  • Amanda Seyfried: There Are Not Enough ABBA Songs for 'Mamma Mia! 3'

    Universal Pictures

The ‘Red Riding Hood’ actress would love to return for a third ‘Mamma Mia!’ big-screen adaptation but she doesn’t think there are enough songs for another movie.
    Jun 23, 2020
AceShowbiz – Amanda Seyfried would “say yes in a heartbeat” to starring in “Mamma Mia! 3”, but doesn’t think it will ever happen because “there aren’t enough ABBA songs to make a third movie.”
The 34-year-old actress played Sophie in 2008’s “Mamma Mia!” and its 2018 follow-up, “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again”. And after producer Judy Craymer recently revealed she was considering making the films into a trilogy, Amanda weighed in on the possibility in an interview with Collider.
Reflecting on the idea of a third film, Amanda said, “Listen, every single person in that movie would say yes in a heartbeat because we want to hang out with each other. That’s what we talked about last time, like, ‘Did we ever think that we’d end up here again on an Island in Croatia?’ ”
“So yeah, I wish there was a Mamma Mia! 3, but I’ll tell you what – I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again and I hope I’m wrong again,” Amanda admitted. “I don’t think there are enough ABBA songs to make a third movie. Because we’d have to use Super Trooper again and we’d have to use Mamma Mia again and have to use them in a different way.”
While Meryl Streep starred as Sophie’s mum Donna in the first film, the second centred on Sophie’s life following her mother’s death, and featured flashbacks of a young Donna – played by Lily James. And while Donna’s passing came as a huge shock to fans, Amanda maintains it was the best option, because it opened the storyline up in more ways than one.
“Well, it’s a better story, because they had something to grow on,” she said of the sequel. “Like the first story had to match the stage show. So it was like, they were kind of stuck. With the second story, it could have been anything. Having Meryl’s character die kind of gave us so many good storylines.”
“It was kind of a genius idea because you’re like, no, we don’t want to lose her. But at the same time, look at what you can do, you can go back. And Lily James can play young Meryl. It was just perfect. It was so well written.”

  • Steve Buscemi Praised for Bringing Authenticity to 'The King of Staten Island'

    Universal Pictures

Director Judd Apatow and cast members Pete Davidson and Bill Burr have opend up about their experience working with the former firefighter-turned-actor in the semi-biography film.
    Jun 22, 2020
AceShowbiz – Judd Apatow and his “The King of Staten Island” cast realised they’d struck gold by landing former firefighter Steve Buscemi for the film, because he brought such authenticity to the set.
The movie, a semi-biography of comedian Pete Davidson’s life, deals with a lost 20-something trying to come to terms with the death of his fireman father, and Buscemi plays a veteran firefighter.
The stars of the film and Apatow knew they were making magic when Buscemi was on set for firehouse scenes, because he served as a firefighter in New York in the 1980s and he returned to volunteer with the force after the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the Big Apple.
Comedian Bill Burr, who also portrays a fireman in the film, says, “You know when you’re watching a pro. The way Steve did it, the muscle memory was there.”
Davidson adds, “Steve crushed it, and the fact that he was also a fireman made it special. That man is so sweet he makes me cry looking at his face.”
And director Apatow insists the “Reservoir Dogs” star “was not acting, he was venting”.
Burr also enjoyed spending time at a real fire station, hanging out with film consultant John Sorrentino, who was a close friend of Davidson’s late father in real life.
“One of the first things we did was go to Pete’s dad’s firehouse (in Brooklyn Heights),” Bill explains. “That was super emotional. We went downstairs and there was all this 9/11 memorabilia, and I thought about how they had lost so many guys in that firehouse. I remember John Sorrentino going, ‘Alright, it’s been long enough I can talk about it now’.”
“I thought, ‘There is no way I’m going to do this justice. Do they realise who they hired?’ I was very humbled and nervous.”
Davidson’s father, Scott, died on 9/11 in 2001 when Pete was only seven.

  • Tiffany Haddish Gets Candid About Why She Passed on Role in Chris Rock's 'Top Five'

    WENN

In a new interview, the ‘Girls Trip’ actress additionally admits that despite her considerable career success, she is still receiving offers to play insulting roles in poorly written movies.
    Jun 22, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tiffany Haddish isn’t prepared to take on subpar roles in poorly written movies.
The “Girls Trip” star, who runs her own production company She Ready, told The Hollywood Reporter she’d rather develop projects for herself than sign up for the often insulting roles that come her way, despite her considerable career success.
The 40-year-old admits she is still receiving offers to play “the mama who’s been through something, whose kid ends up being hurt in some way and fighting for justice. And the baby’s sick or I’m trying to get out of jail.”
“I’m not doing that. I know people who live that, I’m not doing it. Unless it’s super, super good. The writing has to be impeccable. A lot of times it’s telling these stories that could be powerful, but the writing (turns out to be) garbage.”
The actress also explained why she passed on a role in 2014 film “Top Five”, written and directed by Chris Rock, and starring the comedian alongside Rosario Dawson and Cedric the Entertainer.
“You know, when I first hit the scene, I was offered a lot of roles where they want you to expose your breasts,” she recalled. “I remember that movie that Chris Rock did and it’s like he meets the two girls and they have a threesome and then Cedric gets in there and he’s supposed to ‘blah’ all over their faces – just let that baby batter go all up in their face.”
“It was like, ‘Tiffany, they’re offering you the role.’ And I was like, ‘I don’t want that role. I’m a stand-up comedian and I don’t let people do that in my face in real life, so why would I do it in this movie?’,” she insisted. “Like, you ought to have a little bit of respect for me, period. God made this face for a reason, and you’re not going to disrespect it.”
Tiffany added: “If it is against my morals – and I do have some, I know I’m a little wild, but I do have standards – then somebody might get fired… So my people, we have weekly conversations about where I’m at mentally, what I want to do. And right now, almost everything I’m doing, I’m producing.”

