Danielle Haim Struggles to Write New Music Amid Covid-19 Pandemic

The guitarist and drummer of Haim opens up about her struggles with lack of inspiration as she tried to write new songs amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

    Dec 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Danielle Haim has struggled to write music amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The 31-year-old guitarist and drummer, who is in the band Haim with her sisters Este and Alana, admitted the uncertainty of 2020, including the ongoing pandemic, has left her suffering with a lack of inspiration and she has found it hard to pen new music.

She told The Guardian newspaper, “I rallied, I tried to write music the last couple of months, but it’s so difficult for me to do it, I don’t know what’s going on. For my sisters and I, it is just about showing up and willing that something happens, but it’s been hard. I feel privileged not having children – I’m trying to imagine what it would have been like if I had kids.”
Danielle also spoke about how the pandemic affected Haim’s plans to tour their latest album, calling it a “bummer.”
She said, “We made our album in a room, playing together, more than we’ve done on any other album we’ve put out. We had all these ideas about how we were going to tour it, we booked a whole tour and festivals – we were going to do a whole deli tour and the night Tom Hanks came out with the news that he had coronavirus, we were in (Washington) D.C. in a small deli performing a stripped-down set. It was wild. So just releasing something and not having that dialectical experience with a crowd about this music we’ve been working on for a year, that was a bummer.”

Johnson kicked off the special by performing “Where Do the Children Play?”, confessing it was an “honour” to play a track by one of his “all-time favourites.”
He was followed by the HAIM sisters, who offered their rendition of “Hard Headed Woman”.

“It’s great to see and hear these covers of my songs given new life,” Yusuf said of CatSong in a statement. “There’s no better honor for a songwriter than to have his songs performed by talented musicians with such love and sincerity. Thank you.”
The singer, who adopted the name Yusuf Islam after converting to Islam in 1977, also celebrated the 50th anniversary of his album “Mona Bone Jakon” by releasing a previously-unreleased demo recording of “Maybe You’re Right”. The studio demo offers impressively clean audio of Stevens in the studio with just his acoustic guitar and vocals to perform the song in one take.
The “Mona Bone Jakon” 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Box Set was released on December 4. It includes newly-remastered audio recordings from the original album on CD and Blu-Ray discs, along with unreleased demos, live recordings, video footage, a 98-page hardback book and unique memorabilia.

At four is Lewis Capaldi’s “Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent”, with Harry Styles’ “Fine Line” completing the top five.

  • Haim Tackles Sexism on New Album 'Women in Music'

    Instagram

The all-female music trio Este, Danielle, and Alana recount their experience with sexism and explains the meaning behind the title and artwork of their new studio album.
    Jun 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Haim are opening up on the gender disparity they’ve encountered in the music industry on their new album.
The all-female sibling trio, Este, Danielle, and Alana, are one of the hottest Los Angeles pop rock outfits, but in an interview with Variety they revealed, up until recently, interviewers were fixated on their gender.
Admitting that they would constantly be asked, “What it’s like to be…?” in “every single interview,” Danielle said, “We haven’t gotten asked the question this record cycle, which is also another reason why we wanted to call the album Women in Music. So it’s actually great.”
The new record, titled “Women in Music Pt. III”, appears to tackle sexism from the outset, with the cover art portraying “The Wire” hitmakers behind the counter at their beloved Canter’s Deli on Fairfax, posing in front of a sea of sausages.

Danielle, the group’s main songwriter and lead vocalist, confessed the title is “mostly funny. But we also thought, ‘Why don’t we just put it into our music and tell our fans some of the experiences that we’ve had?’ ”
One particular verse on the record details the hassles and preconceptions women face going into guitar shops, with Danielle explaining, “Growing up, being young women musicians, going into the conglomerate shops, it was always just a really s**tty experience. We were met with the obvious, ‘Oh, are you buying something for your boyfriend?’ or, ‘Oh, here’s a great starter, like, Squire.’ ”
However, despite scoring two U.S. top 10 albums, Este added, “Honestly, even now, going into that special store which shall not be named, we get the same thing, except we’re old enough to just give it an eye roll.”
“Women in Music Pt. III” is released June 26, 2020.

HAIM Push Back New Album Release to Summer

    WENN/Sheri Determan

Blaming the changing nature of travel policies and quarantines across the world due to coronavirus, the ‘If I Could Change Your Mind’ trio announce the launch delay for ‘Women in Music Pt. III’.
    Mar 24, 2020
AceShowbiz – Singing siblings HAIM are pressing pause on plans to launch their new album until the summer.
The “If I Could Change Your Mind” hitmakers had been due to drop “Women in Music Pt. III” on 24 April, but the trio has since decided now is not the time to debut its third studio project as people around the world continue to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.
“Due to everything that is going on with covid-19 and the changing nature of travel policies and quarantines across the world, we’ve decided it is best to postpone the release of women in music pt. iii, to later this summer,” reads a statement posted on Twitter.
“This wasn’t an easy decision for us at all…We can’t wait to reschedule everything we had in mind for you all and we can’t wait to see all of you on the road when it’s 100 per cent safe to do so. in the meantime, we are gonna be dropping some new tunes.”
Meanwhile, the spread of the coronavirus has forced rockers Metallica to rework their upcoming tour plans, delaying their South American trek, scheduled for April, until December, and announcing the cancellation of a trio of U.S.-based festivals in May – North Carolina’s Epicenter, Welcome to Rockville in Florida, and Ohio’s Sonic Temple – which the musicians had been due to headline.

However, James Hetfield and his bandmates are hoping to be back onstage in September, when they have signed up to kick off the Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky.
Promising to keep fans updated on their live shows once the pandemic passes, the Metallica members state: “We’ll sign off for now by sending you our love during these trying times. Here’s to looking back on this period soon with renewed appreciation for all the amazing times together with our extended Metallica family around the world.”
“For now, go hang with your significant others, kids, pets, parents… whomever you have in your space. Create your playlists, watch some movies, try some old-fashioned board games and most importantly, stay safe. We’ll keep in touch!”

Country legend Willie Nelson has also stalled the release of his new album, “First Rose of Spring”.
The singer’s 70th solo studio album was originally due to be released on 24 April, but it will now drop on 3 July.
