  • Gabrielle Union: 'Bring It On' Sequel Is 'Absolutely Going to Happen'

    Universal Pictures

The former ‘America’s Got Talent’ judge is confident that the upcoming sequel to her classic cheerleader movie is happening following her online reunion with co-star Kirsten Dunst.
    Sep 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – Gabrielle Union has delighted “Bring It On” fans by promising that a sequel of the much-loved cheerleading movie is “absolutely going to happen.”
The 47-year-old actress starred as Isis in the 2000 film, alongside Kirsten Dunst and Eliza Dushku, with rumours about a follow-up movie circling for the past few years.
But as she appeared on “The Late Late Show with James Corden” earlier this week (end13Sep20), Gabrielle gave the strongest hint that a sequel is in the works, as she told the chat show host, “It’s absolutely going to happen, I think because we all got obsessed with Cheer on Netflix. And it kind of brought back the whole love of cheerleading. And we kind of want to see where these people would be 20 years later.”
Five direct-to-video sequels were released off the back of the original “Bring It On” movie, with none of the follow-up instalments featuring the original cast.
Gabrielle’s remarks come after “Bring It On” writer Jessica Bendinger told CinemaBlend’s ReelBlend podcast that she and the film’s director Peyton Reed have “really talked about” a follow-up film.
“We really would love to do it. Would the stars align, is everyone available, all that. But yeah, Peyton and I, intermittently over the years, yes. And it goes from the absurd to the sublime with all the variations about where are they now?” she said.

The One Direction star has been signed on for the upcoming feature film ‘Don’t Worry, Darling’ to replace the original star who left the project due to scheduling conflicts.
    Sep 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – Pop star Harry Styles is ramping up his acting career by replacing Shia LaBeouf in Olivia Wilde’s next directorial project.
LaBeouf had been due to take on a leading role in the thriller “Don’t Worry, Darling”, but a scheduling conflict has forced him to bow out, and now One Direction hunk Styles has been tapped to fill the spot following his acting debut in Christopher Nolan’s World War Two epic “Dunkirk”.
He joins a cast featuring Florence Pugh and Chris Pine while Wilde will pull double duty by also portraying a supporting character onscreen, reports Deadline.
Few plot details have been released, but the New Line Cinema movie is set in an isolated community in the California desert in the 1950s.
Production officials are hoping to begin filming this autumn (20) under strict coronavirus health and safety measures.
In addition to “Don’t Worry, Darling”, Wilde, who made her big directorial debut with the critically-acclaimed “Booksmart” last year (19), is also gearing up to take charge of a top secret new Marvel blockbuster, rumoured to be focused on the Spider-Woman character.

  • 'Wonder Woman 1984' Pushed Back Until Christmas in Latest Delay Amid Pandemic

    Warner Bros. Pictures

The ‘Wonder Woman’ sequel fronted by Gal Gadot is facing a delay yet again as the movie is now held back until December as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
    Sep 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – The launch of the highly-anticipated “Wonder Woman” sequel has been officially pushed back until Christmas (20).
Theatre shutdowns across the globe due to the coronavirus pandemic had already prompted studio bosses at Warner Bros. to delay its original June release for Gal Gadot’s return as the DC Comics superhero until August, and then October, but now they have opted to make fans wait a little longer as indoor cinemas remain closed in a number of key U.S. markets.
Now “Wonder Woman 1984” will land on 25 December.
Confirming the news on Friday (11Sep20), director Patty Jenkins shares in a statement, “First and foremost let me say how much Gal and I love all our devoted Wonder Woman fans around the world, and your excitement for WW84 couldn’t make us happier or more eager for you to see the movie.”
“Because I know how important it is to bring this movie to you on a big screen when all of us can share the experience together, I’m hopeful you won’t mind waiting just a little bit longer. With the new date on Christmas Day, we can’t wait to spend the holidays with you!”
The latest delay will come as a big blow to theatre owners as they attempt to draw film fans back to big screens amid the ongoing pandemic.
Christopher Nolan’s recently-released sci-fi epic, “Tenet”, was the first blockbuster to hit theatres in the post-COVID-19 era, with James Bond action thriller “No Time to Die” still set to open in November (20).
Disney’s next Marvel movie, “Black Widow”, is currently still scheduled for a 6 November opening in the U.S. although rumours suggest another delay is likely due to continued box office concerns.