  • Sofia Coppola Reunites With Kirsten Dunst and Josh Hartnett to Mark 'Virgin Suicides' Anniversary

    WENN

The female filmmaker has a reunion with the cast members of her teen cult classic to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 2000 movie adaptation of Jeffrey Eugenides’ book.
    Jun 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – Director Sofia Coppola has reunited with “The Virgin Suicides” cast to honour the 20th anniversary of the teen cult classic.
The filmmaker was prompted to write the script for the 2000 film because she couldn’t bear the thought of another moviemaker destroying the onscreen adaptation of the book – a fact she brought up during the reunion, hosted by Entertainment Weekly.
“I loved that book, and I heard they (Hollywood producers) were going to make a movie of it, and I hoped that they didn’t mess it up – as that happens sometimes with books that you love,” she recalled. “I just had an idea of how I thought they should make it into a movie, so I thought I would try to learn how to write a screenplay. I started working on one just as a kind of practice. I thought I would just do a few chapters.”
Sofia eventually convinced the original producers to greenlight her script to make the low-budget movie, which marked her directorial debut and featured classic performances from stars Kirsten Dunst and Josh Hartnett.
During the chat Sofia revealed she claimed a wig Josh wore in character as the film’s heartthrob Trip Fontaine as a trinket from the set.
“It’s in my storage! It was probably not the best quality wig, but it worked,” she noted while Josh chuckled reflecting on his experience filming scenes in the hairpiece. “I forgot about what a pain in the a** the wig was,” he laughed.
Leading lady Kirsten, who shared a steamy kiss with Josh in the film, also had fond memories of the wig, particularly in the scene when her character jumped into Trip’s car.
“The lights in the house would go off, and then I’d have to run out,” Dunst recalled. “It was such a long-winded thing to get in the car, jump on Josh, his wig would fall off… Then I bit him once, I remember. It was just a mess.”
Two decades after the release of “The Virgin Suicides”, Josh insists the film still ranks as the best experience of his career.
“I think it was the beginning of me finding confidence as an adult,” he said. “Everything’s changed since then. It’s been almost 22 years since we shot it. That’s so many lifetimes; it’s absolutely insane. It was a transformative experience for me, and I’ve always said if anyone cares to ask, it’s probably my favourite filming experience.”

  • Dr. Dre to Narrate Lennox Lewis Documentary

    Instagram

The Grammy-winning hip-hop star has been tapped as a narrator for an upcoming movie called ‘Tough Love’ about the former champion heavyweight boxer Lennox Lewis.
    Jun 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – Rap legend Dr. Dre will narrate new Lennox Lewis documentary “Tough Love”.
Directed by Rick Lazes and Seth Koch, the film’s trailer dropped on Friday, June 19, 2020 and features interviews with former champion heavyweight boxer Lewis, his family and entourage, and some of his toughest opponents, including Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson.
Director Lazes tells Deadline, “One of the things that makes this film important is that it’s very current in the period of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement. Lennox grew up during the Brixton riots and was alone in London for several years when his mom moved to Canada to get a job.”
“The movie is about overcoming obstacles, passion, forgiveness and Lennox’s compassion, but it also questions who we hero-ise (sic). It’s interesting how someone like Mike Tyson gets so much attention while someone like Lennox, who was disciplined, dedicated, honest and worked so hard, hasn’t had quite the same spotlight.”
Lewis adds, “This is a story that needed to be told. It’s a long time overdue. I’m very glad we were able to do it. A lot of people were telling me I should do a movie biopic but I thought a documentary would be better. I was inspired by the great documentaries about boxers like Muhammad Ali.”
“There isn’t much information out there about me. I’m not like a Mike Tyson, so it’s a look behind the curtain at things that took place in my past. There are sad stories out there about kids of single parents – or maybe even no parents at all – who may feel like they can’t make it in life. But I am proof that you can.”

Rebel Wilson Paid Extra to Stay Overweight for Movie Role

    WENN

Before she started to slim down this year, the ‘Pitch Perfect’ actress says she had to stay fat because she was paid extra by producers for an onscreen role.
    Jun 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Rebel Wilson continued overeating as she was paid to maintain her larger frame for a film role.
The Australian comedian and actress has recently begun slimming down and has dubbed 2020 her “year of health” in order to shed the pounds.
In an interview with British newspaper The Sun, Rebel reveals that one reason she continued to live unhealthily was that she was paid extra to stay overweight for one role as it required a larger actress.
“I turned 40 as well in March and so I thought, this is gonna be it,” she says. “This is going to be the year for me to just concentrate on the health benefits.”
“It’s not like I want to lose weight and get to around a certain number. It’s more than that, it’s about dealing mentally with why I was overeating and I had a job where I was paid a lot of money to be bigger, at times, which kind of can mess with your head a bit.”
Having established herself as a comedy star in films like “Bridesmaids” and “Pitch Perfect”, Rebel is now free to get fit – and wants to detail her health kick in a book.
“I’m just trying to work on the mental side and the physical job and doing a lot of personal training and, on the nutrition side like it’s, it’s cool… I should probably write a book at some point about it because people seem to be interested,” the funnywoman adds. “There’s no real simple answer to it. I’ve been trying a lot of different things and to be healthy.”
