Mike Tyson Accuses Hulu of Stealing Black Man's Story Over Unauthorized Biopic

    WENN

The former boxing champion calls out Hulu for airing his unauthorized biopic, slamming the network for ‘stealing’ his story and branding it cultural misappropriation.

    Feb 27, 2021
AceShowbiz – Mike Tyson has slammed Hulu’s unauthorised biopic about his life, calling it “cultural misappropriation.”
Following the streaming service’s announcement that they had green lit an eight-episode series titled “Iron Mike” about the champion boxer, Tyson took to Instagram to ask his fans to “#BoycottHulu.”
“Hulu’s announcement to do an unauthorised mini-series of the Tyson story without compensation, although unfortunate, isn’t surprising,” he wrote. “This announcement on the heels of social disparities in our country is a prime example of how Hulu’s corporate greed led to this tone-deaf cultural misappropriation of the Tyson life story.”
Insisting the series “couldn’t be more inappropriate or tone deaf,” Tyson pointed out the announcement of the show was also made during Black History Month – running in the U.S. in February (21) – which he said “confirms Hulu’s concern for dollars over respect for black story rights.”

“Hollywood needs to be more sensitive to black experiences especially after all that has transpired in 2020,” he continued. “The real Mike Tyson authorised story is in development and will be announced in coming days.”
In another post on Twitter, Tyson added, “Really Hulu?! Stealing a black mans story during Black History Month? #corporategreed #boycotthulu.”
Hulu has yet to respond to Tyson’s allegations.
Meanwhile, the boxing champion is hoping for a rematch with his former adversary and fellow former professional boxing champion Evander Holyfield.
“I think that (fight) might happen soon,” he said recently. “There’s going to be guys (I fight) before Evander, but Evander (is) something that we’re going to look at in the future (sic).”

  • Mike Tyson's Ex-Wife Sends Cease-and Desist Letter Ahead of His Biopic

    WENN

Robin Givens is concerned about how she might be portrayed in her former husband’s upcoming biopic so she sends a legal letter to block him from defaming her.
    Sep 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actress Robin Givens has delivered a knock-out blow to the producers of Jamie Foxx’s new Mike Tyson biopic, demanding she isn’t portrayed in a negative light.
Lawyers representing Givens sent Tyson and Foxx a cease-and-desist letter last month, according to Page Six, insisting the boxer, who is preparing for a comeback fight, “cease and desist from further defaming Ms. Givens.”
They also put the producers of the film and Tyson’s podcast on notice, insisting they “refrain from portraying Ms. Givens in a false, negative and defamatory light.”
Givens was married to Tyson in 1988 for eight months and the couple split acrimoniously.
Her lawyers felt they had to warn Foxx and his producers about portraying Givens in a poor light, adding, “She still finds herself fighting the abusive, demeaning and false accounts of their relationship by Mr. Tyson nearly 35 years later. It is time for Mr. Tyson to let this marriage be the relic of the past that it is.”
They claim Tyson’s comments about his ex gave them “good cause to be concerned,” but a representative for the boxing champ tells the outlet that his marriage to Givens and their divorce won’t be part of the film.
“As of now, Mr. Tyson’s attorneys have not received any cease and desist (letter), but there isn’t nor has there been any intention of including his relationship with her in his biopic. He wishes her well in all her endeavours,” the rep said.

AceShowbiz – Mike Tyson was drunk and high on cocaine throughout his entire cameo in “The Hangover”.
The former boxing champion almost didn’t make it to the set of the 2009 comedy film, because he was too intoxicated to remember his appearance in the movie, until he met Zach Galifianakis and other co-stars at a club in Las Vegas randomly the night before the shoot.
“I met the guys in a club, they were in the VIP section and I said, ‘This is where I normally sit, nobody’s normally here,’ ” he recalled during a recent interview with self-help guru Tony Robbins. “So I went in there, I’m checking these guys to see what they’re doing in my section. It was Zach, the other guy, and he said, ‘We’re going to be in a movie with you’ and I said, ‘Yeah? When?’ And he said, ‘Tomorrow.’ ”
“And I didn’t know as I was drinking and smoking back then, doing drugs so I didn’t know I was involved in the movie. So eventually I had to go and do the movie and it was a success.”

