Gal Gadot Names Princess Diana as Inspiration for Her Wonder Woman

    Warner Bros. Pictures

The Israeli actress, who has portrayed the DC superheroine since 2016, reveals she based her character on the late Princess of Wales after watching a documentary.

    Apr 15, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Gal Gadot has revealed a surprising inspiration behind her Wonder Woman. While it’s widely known that the character was created by William Moulton Marston and H. G. Peter for DC Comics, for her portrayal of the superheroine in the DCEU, the actress based it on Princess Diana.

The Israeli beauty made the revelation during a virtual awards season chat for Vanity Fair on Tuesday, April 13. Pointing out compassion and caring for others as the same qualities of both the fictional character and the real-life figure, the 35-year-old said she got the idea after watching a documentary about the late British royal.

“I remember watching a documentary about Princess Diana and there was a part where they said she was full of compassion and always cared for the people,” she said during the Vanity Fair Cocktail Hour Live! event, “and that was like, ‘Ding, ding, ding,’ that should be the Wonder Woman we have.”

Gadot also explained in the interview that she wanted her character to be both inspiring and relatable. “… How can you connect to a goddess that’s super strong and has it all and [is] super perfect?” she said of Wonder Woman. “I wanted to show her vulnerabilities and heart.”

Gadot first portrayed Wonder Woman, whose real name is coincidentally Diana Prince, in 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”. She went on to star in the solo film “Wonder Woman” and the ensemble pic “Justice League”, both of which were released in 2017. She most recently reprised the character for the sequel “Wonder Woman 1984” (2020) and “Zack Snyder’s Justice League”, an alternate cut of the 2017 movie.

Princess Diana, who is the mother to Prince William and Prince Harry, died in August 1997 at age 36 after being involved in a car crash in a Paris tunnel. Often dubbed the “People’s Princess,” the Princess of Wales left a legacy that still has a deep impact on the royal family and British society to this day.

Gal Gadot Confirms 'Issues' With Joss Whedon Amid Feud Rumors on 'Justice League' Set

    WENN

The ‘Wonder Woman’ actress confirms she had her differences with the former Marvel filmmaker as she’s rumored to clash with him over plans to make her character more aggressive.

    Apr 7, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Gal Gadot has confirmed reports she clashed with Joss Whedon on the “Justice League” set over the director’s plans to toughen up her “Wonder Woman” character.

A new expose in The Hollywood Reporter suggests the filmmaker and the actress fell out after he stepped in to complete the Warner Bros. blockbuster following Zack Snyder’s exit, and “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins had to intervene and talk to movie studio bosses.

The piece, centred on a new interview with Ray Fisher who has previously made it clear he and Whedon clashed over the director’s “gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable” behaviour on the “Justice League” set, suggests Gadot had several issues with the moviemaker as he allegedly tried to make her character more aggressive.

“She wanted to make the character flow from one movie to the next,” a source tells the publication, while another insider tells The Hollywood Reporter that Whedon allegedly threatened to harm the Israeli actress’ career if she didn’t follow his lead and read lines she didn’t want to.

“He told her he’s the writer and she’s going to shut up and say the lines and he can make her look incredibly stupid in this movie,” the witness said.

In a statement, Gadot states, “I had my issues with him (Whedon) and Warner Bros. handled it in a timely manner.”

The director, who has been hit with several allegations of misconduct and inappropriate behaviour from the stars of his films and TV shows in the past year, has yet to comment.

Gadot previously told the Los Angeles Times her experience with Whedon “wasn’t the best one” but added, “I took care of it there and when it happened I took it to the higher-ups and they took care of it.”

She also supported co-star Fisher, adding, “I’m happy for Ray to go up and say his truth.”

Fisher’s initial complaint sparked an official investigation by WarnerMedia, led by former federal judge Katherine Forrest, who told The Hollywood Reporter she found “no credible support for claims of racial animus” or racial “insensitivity.”

Fisher has slammed the investigation several times.

Gal Gadot Says 'Wonder Woman 1984' Gold Armor Is Painful to Wear

    Warner Bros. Pictures

The Diana Prince depicter talks about the new Wonder Woman costume in the second movie, claiming it’s not really comfortable and practical but it’s worth the pain.

