  • Jon Bon Jovi Pays Tribute to Friends and Neighbors Who Died of Covid-19 on New Album

The Bon Jovi frontman pays homage to lives lost to the deadly virus on his upcoming studio album as he talks about his friends and neighbors who passed away from the coronavirus.
    Oct 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – Jon Bon Jovi has lost friends and neighbours to coronavirus.
The “Livin’ on a Prayer” hitmaker’s 18-year-old son, Jacob, and bandmates David Bryan and Everett Bradley survived the virus after testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this year (20), but other people in the rocker’s life haven’t been as lucky.
“The virus was all around us,” Bon Jovi tells the Daily Mail. “We were in the bullseye in New York and New Jersey, and I lost friends and neighbours. A dear friend of mine lost his mum. The guy that sold me this apartment beat cancer but lost his life to COVID-19.”
The pandemic also impacted Bon Jovi’s music plans – a planned summer tour was scrapped to allow ticket holders to use the refund cash to buy groceries.
“Given these difficult times, we have made the decision to cancel the tour entirely,” a statement read. “This will enable ticket holders to get refunds to help pay their bills or buy groceries. These are trying times. You’ve always been there for us and we’ll always be there for you. We look forward to seeing everyone again on tour when we can all safely be together.”

Meanwhile, the release of the group’s new album, “2020”, was delayed, allowing Bon Jovi to write and record new songs that tackled issues fans were facing during the pandemic.
In an interview with “Good Morning America” on Friday (02Oct20) – the new release date – the rocker explained one new song, “Do What You Can”, was inspired by a photo his wife Dorothea took of him washing dishes at one of his JBJ Soul Kitchen restaurants, which provides free meals for the homeless.
“Because of the crisis and the shutdown, no restaurants remained open, but we remained open,” he said. “Dorothea snapped that picture of me for the social media and she asked me for a caption… and what I said was, ‘If you can’t do what you do… do what you can!’ ”
“The next day when I woke up, I thought, ‘Well, that’s a big ol’ Bon Jovi song title,’ so I went in my little music room and I wrote the song.”
The track was one of two last-minute additions to the new album – “American Reckoning” is an acoustic song dealing with the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minnesota police officers in May (20).

  • Jon Bon Jovi Likens 'Do What You Can' Video Filming Amid COVID-19 to Being in 'Weird Twilight Zone'

    Instagram

The Bon Jovi frontman recalls what crossed through his mind when shooting the promo for his new song about the coronavirus pandemic in Manhattan’s Times Square during lockdown.
    Oct 1, 2020
AceShowbiz – Jon Bon Jovi was taken aback by how “surreal” it was filming his new music video on the streets of New York City during the COVID-19 lockdown.
The Bon Jovi frontman filmed the promo for his new track “Do What You Can”, a song about the coronavirus pandemic, in Manhattan’s Times Square and was taken aback by what it was like to be there on his own – when he had played for hundreds of thousands before.
“It was really surreal,” he tells Australian TV show “The Project”. “I had left the city as well. Our family had gone out to (New) Jersey and I didn’t want to come back here for any reason – but obviously for the video it made sense.”
“I was in Times Square shooting the first shot and it was the first shot of the day and there’s no one there. I was singing because the band couldn’t come in because you couldn’t fly and I’m standing there alone.”

The “Livin’ On A Prayer” rocker went on to reminisce about how it contrasted with the last time he had been in Times Square after a moment of national tragedy, performing a 2002 concert to kick off the first full NFL season after the 9/11 terrorist attacks the previous year.
“In Times Square, where I’m now singing to nobody. I was reminiscing when the NFL asked us to play Times Square and allowed half a million people to come and watch us…Now you’re singing a song 20 years later after another tragedy, alone. That was like a weird Twilight zone.”
Bon Jovi release their new album, 2020, on October 2.

Prince Harry Joins Jon Bon Jovi at Abbey Road Studios to Record Charity Single

    Instagram

A video shared on the Sussex Royal Instagram account shows the Bon Jovi frontman strumming his guitar after coaching the Duke of Sussex in a recording booth with headphones on.
    Feb 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Prince Harry and Jon Bon Jovi joined forces at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London to record a charity single on Friday, February 28.
The rocker and the royal are teaming up with the Invictus Games Choir to record a version of Bon Jovi’s veteran-inspired track “Unbroken” for the Invictus sporting tournament Harry founded for injured ex-soldiers.
After meeting on the steps of the building, the pair went to Abbey Road’s studio two, where The Beatles recorded many of their hits in the 1960s. But first they also recreated the famous cover to The Fab Four’s “Abbey Road” album by posing while walking across the iconic level crossing outside the studio.
A video shared on Harry’s Sussex Royal Instagram account showed the “Always” hitmaker coaching him in a recording booth with headphones on, with the musician strumming a guitar and telling the singing novice it would be “really easy” and to “breathe”.

Footage posted on Twitter by Daily Mirror royal correspondent Russell Myers also showed the pair discussing the contribution of the choir, a group made up of injured ex-service personnel originally formed for the 2016 edition of the games, to the record.
Bon Jovi said that he found their “desire to serve” and stories “touching” and that they “became a rock band” when singing “Unbroken”.
Both of the rock star’s parents served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and he recorded “Unbroken” for the 2019 documentary film “To Be of Service”, which focused on the stories of ex-soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
The new charity version of “Unbroken” featuring Harry will debut next month, ahead of the games, which will take place in The Hague in the Netherlands in May. Proceeds from the single will go to the Invictus Games Foundation.
