Westbrook Inc. officials have confirmed 10 of their Los Angeles-based employees were diagnosed with the novel coronavirus, before stating that retesting results came back negative.
    Aug 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Will Smith’s efforts to get his production company back up and running have suffered a setback after a group of staffmembers tested positive for the coronavirus.
Westbrook Inc. officials have confirmed 10 Los Angeles-based employees were diagnosed with COVID-19 last week (ends August 09), causing filming on one of their projects to be shut down.
However, they stopped short of identifying the project in question, and claim all affected staffers have since tested negative – although the difference in results within just a few days raises questions about the validity of the tests used.
“We received 10 positive tests and the crew members quarantined and remain in quarantine,” they told Variety.
“All 10 people were retested and have received negative results. We will continue to follow all official guidelines and safety protocols.”
Smith runs Westbrook Inc. with his wife, actress Jada Pinkett Smith. It serves as the parent firm for the action man’s film production company, Overbrook Entertainment, through which the “Independence Day” star is developing “King Richard”, a biopic in which he will portray Richard Williams, the father of tennis superstars Venus Williams and Serena Williams.

  • Tom Cruise Refuses to Run Alongside Co-Stars in His Movies

    WENN

According to Annabelle Wallis, the ‘Mission: Impossible’ actor doesn’t let his co-stars run alongside him on screen and recalls how she convinced him to make an exception for her.
    Aug 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tom Cruise apparently doesn’t like anyone to run next to him on screen.
According to actress Annabelle Wallis, who starred alongside 58-year-old Cruise in 2017’s “The Mummy”, the actor initially refused to allow her to sprint with him during filming.
Explaining how she convinced him to change his mind, the star explained, “He’s on a different level, and, you know, I ticked a box. I got to run on-screen with him, but he told me no at first. He said, ‘Nobody runs on-screen (with me),’ and I said, ‘But I’m a really good runner.’ ”
“So, I would time my treadmill so that he’d walk in and see me run. And then he added all these running scenes,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “So, that was it. It was, like, better than an Oscar. I was so happy! I was so happy that I got to run on-screen with Tom Cruise. But I don’t think it ever goes away and I hope it never does.”
Wallis gushed of working with the “Top Gun” star, “It’s so wonderful to be excited by someone and in awe of what they’ve achieved in their lives. Yeah, good on him. And I hope the questions never stop. I love talking about him. It’s really cool.”

  • Tom Holland Disses 'Preacher' Robert Pattinson in 'The Devil All the Time' Trailer

    [embedded content]

Holland’s Arvin Russell is a good young boy drifted into darkness as he tries to protect his loved ones from God-fearing people who feel fine to engage in criminal and despicable acts.
    Aug 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Netflix has released the first trailer for “The Devil All the Time” featuring Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson among its all-star cast. The gothic thriller focuses on sinister characters converge around a young man devoted to protecting those he loves in a postwar backwoods town teeming with corruption and brutality.
At the center of the story is Arvin Russell (Holland), who receives his late father’s gun on his birthday. Apparently old enough to use the weapon, he is left speechless with the gift and seems reluctant to use it though saying that it’s “the best gift” he’s ever got.
The video then shows other characters in the Bible-thumping town of Knockemstiff, Ohio, where these seemingly God-fearing people feel fine to engage in criminal and despicable acts despite their proclaimed faith. Among the sinners are Carl Henderson (Jason Clarke), a husband with a filthy hobby of taking pictures of women other than his wife Sandy (Riley Keough), and Rev. Preston Teagardin (Pattinson), who gets a little to close to a young girl.
Apparently sensing the preacher’s bad moral, Arvin tries to assure an elderly woman, “That ain’t no preacher.” The young man goes on dissing Rev. Preston, “He’s as bad as they got on the damn radio.” In another scene, he appears to confront the preacher.
As he starts to drift into darkness, Arvin makes an excuse for his future acts as saying, “What I’m about to do, I do because I have to. Not because I want to.”
“Some people are just born to be buried,” reads the synopsis of the movie. “In Knockemstiff, Ohio and its neighboring backwoods, sinister characters – an unholy preacher (Pattinson), twisted couple (Clarke and Keough), and crooked sheriff (Sebastian Stan) – converge around young Arvin Russell (Holland) as he fights the evil forces that threaten him and his family.”
It continues, “Spanning the time between World War II and the Vietnam war, director Antonio Campos’ ‘THE DEVIL ALL THE TIME’ renders a seductive and horrific landscape that pits the just against the corrupted. Co-starring Bill Skarsgard, Mia Wasikowska, Harry Melling, Haley Bennett and Pokey LaFarge, this suspenseful, finely-woven tale is adapted from Donald Ray Pollock’s award-winning novel.”
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Campos said of adapting the novel into a script with his brother Paulo, “It was a hard book to adapt also because there was so much that we loved.” He went on sharing, “I’m a big fan of southern gothic and noir and this was a perfect marriage of the two. Sometimes you might be adapting a piece and you think like, Well, there is a seed of a good idea here and I’ll just throw everything away and start from scratch. In this case it was like, we love everything!”
“The Devil All the Time” is set to premiere September 16 on Netflix.

