George Clooney to Tackle New 'Buck Rogers' Series as Executive Producer

    WENN/Phil Lewis

The ‘Catch-22’ actor is currently not signed up to appear in the new show that is said to be Legendary’s ‘prestige limited series’ and be developed as a ‘starring vehicle’ for him.

    Jan 30, 2021
AceShowbiz – George Clooney is set to produce a new “Buck Rogers” TV series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Clooney will executive produce the new show with his Smokehouse partner Grant Heslov. And while he’s currently not signed up to appear in the series, it’s reportedly being developed as a “starring vehicle” for him.
The project is being developed as a “prestige limited series” by Legendary, with the hopes that it can also launch a film and animated spinoff if successful.
Buck Rogers first appeared in Philip Francis Nowlan’s 1928 novel “Armageddon 2419 A.D”, before going on to land his own comic strip – which told the story of how Rogers was trapped in a coal mine during a cave-in, before waking up 500 years in the future.

The comic strip, which also prompted other newspapers to launch strips such as “Flash Gordon” and “John Carter of Mars”, ran until 1967.
It’s not the first time it’s been adapted into a TV series. However, the two TV shows in 1950 and 1979 were both short-lived.
Clooney has not appeared on the small screen since “Catch-22” in 2019.
That aside, Clooney has been flaunting her happy marriage to Amal Clooney. The “Ocean’s Eleven” star revealed in a new interview that they kept their tradition to exchange love letters despite spending more time than ever together under the same roof due to COVID-19 lockdown.
“Even in lockdown, I’ll write a letter and slip it on her desk, or she’ll write a letter and leave it under the pillow,” the actor told AARP the Magazine. “I’m a big believer in letters. I have letters from Paul Newman, Walter Cronkite, Gregory Peck. I have them framed. I put them in the house.”

    WENN/Nicky Nelson

While chatting to Michelle Pfeiffer for a Variety Studio: Actors on Actors segment, the Oscar winner recalls upsetting makeup crew for breaking eye socket during a lunchtime basketball game.

    Jan 23, 2021
AceShowbiz – George Clooney had to film a scene with Michelle Pfeiffer while he was still drunk after a heavy night out with pal and business partner Rande Gerber.
The movie star admits he was far from professional when he showed up on the set of 1996 film “One Fine Day” still hammered.
The Oscar winner made the confession while chatting to Pfeiffer for a Variety Studio: Actors on Actors segment, revealing he didn’t think he had work the next day when he agreed to a night out with his friend.
“I woke up… and I was like, ‘I feel OK!’ ” George recalled, “and I looked in the mirror and I was like, ‘Ah, I’m still drunk.’ And I got to the set and walked into the trailer and you (Pfeiffer) looked at me and you go, ‘What?’ and I was like, ‘I didn’t know we were going to work today,’ and you go, ‘You’re still drunk!’ ”

“I kept trying to spray whatever mouth spray I could because I smelled like a distillery.”

Clooney also upset the film’s makeup crew by taking an elbow to the face during a lunchtime basketball game.
“I broke my eye socket,” he chuckled. “It kept swelling and I was like, ‘I can still shoot.’ Remember, we actually shot scenes where we blocked half of my face with a kid?”
A concerned Pfeiffer asked her former co-star whether the injury healed completely, “because you shattered your eye socket.” He said, “Pretty much. Yeah,” before jesting, “It works fine now. Only when I sneeze.”

George Clooney Hospitalized With Stomach Pains Due to Extreme Weight Loss for 'Midnight Sky' Role

    Netflix

The Oscar-winning actor reveals he landed in hospital after struggling with stomach pains due to weight loss as he prepared for his role as a desperate astronomer in a new movie.

    Dec 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – George Clooney was hospitalised with pancreatitis after dropping close to 30 pounds (13.6 kilograms) for his new movie, “The Midnight Sky”.
The 59 year old wanted to look the part as a desperate astronomer who had survived an apocalyptic event, but he took his weight loss plan a little too far and was rushed to the hospital with stomach pains just before filming began.
“I think I was trying too hard to lose the weight quickly and probably wasn’t taking care of myself,” the Oscar winner, who spent weeks recovering, tells The Mirror.

