    Warner Bros.

The Jackie Robinson biographical film will be re-released in 740 movie theaters nationwide in honor of the late ‘Black Panther’ actor, who died on August 28.
    Sep 2, 2020
AceShowbiz – Chadwick Boseman’s sports film “42” will return to big screen in the wake of his passing. The Jackie Robinson biopic will be re-released in 740 movie theaters nationwide to celebrate the life of the “Black Panther” star.
AMC, Regal, Cinemark, Alamo Drafthouse, Marcus and Harkins are among theater chains which would be honoring the late actor with the re-release of his film. AMC Theaters announced that it will show the 2013 film in 300 different locations starting Thursday, September 3, with a discounted price of $5 per ticket.
Shortly after Boseman’s death, AMC polled its fans on social media to ask fans which of the actor’s movies, excluding “Black Panther”, was their favorite. His portrayal of the Major League Baseball legend came on top of the poll.
In the movie, Boseman portrayed the Brooklyn Dodgers baseman who overcame the race barrier to be the first African American who played in MLB in 1947. Directed by Oscar winner Brian Helgeland, “42” grossed $97.5 million at the global box office on a $40 million budget and received generally positive reviews from critics.
Boseman died at at 43 after quietly battling colon cancer for 4 years. “A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much,” his family said in a statement. “From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more- all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther.”
In the wake of his passing, Netflix has scrapped a preview event for his final film “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”, which was set to take place on Monday, August 31. Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos said of the late actor after the event cancellation, “Chadwick was a superhero on screen and in life, and it’s impossible to imagine working at the level he has while valiantly battling his illness.”

  • Johnny Depp Requests Delay of Defamation Trial to Film 'Fantastic Beasts 3'

    WENN

The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor seeks postponement to the trial for his defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard to accommodate filming of the ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ sequel.
    Sep 2, 2020
AceShowbiz – Johnny Depp’s legal drama with his ex-wife Amber Heard is going to take a longer time to be settled. The actor is seeking a delay of trial for his defamation lawsuit against the “Aquaman” actress because of the upcoming production of “Fantastic Beasts 3”.
Due to the COVID-19, filming on the David Yates-directed movie was put on hold earlier this year. Now that the British government has allowed some projects to resume filming in London with strict protocols, production on the “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” sequel is set to pick back up again starting in October and possibly extending into February 2021, conflicting with the defamation trial set to take place from January 11 to 28 next year.
“When the Court set the current trial date in this case, Mr. Depp understood that Warner Bros. planned to shoot ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ in London long before January 11, 2021. COVID-19 disrupted the studio’s plans, causing repeated postponements,” Depp’s lawyers says in court papers. “With conditions in London having improved somewhat, Warner Bros. has now set a shooting schedule that conflicts with the trial date in this case.”
Depp says he was notified on August 19 that he’s called back to work from early October through mid-February. He also asks the trial to be postponed until sometime between on March and June 2021.
“Mr. Depp would face potential liability for breach of contract should he fail to comply with the schedule contractually dictated by Warner Bros.,” states the filing. “Though Mr. Depp is eager to proceed to trial, he faces an untenable situation over which he has no control.”
In the motion, Depp additionally argues that Heard’s recent response and $100 million counterclaim warrants a postponement. The legal papers note that the “London Fields” star has agreed to meet on September 11 to discuss the potential delay and that the proposed postponement “would not entail any prejudice to her, much less unfair prejudice” because she’s expected to film “Aquaman 2” sometime in 2021.
Depp’s motion for the delay of the defamation trial hereby shut down rumors that the Academy Award-nominated actor and the “Magic Mike XXL” star would be fired from their respective projects. Words were Warner Bros. was considering to replace the 57-year-old actor in “Fantastic Beasts 3” and the 34-year-old actress in “Aquaman 2” due to the bad press regarding their legal drama.

  • John David Washington Had to Unlearn What He Is Used to Doing for 'Tenet' Role

    Warner Bros.

The ‘BlacKkKlansman’ actor reveals that director Christopher Nolan instructed his stunt team to create fight scenes in reverse and asked his cast to learn to speak backwards.
    Sep 1, 2020
AceShowbiz – John David Washington had to learn to do everything backwards for his latest role in director Christopher Nolan’s ambitious “Tenet”.
The “BlackKklansman” star reveals Nolan instructed his stunt team to create fight scenes in reverse, while calling on his cast to learn to speak backwards.
“I had to learn how to blink, walk, talk, fight, run, block, punch backwards and forwards…,” the former professional sportsman tells “Good Morning America”. “It was a great challenge for me having a football background, being able to unlearn what I’m used to doing.”
“We were sort of discovering these moves together with the stunt coordinators… It was a great experience. It was taxing on the body but it was worth it for sure.”

But learning to speak in reverse was a real head scratcher and Washington turned to an app for help.
“You speak a line or a word into the app and it says it backwards to you and you learn how to say that…,” he adds. “Some of the best work I’ve ever seen from an actor came from Kenneth Branagh – he was also saying his lines backwards but with a Russian accent… It was insane.”

