  • Gloria Estefan Explains Importance of Talking About Daughter's Coming Out Story in New Show

    Facebook Watch

The ‘Turn The Beat Around’ hitmaker will co-host ‘Red Table Talk: The Estefans’, a spin-off from Jada Pinkett Smith’s Facebook Watch series, with singer daughter Emily Estefan and her niece Lili.
    Oct 7, 2020
AceShowbiz – Gloria Estefan wants to break taboos in the Latin community with her new talk show, and she’s starting with her daughter’s coming out story in an upcoming episode.
The superstar is about to launch “Red Table Talk: The Estefans”, a spin-off from Jada Pinkett Smith’s Facebook Watch series, which she will co-host with singer Emily Estefan and her niece Lili Estefan. And she hopes to help her community by tackling issues not often talked about – like sexuality.
“Emily came out three years ago,” Gloria told “The Talk” on Tuesday, October 6, “and no one knows because we really never had the reason or opportunity to talk about how we dealt with it as a family.”
“It was important for her (Emily) to talk about it (on the new show) and it was important for us to put it on the table. We share so much of our personal lives and private lives through (social media) that we wanted to use it in a good way, a healing way.”

The “Turn The Beat Around” hitmaker notes the chat in question “got a little heated here and there” and her niece even had to be “kind of the referee”.
“It’s important,” she adds, “because some people are going through these types of things. We hope to at least get it out there and speak about it, especially in the Latin community. So many things are taboo – like everything is taboo. My mother never even kissed my father ’til they were married by the church.”
“Red Table Talk: The Estefans” launches on Wednesday, October 7.

  • Gloria Estefan Uses 'Safe Word' for Fear of Revealing Too Much in Upcoming Family Talk Show

    WENN

The ‘Conga’ hitmaker and her family have come up with a ‘safe word’ for their upcoming ‘Red Table Talk’ series to stop a conversation if it gets too close for comfort.
    Aug 24, 2020
AceShowbiz – Gloria Estefan, her daughter, and niece have agreed on a safe word to stop them revealing too much on their new Facebook Watch series.
The three women will front the new family talk show – a spin-off from Jada Pinkett Smith’s “Red Table Talk” hit – and Gloria reveals they had to come up with a word or phrase they could use to end a conversation if it gets too close for comfort.
The pop superstar says, “There’s a secret word – ‘pineapple’ – and we’re supposed to shut up, because when we start talking, we start talking. We wanna leave it natural and fresh… so we’ve chosen the themes… and I don’t think we’ve said, ‘No, we’re not gonna go there!’ We just talk for two hours and then the editors are the poor things that have to synthesise this down to a length that people can watch.”
“We’re gonna be free and talk about everything… We’re gonna be raw, just like Jada.”
The first eight episodes of “Red Table Talk: The Estefans”, which will feature Gloria’s daughter Emily and her niece Lili, will debut later this year.