“It took a few weeks to get better and as a director, it’s not so easy because you need energy. We were out on this glacier in Finland, which made it a lot harder work. But it certainly helped with the character.”
“I didn’t know that the guy was 70 because I hadn’t read the book when I read the screenplay,” Clooney told Deadline. “I just knew that he was really sick… I was more gaunt and more drawn in.”
“It was a balancing act. We had a skeleton crew, so we’re carrying camera boxes ourselves. You could only do a take out in the snow (in Iceland) without goggles and I could only last for about a minute and 10 or 15 seconds before my eyelids would freeze shut. So I’d have to come back in and they had a blow dryer.”
“We were sitting in a van and they would blow dry my eyelids so my eyelashes would melt. Then I’d go back out and shoot the scene again.”

George Clooney Turning Down Movie Role to Avoid Infecting Asthmatic Son With Covid-19

    WENN

The ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ actor cites family’s health as he opens up about the real reason why he had to back out of the upcoming Steven Soderbergh movie this year.

    Dec 1, 2020
AceShowbiz – George Clooney had to drop out of a Steven Soderbergh movie to make sure he didn’t bring COVID-19 home and infect his asthmatic son.
The Oscar winner was looking forward to jetting off to make the movie “Kill Switch” with Don Cheadle and the filmmaker, but had to turn to the job down for the sake of his family’s health.
“I’ve got a son with asthma,” Clooney tells Deadline. “It’s not like I can just go taking any chances.”
“I had to drop out of the Soderbergh film that he was shooting because of that, which was a bummer because it’s a great part. It looks like I would have gotten to work with Don Cheadle and everybody again. It really looked like fun.”

“Kill Switch”, which has since been retitled “No Sudden Move”, features Cheadle, Benicio Del Toro, David Harbour, Amy Seimetz, Jon Hamm, Ray Liotta, Kieran Culkin, Brendan Fraser, and Matt Damon among others.
Cheadle, Soderbergh, Clooney, and Damon all worked together on “Ocean’s Eleven”, “Ocean’s Twelve”, and “Ocean’s Thirteen”.
Clooney is dad to three-year-old twins Alexander and Ella with wife Amal.
In a GQ interview recently, the actor admitted he never wanted to get married and have children until he met wife Amal. “For 36 years, I was the guy that if some kid popped up and started crying, I’d be like, ‘Are you f**king kidding me?’ And now suddenly I’m the guy with the kid, you know?” he said
“I was like, ‘I’m never getting married. I’m not gonna have kids,’ I’m gonna work, I’ve got great friends, my life is full, I’m doing well.”

George Clooney Raves Over Young 'Midnight Sky' Co-Star: She Puts to Shame Lot of Grown Actors

    Netflix

Aside from praising newcomer Caoilinn Springall, the Oscar winner reveals that he drew inspiration from Jackie Gleason’s ‘Gigot’ when preparing for his desperate scientist role.

    Nov 24, 2020
AceShowbiz – George Clooney is raving about young newcomer Caoilinn Springall, revealing she taught him a thing or two about acting on the set of his upcoming Netflix film “The Midnight Sky”.
The Oscar winner has worked with kids in the past but his latest co-star really pulled the best performance out of the actor/director as he portrays a lonely Arctic scientist in the post-apocalyptic film.
“She’s never acted before, I mean that’s just crazy to me,” Clooney tells Deadline. “So here’s this little girl, she shows up. And actors, kid actors in particular, but most actors, they kind of plan out how they’re going to do a scene. But she would just be in the scene and when we’re looking up at Polaris, and we’re sitting in those chairs, she doesn’t just kind of react like she knows she’s supposed to.”