  • Kieran Culkin: I Did Not Know Macaulay Was the Star of 'Home Alone'

    WENN/FayesVision

Despite appearing alongside his older brother in the movie, the ‘Succession’ actor confesses to James Corden that he ‘didn’t even know what it was about when they were doing it.’
    Aug 31, 2020
AceShowbiz – Kieran Culkin had no idea his big brother Macaulay Culkin was the star of “Home Alone” – despite appearing in the flick alongside him.
The “Succession” star appeared as Macaulay’s character Kevin’s bed-wetting cousin Fuller in the movie, but he tells James Corden on his “The Late Late Show with James Corden” that, despite acting in the film, he was surprised to learn his sibling was the leading man.
“I didn’t even know what the movie was about when we were doing it, so it was a fresh, brand new movie when I saw it,” Kieran shares. “There’s a part in the movie where there’s a kid who gets his head counted incorrectly and he goes, ‘Bye, bring me back something French!’ I thought the movie was about that kid.”
“It made sense when I saw it,” Kieran insists. “I remember seeing it in the theater at the premiere and I was dying laughing and I was like, ‘Oh, that makes sense ’cause Mac was on set all the time.'”
    [embedded content]
And last week (August 26), Macaulay celebrated his 40th birthday by trolling fans online with a message reading, “Hey guys, wanna feel old? I’m 40. You’re welcome…”
“Since I’m 40 I think it’s about time to start my midlife crisis. I’m thinking of picking up surfing. Do you all have any suggestions?” he quipped.

    Aug 31, 2020
AceShowbiz – Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly will receive equal billing for “Ant-Man 3”.
The stars are set to front the forthcoming movie as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Hope van Dyne /Wasp, respectively, with director Peyton Reed – who helmed 2018’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp” and will return for the new film.
Discussing the two in a chat with Yahoo Entertainment, Peyton insists, “They’re a partnership, and she’s a very, very important part of that. And that was a very gratifying thing, I guess technically we were the first Marvel movie with a female hero in the title of the movie.”
“Finding that balance in that movie, that’s very important to me because that’s very much a men’s playing field, historically. But that’s really, really changing now in a great way,” Peyton shares of the preparations for “Ant-Man 3”.
Teasing the next instalment of the franchise, which was penned by “Rick and Morty” writer Jeff Loveness and is set for a 2022 release, he adds, “We have (cracked the story). Nothing is official yet, but we’re quietly working. We’re working through the pandemic.”

  • Preview Event for Chadwick Boseman's Final Film Gets Scrapped

    WENN

The ‘Black Panther’ actor, who passed away after a secret, four-year cancer battle, stars opposite Viola Davis in Netflix’s ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’, which is produced by Denzel Washington.
    Aug 31, 2020
AceShowbiz – A virtual preview for Chadwick Boseman’s final film has been scrapped out of respect for the late actor.
Netflix bosses had been due to host an online event on Monday (August 31) for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”, the movie adaptation of August Wilson’s play of the same name, in which the “Black Panther” star had featured alongside Viola Davis.
However, in light of Boseman’s passing from a secret, four-year cancer battle on Friday (August 28), officials have chosen to scrap the preview, which was due to include commentary from Davis and director George C. Wolfe.
In a statement issued to Deadline.com, a Netflix representative said, “This is an incredible loss. We are canceling Monday’s preview event of ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’. Please join us in sending your thoughts to his family and loved ones.”
Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos added, “Chadwick was a superhero on screen and in life, and it’s impossible to imagine working at the level he has while valiantly battling his illness.”
“His legacy as a person and an artist will inspire millions. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during this difficult time.”
Meanwhile, Davis has shared her tribute to Boseman on social media, writing, “Chadwick…..no words to express my devastation of losing you. Your talent, your spirit, your heart, your authenticity…”
“It was an honor working beside you, getting to know you….Rest well prince…May flights of angels sing thee to thy heavenly rest. I love you!”

And Denzel Washington, who serves as a producer on “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”, has remembered Boseman too, years after paying for the Howard University graduate to attend an acting programme at Oxford University in England.
“He was a gentle soul and a brilliant artist, who will stay with us for eternity through his iconic performances over his short yet illustrious career,” Washington wrote. “God bless Chadwick Boseman.”
A release date for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” has yet to be announced.

  • 'Tenet' Leads Post-Coronavirus Box Office With $53 Million Global Debut

    Warner Bros.

The Christopher Nolan-directed new thriller has finally got its theatrical launch in 41 markets outside North America, while ‘X-Men’ spin-off ‘The New Mutants’ earns $7 million domestically.
    Aug 31, 2020
AceShowbiz – Christopher Nolan’s new thriller “Tenet” is leading the post-coronavirus box office comeback with a $53 million (£39.7 million) theatrical launch.
The Warner Bros. release, starring Robert Pattinson, John David Washington and Elizabeth Debicki opened in 41 markets outside North America this weekend (August 28-30), scoring its strongest start in the U.K., where it banked $7.1 million (£5.3 million).
Praising the impressive opening as “a fantastic start,” studio chairman Toby Emmerich stated, “Given the unprecedented circumstances of this global release we know we’re running a marathon, not a sprint, and look forward to long playability for this film globally for many weeks to come.”
“Tenet” is still yet to open in the two largest markets of China and the U.S., where it will launch on September 3, in time for America’s Labor Day bank holiday weekend.
U.S. theater-goers instead flocked to check out the long-delayed “X-Men” spin-off “The New Mutants”, which grossed $7 million (£5.2 million) – the biggest opening for any new film since the COVID-19 shutdown, even though it was panned by critics and cinemas remained shuttered in a number of states, including California and New York.
Keanu Reeves’ “Bill & Ted Face the Music” was another new release, debuting on both video-on-demand and in select theaters, where it made just under $1.1 million (£824,000), as was “The Personal History of David Copperfield”, a Charles Dickens adaptation starring Dev Patel, which opened with $520,000 (£389,600) from 1,360 theaters.