  • Cancel Netflix Petition Launched Amid Backlash Over Controversial Movie 'Cuties'

    Bien Ou Bien Productions

Maimouna Doucoure, director of the 18+ award-winning film, has previously revealed she received ‘numerous death threats’ due to an inappropriately sexualised poster used to promote the movie.
    Sep 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Netflix’s movie “Cuties” continues to face resistance from people due to its controversial theme. Amid growing backlash over the movie, people have launched a petition to cancel the streaming service and made #CancelNetflix trending on Twitter on Thursday, September 10.
Those who complained about the film mainly took issue with the fact that it focuses on young girls while the movie itself is labeled for 18+. “This movie/show is disgusting as it sexualizes an ELEVEN year old for the viewing pleasure of pedophiles and also negatively influences our children!” wrote the petition creator, Allison M.
“There is no need for this kind of content in that age group, especially when sex trafficking and pedophilia are so rampant! There is no excuse, this is dangerous content!” she went on claiming. Allison also urged people who signed the petition to support another petition “to the FBI to Charge Netflix with Distribution of Inappropriate Child Material!”
More than 300,000 people have signed the petition and the number is rapidly growing. One of them left a comment which read, “Eleven year olds don’t need to be sexualized.” Another simply noted, “This is disgusting.”
Another critic posted on Twitter, “Netflix…this is not fine. 18+ movie about 11 yr old girls is not fine,” adding, “I wont #CancelNetfilx but please you must be critical on this. You can do better than this.” Another user’s comment was more harsh, slamming the company, “All the proof you need to realize critics are shills, cowards and obsolete.”
“WOWW NETFLIX JUST F**KED UP BIG BIG BIG BIG TIMESS,” an appalled user wrote. “its crazy that they literally released a f**king child pornography movie and had like 650 11 years old twerking for the auditions. its disgusting and sickening #CancelNetfilx [sic].”
Netflix previously faced backlash over a poster used to promote “Cuties” which was accused of sexualizing young girls. After the company removed it, director of the French film, Maimouna Doucoure, revealed she received death threats over the poster controversy.
“I received numerous attacks on my character from people who had not seen the film, who thought I was actually making a film that was apologetic about hypersexualiation of children,” she told Deadline earlier this month. “I also received numerous death threats.”
“Cuties” centers on a traditional Senegalese Muslim girl who is caught between two contrasting sides, traditional values and Internet culture. The coming-of-age comedy-drama nabbed Directing Award-Dramatic for filmmaker Doucoure at the Sundance Film Festival.

  • 'Fast and Furious 9' Going to Outer Space, Michelle Rodriguez Confirms

    Universal Pictures

The Letty Ortiz depicter lets slip a juicy detail of the upcoming installment of the action film franchise when asked about the rumor which was first sparked by her co-star Ludacris.
    Sep 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Michelle Rodriguez couldn’t hold back her tongue when talking about “F9”. The Letty Ortiz of the “Fast & Furious” film saga has let slip a juicy detail of the upcoming installment of the franchise when stopping by SiriusXM’s “The Jess Cagle Show” on Thursday, September 10.
During an interview with hosts Jess Cagle and Julia Cunningham, the 42-year-old was asked if she was heading to space with Ludacris, who first teased the space venture in the ninth movie. Surprised at how they found out the information, she failed to keep her cool and inadvertently confirmed it.
“Oh, no way. How did you guys find that out? See what happens? People start talking behind the scenes, man,” she responded, not denying the said plot detail. Blaming in on the long gap between the eighth and ninth film, she speculated, “When a movie doesn’t come out and forget about it, things get out.”
“Nobody was supposed to know that,” Rodriguez went on claiming, not realizing that she only made it worse. She eventually gave an answer to the actual question as saying, “Oh, well, no, I’m not, I’m not, I’m not lucky enough to hit space.”
The “Avatar” star also revealed that the movie’s writing team includes a female writer, something which she had been pushing for. “…we did get a female writer and showed a lot of love, I think, on this one,” she shared. “Thanks to…Justin Lin. We were able to, to find a little bit more attention and love for the girls in the movie. And so I’m really hopeful that that, that shows through in the final product.”
“Super grateful that they were open to it. I wanted a female writer. I wanted all the females in Fast & Furious to get some love,” she continued to show her appreciation for the movie execs for listening to her aspiration. “The thing is, is that all the guys are focused on the guys, period,” she explained, hoping for a change with the addition of a female writer. “And so I just know that if I bring up a female writer and she might care a little more about the female story.”
“F9” was originally slated to hit theaters on May 22 of this year, but it has been pushed back for almost a year due to COVID-19 pandemic. The Vin Diesel-starring movie is now scheduled to open in theaters on April 2, 2021.

