Donald Glover Plots 'Community' Movie That Tracks Down Missing Troy Barnes

    NBC

The ‘Atlanta’ actor has pitched his idea for a big-screen spinoff project during online reunion for charity and received positive feedback from his co-stars.
    May 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Donald Glover pitched his idea for spin-off movie to his old “Community” castmates during a reunion table read on Monday, May 18, 2020.
The one-off special saw Glover reuniting with his castmates Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong as well as creator Dan Harmon to help Jose Andres’ World Central Kitchen and Frontline Foods’ Covid-19 relief efforts.
During the reunion, the “Atlanta” star pitched an idea for a film in which Abed Nadir, the character played by Pudi, would go out in search of his own character Troy Barnes – who is considered dead or lost at sea after being captured by pirates during season five.

“I like movies like that,” Glover said, “What am I doing, writing the movie on the fly or something?”
Pudi agreed, adding, “I love the idea of Troy being lost and Abed’s mission is to go find him, try to track someone down – that would be fun.”
The rest of the cast also raised their hands in support of the idea of a new movie although Glover said the start of production could be some way off due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“The Mandalorian” star Pedro Pascal also took part in the table read, filling in for Walton Goggins, who was not available to reprise his character, Mr. Stone.

    May 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Pyer Moss founder Kerby Jean-Raymond is set to headline a drive-in documentary showcase in September, during what would have been Fashion Week.
As runway shows in cities like New York, London, Milan and Paris look set to be cancelled in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, many designers are looking for alternate ways to present their upcoming looks.
On Monday (May 18), Raymond announced he will host a screening of the fashion film “American, Also” at a New York drive-in movie theatre this September. The production explores the creation of and preparation for the brand’s Spring 2020 show at Brooklyn’s Kings Theater.
The event will kick off a tour of drive-in’s throughout the U.S.
“It’s always been our mission to show the amount of thinking and laboring that goes behind putting together a collection,” Jean-Raymond said in a statement to Vogue. “We’ve been slowing down the speed of how much we produce and improving the quality of what we produce throughout the years. This film aims to show the love and care our entire company puts into every single moment we create and will show that we appreciate fashion as an art form and communication tool that we’ve used to embolden a community around us.”

David Arquette 'Thrilled' to Be Back as Dewey Riley in 'Scream 5'

    Dimension Films

Production for the fifth instalment of the horror movie franchise is expected to begin in Wilmington, North Carolina in late 2020 with Tyler Gillett serving behind the lens.
    May 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – David Arquette has confirmed the “Scream” movie franchise is heading back to the big screen with him reprising his cop character Sheriff Dewey Riley.
The actor, who portrayed Riley in all four “Scream” movies, has revealed he’ll be reuniting with his “Scream family” once the coronavirus lockdown is over.
“I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again…,” he says. “Scream has been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honouring (late creator) Wes Craven’s legacy.”
Movie bosses at Spyglass Entertainment are in talks with more cast members with a view to adding them to the fifth “Scream” instalment, which will begin production in Wilmington, North Carolina later this year. Tyler Gillett will direct.
Neve Campbell and Matthew Lillard have both recently expressed interest in returning to the “Scream” franchise, with Lillard telling Entertainment Tonight he’s up for bringing back his character, Stuart, even though he was killed by Campbell’s Sidney Prescott in the first film back in 1996.
“I would love to come back,” he said. “Actors, for the most part, most of us are out here tap dancing as fast as we can to feed our families and get jobs. So if there was a chance to come back, that made sense, yes.”
Campbell previously told The Hollywood Reporter, “We’re just in the beginning phases of negotiations, and we’ll have to see where it goes with Covid and everything. There are a lot of things up in the air.”

    May 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actor Nicholas Hoult has shared his strangest audition experience in a new clip looking back on his career.
During the video for GQ magazine, the star, 30, revealed that when he auditioned for “X-Men: First Class”, director Matthew Vaughn had a strange request.
“Matthew Vaughn asked me to do a couple of takes in an American accent as you kind of saw the character. But then also (to) do a take doing an impression of Stewie Griffin from ‘Family Guy’,” Nicholas shared about his audition for the role of Hank McCoy/Beast.
“I had watched a lot of ‘Family Guy’ in my teen years growing up, so I was like, ‘OK, I think I’ve got a pretty good impression of Stewie Griffin lined up.’ ”

He added, “So I did a whole version of the take as Stewie Griffin and sent it off. So maybe that helped me get the part? I don’t know.”

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Broadway Stars Slam CBS for Replacing Tony Awards With 'Grease' Sing-Along

    WENN

The ‘Hamilton’ creators and many other Broadway stars are furious at the TV bosses for filling the vacant slot left by the 2020 Tony Awards with a sing-along viewing.
    May 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Broadway stars are furious after U.S. network bosses decided to replace the annual Tony Awards ceremony broadcast with a sing-along viewing of movie musical “Grease”.
Chiefs at CBS announced that the classic 1978 musical, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, will fill the June 7, 2020 time slot vacated by the 2020 Tony Awards due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, the decision has been slammed by Broadway stars, who took to Twitter to express their disappointment over the move.
Gideon Glick of “To Kill a Mockingbird” tweeted, “I’m certain there are a million gays out there who could help you curate a greatest hits of the Tony Awards to air instead!”
“(Not) a retrospective of past great Tony performances and speeches and moments? Or something highlighting the amazing work that people in theatre do for their community? Or literally anything other than this?” “Frozen” star Patti Murin mused of the network’s move.
Lyricist Benj Pasek, “Hamilton” ‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda, and “Wicked” star Andy Mientus also took to the platform to object to the broadcast.
Since New York government officials announced a ban on gatherings over 500 on March 12, 2020, Broadway has remained shut, marking the longest hiatus in its history. The Great White Way will remain dark until at least September 2020.
“The Grease” sing-along will air on CBS on 7 June at 8.30 P.M. ET.

    Mirisch Company

The classic 1959 movie starring the late Hollywood movie icon is set to to be adapted into a new stage musical for the Great White Way in the Big Apple next year.
    May 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Movie classic “Some Like It Hot” is heading to Broadway as a new musical.
The 1959 comedy, starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon, has been adapted for the stage by “The Inheritance” ‘s Matthew Lopez, with music and lyrics from Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, the duo who created the tunes for TV series “Smash” and the hit Broadway production of “Hairspray!”.
The show had previously been in development for a spring, 2021 debut in Chicago, Illinois, but the project will now head straight to the Great White Way next year, with “The Book of Mormon” ‘s Casey Nicholaw onboard as director and choreographer.
Casting details have yet to be revealed.
The Billy Wilder movie, about two musicians who dress in drag to escape the clutches of the mafia, previously inspired the hit musical “Sugar”, which opened on Broadway in 1972.
The news of the “Some Like It Hot” adaptation emerges as the Big Apple’s famed theatre district remains shuttered due to the coronavirus pandemic. Broadway venues will stay closed throughout the summer, at least until America’s Labor Day holiday in early September 2020.
