'Smash' TV Series Adapted Into Broadway Musical

    NBC

The hit television show starring Katharine McPhee and Debra Messing is heading to The Great White Way as a stage musical adaptation is confirmed to be in the work.
    May 22, 2020
AceShowbiz – A new musical based on TV series “Smash” is headed to Broadway.
Producers Steven Spielberg, Robert Greenblatt, and Neil Meron will oversee the live stage adaptation of the hit NBC musical-within-a-musical series, with original songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman on board to pen the score.
The new stage show will apparently depart slightly from the TV show’s original storyline, but the main characters, writers Julia and Tom and actresses Ivy and Karen, will still be central to the story.
No further plot details for the show have been announced.
“I am personally thrilled to be a part of this musical and its road to Broadway,” Spielberg said in a statement. ” ‘Smash’ is near and dear to my heart, and it seems fitting that a new musical inspired by what we did on the show would eventually come to the stage.”
“I’m beyond thrilled to be working with this incredible creative team and my producing partners, who began the ‘Smash’ journey with me over ten years ago.”
“Smash” starred Katharine McPhee, Megan Hilty, Debra Messing, Christian Borle, Anjelica Huston, and Jack Davenport, with McPhee as a Broadway ingenue and Hilty a stage veteran, both vying for the role of Marilyn Monroe.
The news comes one day after the 2015 charity concert of the musical streamed for audiences as a fundraiser for The Actors Fund.

Zoe Kravitz Eager to Be Back Filming 'The Batman' Despite Safety Concerns Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

    WENN

Sharing similar enthusiasm as the actress portraying Catwoman in the Matt Reeves-directed blockbuster is co-star Colin Farrell who has been tapped to play The Penguin.
    May 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – Zoe Kravitz can’t wait to get back to filming “The Batman” in London, even though she doesn’t know how movie bosses will keep her safe amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
The actress was portraying Catwoman in director Matt Reeves’ new blockbuster before production was shut down in March, and she admits that because the role involved costume and make-up supervisors touching her face and skin all day, she’s not sure how they’ll make her look good if they have to keep their distance once the cameras start rolling again.
“You have people just touching your face, touching your body all day long,” Zoe tells Variety. “I need help getting into the catsuit. I can’t do it on my own.”
“I was probably touched more (on this film) than any job, just because of the clothes and the combat and all of that.”
But Zoe insists she will be ready to go back to work when she gets the OK: “I’m hoping to wake up every day to an email or a phone call saying, ‘We’re ready to go!’ I’m in touch with everybody, and everyone’s ready to go when it’s safe.”
She’s not the only castmate raring to go – Colin Farrell is also keen to get back to the set to pick up where he left off with villain The Penguin.
He recently said, “It’s all exciting, to be a part of that universe… I really am so excited to get back and explore it. I haven’t got that much to do. I have a certain amount in the film. I am not all over it by any means, but there are a couple of tasty scenes I have in it… It feels original and fun, but I am only at the start of the journey.”

'Deadpool' Creator Believes Third Movie Will Not Come Out in Next Five Years

    Twentieth Century Fox

When claiming he has not seen ‘Deadpool 3’ on the Marvel’s schedule, comic book creator Rob Liefeld points out, ‘Until a movie is put on a schedule, it’s not taken seriously.’
    May 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – A third “Deadpool 3” film is not on the Marvel schedule for the next five years, according to the creator of the comic that inspired the franchise.
Rob Liefeld has revealed that the much-anticipated sequel, which would star Ryan Reynolds, isn’t on the latest docket compiled by film bosses.
“Until a movie is put on a schedule, it’s not taken seriously,” Liefeld tells io9. “And what people don’t like is that I have assessed the schedule for the next – give or take – five years and I don’t see ‘Deadpool’ on it. I don’t see that it can arrive earlier than that.”
The writer also clarified that some of his past comments on the lack of progress on the production were not a knock on executives at Marvel, but rather a way for him to be honest with “Deadpool” fans.
“Do I know that there is no movement on a ‘Deadpool 3’ right now? I know that, yes. Does that worry me? No, not at all,” he adds. “What I did was I answered a question honestly, and what I learned this week is just lie. Just tell people everything is lollipop and unicorns and rainbows and you’ll be better off in your life, because people want to be lied to.
“Just because some guy goes, ‘Yeah, we’re still moving along’, that’s code for ‘there’s nothing to see here’.”
“Deadpool” was released in 2016 and it’s hit follow-up debuted in 2018.
