  • 'Mission: Impossible VII' and 'The Batman' Get Thumbs Up to Resume U.K. Production

    Paramount Pictures/Warner Bros.

British Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden has announced the quarantine exemption for small numbers of essential cast and crew to help the screen industries bounce back from COVID-19 pandemic.
    Jul 6, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tom Cruise’s new “Mission: Impossible” action blockbuster and Robert Pattinson’s highly-anticipated debut as Batman are among the projects given the green light to resume filming in the U.K.
Both “Mission: Impossible VII” and “The Batman” were in the midst of production in March when the coronavirus pandemic began, forcing a global industry shutdown.
Cruise was recently revealed to have flown to England in the hopes of getting back to work soon, and on Sunday, July 5, British Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden announced he had personally spoken to the Hollywood star, and would be allowing filming to continue once more as they would be exempt from quarantine travel restrictions, introduced to curb the spread of COVID-19.
As part of the exemption, cast and crewmembers must abide by rules to remain in a “bubble” environment, staying in and around the production area for the duration of the shoot.
“The world’s biggest blockbusters and high-end TV shows are made in Britain,” Dowden said at a press conference.
“Our creativity, expertise and highly successful tax reliefs for our screen industries means that we are an in-demand location that in turn delivers a great return for our economy. We want the industry to bounce back and exempting small numbers of essential cast and crew from quarantine is part of our continued commitment to getting cameras rolling safely again.”
Other major projects set to move into production or continue filming as a result of the ruling include “Jurassic World: Dominion”, “Fantastic Beasts 3”, and the live action Disney remakes of “Cinderella (2021)” and “The Little Mermaid (2020)”.

Tom Cruise Dodges Britain's New Quarantine Rule for 'Mission: Impossible VII' Filming

    WENN

The ‘Top Gun’ actor is believed to have arrived in the country through Biggin Hill airport outside of London just hours before the new measures for visitors came into play.
    Jun 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tom Cruise has reportedly side-stepped the British Government’s new quarantine measures by flying into the U.K. just hours before new rules for visitors came into play.
Cruise is believed to have landed at Biggin Hill airport outside of London on Sunday, June 07 ahead of resuming filming on “Mission: Impossible VII” – just hours before U.K. government rules requiring anyone entering the country to spend 14 days in isolation came into effect.
According to editors at British newspaper The Sun, the “Top Gun” star beat the new quarantine rules, and is now free to resume filming of the new “Mission: Impossible” movie at the blockbuster’s set at an abandoned RAF base in rural Oxfordshire.
A source told the publication: “It’s no accident Tom arrived on Sunday night – they didn’t want their leading man locked away on his own for 14 days.”
“There have already been so many delays to the film and everyone is keen to get it up and running at the first possible second – so slipping in before the quarantine rules came in on Monday made sense. Hopefully it will mean the film can get back on track and finished without any more delays.”
After arriving on the 11-hour flight from Clearwater, Florida, the 57-year-old was whisked away to luxury rented accommodation in the capital – and will use a helicopter to travel to and from the set during filming breaks.
Shooting on the latest instalment in the action franchise was halted in February, after coronavirus outbreaks prevented filming in Venice, Italy.
Movie bosses have taken over an old Royal Air Force (RAF) site in Oxfordshire where they are reportedly building sets, and a village of high-end trailers so Cruise and the rest of the cast can live there in a pandemic-proof bubble while shooting.

Tom Cruise to Resume Filming 'Mission: Impossible 7' in September

    Paramount Pictures

The cast and crew members of the next ‘Mission: Impossible’ installment will be back to work this coming fall without any changes to the filming locations.
    Jun 3, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tom Cruise will resume shooting “Mission: Impossible 7” in September 2020 following a forced hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the film’s first assistant director.
Production on the movie was shut down in Italy in February, as the European nation emerged as one of the epicentres of the pandemic, with plans to shift production to London also scuppered when the U.K. also had to impose a lockdown due to the spread of the coronavirus.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, Tommy Gormley, first assistant director to helmer Christopher McQuarrie, said the cast and crew plan to start shooting in the autumn – and won’t alter any locations.
“We hope to restart in September,” he revealed. “We hope to visit all the countries we planned to. We hope to do a big chunk of it back in the U.K. on the backlot and in the studio.”
Gormley went on to assert that he is “convinced” that the Paramount production could be finished by May at the latest and ready for its November 2021 release date with time to spare.
Cast and crew, including Cruise, who plays superspy Ethan Hunt in the hit franchise, were in Venice, Italy waiting to shoot scenes when they had to leave the country as it imposed a stringent lockdown due to a surge in Covid-19 cases.
Gormley went on to say that troublesome location shoots or stunt set-pieces would not be moved, shelved, or rendered with CGI due to the difficulties posed by the pandemic.
“This is our challenge,” he added. “We are not a chamber piece movie. We do spectacle, and that is what people expect of us.”
Film and TV productions in the U.K. are now getting up and running again as the country eases its lockdown, with some resuming as early as next week, albeit with strict social distancing regulations.

'Mission: Impossible 7' Replaces Nicholas Hoult With Esai Morales

    WENN

The upcoming seventh installment of the Tom Cruise-fronted action movie franchise has found its villain in Esai Morales after Nicholas Hoult left the project.
    May 22, 2020
AceShowbiz – Esai Morales has replaced Nicholas Hoult as the villain in the new “Mission: Impossible” blockbuster.
Hoult was forced to pull out of the Tom Cruise film, directed by Christopher McQuarrie when the coronavirus shutdown upset the movie’s schedule, clashing with another project the Brit had committed to, according to Deadline.
The project was just about to go before cameras when the industry was put on hold in March 2020 and now “Mission; Impossible 7” ‘s July, 2021 release date has been moved to November next year.
Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, and Vanessa Kirby are all returning for “Mission: Impossible 7” while Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, and Shea Whigham have joined the cast alongside Morales.

    Feb 25, 2020
AceShowbiz – Filming on the latest “Mission: Impossible VII” movie in Venice, Italy has been halted due to coronavirus concerns.
The Tom Cruise movie has been temporarily shut down as Italian government officials continue to put a stop to public gatherings, while the number of those affected by the epidemic grows.
The action thriller, the seventh in the series, was set to hit the city for three weeks and now bosses at Paramount are looking into alternate locations, according to Deadline.
The news comes as British singer Mabel pulled the plug on an upcoming Milan gig due to fears about the spread of the disease.
Italian government officials are battling hard to contain the spread of the virus, placing lockdown restrictions on more than 50,000 people in areas which have experienced cases of the virus, which originated in China late last year (19).
