Jim Henson Biopic Developed by Disney, KISS Movie Picked Up by Netflix

    Twitter/WENN/FayesVision

The Mouse House is developing a movie about the life and career of ‘The Muppets’ creator while Netflix secures a true-story film about Gene Simmons and his bandmates.

    Apr 23, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
A biopic based on the life of “The Muppets” creator Jim Henson is in the works.

Writer Michael Mitnik has been tapped by Disney and The Henson company to pen a movie about the star which, according to Deadline, will focus “Henson’s journey to convince broadcasters that The Muppets was a great idea.”

Henson began creating Muppets in the 1950’s and, after launching them as characters in commercials, they eventually appeared their own specials and a syndicated variety show.

The concept later evolved to the puppets teaching children on “Sesame Street”, and the characters even briefly appeared in their own sketch series on “Saturday Night Live”.

After success with “The Muppet Show”, Henson moved on to various TV and movie efforts. He died in 1990 at the age of 53.

The new movie, which is as yet untitled, will be produced by Henson’s daughter Lisa.

Meanwhile, Netflix bosses have all but signed a deal for the upcoming KISS biopic “Shout It Out Loud”.

According to Deadline, the movie will focus on the story of Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley meeting in Queens in New York and forming the iconic “Rock and Roll All Nite” band with Ace Frehley and Peter Criss.

Joachim Ronning is on to direct and the script comes from Ole Sanders, who is working from an earlier draft penned by William Blake Herron.

Mark Canton’s Atmosphere Entertainment and Universal Music Group will co-produce the flick.

KISS still have the rest of their farewell run, the End of the Road World Tour to complete, which was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Since forming in 1973, the “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” rockers have sold more than 75 million records worldwide.

The four original members were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

KISS Biopic Close to Landing on Netflix After Bidding War

    WENN/FayesVision

The project titled ‘Shout It Out Loud’ has ‘Kon-Tiki’ helmer Joachim Ronning on board as director and is billed to do for the rock band what ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ did for Queen.

    Apr 22, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
KISS is about to get its own movie. Nearly four decades since its formation, the iconic rock band’s life and history are going to be adapted for the big screen through a project called “Shout It Out Loud”, taken from the group’s hit song off their 1976 album “Destroyer”.

According to Deadline, the biopic is close to landing on Netflix, with the streaming giant currently tying up a deal after a bidding war. Joachim Ronning, whose directing credits include “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”, “Kon-Tiki” and “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil”, is set to take the helming duty.

The band’s original members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley will closely observe the project and serve as executive producers. The pic will be produced by Mark Canton through his Atmosphere Entertainment, Leigh Ann Burton through Opus 7, Courtney Solomon, David Blackman and Jody Gerson through Universal Music Group, as well as Doc McGhee through his McGee Entertainment. Atmosphere’s Dorothy Canton and David Hopwood will additionally executive produce it.

The script is written by Ole Sanders based on an earlier draft done by William Blake Herron. Aspiring to do for KISS what “Bohemian Rhapsody” did for Queen, the project will chronicle the band’s journey from Simmons and Stanley’s friendship when they were two misfit kids from Queens to the formation of the band, with them enlisting guitarist Ace Frehley and drummer Peter Criss.

The movie will also capture how they’re trying “to set themselves apart from the ‘hair’ bands of the day, they accented their power chords and pyrotechnics with makeup. At heart, their formative story is in the vein of ‘The Commitments’, if that Irish soul band employed makeup and spiked heels.”

The project is reportedly put on a fast track, though no official announcement has been made because the deal is not completed. Once the deal is sealed, it is expected that details of the movie, such as cast members, will be announced in no time.

Paul Stanley Has No Plan to Make New Music With KISS

    Instagram

The Soul Station star is not keen to reunite with his bandmates in studio and record new music as he is currently focusing his energy on completing his side project.

    Mar 23, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Paul Stanley doesn’t “really see a reason” for KISS to record any new music.

The rockers haven’t dropped any new material since their 2012 record “Monster”, but have been very quiet since then. And in an interview with USA Today, Stanley admitted that there are no plans for the bandmates to reunite, and he’s more concerned about focusing on the debut album from his side project Soul Station.

Asked if any more KISS music is in the pipeline, Stanley replied, “I don’t really see a reason for it, to be quite honest. For the most part, when classic bands put out new albums, they’re looked at and listened to and thrown away because they don’t have the gravitas, they don’t have the age that comes with something being a time capsule or being attached to a certain period of your life.”

“I’m not alone in that. When you see any classic bands on TV or if there’s a concert video, turn off the sound and I’ll tell you every time they’re playing a new song because the audience sits down. So it’s odd to me that people always want you to do a new album, but then they go, ‘That’s great. Now play your hits.’ So honestly, at this point, there isn’t a real reward in it. There’s much more of a reward in changing lanes – I’m still going forward.”

He concluded, “But in terms of recording more KISS material, I kind of go, ‘Why?’ I thought Modern Day Delilah or Hell or Hallelujah were as good as anything I’ve written and as good as anything we recorded, but understandably, it’s like new wine. It just hasn’t aged. So I’d rather not try to roll a stone up the hill.”

And Stanley isn’t the only one feeling like that as his bandmate Gene Simmons recently revealed he is not “incentivized” to release any new KISS music.

KISS Reveal Plan to Have Concert in the 'Coldest Place on Earth' for 2021 Farewell Tour

    WENN

Gene Simmons and his bandmates are expected to stop by the ‘coldest place on the earth’ during their final tour which is scheduled to kick off next year following delay due to pandemic.

