Saweetie and Doja Cat Skinny Dipping in 'Best Friend' Music Video

The ‘Tap In’ singer and the ‘Say So’ hitmaker are celebrating their friendship with a new feminist anthem and diving off a cliff naked in the newly-premiered music video.

    Jan 10, 2021
AceShowbiz – Saweetie and Doja Cat have released the feminist anthem, “Best Friend”.
The rappers have treated fans to the track from the former’s upcoming album, “Pretty B**ch Music”, and served up a mouth-dropping music video helmed by David Meyers.
In the clip, the pair are seen diving off a cliff naked, having a slumber party, and driving a bedazzled Tesla.
One line goes, “Beep beep, is that my bestie in a Tessie? / Fresh blow out, skin on tan, ooh, she ready.”

Saweetie’s debut album is due out this year (21) and is preceded by the singles “Tap In” and “Back to the Streets”, featuring Jhene Aiko.

Meanwhile, Doja has been teasing her new era on social media and hinted at a project called “Planet Her”.
The “Say So” hitmaker also suggested she has teamed up with the likes of Megan Thee Stallion and SZA on new music.
Doja is only following eight people on Twitter, the above artists, herself, and Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Young Thug, French Montana, and ASAP Ferg.
Appearing to tease collaborations, she cryptically wrote, “Following them for a reeeeaaaaasssoooonnn 😉 Guess why. (sic)”
The release of Doja Cat’s collaboration with Saweetie, however, was not without drama.
Last month, Saweetie slammed her label for prematurely releasing the song without her consent. “The wrong version at that smh. Like wtf???” she tweeted.
“I feel disrespected,” she wrote. “We put so much work into the visual & we shot for days for this super cinematic girl anthem. And for this to happen? wow….”

Doja Cat Apologizes for Stealing Plini's Song at MTV EMAs, Blames Musical Director for Gaffe

    Instagram

The ‘Say So’ hitmaker has reached out to Australian guitarist Plini after ripping off his song for her performance at the MTV European Music Awards this year.

    Dec 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – Doja Cat sent a string of voice messages to Australian guitarist Plini to apologise after using a snippet of his song in her recent performance at the MTV European Music Awards.
The singer performed her hit “Say So” at the awards ceremony, with viewers quick to point out that she’d used part of Plini’s 2016 tune “Handmade Cities”.
Plini, full name Plini Roessler-Holgate, then issued a statement, writing that “The lack of prior communication about it or proper credit upon release is disappointing but not particularly surprising in a sector of the industry that is usually more interested in clout than creativity (it’s being sorted now, but would have been cooler a million views ago).”
In an interview with MusicRadar, Plini went on to reveal that Doja herself had later been in touch with him to apologise for the misunderstanding.

“I made a comment on Twitter, not really accusing anyone of anything but just because I thought it was funny… and then it turned into this whole thing. I suppose the fans really did all the work, they had all the outrage on my behalf. I was just sitting back wondering what the f**k was happening and finding it hilarious,” he said.
Apparently, the musical director of Doja’s MTV EMA performance had been inspired by Plini’s tune, but the singer herself was unaware of the issue until Plini’s post on Twitter.
“The best part of all this is that I woke up one day with a string of voice messages from her in my DMs, saying sorry and that she wished she’d known about all of this and wished they could have credited me properly, and also praising my song and thanking me for being nice about it,” he concluded.
“I thought about that and realised it was the number one strangest thing that’s happened to me in my career. One of the biggest pop stars is messaging me an apology because someone kinda ripped my music for her live performance. Life is so f**king weird. As far as I’m concerned it’s a great story.”

Doja Cat Has Hilarious Response to a Fan Calling 'Say So' 'Boring'

    Instagram

The RnB singer/rapper performs a hard rock version of the chart-topping hit at the 2020 MTV EMAs, prompting a fan to wonder if she has other songs than ‘Say So’.

    Nov 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – Doja Cat was among the performers at the 2020 MTV Europe Music Videos which took place on Sunday, November 8. For the annual event, the singer/rapper performed her chart-topping singer “Say So”, though she put a hard rock twist on the song.
She kicked off her performance by crawling out of a big screen while donning a white dress. Doja, who sported gothic makeup for the performance, then belted out the notes in a garden full of white flowers.

While the performance was nothing but great, one fan apparently wasn’t satisfied. “does she have other songs? rhetoric question. this getting boring,” the person wondered. Doja seemingly caught wind of the diss as she took to her Twitter account to indirectly respond to it. “im tired of say so too yall,” so she wrote.

