  • 'Mission: Impossible VII' and 'The Batman' Get Thumbs Up to Resume U.K. Production

    Paramount Pictures/Warner Bros.

British Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden has announced the quarantine exemption for small numbers of essential cast and crew to help the screen industries bounce back from COVID-19 pandemic.
    Jul 6, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tom Cruise’s new “Mission: Impossible” action blockbuster and Robert Pattinson’s highly-anticipated debut as Batman are among the projects given the green light to resume filming in the U.K.
Both “Mission: Impossible VII” and “The Batman” were in the midst of production in March when the coronavirus pandemic began, forcing a global industry shutdown.
Cruise was recently revealed to have flown to England in the hopes of getting back to work soon, and on Sunday, July 5, British Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden announced he had personally spoken to the Hollywood star, and would be allowing filming to continue once more as they would be exempt from quarantine travel restrictions, introduced to curb the spread of COVID-19.
As part of the exemption, cast and crewmembers must abide by rules to remain in a “bubble” environment, staying in and around the production area for the duration of the shoot.
“The world’s biggest blockbusters and high-end TV shows are made in Britain,” Dowden said at a press conference.
“Our creativity, expertise and highly successful tax reliefs for our screen industries means that we are an in-demand location that in turn delivers a great return for our economy. We want the industry to bounce back and exempting small numbers of essential cast and crew from quarantine is part of our continued commitment to getting cameras rolling safely again.”
Other major projects set to move into production or continue filming as a result of the ruling include “Jurassic World: Dominion”, “Fantastic Beasts 3”, and the live action Disney remakes of “Cinderella (2021)” and “The Little Mermaid (2020)”.

  • Tom Hanks Hopes to Get Back Filming Baz Luhrmann's Elvis Presley Biopic in October

    WENN

The untitled project was in pre-production back in March when its Queensland shooting was shut down after the actor and his wife, Rita Wilson, both tested positive for the coronavirus.
    Jul 6, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tom Hanks is expecting to head back to work in Australia in October to resume production on his Elvis Presley biopic.
The currently-untitled project, in which Hanks will play Elvis’ manager Colonel Tom Parker, had been in pre-production back in March, when the Queensland shoot was shut down after the actor and his wife, Rita Wilson, both tested positive for the coronavirus.
They were briefly hospitalised and quarantined while they recovered, before returning to their home base of Los Angeles, where they have been donating plasma to help medical researchers find a cure.
Last month, the film’s director, Baz Luhrmann, was revealed to be in advanced discussions with Australian government officials about a restart date following the nation’s lockdown measures to curb the spread of COVID-19, and now Hanks has revealed they are aiming to resume filming in three months, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.
“There is certainly a plan and a desire from the studio’s perspective and from everybody else involved in the movie to figure out a way to make it happen,” Hanks explained in a video call.
“There are dates on the calendar that say maybe we will be making this movie in October, but all of that stuff is a ‘maybe’ as questions about quarantine and temperatures and sterilising soundstages and all of that go on.”
However, it’s not clear if Hanks will be on set when cameras are allowed to start rolling again, as the country’s borders are likely to remain closed to travellers from overseas for “quite some distance off”, according to Australian Trade Minister Simon Birmingham.
The Luhrmann film will also feature Austin Butler as Elvis.
Hanks’ remarks emerge as New Zealand’s Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment officials granted travel ban exemptions to cast and crewmembers working on the upcoming TV adaptation of “The Lord of the Rings”, and Robert Downey Jr.’s “Sweet Tooth” comic book series, as well as Netflix’s “Cowboy Bebop” project with John Cho.
Permits had already been issued to those working on James Cameron’s “Avatar” sequels, and Jane Campion’s “The Power of the Dog”, set to star Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, and Jesse Plemons, which had been in production prior to the coronavirus pandemic.