      See also…

“When I say, ‘Look up at Polaris’, she looks up, and then she looks at me. She really takes it in and it gives us the ability to keep those moments really full. She puts to shame a lot of grown actors, including myself, who had to prepare for a scene.”
Meanwhile, Clooney reveals he was really inspired by Jackie Gleason movie “Gigot” as he prepared to play the desperate scientist in “The Midnight Sky”.
“I remember seeing it (Gigot) as a kid,” he recalls. “It may be a terrible movie, I don’t remember. It was with Jackie Gleason… and he played a hobo – a kind of guy who couldn’t speak. With a little girl, and the mother I think was a hooker or something. I remember being really moved by that character because he couldn’t communicate very well.”
“Whether or not that movie works, I don’t remember at all. I just remember as a kid seeing it and being affected by it and thinking there’s something about this inability to communicate and having to communicate with silences. So we had beautiful moments like that, with this little girl I found.”

  • George Clooney and Wife Amal Donating to Struggling Movie Theater Near Their House

    WENN

The ‘Gravity’ actor and his activist wife Amal Clooney have helped a struggling local theatre to survive ongoing crisis amid the never-ending coronavirus pandemic.
    Oct 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – George and Amal Clooney have helped save their struggling local theatre after the venue was shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The “Gravity” star and his barrister wife donated towards The Mill at Sonning Theatre, which is located close by their lavish mansion in Berkshire, England, after the Covid-19 pandemic forced the venue to close.
“The Mill at Sonning is to re-open its theatre on 30 October and announces all its in-house theatre productions for 2021,” reads a statement on The Mill’s Facebook page.

“The auditorium is to be named in honour of legendary playwright Ray Cooney for his incredible support for the venue during lockdown,” it adds. “After nine months in lockdown, The Mill at Sonning, the UK’s only dinner theatre, is to re-open its theatre on 30 October with a winter season of comedy, magic, cabarets and plays.”
Officials, including Artistic Director Sally Hughes, go on to thank “fundraising and donations from Mill Angel supporters and Hollywood star George Clooney and his wife Amal, who are near neighbours and regular attenders (and) have been a lifeline to ensure the venue’s survival.”
The Mill will reopen with a reduced capacity of 70 customers for dinner and show, due to the U.K.’s social distancing regulations. The winter 2020 programme features an array of comedy and magic shows, along with cabarets and plays.
Meanwhile, in the United States, Hollywood movie moguls like Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, James Cameron, Christopher Nolan, Judd Apatow, Jon Chu, Sofia Coppola, Alfonso Cuaron, Michael Bay, and Patty Jenkins recently signed an open letter pleading with the congress to help bail out cinemas hit by the crisis.

Joaquin Phoenix Eyed to Replace George Clooney as Batman after 1997 Movie Flop

    WENN

The Joker actor is revealed to be Darren Aronofsky’s favorite contender to play the Caped Crusader after Clooney’s portrayal in ‘Batman & Robin’ garnered lukewarm reception.
    Apr 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Joaquin Phoenix was once director Darren Aronofsky’s first choice to play Batman.
The filmmaker reveals he wanted to reinvent the Caped Crusader after George Clooney’s turn as the famed character in movie flop “Batman & Robin” – and suggested Phoenix as his leading man.
“The studio wanted Freddie Prinze Jr. and I wanted Joaquin Phoenix…,” Aronofsky tells Empire of his plans for “Batman: Year One”. “It was a different time. The Batman I wrote was definitely a way different type of take than they ended up making.”
“The Batman that was out before me was Batman & Robin, the famous one with the nipples on the Batsuit, so I was really trying to undermine that, and reinvent it. That’s where my head went.”
The project never made it into production and the role of Batman has since been played by Christian Bale in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” trilogy and Ben Affleck. Robert Pattinson will be taking on the role for Matt Reeves’ upcoming film, “The Batman”.
Ironically, Phoenix picked up an Oscar for his turn as Batman’s nemesis The Joker in director Todd Phillips’ 2019 hit “Joker”.