  • Tom Cruise Furious After Motorbike Explosion Causes Another 'Mission: Impossible 7' Filming Delay

    Paramount Pictures

The set of the Christopher McQuarrie-directed movie is reportedly temporarily closed again as there’s an investigation ongoing on what went wrong during the filming of the motorbike stunt.
    Aug 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Mission: Impossible VII” filming is hit with yet another delay, just a month the crew were given a permission to resume filming in England. This time, the production came to a halt after a motorbike stunt gone wrong.
On Tuesday, August 11, a stuntman shot one of the most expensive action sequences filmed in the U.K. that took six weeks to prepare, according to The Sun. Despite the long and intensive preparation, on the day of the filming, things didn’t go as planned as the bike exploded after a leap from a ramp.
“This has been a massive challenge to stage and has cost a fortune, not to mention weeks and weeks of construction. But when it came to the big day, it went horribly wrong,” a source tells the site. “The idea was for the stuntman to land on some huge pillows filled with card to cushion the blow, while the bike safely crashed to the ground a few metres away.”
“Unfortunately, it was miscalculated,” the source adds, before detailing what went wrong, “The heat and the friction of the tyres meant that when the bike crashed, the cardboard padding sparked and went up in flames. The smoke was so bad they had to close a nearby RAF airfield.”
It’s reported that “nobody was hurt but it’s a total catastrophe, not to mention extremely expensive for all concerned.” Nevertheless, Oxfordshire Fire Service dispatched five engines and crews to control the fire, while ambulances also raced to the quarry in case of any injury.
Tom Cruise, who checked out the stunt set-up the day before the accident, is believed to have been working with a parachute for a quarry “snow scene” at the time of the blaze. The actor, who also produces the upcoming movie, is said to be “very frustrated” as the source notes, “Nobody wants more delays.”
Following the incident, the set has been temporarily closed as an investigation is ongoing on what went wrong.
“Mission: Impossible 7” had been filming in Italy, when COVID-19 pandemic hit the country in February. Three weeks later, filming resumed in Surrey, England. Production took another hiatus in July, before the crew were given a permission to resume filming in England without going through the mandatory 14-day quarantine.
Christopher McQuarrie serves as director for the seventh installment of the “M: I” film series which is set to arrive on November 19, 2021. Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson (II) and Vanessa Kirby also star in the movie.

  • Elisabeth Moss Excited to Bring 'Complex' Housewife to Life in 'Mrs. March'

    Instagram

Teaming up with novelist Virginia Feito for the psychological thriller project, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ will develop this movie adaptation via her Love and Squalor Pictures production company.
    Aug 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Elisabeth Moss is teaming up with novelist Virginia Feito to turn her upcoming psychological thriller, “Mrs. March”, into a new movie.
Moss is developing the film via her Love and Squalor Pictures production company and she has recruited Feito to adapt her own story about a New York housewife who suspects she inspired the awful protagonist of her writer husband’s latest bestseller.
Feito will also executive produce, alongside Moss, who will star as the titular “Mrs. March”.
“I read Virginia’s novel in one sitting and was so captured by it I knew I had to make it and play Mrs. March,” Moss tells Deadline. “As a character, she is fascinating, complex, and deeply human and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into her. Mrs. March is exactly the kind of engaging and challenging female-led project that Love And Squalor Pictures is built to make.”
“The Handmaid’s Tale” star will also reteam with her “The Invisible Man” producer Jason Blum and his partners at Blumhouse for the film.
“Having worked with Jason on ‘Us’ and the company on ‘The Invisible Man’, I am constantly struck by their creativity and intelligence. Jason Blum is a powerhouse force in the world of storytelling and I am personally honored to be in the Blumhouse family.”
“Mrs. March” will hit bookshelves in the United States in August 2021.