    Dec 6, 2020
AceShowbiz – KISS will play “the coldest place on the earth” as part of their 2021 farewell tour.
Gene Simmons and co were due to hit the road this summer to continue the extensive last jaunt around the globe.
However, because of the coronavirus pandemic, the rockers are postponing their European shows until June and July 2021, with the 17-date run now due to kick off on 2 June (20) in Antwerp, Belgium.
And Gene, 71, has revealed one of the gigs out of the 150 they are yet to complete will require them to wear their thermals.
Speaking on Los Angeles radio station 95.5 KLOS, the “Heaven’s On Fire” rocker said, “We’ve already booked Europe outdoors. Most of the shows have already sold out. We start in summer.”

“The vaccines are gonna be out there for everybody, oh, by January, February, March at the latest, but we’re gonna be out there a few months after that. And we’ve literally got 150 cities booked.”
He continued, “We’re gonna continue this tour, which we stopped after doing 110 cities. We’ve got another 150 cities to go, and who knows how long, but some of the later ones are gonna be jawdropping.”
“You can’t imagine what we’ve got planned – like, beyond … I said, ‘No. We can really do that?’ They said, ‘Yup. Yup.’ The political people said we can play there. And so there’s gonna be stuff that’s just gonna make you go, ‘That’s the coolest.’ ”
Speaking about the icy location, Gene added, “There’s one place that’s the coldest place on earth.”
“And if you can imagine us playing there with even larger pyro than you’ve ever seen, ’cause there’s nothing around there. But that’s all I’ll say about it.”
In the meantime, the “Rock and Roll All Nite” group have a livestream set planned for New Year’s Eve, which will take place at the Atlantis, The Palm resort in Dubai attended by an in-person audience of between 2,000 and 3,000 people – all limited to hotel guests, who will undergo coronavirus testing and other health and safety protocols before gaining access.

KISS to Livestream Biggest New Year's Eve Concert From Dubai

    WENN/FayesVision

‘KISS 2020 Goodbye’ will take place at the Atlantis, The Palm resort in the United Arab Emirates with an in-person audience expected to be between 2,000 and 3,000 people.

    Nov 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – Kiss are preparing to “rock the heavens” to usher in 2021 with a big New Year’s Eve (December 31) bash livestreamed from the United Arab Emirates.
The stars plan to Rock And Roll All Nite for the huge gig, which will take place at the Atlantis, The Palm resort in Dubai, with an in-person audience expected to be between 2,000 and 3,000 people – all limited to hotel guests, who will undergo coronavirus testing and other health and safety protocols before gaining access.
Kiss are promoting the event as their “biggest concert ever,” as it will also be filmed with more than 50 cameras, and beamed out to fans worldwide, who will also be treated to a massive fireworks show which the band hopes will include “numerous world record attempts for largest ever pyro display.”
“After nine months of this pandemic darkness the world may finally be seeing light of day,” the bandmates share in a statement.
“On New Year’s Eve, Kiss will rock the heavens, shake the earth and blaze the way out of 2020 with the largest and most bombastic celebration in our and anyone else’s history. We all need it. We all deserve it. Here’s to 2021.”

The rockers had been in the midst of their farewell tour when the COVID-19 crisis shut the live entertainment industry down earlier this year, and frontman Paul Stanley admits they were searching for the biggest, most extravagant way to return to the stage – and it wasn’t going to be in Los Angeles.
“Frankly, I wasn’t interested in doing a stream on the level of Live at the Troubadour in L.A.,” he tells Rolling Stone. “Not that those aren’t good, but they aren’t Kiss.”
“Either we do this right, or we don’t do it. For us, size matters. We don’t have to reinvent the wheel; we invented it and it runs real well. We’re just making sure it’s on a scale and a size that does justice not only to the situation we’re in, but that it makes the people watching at home feel like they’re a part of it.”
Bassist Gene Simmons adds, “We play big. There’s not a lot of subtlety in what we do. It’s like the Fourth of July. You don’t want chaos. You can have the biggest, but it won’t be the baddest because just random explosions everywhere and 300-foot fireballs going off, you can’t tap your foot to that or sing along. You want to have something that has coordination. So everything that we’re naturally doing onstage is going to be amplified – 10-to-100-fold bigger, oh my God.”
“The best way to shut everybody up and get everybody to enjoy life right now is to make a big resounding noise and shake the heavens with some pyro.”
The end-of-year extravaganza, titled “KISS 2020 Goodbye”, will feature a free pre-show livestream, and although the festivities will be timed to midnight in Dubai, virtual ticketholders will be allowed to replay the show to count down to their own celebrations.

  • Dee Snider Slams Kiss for Letting Replacement Members Wear Signature Makeup

    WENN

The Twisted Sister star says Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons should have retired the look originated by Ace Frehley and Peter Criss when they kicked them out of the group.
    Aug 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Twisted Sister star Dee Snider has taken aim at Kiss rockers Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons for letting replacement members of the band use the signature stage make-up worn by Ace Frehley and Peter Criss.
Snider, who also donned make-up for his group’s videos and shows, insists the Kiss founders should have retired the look when they kicked Criss and Frehley out of the band.
“I hate what Kiss is doing with the guys with Ace and Peter’s make-up on,” the singer told the Appetite for Distortion podcast. “I’m not a fan.”
It’s not the first time Dee has attacked Simmons and Stanley over Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer’s stage make-up – he told Eddie Trunk in 2015, “I don’t see how people could accept this. Tommy Thayer? I’m sorry. It’s insulting. Not only did he play with a tribute band of Kiss, he’s imitating Ace in his entire act!”
Stanley responded by calling Snider a “wannabe,” who “desperately wants attention and to be taken seriously,” adding, “He’s obviously clueless to the fact that he and his whole band are a bunch of buffoons.”