    Jul 5, 2020
AceShowbiz – Brie Larson opened up on her battle with social anxiety in her first-ever YouTube video.
The “Captain Marvel” star welcomed viewers to her page on Thursday (02Jul20) when she shared clips of video conversations she’s had with friends, family members, and other YouTube personalities, from whom she sought advice and content ideas for the new project.
During her 21-minute-video debut, titled “So, I made a decision…”, Larson opened up about how taking the titular role in the hit superhero movie helped improve her mental health.
“For me, my baseline has been I’m an introvert with asthma. That’s been my story for myself. I’m introverted, I’m scared, I have social anxiety,” she admitted.
“And through, in particular, playing Captain Marvel, that kind of wiped clean those titles I had for myself and made me go, ‘Whoa, I’m not really that anymore.’ ”
Since joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Larson admitted that she’s found “speaking out, telling my story, talking about the things that I’m scared of has helped” her a great deal.

  • Scott Eastwood Filming War Movie 'The Outpost' With Broken Ankle

    Screen Media Films

The ‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ actor reveals he was struggling to walk because of his injured ankle when he began the filming of his new movie directed by Rod Lurie.
    Jul 5, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actor Scott Eastwood gave director Rod Lurie a filming headache at the start of production on “The Outpost” after a broken ankle left him unable to walk.
The “Pacific Rim Uprising” star hasn’t revealed how he sustained the injury, but surgeons managed to fix the issue with a pair of screws.
However, as his recovery coincided with the start of the new Afghanistan war movie, Lurie had to rework his scheduling plans because Eastwood was basically crippled.
“(Lurie had a) tough as hell time trying to figure out how we were gonna design shots where for the first few weeks I couldn’t walk,” Clint Eastwood’s son told The Associated Press of the “interesting” shoot.
The “Straw Dogs” filmmaker ended up delaying the action sequences to the latter part of production, and he’s really impressed by how quickly Eastwood managed to bounce back.
“When you see Scott Eastwood in this movie, running and gunning, you gotta remember this dude has got a broken ankle and he’s a bit of a stud. Just like his dad,” Lurie quipped.
“The Outpost” chronicles the exploits of a unit of U.S. soldiers battling Taliban forces at the remote Combat Outpost Keating. The conflict, known as the Battle of Kamdesh, was the bloodiest of the Afghan War in 2009.
The movie is based on CNN journalist Jake Tapper’s book, “The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor”, and is set for release digitally at the end of July (20).

  • Henry Cavill Admits to Googling About Superman Rumors, Would Love to Reprise His Role

    Warner Bros. Pictures

The ‘Man of Steel’ actor reveals that he likes to go on the internet to see what fans have to say about his possible return as the DC superhero in a new movie.
    Jul 5, 2020
AceShowbiz – Henry Cavill can’t keep up with the Internet speculation about his alleged return to the role of Superman because the rumours “get wilder and wilder.”
The 37 year old, who last played the Man of Steel in 2017’s “Justice League”, likes to check in online to see what fans have to say about his chances of pulling on the tights and cape again – and sometimes even he can’t believe what he’s reading.
“They (posts) get wilder and wilder by the day,” he marvels on a new episode of Variety and iHeart podcast “The Big Ticket”. “The amount of speculation, the stuff I read on the Internet, is extraordinary and sometimes frustrating. It’s when you see people stating stuff as fact. Like, ‘No, that’s not the case. That hasn’t happened, and that conversation isn’t happening.”
“But the important thing is that people are excited about it, and I think it’s important to be excited about a character like Superman. Superman is a fantastic character. If people are chatting about it, and even if they’re making stuff up, it’s okay, because that means they want to see the character again.”
Like the fans, Henry would like to see himself as Superman once more. “I would absolutely love to play the character again,” he adds, admitting sometimes he’s tempted to add his own posts to the online speculation about the superhero’s next film or TV appearance.
“I’m not going to lie, I’ve been very tempted (to comment), but there’s something about that, that feels deeply immoral,” he admits. “When it’s about Superman, and if I’m representing Superman, it just feels like the wrong thing to do.”