Jamie Foxx Reveals Muscular Transformation for Mike Tyson Biopic

    WENN

During an appearance on Mark Birnbaum’s Instagram Live series, the ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ actor confirms that the long-in-development project about the boxing legend is officially happening.
    Jun 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Jamie Foxx is gearing up to play Mike Tyson in an upcoming biopic, which has been long in development. Appearing on Mark Birnbaum’s Instagram Live series “Catching Up With Mark Birnbaum”, the 52-year-old actor offered a glimpse of his transformation for the role. He showed Birnbaum some photos of him going shirtless, revealing his bulked up physique.
“Every other day, I do 60 pull-ups, we do 60 dips, we do 100 push-ups,” Foxx said of his preparation for the movie. While his fitness routine is already changing the upper half of his body, the Academy Award-winning actor revealed that they would still need CGI and prosthetic to complete his transformation.

Jamie Foxx revealed his bulked up physique.
“I ain’t got no calf muscles, so we’re gonna have to get some prosthetics for that,” he shared. He added that he aims to be 216lbs when filming starts as he plays a younger version of the boxer, and then he will “balloon to 225, 230 which will look like 250 on screen.”
The biopic was first announced in 2014, but there wasn’t much progress. However, during the Live conversation, Foxx confirmed that the project is officially happening. “It’s a definitive yes,” he said when asked if the project is moving forward. On the long process to make the movie, he explained, “Look, doing biographies is a tough thing. Sometimes it takes 20 years to get them done. But we officially got the real ball rolling.”
The “Django Unchained” star also teased what to expect from the film, saying that it aims to depict the “different lives” of the boxing legend. “We want to show, everybody evolves,” he went on dishing. “I think when we lay the layers on Mike Tyson in this story, I think everybody from young and old will be able to understand this man’s journey,” he gushed.
“And then just the technology of how I’m gonna look, I guarantee you people will run up on me in the street, and ask for autographs, and think that I’m Mike,” he added, before showing his pitch-perfect Tyson impression.

It’s currently unknown who will direct the movie. Martin Scorsese was at one point reported to serve behind the lens, but he seems to be no longer on board now.

The trippy clip, which sees the ‘Lose Yourself’ hitmaker having a series of bizarre hallucinations, also features Dr. Dre and a tribute to late rapper Juice WRLD.
    Mar 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – Eminem gets in a lot of trouble in a new music video for “Godzilla”. Released on Monday, March 9, the promo for the latest track from his “Music to Be Murdered By” album presents the “Lose Yourself” hitmaker getting high and being on the recipient end of Mike Tyson’s punch.
The four-and-a half-minute video kicks off with the 47-year-old grabbing a bottle of whiskey in a supermarket while rapping, “I can swallow a bottle of alcohol and I’ll feel like Godzilla.” He soon finds himself hallucinating about being followed by human-size Godzillas, meeting various kinds of his clones and vomiting Lego bricks.
At one point, the promo directed by Lyrical Lemonade’s Cole Bennett sees Rihanna’s collaborator for “Love the Way You Lie” getting mistakenly knocked down by Tyson. When he wakes up in a hospital, his longtime collaborator Dr. Dre shows up in blue scrubs and white coat appearing ready to treat him.
The video wraps up with a tribute for Eminem’s late collaborator Juice WRLD. Along with a monochrome clip of the “Lucid Dreams” rapper and a promise that he will never be forgotten, an audio of him speaking could be heard in the background.
“I hope everybody havin’ a good day. I hope everybody accomplished something significant. Even if you didn’t accomplish anything significant, don’t be discouraged,” said the 21-year-old who died of an accidental drug overdose in early December 2019 after suffering a seizure and going into cardiac arrest at Chicago, Illinois’ Midway Airport.
“Just aim to accomplish something significant tomorrow and the next day and so on,” the Illinois rapper continued. ” If anybody is going through anything, I hope and I pray that you get through it. And just know that you do have the strength to get through whatever the f**k you going through, no matter what it is.”
