  • Charlize Theron's Stunt Double Reveals the 'Intense' Feud Between Her and Tom Hardy

    WENN

Dayna Grant claims she knew ‘from the get-go’ that things would be uncomfortable as there was tension between the two ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ stars ‘when we were doing the fight choreography.’
    Jul 25, 2020
AceShowbiz – Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy were infamously feuding during the filming of “Mad Max: Fury Road”. Now, Dayna Grant, who was Charlize’s stunt double in the movie, detailed the “intense” work environment in a new interview with Metro.
“It was really hard. It was hard because it was obviously I had to spend time with both of them and both of them didn’t want to be together,” Dayna said of the set atmosphere of the 2015 flick. “Usually Charlize would come in and they’d do scenes together, but they didn’t want to do scenes together, so I was put in her spot to always be with Tom. Tom’s double was always put with Charlize, so we actually worked with the opposite characters.”
Dayna claimed that she knew “from the get-go” that things would be uncomfortable. “We knew right from the get-go. We knew from the beginning that it was happening when we were doing the fight choreography… there was tension then,” she explained. “So we were told what was going on.”
She went on to say that everyone was told to try to make it work despite the beef between the two actors. “And we were just told to try and make it work as much as possible, which was challenging because usually you’re all in one big group and working together whereas we were kind of separated,” Dayana said.
Back in May, the cast of Charlize opened up to NY Times that the tension stemmed from their frustration over not fully understanding the film that was being made. “In retrospect, I didn’t have enough empathy to really, truly understand what [Tom] must have felt like to step into Mel Gibson’s shoes,” Charlize shared.
“That is frightening! And I think because of my own fear, we were putting up walls to protect ourselves instead of saying to each other, ‘This is scary for you, and it’s scary for me, too. Let’s be nice to each other.’ In a weird way, we were functioning like our characters: Everything was about survival,” she added.

  • Charlize Theron on the Recasting of Furiosa for Prequel Film: It's a Tough One to Swallow

    Instagram

Filmmaker George Miller has abandoned plans to use computer-generated imagery to de-age the ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ actress, and eyed to cast Jodie Comer instead.
    Jul 7, 2020
AceShowbiz – Charlize Theron is disappointed she won’t get the opportunity to reprise her “Mad Max: Fury Road” character in a Furiosa prequel, confessing it’s “a tough one to swallow.”
Filmmaker George Miller had initially been expected to reteam with Theron for the spin-off project to explore the war captain’s back story, but he recently abandoned plans to use computer-generated imagery to de-age the Oscar winner onscreen for the entire movie.
Instead, 27-year-old “Killing Eve” star Jodie Comer has reportedly been eyed to take over the part of a younger Furiosa, and Theron, 44, admits the news is crushing.
“It’s a tough one to swallow,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “Listen, I fully respect George, if not more so in the aftermath of making that film (‘Fury Road’) with him. He’s a master, and I wish him nothing but the best.”
“(But) yeah, it’s a little heartbreaking, for sure. I really love that character, and I’m so grateful that I had a small part in creating her. She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly.”
“Obviously, I would love to see that story continue, and if he feels like he has to go about it this way, then I trust him in that manner.”
However, all is not lost for the “Monster” actress – her “Fury Road” co-star Tom Hardy previously revealed there are plans for him to star in another two “Mad Max” films, and Theron has stated she’d return for another sequel if Miller directs.

'Mad Max: Fury Road' Prequel Centering on Furiosa in the Works

    Warner Bros.

George Miller, director of the 2015 post-apocalyptic movie, confirms that he is moving ahead with a stand-alone movie about the action film’s heroine, who is made popular by Charlize Theron.
    May 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – A “Mad Max: Fury Road” sequel may never be happening, but it doesn’t mean that there won’t be another “Mad Max” movie from George Miller. Speaking with The New York Times about the production of the 2015 movie for a new oral history, the director confirms rumors that he has been working on a prequel centering on Furiosa.
However, those who are expecting Charlize Theron to return as the fan-favorite heroine have to be prepared to be disappointed a little. According to the site, the Oscar-winning actress will not return for the prequel, since the story will follow a young Furiosa, who will be played by an actress in her 20s.
The “Mad Max” prequel may be coming in the not-so-distant future as Miller says that he expects to begin making the Furiosa film after he completes drama film “Three Thousand Years of Longing”, starring Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba. The project was supposed to start shooting this spring, but it was delayed after coronavirus pandemic shut down all Hollywood productions.
“So after we finish it, and hopefully everything settles down with the pandemic, we’ll see what the world allows us to do with Furiosa,” Miller says.
Miller adds that he and co-writer Nick Lathouris were conceiving extensive backstory for the heroine as well as other characters during the years they were working on “Fury Road”. “It was purely a way of helping Charlize and explaining it to ourselves,” he shares.
They found Furiosa’s story so compelling that they decided to write a second screenplay even before a frame of “Fury Road” had been shot. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who played Splendid, one of the “Fury Road” wives, was lucky enough to have got a chance to read it. “I got to read it when I was cast,” she says, before gushing, “It’s genius. I’ve always wondered if that movie’s going to get made.”
After being locked in a legal battle for years, Miller says he has been given the go-ahead to proceed. On the decision to recast the role with a younger actress, the director explains, “For the longest time, I thought we could just use CG de-aging on Charlize, but I don’t think we’re nearly there yet.”

Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy Reveal What Really Caused 'Mad Max: Fury Road' On-Set Feud

    Warner Bros./Jasin Boland

The ‘Bombshell’ star admits she put up walls to protect herself because of her own fear, while the ‘Venom’ actor confesses he got overwhelmed by the pressures that came with his role.
    May 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy have finally opened up about reports of a feud between them on the set of “Mad Max: Fury Road”, admitting they both could have done more to be better castmates.
The two A-listers famously fell out while making the 2015 film, but they’ve never really addressed the drama behind the scenes – until now.
In a New York Times piece, both stars reveal on-set challenges and delays in production turned them against each other.
“In retrospect, I didn’t have enough empathy to really, truly understand what he must have felt like to step into (original “Mad Max” star) Mel Gibson’s shoes,” Charlize told the publication. “That is frightening!”.
“I think because of my own fear, we were putting up walls to protect ourselves instead of saying to each other, ‘This is scary for you, and it’s scary for me, too. Let’s be nice to each other.’ In a weird way, we were functioning like our characters: Everything was about survival.”
Theron also confessed she was “incredibly scared” because she had never made a film like Fury Road: “I think the hardest thing between me and (director) George (Miller) is that he had the movie in his head and I was so desperate to understand it.”
For his part, Hardy admits there was so much pressure on him he couldn’t think straight.
“I was in over my head in many ways,” he said. “The pressure on both of us was overwhelming at times. What she needed was a better, perhaps more experienced, partner in me. That’s something that can’t be faked. I’d like to think that now that I’m older and uglier, I could rise to that occasion.”
The former co-stars’ candour comes amid reports Miller is planning another “Mad Max” blockbuster and a possible spin-off, starring Anya Taylor-Joy as a younger version of Charlize’s character, Furiosa.
Meanwhile, Hardy has revealed there are plans for him to star in another two “Mad Max” films and Theron has stated she’d return for another film if Miller directs.