  • Ozzy Osbourne's Upcoming Biopic Will Be R-Rated for Adults Only

    WENN

According to the matriarch Sharon Osbourne, the upcoming movie about the life and career of her rocker husband will be nothing like the ‘clean’ Queen biopic.
    Aug 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ozzy Osbourne’s upcoming biopic will be for adults only.
The rocker’s manager wife, Sharon, who is helping to develop the film with the couple’s son, Jack, reveals the project will be R-rated, because no one wants to water down the former Black Sabbath star’s crazy life.
“It’s not like any other story,” she says. “It’s not like, ‘rock & roll, crazy, and now I’m a granddad!’ It’s so much more than that.”
Sharon insists Ozzy’s biopic will be nothing like “Bohemian Rhapsody”, which chronicled the lives of Freddie Mercury and his Queen bandmates.
“I get why they did that, because it was for a younger generation,” she says. “It was squeaky clean… and it turned a whole generation onto Queen’s music that had never heard (it) before. So with that, it was phenomenal. But I don’t think it was a great movie… It was made ‘nice’ and that’s what made it a (Christian TV network) Hallmark movie.”
“Our film will be a lot more real,” Sharon adds. “We don’t want it to be squeaky, shiny clean and all of that. We’re not making it for kids. It’s an adult movie for adults.”
“I hope it will be a story that everybody can relate to. You don’t have to be a fan of the music, because it’s a story about a survivor. No matter what life throws at you, you pick yourself up and you start again. It’s just an amazing story of overcoming everything that’s thrown at you in your life.”
Meanwhile, Jack Osbourne tells Rolling Stone, “We have a writer. We said to go from 1979 to 1996. I can’t say too much, but the film is an active development.”
And Ozzy adds, “From what I understand, it’s about (wife and manager) Sharon and I and our relationship; it’s how we met, fell in love, and how we married. She’s my other half. She grew up a lot with me, and I grew up a lot with her… Sharon wants to get an unknown actor (to portray me).”
Meanwhile, Ozzy’s life will also be the subject of an upcoming TV documentary, “Biography: The Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne”, which Jack produced. It will premiere on America’s A&E network on 7 September (20).

  • Orlando Bloom Goes Naked in New Movie to Explore Trauma of Sexual Abuse

    Saban Films

The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor explains that his nude scenes in upcoming film ‘Retaliation’ are ‘required’ to explore the damage done due to sexual abuse.
    Aug 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Orlando Bloom hopes fans can look beyond the nudity in his new movie “Retaliation” and understand the lasting trauma of childhood sexual abuse.
The 43-year-old actor appears as Malky, an adult victim of childhood sexual abuse who confronts the horrors of his past, in the movie, which premiered at the 2017 Edinburgh International Film Festival as Romans and is now available digitally and on demand in the U.S. under its new title.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, however, Orlando insisted the scenes were “really just what was required,” adding, “I didn’t think about the nudity aspect. I just thought about what was required in the moment to get the job done.”
“We talked about the shots and the nudity aspect and how it served the character and the truth of the moment,” the “Carnival Row” star shared. “I was focused more on that and obviously, I put a lot of trust in the directors, who were new and young, and had the greatest sincerity. They knew the writer very well, and their approach to the material was with real sensitivity and care. So, I felt I was serving the moment more than I was thinking about the fact that there was nudity.”
Orlando continued, “With the sex, you see very clear how damaged Malky is, and how his damage plays out in the relationships in his life, particularly with women. His fear of intimacy, his fear of closeness, the animalistic way with which he approaches sex, and the shame around that, it’s all very palpable in the script.”
“It’s very clear to me what was required, and then a lot of what I had gleaned from different organisations that I spoke to about male sexual abuse, it was reading up around it and researching around it. You can understand how and why people do things the way they do.”
