    'Coronation Street' Star Bill Roache Written Out of Show to Recover From Covid-19

    The Ken Barlow depicter has been forced to take a hiatus from the long-running soap opera to enter quarantine and recover after he tested positive for coronavirus.

    Actor Bill Roache was forced to take time off filming U.K. soap opera “Coronation Street” after contracting Covid-19.

    The 88-year-old, who has played Ken Barlow in the show since its 1960 debut, tested positive for the coronavirus and was written out of the soap as he took time to recover.

    However, a spokesperson for the ITV show has confirmed Bill is on the mend and is set to return to the famous cobbles “as soon as possible.”

    “Following recent reports about his health, William Roache has asked us to clarify that he took time off work after testing positive for Covid,” they told the Daily Mirror. “He has recovered well and is looking forward to returning to the cobbles as soon as possible.”

    A source added that storylines involving Ken were “currently being written,” explaining bosses are “limiting the time we are filming with the more elderly cast during the pandemic.”

    “He is doing really well and is looking forward to returning,” they shared. “Bill is such a well-loved member of the team and everyone is delighted he has recovered so well.”

    “We can’t wait to have him back.”

    Like most projects, “Coronation Street” halted filming when the lockdown was first announced in March 2020. The cast and crew resumed filming in a restricted manner several months later. Due to social distancing guideline, they used real-life couples as body doubles for kissing scenes.

    “Coronation Street” wasn’t the only show employing the clever trick. Another U.K. soap opera “EastEnders” and U.S. daytime series “The Bold and The Beautiful” also recruited real-life partners for intimate scenes.

      Weighing in on the particular episode that saw Yasmeen suffering a panic attack, the Spice Girls member reveals she helped ‘create’ the storyline based on experience during marriage to Stephen Belafonte.

      AceShowbiz – The writers of long-running British TV soap “Coronation Street” turned to Spice Girls star Melanie Brown to help them craft a shocking Christmas Day storyline on the show.
      The singer has revealed she helped talk them through what it is like to live with “coercive control and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)” as they developed the plot between characters Geoff Metcalfe and Yasmeen Nazir. Mel B, who previously accused her ex-husband Stephen Belafonte of abusive behavior, says, “I like to think I helped shape the scripts… They were able to write parts of the script because of what I told them.”
      The “Wannabe” star and Belafonte divorced in 2017, with Mel revealing last year (19) she now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of her past experiences.

      “It means a lot to me that what Yasmeen goes through in the show is true to life, because we know that because of the storyline lots of people living with abuse have reached out to get help,” Mel adds.
      The storyline exploded in May (20) as Yasmeen, portrayed by Shelley King, stabbed Geoff (Ian Bartholomew) in the neck with a broken bottle following his campaign of abuse.
      Yasmeen’s suffering was well documented on “Coronation Street”, with Geoff abusing her physically, sexually and emotionally.
      On Friday’s (December 25) Christmas Day episode, Yasmeen suffered a panic attack as she imagined Geoff standing in front of her even though he died trying to chase her off a roof and Mel admits it’s a scenario she knows well, “I didn’t even realise for so many years that I was in a coercive relationship,” she tells MailOnline. “It was only through doing my book that I began to fully understand the situation I had been living in for 10 years. And I know I’m not the only one like that.”

      The production on the British soap opera has come to a screeching halt following a Covid-19 scare as an unnamed cast member tests positive for the deadly virus.

      AceShowbiz – Production on British soap “Coronation Street” was briefly halted on Monday (14Sep20) after an unidentified cast member tested positive for coronavirus.
      The unnamed star was on the set of the drama last week (ends11Sep20), and producers are taking no chances.
      A spokeswoman for the ITV soap told MailOnline, “We can confirm a member of the Coronation Street team has tested positive for coronavirus. The protocols we have in place for such an eventuality have been implemented and the individual is now self isolating at home.”
      “Although we do not believe anyone has been within two metres of the individual, as a precaution, the production team who were working with the individual have been notified. In keeping with health and safety guidance, we have also undertaken an intensive clean of touch points in the cohort area where the individual was working and areas of the building they visited.”
      The representative has confirmed filming resumed after the situation was contained.
