    Diane Warren Has to Wait Until 2022 to Collect Her Polar Music Prize Due to Delay Amid Pandemic

    The Songwriters Hall of Famer will be honored at the prestigious Polar Music Prize ceremony along with the 2022 laureates as the event is postponed for the second consecutive year.

    AceShowbiz – Diane Warren will have to wait another year to pick up the prestigious Polar Music Prize as the ceremony has been postponed for the second year in a row.
    The songwriter and Anna Netrebko were named the 2020 laureates, but last year’s event was scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic, and now the rescheduled prizegiving has been bumped to May, 2022, when the two musicians will be honoured alongside the to-be-announced 2022 laureates.
    “Next year is special to us as it will be 30 years since the first presentation of the Polar Music Prize to Sir Paul McCartney and the Baltic States in 1992,” Alfons Karabuda, the chairman of the Polar Music Prize committee says. “We will continue in the very special tradition initiated by the founder of the Prize, the late Stikkan Anderson, but there is no such thing as business as usual with the Polar Music Prize.”

    “No year bears resemblance with the previous ones and 2022 will be no exception. So what can we say about the laureates of 2022? Well, nothing until February 8th, when the announcement will take place in Stockholm.”
    The Polar Music Prize, founded in Sweden by ABBA manager Stig Anderson, is dispersed each year to one artist from the realm of pop and one from the world of classical or jazz music.
    Past recipients included Paul McCartney, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Bjork, Sting’ Metallica, Grandmaster Flash, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen, Patti Smith, and Yo-Yo Ma.

      AceShowbiz – John Legend and Diane Warren have doubled up on their chances of scoring Oscar nominations for Best Original Song after each landing two tracks on the 2021 shortlist.
      Officials at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences released the latest contenders for nine categories on Tuesday (February 09), with Warren’s “lo Si (Seen)” from “The Life Ahead” and “Free” from “The One and Only Ivan” both making the Best Original Song cut – giving the prolific songwriter hope of finally claiming gold after previously snagging 11 nominations.
      “Never Break” from “Giving Voice” and “Make It Work” from “Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey” earn recognition for Legend, who was previously honoured with an Oscar for “Selma” track “Glory”.
      Meanwhile, Leslie Odom Jr.’s “Speak Now” from “One Night in Miami…”, Mary J. Blige’s “See What You’ve Done” from “Belly of the Beast”, and “Judas and the Black Messiah” tune “Fight for You” by H.E.R., Dernst Emile II and Tiara Thomas are also in the running, as are Sacha Baron Cohen’s “Wuhan Flu” from “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” and “Husavik” from “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga”, penned by Savan Kotecha, Rickard Goransson and Fat Max Gsus, Emile Mosseri’s “Rain Song” from “Minari”, Robert Glasper’s “Show Me Your Soul” from “Mr. Soul!”, “Turntables” by Janelle Monae from “All In: The Fight for Democracy”, Daniel Pemberton and Celeste’s “Hear My Voice” from “The Trial of the Chicago 7”, “Green” by Abraham Marder for “Sound of Metal”, and “Mulan” soundtrack “Loyal Brave True” by Jamie Hartman, Harry Gregson-Williams, Rosi Golan and Billy Crabtree complete the 15-strong list.

      Meanwhile, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are inching closer to Oscar nods this year after their work on “Mank” and “Soul”, with Jon Batiste, were added to the Best Original Score shortlist.
      Also vying to make the final nominations announcement are Emile Mosseri for “Minari”, Ludwig Goransson for “Tenet”, Daniel Pemberton for “The Trial of the Chicago 7”, and Alexandre Desplat for “The Midnight Sky”, with soundtracks for “Da 5 Bloods”, “The Invisible Man”, “Ammonite”, “Blizzard of Souls”, “Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey”, “The Little Things”, “Mulan”, “News of the World” and “The Life Ahead (La Vita Davanti a Se)” making up the rest of the contenders.

      Members of the Academy will now vote on the entries which will land on the final nominations list, which will be unveiled on March 15, ahead of the ceremony on April 25.

      The famed songwriter vows to never sell her song catalogue, saying that parting ways with the publishing rights to her tunes would be like selling her soul.

      AceShowbiz – Diane Warren has vowed never to sell her song catalogue, admitting that doing so would be like “selling my soul.”
      While a host of big names, including Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and Stevie Nicks, are among those who have recently made the decision to part ways with the publishing rights to their tunes, songwriter and performer Warren insists she’ll never join their ranks.
      She reflected on the current trend during an interview on the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast, revealing that she’s “friends” with Hipgnosis Songs boss Merck Mercuriadis, and, “He knows that’s a non-starter. It would be like selling my soul, and that’s not for sale.”
      Despite her adamance, Warren added that she can understand why other people are selling their catalogues.

      “I get it,” she continued. “I mean, times are hard. And if you need the money, publishing is so valuable. Truly one of the most valuable assets, I guess, in the world is a great song. But yeah, I’m not interested in selling.”
      Last year, it’s announced that Diane Warren’s music would be featured in a new musical “The Right Girl” about Harvey Weinstein scandal. It is set to revolve around the career fall-out that one of the victims, Louisette Geiss, endured after she was allegedly assaulted by the mogul.
      The show is expected to be directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Susan Stroman while the cast include “Glee” alum Jenna Ushkowitz.
      “Though the story is fictionalized, almost all of the dialogue, lyrics and situations came directly from these contributors and publicly reported stories,” Geiss said in a statement. “Our goal, from day one, has been to amplify and honor these women’s stories, and encourage audiences to help them change the world.”