Fans were loving her reaction as one joked, “The way she tired if it she had to change the flow.” Another fan added, “love her personality.” Someone else wrote, “this was dope though, Evanescence vibes.” Loving the song and each version of it, a fan said, “She kills it EVERY TIME though!!!”
One user, meanwhile, hoped that it was a hint of new music, asking, “She gonna make new music? Or sum?” Another comment read, “She got other great songs y’all just too busy cancelling her to notice.”
The last comment referred to several controversies that Doja was involved in, one of which was when she was reported to be participating in “racist chat rooms” and used racial slur in a song from 2015. That led #dojaisoverparty to trend on Twitter with people cancelling the singer and slamming her for being racist.
Doja addressed the controversy in a now-deleted Instagram post in May. “I’ve used public chat rooms to socialize since I was a child. I shouldn’t have been on some of those chat room sites, but I personally have never been involved in any racist conversations. I’m sorry to everyone that I offended,” the singer wrote. “I’m a black woman. Half of my family is black from South Africa and I’m very proud of where I come from.”

Nas Thinks Social Media Blows Doja Cat Namedrop Out of Proportion

    Instagram

Earlier this year, Nas sparked buzz after he appeared to shade Doja on his song ‘Ultra Black, rapping, ‘We goin’ ultra Black, unapologetically black/ The opposite of Doja Cat, Michael Blackson black.’

    Nov 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – Nas once again addressed his shade at Doja Cat on his song “Ultra Black” of his album “King’s Disease”. The rapper, who previously claimed to not have any hard feelings for the “Say So” hitmaker, said in a new interview that social media was to be blamed for the tension between him and the singer.
“Well, I’ve been away, so, of course, I mention someone’s name that’s popular and people are gonna talk about it,” Nas told NME on Tuesday, November 3, referring to the song which he released in August. “I hear people do it all the time but no one makes a big deal of it. Maybe it’s because I don’t put out records a lot, so they’re like, ‘Whoa!’ ”
He went on explaining, “I don’t really know the world that these stars live in anymore. I’m rapping the same way I did when I was on the block, but now there’s a new world and what I say can take off with social media and I can’t do anything about it.”

Nas sparked buzz after he rapped, “We goin’ ultra Black, unapologetically black/ The opposite of Doja Cat, Michael Blackson black,” on the said song. It prompted fans to think that he’s referencing to the “Moo!” rapper’s past controversy after a video surfaced showing her joining a group chat full of white supremacists.
Doja, meanwhile, previously said that she couldn’t care less about the diss, alluding that she respects him as an artist she grew up on. “I don’t know, I’m just glad he’s still putting out music, ’cause I love him,” she explained to Fat Joe in a virtual interview when asked how she felt about being addressed by one of her favorite rappers. “I grew up on Nas, so to hear that, I’m like, ‘Damn,’ but also, ‘Damn!’ I f***ing love Nas, thank f***g God he noticed me.”
“I made jokes about it, but other than that, you will never see me beef with Nas,” she continued. “He might want to beef with me, but you’re not gonna see me beef with Nas. You won’t see me respond.”
Nas himself also had the same sentiment in his previous interview. “I just really was saying a rhyme that rhymed with ‘ultra black,’ ” Nas explained his lyrics during his appearance on “Power 106” in Los Angeles back in August. “I didn’t even think of it. It’s all love. It was just like, ‘Michael Blackson black’… It’s bars, it’s lines. We play with words.”

  • Bebe Rexha Gets Candid About Insecurities on Doja Cat Collab 'Baby, I'm Jealous'

    Instagram

Unlike the ‘Me, Myself and I’ singer who is talking about her insecurities on the new tune, the ‘Say So’ hitmaker takes the confident route on her own verse.
    Oct 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – Bebe Rexha has finally returned with new music. For her first release of the year, the singer teamed up with Doja Cat for a collaboration entitled “Baby, I’m Jealous” that made its way out on Friday midnight, October 9.
Her new song finds Bebe getting candid about her insecurities as she sings, “Went from beautiful to ugly/ ‘Cause insecurity told me you don’t love me/ All it takes is a girl above me/ On your timeline to make me nothing.” Unlike Bebe, Doja takes on the confident route on her own verse, “Baby, I’m a bad b***h/ If he fiendin’ he’ll prolly get a catfish/ Keep him dreamin’ to pull up on a nap, s**t.”

      See also…

Bebe and Doja have also been teasing that a music video for the new tune will be released soon, with Hannah Lux Davis serving as the helmer. It’s unclear when the female musicians are going to unleash the visuals, though.
“Baby, I’m Jealous” is most likely going to be included on Bebe’s forthcoming second studio album. The “Me, Myself & I” singer confirmed the project last year, explaining in an interview with Bang Showbiz, “I am heading off to the studio now and I am just creating, creating and creating.”
Earlier this year, Bebe revealed to Ryan Seacrest at the 2020 Grammy Awards that her new album is inspired by her mental health journey. “I talk about everything. I’m bipolar and I’ve been very honest about mental health so I talk about that but it’s in a pop song so you can’t tell. I talk about my relationships — super deep stuff,” she said at the time. “The album is about a lot of my insecurities and fears so every song has to do with an insecurity that I have because I feel like people can relate to that.”

