  • Broadway to Remain Closed Until January 2021 as Result of Ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic

Board chairman Thomas Schumacher announces the decision to write off the rest of 2020 as COVID-19 cases are on the rise again following a number of state re-openings.
    Jun 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – Broadway theatres will stay dark for the remainder of the year as a result of the continued coronavirus pandemic.
Bosses at the Broadway League trade organisation, which represents theatre owners and producers, have decided to write off the rest of 2020 as COVID-19 cases in the U.S. are on the rise again following a number of state re-openings.
“The Great White Way” closures are now expected to last until at least 3 January (21), marking the fourth time the shutdown has been extended since all performances were put on pause in mid-March.

“The safety of our cast, crew, orchestra and audience is our highest priority and we look forward to returning to our stages only when it’s safe to do so,” Broadway League board chairman Thomas Schumacher shared in a statement.
“One thing is for sure, when we return we will be stronger and more needed than ever.”
The news emerges days after the opening of Hugh Jackman’s highly-anticipated production of “The Music Man” was officially pushed back from October to May 2021, with previews beginning in April.
The Broadway blackout had already caused the cancellation of two prominent new productions – Martin McDonagh’s “Hangmen”, with Dan Stevens, and Edward Albee’s “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”, starring Laurie Metcalf – which had been in previews when the shutdown first occurred. Producers subsequently confirmed they will not return once the suspension ends.

  • Peter Sarsgaard Shares Initial Worry About Intense Character for 'The Batman'

    WENN

Starring opposite Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz in director Matt Reeves’ upcoming superhero movie, the ‘Loving Pablo’ actor will be seen as Gotham City District Attorney Gil Colson.
    Jun 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Peter Sarsgaard has found his role as Gotham City District Attorney Gil Colson in “The Batman” “intense” to film.
The 49-year-old actor spoke to Britain’s The Observer newspaper about working on the movie, also starring Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz, prior to its shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reflecting on his role, he shared, “My part is very intense. On a big show like that my main concern was that I would have to do it 150 times – this intense scene and then that intense scene.”
“My character is at nine out of 10 for a lot of it,” he explained, “That was going through my head a lot, like ‘How do I maintain this?’ ”
Despite his initial concerns, Sarsgaard gushed over his experience on set, and admitted he feels like he’s in “great hands” with director Matt Reeves.
“The bigger something is the harder it is to keep it pure in terms of vision. And honestly, with Matt Reeves, on ‘The Batman’, he can do it,” he shared. “It’s just such a spectacle. Even on set it’s kind of amazing to see the total professionalism of everyone in their jobs. It’s all the best people at everything.”
“The Batman” is due for release on October 1, 2021.

  • Anthony Mackie Calls Marvel 'Racist' for Lack of Black Filmmakers in MCU Franchise

    WENN

The Falcon depicter criticizes Marvel bosses for hiring predominantly white filmmakers for their superhero movies and having black filmmakers only for ‘Black Panther’.
    Jun 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Anthony Mackie has taken aim at his Marvel film bosses for failing to include black filmmakers in any of their movies.
The actor, who has starred in several Marvel films as Falcon, will reprise the role in Disney+’s upcoming “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, but that hasn’t stopped him shining a light on racism at the top.
During a new conversation with actor Daveed Diggs for Variety, Mackie says, “It really bothered me that I’ve done seven Marvel movies where every producer, every director, every stunt person, every costume designer, every PA, every single person has been white.”
“We’ve had one Black producer; his name was Nate Moore. He produced Black Panther. But then when you do Black Panther, you have a black director, black producer, a black costume designer, a black stunt choreographer. And I’m like, that’s more racist than anything else. Because if you only can hire the black people for the black movie, are you saying they’re not good enough when you have a mostly white cast?”
But Mackie doesn’t want Marvel bosses giving anyone preferential treatment in the future, insisting, “Hire the best person for the job, even if it means we’re going to get the best two women, we’re going to get the best two men. Fine. I’m cool with those numbers for the next 10 years because it starts to build a new generation of people who can put something on their resume to get them other jobs. If we’ve got to divvy out as a percentage, divvy it out. And that’s something as leading men that we can go in and push for.”

  • Joseph Fiennes to Lead True-Story Movie 'The Ice Man'

    WENN

The ‘American Horror Story: Asylum’ actor has boarded the upcoming feature film about extreme sportsman Wim Hof as a main actor and executive producer.
    Jun 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Joseph Fiennes has been cast as extreme winter sportsman Wim Hof in new biographical feature, “The Ice Man”.
The actor is over the moon about depicting the Dutch star, who is famous for breaking cold exposure records by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in shorts and running a half-marathon barefoot above the Arctic Circle among other stunts.
“To carry the incredible Wim Hof message and to bring the extraordinary journey of the Ice Man to the greater consciousness is a unique privilege,” Fiennes tells The Hollywood Reporter.
“The Ice Man”, a working title, is written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Jeff Pope, who was moved to pen a script about the 61-year-old Dutch athlete’s remarkable accomplishments, which also references the development of his famous Wim Hof Method (WHM) breathing technique.
“Wim is like an iceberg,” writer Pope gushes. “There’s a little bit we all know about him poking above the water – the bit that tells us to ‘breathe, motherfu**er’, but there is so much more to his story that this project will explore. His has been a life full of tragedy, exploration, perseverance and, ultimately, redemption. Now is the right moment for Wim-time.”
“The Ice Man” will be produced by Debbie Gray, with Fiennes and Pope on board as executive producers.
