    WENN

During a Twitter chat with fans, James Gunn admits he tried to bring Linda Cardellini’s character out of the closet in the 2002 film, but Warner Bros. executives didn’t like the idea.
    Jul 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Movie bosses blocked “Scooby-Doo” screenwriter James Gunn’s plans to bring beloved fictional sleuth Velma out of the closet.
The filmmaker made the big reveal during a recent Twitter chat with fans, explaining he wanted Linda Cardellini’s character to be a lesbian in the 2002 film, but Warner Bros. executives didn’t like the idea.

James Gunn reacted to fan’s request to make Velma a lesbian.
“In 2001 Velma was explicitly gay in my initial script. But the studio kept watering it down & watering it down, becoming ambiguous ( the version shot), then nothing (the released version) & finally having a boyfriend (the sequel).”

  • Oliver Stone Deems Donald Trump 'Fascinating Dramatic Character' for a Movie

    WENN

While sharing his thought on him doing a movie about the 45th president, the ‘Platoon’ filmmaker insists that he does not see the novel coronavirus as an existential threat to the world.
    Jul 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Oliver Stone is considering making a movie about U.S. President Donald Trump.
The “Platoon” filmmaker previously took another much maligned American leader, George W. Bush, to task on screen in 2008’s “W.” – and feels Trump would be an even more fascinating protagonist for a film.
“There’s nothing that could quite capture this fellow,” he tells British newspaper The Sunday Times. “He’s quite a whirlwind, a fascinating dramatic character. Shakespearean too, in the sense that he’s so emotional – at times he creates a storm, almost purposely every day, to keep the energy going. He creates a storm inside himself. He’s King Lear in a strange way too – which daughter loves me more?”
Although Trump has faced heavy criticism for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic – with the country one of the worst affected in the world – Stone is unbothered by the virus, saying the real crisis is another issue the President has expressed scepticism about – climate change.
“The virus seems to me the ongoing business of history. It’s just… there’s so many viruses,” he adds. “I don’t see it as an existential threat to the world. It’s more of a mood thing. No, I think the real issue is global warming.”

  • 'Avengers: Endgame' Directors Agree With Anthony Mackie on Lack of Diversity in Marvel

    WENN

Anthony and Joe Russo respond to the Falcon depicter, saying he is not wrong about the lack of diversity in Marvel and agreeing that they ‘can always all do better.’
    Jul 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Avengers: Endgame” directors Anthony and Joe Russo accept they have to work harder on diversity issues after coming under fire from one of their leading men, Anthony Mackie.
The brothers admit the actor was spot on when he called out Marvel movie bosses for failing to create roles for black actors and crew members, telling Variety last month (Jun20) he has mostly worked with all-white crews on the seven blockbusters, in which he has portrayed Sam Wilson and his alter ego, Falcon.
“It really bothered me that I’ve done seven Marvel movies where every producer, every director, every stunt person, every costume designer, every PA, every single person has been white,” Mackie said, noting that the only Marvel film to feature a large black cast and crew was “Black Panther”.
“If you only can hire the black people for the black movie… are you saying they’re not good enough when you have a mostly-white cast?” Mackie asked.
And his “Endgame” directors are backing his outburst – Joe Russo tells MovieMaker, “I think we can always all do better at diversity, constantly in this business, and in every facet of every industry – so he’s not wrong at all. I think that we all have to work harder to keep endorsing and supporting diversity on both sides of the camera.”
Brother Anthony adds, “We have a ton of respect for Anthony Mackie. He is not only an amazing actor, but he’s an amazing person, and we’ve loved our collaboration with him.”

    WENN

The ‘Vampire Diaries’ star congratulates Dwayne Johnson and asks to be in the next movie as the former wrestler is celebrating ‘Jumanji: The Next Level’ milestone.
    Jul 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – Dwayne Johnson was celebrating on Wednesday (08Jul20), following the news that his movie sequel “Jumanji: The Next Level” has passed the $800 million (£640 million) mark in worldwide box office takings.
Sharing an article from Deadline about the milestone, Johnson, also known as The Rock, wrote on his Instagram page, “This was a nice surprising call to get this morning. JUMANJI’s still going strong.”
“First of all, THANK YOU. Secondly, I’m always grateful to see our JUMANJI having that unique, fun magic and mana for families around the (world) to enjoy. Our entire team will work even harder to make the next JUMANJI the best one yet. #showmeyoursmolder.”