    Jan 18, 2021
AceShowbiz – Actress Gal Gadot suffered for her art on the set of “Wonder Woman 1984” after having to endure the “pain” of wearing the ceremonial gold battle armour in the new sequel.
The star was thrilled when she first laid eyes on the eagle-like metallic costume, but she quickly realised it would be neither comfortable nor practical to fight in onscreen.
“When we decided to go for another outfit, I was very excited,” Gadot told OK! magazine. “And when (director) Patty Jenkins showed me what we were going for, I was stoked.”
“I thought the costume looked fantastic, but it didn’t look comfortable at all. I was like, ‘OK, how do we make the golden one practical and comfortable?’ Well, it wasn’t. But it looks great and it was worth the pain!”

The Israeli beauty was no stranger to the superhero’s uncomfortable outfits – she previously hid the fact she could barely breathe in Wonder Woman’s corset-style costume when she was initially cast as the DC Comics icon and her alter ego, Diana Prince.
“Two days after they cast me for the role, they brought me to Michigan to do the fittings,” she recalled.
“I walked into this huge room where there were tons of images of me as Wonder Woman. They got me into the fitting room and I put on the costume, which was crazy.”
“I was so grateful, thankful, and happy to be there that I didn’t say a word about the fact that the costume was incredibly small and tight. I just kept saying, ‘Thank you for having me.’ And then I started to breathe really heavily and couldn’t really speak, so the designer did lots of adjustments!”

Gal Gadot Burst Into Tears Watching 'Wonder Woman 1984' for First Time

    Warner Bros. Pictures

The Diana Prince depicter has a very reaction to the ‘Wonder Woman’ sequel, claiming that she was overwhelmed with emotions when she was watching it for the first time.

    Jan 10, 2021
AceShowbiz – Gal Gadot was “caught off guard” by her emotions the first time she saw “Wonder Woman 1984”.
The 35-year-old actress was so transported by the film – in which she plays Diana Prince and her titular alter ego – that she didn’t even think about her own involvement.
She told HELLO! Magazine, “I can’t tell you about the moment in the movie that made me cry other than it happens at the very beginning.”
“I’ve never experienced that before. I was watching and all of a sudden I wasn’t the actress, the producer, or anything on set.”
“I was a little girl from a suburb in Israel watching this amazing character doing such incredible things. And I’m not an easy crier. I’m not the kind of woman who watches commercials and cries.”

      See also…

“I just had such a strong reaction to this movie and it caught me off guard. Usually, I save my crying for special occasions… like when I’m pregnant!”
Gadot is proud her character has proven to be inspirational for so many people.
She said, “It’s something I wasn’t really prepared for, so to see and hear the reaction from women, men, boys and girls, is just incredible.”
And one fan, in particular, has stuck with her.
She said, “There was one little boy I will always remember. He saw the movie and told his mother, ‘When I grow up, I want to be a woman.’ ”
“It was all because of Wonder Woman and everything she stands for and symbolises.”

'Wonder Woman 3' Greenlit With Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins Returning

    Warner Bros. Pictures/Clay Enos

Warner Bros. Pictures officially announces a sequel to ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ is in the works as the last of the planned trilogy following the enthusiastic response to the sequel’s HBO Max release.

    Dec 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – Warner Bros. Pictures didn’t need much time to consider whether to give “Wonder Woman 3” a green light or not following the release of “Wonder Woman 1984”. The studio has announced that the third and last installment of the planned trilogy is officially in the works with Gal Gadot reprising her role as the Amazon princess and Patty Jenkins back at the helm.
“As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince, driving the strong opening weekend performance of ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, we are excited to be able to continue her story with our real life Wonder Women – Gal and Patty – who will return to conclude the long-planned theatrical trilogy,” said Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group, in a statement on Sunday, December 27.
The news surely came as a gift to “Wonder Woman” fans, who helped fast-track the threequel with their enthusiastic response to the movie’s release via streamer. While it received lukewarm response at box office, debuting to only $16.7 million in North America following its theatrical release on December 25, the movie garnered much more interest on HBO Max where it’s made available for subscribers in the United States.

