    Charlie Hunnam Has Not Had the Chance to Regret Turning Down 'Pacific Rim: Uprising'

    Having starred in the original 2013 movie directed by Guillermo Del Toro, the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ actor explains the real reason why he had to step away from the follow-up project.

    AceShowbiz – Charlie Hunnam still has no idea if he regrets exiting the “Pacific Rim” sequel – because he never saw the film.
    The Brit starred in director Guillermo Del Toro’s 2013 movie and was on board for the filmmaker’s follow-up, but when the movie studio exchanged hands and Del Toro stepped away from the project, Hunnam had second thoughts.
    And when the new filmmakers wanted to turn the film around in a hurry, Charlie’s schedule didn’t quite fit and he was forced to turn down the sequel.

    “By the time they circled around and decided that they were gonna make it with a different director, we had a conversation about it but I was booked up,” the “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword” actor tells Collider. “There were business elements of it that required them to go into production very quickly.”
    “Legendary had just been acquired by Wanda out of China, and they wanted that film made very quickly and I wasn’t available. That’s just what happens.”
    “I didn’t deeply lament it… We’d already done one Pacific Rim, so I felt like, ‘Go with God. Go do your thing’. I actually haven’t seen the sequel, so I didn’t ever give myself an opportunity to really think about whether I regret that decision or not.”
    Written by Travis Beacham and del Toro, “Pacific Rim” is set in the future, when Earth is at war with colossal sea monsters called Kaiju which have emerged from an interdimensional portal on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. The follow-up, 2018’s “Pacific Rim: Uprising”, was directed by Steven S. DeKnight and starred John Boyega and Scott Eastwood.

      AceShowbiz – Charlie Hunnam is backing Tom Hardy as the next James Bond, while confessing he’d love to have a crack at 007 himself.
      The actor is considered a rank outsider to take over from Daniel Craig and the smart money is on Hardy landing the role, but Hunnam is calling on fans to keep putting him in the mix – because he knows Hollywood loves chatter.
      “I would be so flattered and honored to be considered to play James Bond as an Englishman, but my intuition tells me that I shouldn’t be waiting for that phone call to come,” he tells People. “I think there are many people ahead of me on that list.”

      Admitting “it’s very flattering sort of fan dialogue,” he notes that “nobody’s ever, on a professional level from within the industry, brought that up to me.” Still, he urges people to keep bringing it up, saying, “As much as people want to talk about me playing James Bond, please continue. Maybe that’s the genesis of these things. Maybe fan chatter leads to industry people actually talking about it in a more serious way.”
      Like many, he’d love to see Hardy as 007, “I hear that he’s really the front runner. I think that would be sensational. I’m an enormous Tom Hardy fan, so I would love to see him as James Bond.”
      Recent reports suggested Bond bosses were about to name Hardy as Craig’s successor just before the release of the latest 007 film, “No Time to Die”, but when the movie shifted from November to next Easter (21), producer Barbara Broccoli announced no casting would be confirmed until the new film came out.

      AceShowbiz – Charlie Hunnam has signed on to star in new film “Denali” about a man who recorded a viral love letter to his dog.
      Adventure photographer Ben Moon shot to Internet fame in 2015 after uploading an eight-minute short made to honor his adopted pet that received millions of views online and won several festival awards.
      Director Max Winkler will lead star Charlie in the new picture for Spyglass Media Group based on Moon’s memoir “Denali: A Man, a Dog, and a Friendship of a Lifetime”, which focuses on how both dog and master helped support each other through their mutual cancer battles over 15 years. The director and actor duo recently worked together on upcoming boxing drama “Jungleland”.
      Hunnam will also produce Denali with Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa of Bona Fide Productions, colleagues he previously worked with on “Cold Mountain”.
      Charlie will next be seen in Apple TV+ crime series “Shantaram”, returning to his roots on the small screen after starring in motorcycle gang show “Sons of Anarchy”.