While it has yet to be confirmed whether or not a third movie in the franchise will be made, the ending of the last film leaves things open for a further tale, and Dwayne’s post seems to hint things are looking positive for a follow-up.
And “The Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder will be front and centre if there’s a casting call for the next movie.
Responding to Johnson’s Instagram post about the “Jumanji” success, he replied, “Congrats man! Umm, can I be in the next one?!”

  • 'Jurassic World: Dominion' NOT Shutting Down Production Amid Reports of Crew's COVID-19 Diagnoses

    Universal Pictures

Universal Pictures denies reports that the movie production is suffering another shutdown due to positive COVID-19 tests among the crew, just days after filming resumed in the U.K.
    Jul 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Jurassic World: Dominion” is not shutting down production again amid reports of its crew’s COVID-19 diagnoses. Universal Pictures has spoken up to deny the news which claimed that filming was halted again, just days after the movie resumed production in the U.K., after several crew members tested positive for the disease.
“Universal Pictures Any reports indicating that ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ has halted production are categorically untrue,” said a Universal spokesperson. “The production is in its fifth day of shooting today, and we’re thrilled to be back in front of the camera on this incredible project.”
The studio, however, didn’t address the claim about the crew members who tested positive for coronavirus.
Earlier on Friday, July 10, rumors began circulating among U.K.’s tabloids that more than one crew member had tested positive after production resumed on July 6 at the Pinewood Studios. A source told The Sun, “This was the last thing anyone expected so soon. Everyone was excited about getting things back up and running on set but this has totally derailed that. There are millions and millions of pounds at stake here. Nobody wants more long delays.”
As a result, producers, who have put in place stringent testing and measures aimed at keeping the set safe, were reportedly holding crisis talks.
At the same time, Sam Neill, who has flown to England from New Zealand for the movie production, said that he has voluntarily gone into a 14-day quarantine before joining the cast and crew on the set. “I feel it’s incumbent upon me to do so,” he told The Guardian. “It’s only fair.”
The production on “Jurassic World: Dominion” had kicked off in February and moved to England in March, before it was shut down due to the coronavirus outbreak. As the British government has waived quarantine restrictions for those working on major Hollywood productions in the country, the production on the “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” sequel was scheduled to restart in July. Earlier this month, lead actor Chris Pratt confirmed he has been back at work to film the movie after months in quarantine.
Also starring Bryce Dallas Howard and original stars Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, the third “Jurassic World” movie has Colin Trevorrow returning as director. The movie is set for a June 21, 2021 release in the United States.

  • Vivica A. Fox Would Love to See Zendaya in 'Kill Bill' Reboot

    WENN

The original Vernita Green depicter tips the ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ leading lady to portray her onscreen daughter in the rumored upcoming movie remake.
    Jul 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Vivica A. Fox wants Zendaya to play her onscreen daughter in the much rumoured “Kill Bill” reboot.
The actress, who played Vernita Green in the 2003 movie, shared last month (Jun20) that director Quentin Tarantino and her co-star Uma Thurman were in talks over a return to the franchise, and was later asked who she thinks should play her daughter.
“I haven’t got any official word… I had a feeling that hopefully (Tarantino) was waiting on (the actress who plays) my daughter to grow up a little bit,” Fox explained to NME.
“But then I was doing an interview and they asked ‘What young actress would you get to play your daughter?’ and I was like ‘No, Ambrosia (Kelley)!’ but they meant an established actress,” she added, referring to the young actress who played her daughter Nikki in the first film.
And when prompted for her views on recasting the role, Fox revealed she already had someone in mind
“So I went, Zendaya! How hot would that be? And that would probably green light this project. Because her and Uma are both very tall, and it would just be kick-butt, and I love her,” she smiled. “Hopefully now we can put that out, like ‘Tarantino, cast Zendaya!’ And spark his interest to put it on the fast track. Wouldn’t it be amazing?”
While she’s happy to consider new names for her onscreen daughter, the 55 year old, currently starring in movie “Arkansas”, isn’t so keen to see someone else play Vernita.
“I’d get on the phone with my agent immediately, making sure that I could be a part of it,” she insisted. “Tarantino has a great way of figuring out how to bring a character back even if they died, in a flashback or something. People have been waiting, and I’m in the waiting line too!”

