Super Bowl LV: 'F9' Unveils New Preview, M. Night Shyamalan's 'Old' Debuts Mysterious Trailer

    [embedded content]

The ‘Fast’ sneak peek reunites the big family in addition to bringing back some familiar faces, while the ‘Old’ TV spot sees strange things happening to a family at a beach.

    Feb 8, 2021
AceShowbiz – Universal Pictures is making use of Super Bowl LV to promote its upcoming movies. The studios released a TV spot each for “F9” and “Old” before the big game, which aired live from Tampa, Florida on Sunday, February 7.
The new sneak peek for the next installment in the “Fast Saga” reunites the big family at dinner. “The world has a way of changing,” says Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto in voiceover, “but there’s one thing that always stays the same.”
From there, the mood quickly changes as it previews some high-octane action sequence, including high-speed car chase scene for which the franchise is known. The 30-second sneak peek also teases the return of Sung Kang as Han Lue, Helen Mirren as Magdalene Shaw and Charlize Theron as Cipher.
In “F9”, Dom has been leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and his son, Brian Marcos, but is forced to confront the sins of his past as imminent danger threatens his family. He must face his own younger brother Jakob (John Cena), a deadly assassin, who is working with their old enemy Cipher, and who holds a personal vendetta against Dom. It is slated to hit theaters in the U.S. on May 28.
Diesel recently opened up about his excitement to show the film to fans of the franchise. “Definitely eager to share it,” he told EW. “When you make a good movie, your first goal is to make something that you can be proud of, and in the film business, you learn from the very beginning that when the film gets released, even without the pandemic, is rarely in your control. But when you really think about the quality of the movie, there’s more time you have to work in post-production, more time to get the shots right; it does give you a little bit of a cushion.”

“I want to get the movie out for all of the great fans who have been waiting for this chapter – and yet look at the world that we live in,” he went on gushing. “It is going to be a special day when that audience is back in the movie theater, celebrating the ninth chapter of this saga that they’ve been so loyal to.”
“Old”, meanwhile, is an upcoming thriller from visionary filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan. Inspired by the graphic novel “Sandcastle” by Pierre Oscar Levy and Frederik Peeters, it centers on a family on a tropical holiday who discovers that the secluded beach where they are relaxing for a few hours is somehow causing them to age rapidly, reducing their entire lives into a single day.
It stars Gael Garcia Bernal, Eliza Scanlen, Thomasin McKenzie, Aaron Pierre, Alex Wolff, Vicky Krieps, Abbey Lee, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Ken Leung, Rufus Sewell, Embeth Davidtz and Emun Elliott among others. Marking Shyamalan’s return to the big screen since 2019’s “Glass”, “Old” is scheduled to open in theaters on July 23.

The movie is part of Shyamalan’s two-project deal with Universal Studios that was announced in October 2019. A second thriller film by the director is set for release on February 17, 2023, but the title is currently unknown.

Though the core storyline following Diesel’s character will conclude with an 11th film, that doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the “Fast & Furious” cinematic saga. Words are spin-off movies based on “Fast & Furious” characters are currently in development at Universal.
The “Fast & Furious” franchise was kicked off with its first film which was released in 2001. It has spanned eight movies and a spin-off, “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw”, which centers on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw.

On Friday (October 02), MGM executives announced they were moving the latest 007 film, “No Time to Die”, from 20 November (20) to April (21) due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic concerns – setting up a clash with “F9” over the 2021 Easter weekend.

The executives and producers of both major releases are hoping more cinemas will be open when the blockbusters drop. At present theatres in New York and Los Angeles remain closed due to the pandemic and theatres in the U.K. face a possible lockdown in the coming weeks.
The upcoming Bond movie was initially scheduled for release in April of this year. Due to the spread of COVID-19, in March, MGM and Eon Productions announced that after “thorough evaluation of the global theatrical marketplace” they had postponed the release of “No Time to Die” until 12 November 2020 in the United Kingdom and 25 November 2020 in the United States. The U.S. release date was later brought forward by five days to 20 November 2020.

  • 'Fast and Furious 9' Going to Outer Space, Michelle Rodriguez Confirms

    Universal Pictures

The Letty Ortiz depicter lets slip a juicy detail of the upcoming installment of the action film franchise when asked about the rumor which was first sparked by her co-star Ludacris.
    Sep 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Michelle Rodriguez couldn’t hold back her tongue when talking about “F9”. The Letty Ortiz of the “Fast & Furious” film saga has let slip a juicy detail of the upcoming installment of the franchise when stopping by SiriusXM’s “The Jess Cagle Show” on Thursday, September 10.
During an interview with hosts Jess Cagle and Julia Cunningham, the 42-year-old was asked if she was heading to space with Ludacris, who first teased the space venture in the ninth movie. Surprised at how they found out the information, she failed to keep her cool and inadvertently confirmed it.
“Oh, no way. How did you guys find that out? See what happens? People start talking behind the scenes, man,” she responded, not denying the said plot detail. Blaming in on the long gap between the eighth and ninth film, she speculated, “When a movie doesn’t come out and forget about it, things get out.”
“Nobody was supposed to know that,” Rodriguez went on claiming, not realizing that she only made it worse. She eventually gave an answer to the actual question as saying, “Oh, well, no, I’m not, I’m not, I’m not lucky enough to hit space.”
The “Avatar” star also revealed that the movie’s writing team includes a female writer, something which she had been pushing for. “…we did get a female writer and showed a lot of love, I think, on this one,” she shared. “Thanks to…Justin Lin. We were able to, to find a little bit more attention and love for the girls in the movie. And so I’m really hopeful that that, that shows through in the final product.”
“Super grateful that they were open to it. I wanted a female writer. I wanted all the females in Fast & Furious to get some love,” she continued to show her appreciation for the movie execs for listening to her aspiration. “The thing is, is that all the guys are focused on the guys, period,” she explained, hoping for a change with the addition of a female writer. “And so I just know that if I bring up a female writer and she might care a little more about the female story.”
“F9” was originally slated to hit theaters on May 22 of this year, but it has been pushed back for almost a year due to COVID-19 pandemic. The Vin Diesel-starring movie is now scheduled to open in theaters on April 2, 2021.

The much-anticipated film was set to debut on May 22, but bosses at Paramount took to Facebook on Thursday, March 12 to announce the film’s release would be delayed by 11 months.