  • 'The Outpost' Helmer Defends Casting Celebrity Offspring: Nobody Is Picked Because of Their Parents

    Screen Media Films

The director Rod Lurie talks about having celebrity offspring in his upcoming war movie, insisting everybody was chosen because they are really talented.
    Jul 5, 2020
AceShowbiz – Filmmaker Rod Lurie is still pinching himself after landing the sons and grandsons of some of the world’s most famous and beloved celebrities for his new war film “The Outpost”.
The director insists he never set out to make a movie with names like Jagger, Eastwood, Alda, Attenborough, and Gibson, but that’s the way casting came together.
The film, starring Orlando Bloom and Scott Eastwood, features the grandsons of Alan Alda and Richard Attenborough, and Mick Jagger and Mel Gibson’s boys.
“The poster should read: ‘Eastwood, Gibson, Jagger, Attenborough!'” Lurie quips. “It was extremely unintentional; nobody was picked because of their dad, although I met Scott Alda Coffey because I had worked with his grandpa in Nothing But the Truth and a couple of films after.”
“Alan asked me to meet with him (Scott) and I found out that he’s a dogsitter, and so he became my dogsitter. I also discovered what a great actor he was and we cast him in the role of Michael Scusa.”
The film will be released digitally at the end of July (20).

  • Lin-Manuel Miranda Accused of Romanticizing Slave Owners With 'Hamilton'

    Disney+

The ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ actor locks his social media as his new movie debuts on streaming site and receives mixed reactions as it gets criticized for glorifying slave owners.
    Jul 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – Lin-Manuel Miranda has locked his Twitter account after “Hamilton” debuted on Disney+.
The singer/songwriter and actor debuted the film version of his Broadway smash on the streaming platform on Friday (03Jul20) and, following the release, went private on on the social media site.
Celebrating the premiere, Miranda participated in a live-tweeting party with fans and the rest of the cast from 7 pm until 10 pm ET, shortly after which he locked his account.
In his final public post, the star signed off, saying, “Thank you for tonight. I’m so grateful you just have the whole thing now. With this extraordinary company and crew. It’s yours.”
While he didn’t give a solid explanation as to why he quit the platform, fans have speculated it may be due to backlash online over the musical’s focus on a group of men that were slave owners, with some people calling the show racist for glorifying the people in history.
Miranda previously insisted “Hamilton” has taken on a whole new significance in the wake of Black Lives Matter protests across the U.S. and worldwide.
“There’s nothing new about what’s happening,” he told WSJ magazine. “It’s been interesting to see the different things that pop up, because I was trying to tell this specific story, but I was grabbing from the America I know. So it all hits in different ways, based on where America is.”

  • Mike Tyson Unaware He Made a Cameo in 'The Hangover' Due to This Reason

    WENN

Talking about his special appearance in the 2009 comedy film, the former boxing champion recalls meeting Zach Galifianakis and a co-star at a Las Vegas club randomly the night before the shooting.
    Jul 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – Mike Tyson was drunk and high on cocaine throughout his entire cameo in “The Hangover”.
The former boxing champion almost didn’t make it to the set of the 2009 comedy film, because he was too intoxicated to remember his appearance in the movie, until he met Zach Galifianakis and other co-stars at a club in Las Vegas randomly the night before the shoot.
“I met the guys in a club, they were in the VIP section and I said, ‘This is where I normally sit, nobody’s normally here,’ ” he recalled during a recent interview with self-help guru Tony Robbins. “So I went in there, I’m checking these guys to see what they’re doing in my section. It was Zach, the other guy, and he said, ‘We’re going to be in a movie with you’ and I said, ‘Yeah? When?’ And he said, ‘Tomorrow.’ ”
“And I didn’t know as I was drinking and smoking back then, doing drugs so I didn’t know I was involved in the movie. So eventually I had to go and do the movie and it was a success.”

Mike also made an appearance in the 2011 follow-up “The Hangover Part II”. He has been sober for a decade.