  • 'Chicken Run' Star Julia Sawalha Accuses Producers of Ageism Following 'Unfair' Firing From Sequel

    Instagram

The voice of Ginger in the first ‘Chicken Run’ movie is ‘devastated and furious’ after finding out she will be replaced by a younger actress in the upcoming sequel.
    Jul 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Julia Sawalha has been left “devastated and furious” after “Chicken Run 2” bosses told her they were enlisting a “younger actress” to voice her character in the movie sequel.
The 51-year-old screen star voiced the main character Ginger in the animated 2000 movie, alongside a voice cast also including Mel Gibson, Imelda Staunton, and Timothy Spall.
However, while a follow-up film has been greenlit for Netflix, Julia has been told she won’t be required to reprise her role for the new movie, because her voice sounds “too old.”
In a lengthy post on Twitter, Julia wrote, “Last week I was informed out of the blue, via email, through my agent that I would not be cast as Ginger in the Chicken Run sequel. The reason they gave is that my voice now sounds ‘too old’ and they want a younger actress to reprise the role.”
“Usually in these circumstances, an actress would be given the chance to do a voice test in order to determine the suitability of their pitch and tone, I however was not given this opportunity.”
Insisting she’s “passionate” about her work and doesn’t “go down without a fight,” Julia decided to do her own voice test at home, which she sent to the producers and also shared on her Twitter post.
But her bid wasn’t enough to make the “creatives” reconsider their decision as she explained, “Today I received a very kind and thoughtfully written response from one of the creatives, outlining their decision, most notably saying ‘Some of the voices (not yours, I agree) definitely sound older’. However, they stated ‘We will be going ahead to re-cast the voice of Ginger.’ ”

The explanation didn’t sit well with Julia, who alleged she was “unfairly dismissed” from the production, which is also recasting Rocky – originally voiced by Gibson.
“To say I am devastated and furious would be an understatement,” she concluded. “I feel totally powerless, something in all of this doesn’t quite ring true. I trust my instincts and they are waving red flags.”
“I am saddened that I have lost the chance to work with Nick Park and Peter Lord from whom I learnt so much. The three of us, together, created Ginger.”
“Today I responded by wishing the production the best of luck and the greatest success with the sequel. There is nothing more I can do, other than to thank all of you who loved and still love Chicken Run, as I do. I’m off for the chop now, Ginger x.”

  • 'Jurassic World: Dominion' Star Sam Neill Self-Isolating After Crew Test Positive for Covid-19

    Instagram

Rumor has it, the coronavirus outbreak among the crew members has prompted producers to hold crisis talks as the movie resumes production in the United Kingdom.
    Jul 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Sam Neill has voluntarily gone into quarantine after entering the U.K. to film “Jurassic World: Dominion”, amid reports members of the crew have tested positive for Covid-19.
The British government has waived quarantine restrictions for those working on major Hollywood productions in the country in a bid to let productions get underway as quickly as possible this month (Jul20).
However, Sam says he is still spending 14 days in quarantine, despite travelling from largely Covid-free New Zealand due to his sense of fair play.
“I feel it’s incumbent upon me to do so,” he tells The Guardian. “It’s only fair.”
His decision comes amid a report that members of the crew have tested positive for the virus ahead of shooting at Pinewood Studios, potentially putting a quick start to filming in jeopardy.
A source tells The Sun, “This was the last thing anyone expected so soon. Everyone was excited about getting things back up and running on set but this has totally derailed that. There are millions and millions of pounds at stake here. Nobody wants more long delays.”
As a result, producers, who have put in place stringent testing and measures aimed at keeping the set safe, are reportedly holding crisis talks.
Sam, who has delighted fans with social media videos posted from his farm in New Zealand during lockdown reveals to The Guardian that the crisis has put things in perspective – even if he thinks world leaders haven’t handled matters well.
“The full-blown crisis was strangely energising,” he adds. “I’ve spoken to people who are missing lockdown; they liked being at home, and now we’re in this no man’s land where no one knows, and we’re getting mixed messages from people in charge. There’s the human impulse to think: ‘Well, that’s done and dusted.’ And, of course, it isn’t.”
“Jurassic World: Dominion”, which also stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Jeff Goldblum, is due for release next June.