  • 'Fast and Furious' Co-Creator Resolves 'Hobbs and Shaw' Lawsuit Against Universal Amicably

    WENN/Avalon

Both producer Neal Moritz and the studio express their relief that their ‘little family disagreement’ is over, and that they are able to now ‘focus on the future of this franchise.’
    Sep 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – The brains behind the “Fast and Furious” franchise and the series’ studio bosses have ended their feud over the “Hobbs & Shaw” spin-off.
Universal executives and producer Neal Moritz are all friends again after he took them to court for breach of contract over the 2019 film “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw”, starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Jason Statham.
Announcing a settlement on Thursday (September 10), a Universal spokesman told Deadline, “Neal H. Moritz has been an integral part of the ‘Fast & Furious’ family since the inception of the franchise nearly two decades ago. The studio and Neal have amicably resolved our dispute and settled all claims relating to the ‘Fast & Furious’ spin-off ‘Hobbs & Shaw’. We’re glad to put this issue behind us and focus on the future of this franchise.”
Meanwhile, Moritz is glad the “little family disagreement” is over, adding, “I am happy to rejoin my Universal and Fast family to continue to work on the ‘Fast’ saga for many films to come. I appreciate Universal’s leadership team working with me and my attorney, Howard Abramson, to resolve this fairly.”
In his suit, Moritz claimed he had been replaced as a producer on “Hobbs & Shaw” days before the film went before the cameras. He fought to be either reinstated as the lead producer or be paid “tens of millions of dollars in damages in lost compensation.”

  • Halle Berry's Heart Aches for Being the Only Black Woman to Ever Win Best Actress at Oscars

    WENN

The Catwoman actress calls her 2002 triumph at the Academy Awards one of her ‘biggest heartbreaks’ as she knew other black women should have been there before and after her.
    Sep 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Halle Berry’s 2002 Academy Award’s success is one of her “biggest heartbreaks” because “there was no place for someone like me” in Hollywood.
The actress took home the Best Actress prize for the film “Monster’s Ball”, making her the first Black woman to win the award – and she remains the only Black woman to have achieved the honour to date.
Despite the success, in an interview with Variety, the star reflected on the win and what has come since, including a deficit of role offers which has tainted her achievement.
“I think it’s largely because there was no place for someone like me,” Berry said. “I thought, ‘Oh, all these great scripts are going to come my way; these great directors are going to be banging on my door.’ It didn’t happen.”
She admitted, “It actually got a little harder. They call it the Oscar curse. You’re expected to turn in award-worthy performances.”
Nearly two decades after accepting the award, the star is astonished that no other Black woman has matched her accomplishment.
“I thought there were women that rightfully, arguably, could have, should have. I hoped they would have, but why it hasn’t gone that way, I don’t have the answer,” she insisted, naming “Harriet” ‘s Cynthia Erivo and “Loving” star Ruth Negga.
The “Catwoman” star continued, “It’s one of my biggest heartbreaks… The morning after, I thought, ‘Wow, I was chosen to open a door.’ And then, to have no one… I question, ‘Was that an important moment, or was it just an important moment for me?’ ”
“I wanted to believe it was so much bigger than me. It felt so much bigger than me, mainly because I knew others should have been there before me and they weren’t.”
