open on May 7, 2021. “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”, which originally got the May 2021 slot, is now set for November 5, 2021, bumping “Thor: Love and Thunder” to February 18, 2022.
“Black Panther” is not affected by these shifts, still being set for a May 8, 2022 release. Meanwhile, “Captain Marvel 2” is moved up two weeks to July 8, 2022.
Disney has also announced new dates for Ryan Reynolds’ “Free Guy” (from July 3 to December 11, 2020), “Bob’s Burgers” (from July 17 to April 9, 2021), Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch” (from July 24 to October 16, 2020), and a new “Indiana Jones” film (from July 9, 2021 to July 29, 2022).
Previously, the studio also pulled “The Personal History of David Copperfield”, “Antlers”, “The Woman in the Window” and “The New Mutants” from their original release dates. New dates for these titles are not revealed yet.

'Black Widow' Delay Could Have 'Cascading Effect' on Other MCU Releases

    Marvel Studios

Disney has pushed back the release date of the Scarlett Johansson-starring solo movie, which was initially scheduled to open in theaters around the world on May 1, in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.
    Mar 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Not even “Black Widow” can resist the blow caused by COVID-19. The Scarlett Johansson-starring pic has become the latest movie to push back its release date in light of the coronavirus pandemic that has been crippling the show business in Hollywood and all over the world.
Disney announced on Tuesday, March 17 that the solo movie, which takes place between the events of “Captain America: Civil War” and “Avengers: Infinity War”, will no longer open in theaters worldwide on May 1 as scheduled before.
The studio has also pulled the Dev Patel-led drama “The Personal History of David Copperfield” from its Searchlight banner which was originally due on May 8 and Amy Adams’ “The Woman in the Window”, a 20th Century title, which was supposed to be released on April 15. No new dates are announced for these three movies just yet.
Disney previously delayed the release of the upcoming live-action “Mulan”, “The New Mutants” and “Antlers”, but held off from announcing the postponement for “Black Widow”. Other movies which have been pulled from their original release dates due to coronavirus crisis included “F9”, “No Time to Die”, “A Quiet Place: Part II” and “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway”.
Meanwhile, Shawn Robbins, chief analyst at Boxoffice.com, says that moving “Black Widow” could have a “cascading effect” on the rest of Marvel slate. As it has been widely known, every Marvel film contains material that somehow relates to other MCU projects and sometimes includes easter eggs for the next releases. That’s why releasing Marvel films in accordance to their planned order is important.
Future Marvel releases include Disney+’s series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, “WandaVision” and “Loki”, which have halted production due to coronavirus, “The Eternals”, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and “Thor: Love and Thunder”.