  • Doja Cat Sets Record Straight on Collaboration With Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj

    Instagram/WENN

The ‘Say So’ hitmaker comes out with a response to the long-running rumor months after the ‘7 Rings’ singer claimed in an interview that they had worked together on a new tune.
    Sep 22, 2020
AceShowbiz – Doja Cat has revealed she’s teamed up with Ariana Grande on a new song – but a collaboration between the pair and Nicki Minaj isn’t in the pipeline.
The 24-year-old singer took to her Twitter page to respond to the long-running rumour that she, Ariana and Nicki have joined forces for a new tune. And while she set the record straight about the collaboration, or lack thereof, the “Say So” star delighted fans when she admitted that a duet with Ariana has already been recorded.
“I just want you guys to know the DNA (Doja, Nicki, Ariana) collab is completely a fan made rumor and there wasn’t any plan for it to happen but it sounds like a great idea and i’d love to do it,” she wrote on Sunday, September 20. “Just wanted to debunk it all for you guys cuz i see you all in the comment section buggin out about it.”

She continued, “HOWEVER the Ari and Doja collab exists entirely.”

Doja Cat addressed the rumor of her collaboration with Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj.
Her tweets come after Ariana revealed back in May during an interview with Zane Lowe that she had teamed up with Doja on a new tune.
“I was able to work with her earlier this year on this song that I want to save for whenever it’s time again to drop,” the “Thank U, Next” songstress teased at the time. “I remember when I first wrote it and sent it to her, she was in the shower and she was like, ‘B**ch, I love this’.”

During an interview on Instagram, the ‘Say So’ hitmaker claims that she can’t care less about the diss, alluding that she respects the ‘Patience’ star as an artist she grew up on.
    Sep 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – There are no hard feelings between Doja Cat and Nas despite him taking a jab at her in his song “Ultra Black”. During an interview with Fat Joe on Instagram, the “Say So” singer claimed that she couldn’t care less about the diss, alluding that she respects him as an artist she grew up on.
“I don’t know, I’m just glad he’s still putting out music, ’cause I love him,” she explained when asked how she felt about being addressed by one of her favorite rappers. “I grew up on Nas, so to hear that, I’m like, ‘Damn,’ but also, ‘Damn!’ I f***ing love Nas, thank f***g God he noticed me.”
She went on saying, “I love Nas. So, I don’t give a s**t. He can say whatever he wants. I really don’t care.” The “Like That” songstress also shared that the jab didn’t change her opinion on Nas, adding, “If I love you, I love you.”
It prompted fans to think that he’s referencing to the “Moo!” rapper’s past controversy after a video surfaced showing her joining a group chat full of white supremacists.
In response to the shade, Doja appeared to clap back at Nas by revealing that she’d be releasing a new song titled “NAS” next week. “If you know what I’m talking about, then you know what I’m talking about. If you don’t, you don’t,” she said in an Instagram Live session.
However, the singer made it clear that “NAS” is an acronym rather than a reference to the male rapper’s name. While Doja didn’t reveal what the title stands for, fans assumed that it stands for “N****s Ain’t S**t”.

  • Doja Cat Thought MTV VMAs Win Was 'Sick Prank'

    Instagram

The ‘Say So’ hitmaker initially thought she was being pranked when she was announced as a winner for 2020 Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards recently.
    Sep 2, 2020
AceShowbiz – Doja Cat feared she was being fooled when she was announced as the winner of the Push Best New Artist trophy at Sunday’s (30Aug20) MTV Video Music Awards.
The “Say So” hitmaker beat out competition from the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Roddy Ricch, and Yungblud for the trophy – but she tells MTV she thought she’d fallen victim to a “sick prank” when her name was called.
“I was really, really excited to find that out and I didn’t know how to try to hold myself back from tears,” she says. “I usually say that I don’t care about this kind of thing, but I actually do. I now know that I do care about getting this award, a lot.”
“It means that there are people out there who enjoy my music and they care about me, like they care about the craft. They care about what I’m doing. That’s amazing for me because I just enjoy doing it, period. If people didn’t like it, I’d probably still be doing it, but it’s really cool that people support it.”
The win comes as Doja prepares to drop her forthcoming third album and, while she insists she “can’t say when” the record is due, she teased each new song has its own “personality.”
“I really want to make it a surprise. I don’t want to say too much,” she smiles. “It’s not gonna be perfectly consistent – I’ve never been, anyway. But we have some dancehall stuff on there, some Afrobeat stuff, some funk, house. I’m trying to cover all bases.”