WarnerMedia reports that on HBO Max the sequel to 2017’s “Wonder Woman” was viewed by “nearly half of the platform’s retail subscribers viewing the film on the day of its arrival, along with millions of wholesale subscribers who have access to HBO Max via a cable, wireless, or other partner services. HBO Max also saw the total viewing hours on Friday more than triple in comparison to a typical day in the previous month.”
Due to the high demand to access to “Wonder Woman 1984″, some users reported various glitches, either 4K streaming problems or Roku bad connections. Andy Forssell, head of WarnerMedia’s direct-to-consumer business, claimed, ” ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ broke records and exceeded our expectations across all of our key viewing and subscriber metrics in its first 24 hours on the service, and the interest and momentum we’re seeing indicates this will likely continue well beyond the weekend.”
He added, “During these very difficult times, it was nice to give families the option of enjoying this uplifting film at home, where theater viewing wasn’t an option.”
Jenkins previously shared she already had plans for “Wonder Woman 3”, should it be given a go and she return for it. “I have pretty clear plans for ‘Wonder Woman 3’,” the director said back in 2019. “Whether I [direct] it or not, I see how her arc should end in my incarnation of Wonder Woman. I have great passion for that.”

Gal Gadot Lashes Out at Critics as She Defends 'Cleopatra' Casting

    WENN

The ‘Wonder Woman’ actress has fired back at the critics who find fault with her casting as the iconic Egyptian queen in the upcoming big screen project.

    Dec 24, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Wonder Woman” star Gal Gadot has fired back at crazy criticism suggesting she’s the wrong nationality to portray Cleopatra in a new movie about the ancient queen.
The Israeli star will be reteaming with “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins for the project, and some over-sensitive film fans have called for recasting.
“First of all, if you want to be true to the facts then Cleopatra was Macedonian,” Gal rages in her response. “We were looking for a Macedonian actress that could fit Cleopatra. She wasn’t there, and I was very passionate about Cleopatra.”
“I have friends from across the globe, whether they’re Muslims or Christian or Catholic or atheist or Buddhist, or Jewish of course. People are people, and with me, I want to celebrate the legacy of Cleopatra and honour this amazing historic icon that I admire so much.”

Gal adds, “You know, anybody can make this movie and anybody can go ahead and do it. I’m very passionate that I’m going to do my own too.”
The backlash surrounding Gal’s Cleopatra casting comes as she prepares to launch the “Wonder Woman” sequel on Christmas Day (25Dec20).
Before bringing Cleopatra to life on the big screen, Gal Gadot is next to appear in Kenneth Branagh’s “Death on the Nile”, a sequel to his 2017 film “Murder on the Orient Express”. She shares screen with the likes of Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, Letitia Wright, Annette Bening, and Russell Brand.
She is also tapped for action comedy thriller “Red Notice” with Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds.

Gal Gadot Confirms She's Included in Very Thorough 'Justice League' Investigation

    WENN

The Wonder Woman star reveals she was interviewed as a part of a ‘very thorough’ inquiry into the misconduct allegations made by Ray Fisher against Joss Whedon.

    Dec 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Gal Gadot was interviewed as part of WarnerMedia’s investigation into alleged misconduct on the “Justice League” set.
The actress has confirmed she was included in the “very thorough investigation” into allegations made by actor Ray Fisher, who previously accused Joss Whedon and producers Geoff Johns and Jon Berg of engaging in misconduct.
Gal – who starred as Wonder Woman in the 2017 movie – said, “I know that they’ve done a very thorough investigation, even just by how much time I spent with them.”
WarnerMedia recently confirmed it had concluded its investigation and that remedial action has been taken. However, the company refused to elaborate on what action had been taken.
Speaking to “The Big Ticket”, Gal confessed, “I don’t know what that means either. I’m curious to know what’s going to be the outcome.”

Earlier this year, Ray alleged that racial issues played a role in determining the film’s final cut.
The actor – who played the part of Cyborg in the movie – suggested the decision to give his character a diminished role in the film “was neither an accident nor coincidence.”
Speaking about his experience of making the movie, Ray explained, “The erasure of people of colour from the 2017 theatrical version of Justice League was neither an accident nor coincidence.”
The Hollywood star also blasted the director’s attitude on Twitter, writing his “treatment of the cast and crew of Justice League was gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable.”
“He was enabled, in many ways, by Geoff Johns and Jon Berg… Accountability >Entertainment. (sic)”
Meanwhile, Ray confirmed earlier this month (Dec20) he’d received a statement from WarnerMedia about the investigation, but stressed there are “still conversations that need to be had and resolutions that need to be found.”
