  • Emmy Awards 2020: Jimmy Kimmel Teases Consequence Winners With Extended Speech Will Face

    Instagram

Days before he puts on his hosting suit for the prestigious show, the funnyman opens up to ‘Good Morning America’ about what he expects to see and what can be expected from the virtual broadcast.
    Sep 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Emmy Awards host Jimmy Kimmel can’t wait to watch Sunday night’s (September 20) winners accept their awards in their own homes, surrounded by excited family and friends.
The comedian doesn’t have high hopes for the virtual broadcast as a whole, but he insists there’s one element of the show he is looking forward to.
“People are gonna win an Emmy in their house with their, hopefully, family and maybe their parents and maybe a couple of people that they trust, and I hope it will be exciting to see that excitement…,” he tells “Good Morning America”.
“It’s one thing when your co-producer is standing next to you, clapping, or one of your co-stars, and it’s another thing when it’s your nine-year-old daughter.”
Kimmel reveals there will be a few “special guests” with him at the Staples Center in Los Angeles for the live broadcast, but the venue will be empty, due to California’s strict COVID-19 health and safety guidelines.

“There will be no friends, no family…,” he adds. “I would guess there won’t be more than 30 people in the whole Staples Center. We’re doing this as safely as we possibly can, because as we know there’s no one more important than celebrities.”

Reports suggest his guests will include Mindy Kaling and Ken Jeong.
Meanwhile, Kimmel is also urging 2020 Emmy winners not to get carried away and extend their acceptance speeches.
“Some people are gonna go on and on and on and I don’t know what we’ll do if they go on too long,” he says. “I suppose I could just say, ‘Oh, we lost ’em!’ and hit a button and that’s the end of it. Maybe that is what we’ll do.”

Jimmy Kimmel Apologizes for Blackface Sketch, Insists Hiatus Has Nothing to Do With Controversy

    WENN

The ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ host calls the sketch ’embarrassing’ but he refuses to be ‘bullied into silence by those who feign outrage to advance their oppressive and genuinely racist agendas.’
    Jun 24, 2020
AceShowbiz – Jimmy Kimmel has followed fellow U.S. late-night host Jimmy Fallon’s lead and apologised for a blackface TV skit.
The comedian impersonated black basketball star Karl Malone on Comedy Central’s “The Man Show”, which aired from 1999 to 2003.
The “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host admitted he had been “reluctant” to address the sketch, explaining, “I knew doing so would be celebrated as a victory by those who equate apologies with weakness and cheer for leaders who use prejudice to divide us.”
“That delay was a mistake,” Kimmel added in a statement. “There is nothing more important to me than your respect, and I apologize to those who were genuinely hurt or offended by the makeup I wore or the words I spoke.”
The funnyman went on to explain he often impersonated Malone on TV and radio, but “never considered that this might be seen as anything other than an imitation of a fellow human being, one that had no more to do with Karl’s skin color than it did his bulging muscles and bald head.”
Kimmel continues, “I’ve done dozens of impressions of famous people, including Snoop Dogg, Oprah, Eminem… and many others. In each case, I thought of them as impersonations of celebrities and nothing more. Looking back, many of these sketches are embarrassing, and it is frustrating that these thoughtless moments have become a weapon used by some to diminish my criticisms of social and other injustices.”
“I believe that I have evolved and matured over the last twenty-plus years, and I hope that is evident to anyone who watches my show. I know that this will not be the last I hear of this and that it will be used again to try to quiet me. I love this country too much to allow that. I won’t be bullied into silence by those who feign outrage to advance their oppressive and genuinely racist agendas.”
Kimmel’s apology comes after he announced plans to take the summer off to spend “even more time with my family.” He insists his vacation has nothing to do with the blackface drama, “My summer vacation has been planned for more than a year and includes the next two summers off as well. I will be back to work in September. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to explain and to those I’ve disappointed, I am sorry.”
“The Tonight Show” host Fallon previously apologised for a blackface sketch on “Saturday Night Live” 20 years ago, in which he impersonated comedian Chris Rock.

Jimmy Kimmel Set to Host Emmy Awards for Third Time

The ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ host is officially announced to return as an emcee for the upcoming 72nd annual Emmy Awards, marking the third time he hosts the event.
    Jun 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Comedian and late night TV host Jimmy Kimmel is set to return as host of the 72nd Emmy Awards.
The “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host will also executive produce the annual prizegiving – his third outing as emcee for the ceremony.
It is still unclear whether or not the event, which is set for September 20, will be held virtually or in person due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“I don’t know where we will do this or how we will do this or even why we are doing this, but we are doing it and I am hosting it,” said Kimmel in a statement.
“We know Jimmy Kimmel will deliver a uniquely entertaining, funny and moving Primetime Emmys show,” said Karey Burke, president of ABC Entertainment, the network set to broadcast the awards. “He’s a true master of ceremonies who reveres this industry and its people; and just as Jimmy has done with his own show over the past few months, he will tackle this momentous event with heart and humor, and bring some much-needed joy and optimism to our television colleagues and viewers at home.”
The nominations for the 2020 Emmy Awards will be announced on July 28, 2020.

Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert Clap Back at President Trump for Mocking Late-Night TV Ratings

    WENN

The two late-night show hosts respond to Donald Trump’s ridicule, saying the president should focus on the coronavirus pandemic instead of television ratings.
    May 7, 2020
AceShowbiz – Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert have slammed U.S. President Donald Trump for focusing on their show’s ratings when he should be helping Americans during the Covid-19 pandemic.
America’s Twitter-loving leader took to the social media platform on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 to praise Fox News host Greg Gutfeld for drawing in more viewers than late night hosts Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, and Kimmel, who he branded a “wacko.”
“Wow! Congratulations to Greg Gutfeld, a one time Trump Hater who has come all the way home,” he tweeted. “His Ratings easily beat no talent Stephen Colbert, nice guy Jimmy Fallon, and wacko ‘last placer’ Jimmy Kimmel. Greg built his show from scratch, and did a great job in doing so.”
Kimmel responded to the President’s tweet with a video slamming the billionaire politician for focusing on TV ratings at a time when tens of thousands of Americans have died of Covid-19
“This is what it feels like when the ‘President’ of the United States attacks you personally,” he captioned the clip, before denouncing America’s leader as failing to focus on helping citizens get through the crisis.

“I hope he wasn’t talking about me,” the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host joked, before continuing, “I think this was another typo situation. I think what he meant to tweet was, ‘I am completely devastated by the loss of life caused by this insidious virus. My thoughts are with the families of those who have passed. I pledge to spend every waking moment working to make sure our medical workers have the support they need and every American has access to tests. PS – congrats to Greg Gutfeld.’ ”

Colbert also shot back by referencing comments from Trump questioning how he got his job by mocking the President’s appointment of his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, as a key adviser and saying in his own video, “It’s nice to know that Trump is staying laser-focused on the ball during a crisis.”
