  • Jason Mitchell to Rebuild Acting Career With Sean Bell Role in New Biopic

    WENN

A little over a years after getting cut from ‘The Chi’ amid misconduct allegations, the ‘Straight Outta Compton’ star sets his eyes on the film project that focuses on the police brutality victim.
    Aug 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actor Jason Mitchell is aiming to get his career back on track by tackling a biopic about police brutality victim Sean Bell.
The “Straight Outta Compton” star has been hitting headlines for all the wrong reasons of late, but now he’s hoping to shift the spotlight back to his work onscreen in the timely project, “50 Shots”.
Bell and two pals were leaving a strip club in Queens, New York for his bachelor party back in 2006 when both uniformed and plainclothes police officers opened fire on their car, unleashing 50 shots, killing the 23-year-old on the eve of his wedding.
Undercover cops, who had been investigating the strip club for prostitution, believed the three men had been armed, but no weapons were found after the shooting, which left Bell dead and his two friends severely injured.
Three of the five detectives involved in the controversial incident were put on trial for charges including manslaughter and assault, but they were all acquitted, and city officials eventually settled a civil suit with Bell’s family for $7 million (£5.3 million).
Mitchell had originally been pitched the role of a detective, but upon reading the script, he asked to play Bell – and his wish was granted, reports TMZ.
He will serve as an executive producer on the movie, alongside Tru of TruVision Films, and the project has received the blessing of Bell’s relatives, who have been closely involved in its development over the past three years.

Sean’s father, William, has also been in regular contact with Mitchell since he boarded the movie.
Mitchell has been trying to rebuild his reputation after he was cut from the cast of hit drama series “The Chi” last year (19) amid misconduct allegations, which also cost him a part in Netflix movie “Desperados”.
The actor, who denied any wrongdoing, was back in the headlines again in April following his arrest on felony drug and weapons charges, which his representative insisted was all one big “misunderstanding.”

  • Warner Bros. Investigating Abuse Allegations on 'Justice League' Set After Ray Fisher's Claims

    WENN

In a couple of tweets, the Cyborg depicter thanks the studio for finally looking into the matter weeks after he spoke up against director Joss Whedon for allegedly fostering a hostile work environment.
    Aug 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – Warner Bros. is officially launching an investigation into abuse allegations on the set of Joss Whedon’s “Justice League”. Weeks after Ray Fisher spoke up against the director, who took over from Zack Synder during the reshoots, the studio is looking into the matter.
It’s Fisher himself who revealed the ongoing investigation into the matter. In a couple of tweets, which he re-posted on Instagram, the Cyborg depicter wrote on Thursday, August 20, “After 5 weeks of interviews with various cast/crew, @WarnerMedia has officially launched an independent third-party investigation to get to the heart of the toxic and abusive work environment created during Justice League reshoots. This is a MASSIVE step forward!”
“I believe this investigation will show that Geoff Johns, Joss Whedon, Jon Berg (and others) grossly abused their power during the uncertainty of AT&T’s merger with Time Warner,” he added, before thanking “@WarnerMedia and @ATT for making strides to ensure a safer workplace for all!”

Last month, in the wake of announced plans to release Zack Snyder’s cut of “Justice League”, Fisher spoke up against Whedon’s “abusive, unprofessional” behavior on the set of the 2017 film. Asked to compare working with Whedon and Snyder, who left the project due to a family tragedy, the actor replied, “I don’t want to compare them in any way, shape or form. But what I will say toward the Joss Whedon situation is obviously I put out some pretty strong words and some pretty strong comments about Joss Whedon, and every single one of those words, every single one of those comments, is true.”
Doubling down on his comments, the 32-year-old tweeted earlier this month that Whedon’s treatment on the cast and crew was “gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable.” He went on alleging that producers Geoff Johns and Jon Berg “enabled” Whedon.
In a statement to Variety, Berg denied Fisher’s claims, saying it was “categorically untrue that we enabled any unprofessional behavior” on “Justice League” set.
In a tweet posted last week, Fisher detailed Johns’ action that he categorized as enabling Whedon. “During the LA reshoots for Justice League, Geoff Johns summoned me to his office to belittle and admonish my (and my agent’s) attempts to take grievances up to the proper chain of command. He then made a thinly veiled threat to my career,” he tweeted. “This behavior cannot continue.”

Warner Bros. has not addressed the matter.

    Warner Bros. Entertainment/Claudette Barius

Though ruling himself out of any potential sequels, the actor known for his portrayal of Big Dick Richie insists he is still very much in touch with his co-star Matt Bomer.
    Aug 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Magic Mike” hunk Joe Manganiello has ruled himself out of any potential movie sequels after declaring himself “retired” from the stripper stage.
The actor set pulses racing as Big Dick Richie in Channing Tatum’s semi-autobiographical 2012 film and its 2015 sequel, “Magic Mike XXL”, but if the franchise is revived for a third film, Manganiello won’t be squeezing his package back into his thong.
“I’m retired,” he smiles to People magazine.
However, Manganiello is still very much in touch with his co-star Matthew Bomer, as their friendship dates back to their drama school days at Carnegie Mellon University in the 43-year-old’s native Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
“We always talk,” Manganiello says. “I got so much from going to the drama school that I went to in terms of learning and technique, but one of the great things that I got is all of the friends I have that work in the business. And one of the great things is the friendship that I have with Matt. Matt and I always stay in touch, and talk and catch up, and grab lunch.”

The “Argo” star was slated to play Bruce Wayne and his crime-fighting alter ego in The Batman, but he stepped down as the film’s star and director in early 2019 after playing the role, alongside The Flash’s Ezra Miller in “Justice League”.

The actress calls off a virtual question and answer event with director Neil Marshall to promote her film ‘The Reckoning’ amid her link to the scandal involving former NBCU executive Ron Meyer.
    Aug 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – A virtual fan question-and-answer session with actress Charlotte Kirk and the director of her new movie “The Reckoning” has been pulled after she was linked to the drama surrounding former NBCUniversal boss Ron Meyer.
Kirk is believed to be the woman at the centre of Meyer’s infidelity scandal, which led to him stepping down as the company’s vice chairman after 25 years earlier this week (beg17Aug20).
Reports suggest Meyer had become a target of an extortion attempt linked to his affair and when he raised the issues with his fellow executives, they came to the mutual decision he should exit the company.
Now, bosses at genre festival Fantasia have axed a Q&A with Kirk and director Neil Marshall, which was scheduled to promote their film “The Reckoning” on Thursday night (20Aug20), calling it a “mutually agreed decision,” according to Deadline.
The virtual festival will still open with the film as planned.
Kirk co-wrote and executive produced the horror movie with Marshall. The pair has yet to respond to the news.
