'Avatar 2' Unveils First Look at Kate Winslet in New Set Photo

    WENN

The ‘Steve Jobs’ actress is pictured with the movie’s returning stars, Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, as well as another new cast member, Cliff Curtis, floating in a 900,000 gallon tank.
    May 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Avatar 2” has shared another glimpse of its stars, including first look at new cast member Kate Winslet. On Wednesday, May 13, the movie released via its official Twitter page a new official set photo showing Winslet posing along with her co-stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Cliff Curtis, who is also a new addition to the cast.
In the picture, the four actors are wearing diving gear, with what looks like a camera attached to their helmets, while floating in a gigantic water tank. “From the set of the sequels: @ZoeSaldana, Sam Worthington, Kate Winslet, and Cliff Curtis taking a break from underwater performance capture for a quick photo!” read the caption accompanying the image.
The tweet also shared a “fun fact” from the production of the James Cameron-directed sequels, revealing, “Much of the performance capture took place in this 900,000 gallon tank, built specifically for the sequels.”

The movie’s official Twitter account previously revealed “that layer of white on the water’s surface” is comprised thousands floating white balls that are used to “prevent lights from interfering with filming underwater.”
Cameron kicked off principal photography of “Avatar 2” in September 2017, simultaneously with “Avatar 3”. In November 2018, the director announced filming with the principal performance capture cast had been completed. Live-action filming for the two sequels began in New Zealand in the spring of 2019, but was postponed in March of this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Despite the indefinite filming delay, Cameron recently stated that it would not affect the release date of “Avatar 2”. The movie is currently scheduled to open in theaters on December 17, 2021.
“I want to get back to work on ‘Avatar 2’, which right now we’re not allowed to do under state emergency laws or rules. So it’s all on hold right now,” he told Empire magazine. The filmmaker added that, just before everyone went into lockdown, he was getting set to “shoot down in New Zealand, so that got pushed,” adding, “We’re trying to get back to it as quick as we can.”
“On the bright side, New Zealand seems to have been very effective in controlling the virus and their goal is not mitigation, but eradication, which they believe that they can do with aggressive contact tracing and testing,” Cameron explained. “So there’s a very good chance that our shoot might be delayed a couple of months, but we can still do it. So that’s good news.”

Robert De Niro Likens New York to Ghost Town in Sci-Fi Movie Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

    WENN

The ‘Irishman’ actor calls the ongoing coronavirus pandemic ‘surreal’ and compares the global health crisis to the scary scenes in Hollywood science-fiction movie.
    May 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Robert De Niro has compared the coronavirus pandemic to a science-fiction movie, calling the situation “surreal.”
“The Goodfellas” star is currently in lockdown in New York, and told BBC Newsnight it’s “very strange” to be in the Big Apple while the streets are so unusually quiet.
“New York is kind of like a ghost town,” he shared. “But then it’s surreal. Then you see other parts of the world, other big, great cities of the world are also in the same situation. It’s interesting.”
“It’s kind of like a science-fiction movie, but it’s real, you know.”
Reflecting on the leadership in the city during the crisis, he praised Governor Andrew Cuomo for doing a “great job,” adding, “He’s done what (President Donald) Trump should have done, but he doesn’t have a clue how to do that. So it’s scary, because everyone is sort of nonplussed and stunned at what this guy is doing.”
The actor also reflected on the possibility of the coronavirus crisis influencing a new generation of movies, with “The Irishman” star musing, “For some, it is traumatic I imagine. For others, they want to get their mind off things and they will watch movies and whatever is there. That is a great thing to do. And hopefully I can do that too, at one point.”
“But it’s just a very, very, very difficult time and everybody knows it, and they are kind of like saying, ‘What world are we in?’ ”

Anne Hathaway Recalls Surprise Finding Real Accidental Slip in 'The Princess Diaries' Trailer

    Walt Disney Pictures

Taking part in a tribute to Garry Marshall, the ‘Les Miserables’ actress shares the memory she had working with the late filmmaker on their hit 2001 movie.
    May 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Anne Hathaway was floored to see an embarrassing moment from “The Princess Diaries” shoot in the film’s trailer.
The Oscar winner was among the stars who agreed to be part of a tribute to late TV mogul and filmmaker Garry Marshall, which aired in America on Tuesday night (May 12), and she recalled working with the beloved director on the hit 2001 movie.
“One of the things that I love about Garry is that he’s never afraid of the spontaneous moment,” Anne said. “If it was good, it was in the movie. He didn’t care where it came from.”
To make her point, the “Les Miserables” star recounted filming a scene with Heather Matarazzo on bleachers in San Francisco, California after a rain storm.
Marshall told the castmates to walk up and down the benches trying to time it, so Anne was always at the bottom when Heather was at the top.
“We had to get the shot really fast because we were losing light,” Hathaway giggled, “and we had to go on these bleachers and they did their best to wipe them down.”
“I guess one take Heather had a lot of energy, so she’s moving faster and I mistimed it and I realised that we were going to be on the same step, so I turned really fast, slipped on a puddle and just fell… and burst out laughing and kept going with the scene.”
“(I) never thought about it again and all of a sudden, six months later, it’s in the trailer. He (Marshall) kept it because it was a charming moment.”

“The Happy Days of Garry Marshall” also featured tributes from the filmmaker’s “Pretty Woman” leading lady Julia Roberts and “Happy Days” co-stars Henry Winkler and Ron Howard, among others.

'Hamilton' Movie to Get Early Release on Disney +

    Walt Disney Studios

In addition to being moved up 15 months earlier, the film version of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway show is switched to the streaming platform instead of the planned theatrical release.
    May 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Hamilton” is getting fast-tracked amid all the uncertainties due to the coronavirus pandemic. Disney has decided to move up the release date of the movie version of the Lin-Manuel Miranda Broadway musical 15 months earlier, from its original October 15, 2021 release date to July 3 of this year. Not only that, but also the movie will skip its planned theatrical release in favor of straight-to-streams on Disney+.
Disney Executive Chairman Robert Iger and creator/original star Miranda appeared on “Good Morning America” on Tuesday, May 12 to announce the decision. Hyping it up on Twitter, Miranda posted a teaser of the film and wrote along with it, “It’s only a matter of time… Our Hamilton film. THIS July 3rd. On Disney+.”

Lin-Manuel Miranda announces ‘Hamilton’ movie’s new release date.
He also said in a statement, “I’m so proud of how beautifully Tommy Kail has brought ‘Hamilton’ to the screen. He’s given everyone who watches this film the best seat in the house.” He continued, “I’m so grateful to Disney and Disney+ for reimagining and moving up our release to July 4th weekend of this year, in light of the world turning upside down. I’m so grateful to all the fans who asked for this, and I’m so glad that we’re able to make it happen. I’m so proud of this show. I can’t wait for you to see it.”
Iger added, “No other artistic work in the last decade has had the cultural impact of ‘Hamilton’ — an inspiring and captivating tale told and performed in a powerfully creative way. In light of the extraordinary challenges facing our world, this story about leadership, tenacity, hope, love and the power of people to unite against the forces of adversity is both relevant and impactful.”
The new date Disney picked for the “Hamilton” film isn’t a coincident, as Iger said, “We are thrilled to bring this phenomenon to Disney+ on the eve of Independence Day, and we have the brilliant Lin-Manuel Miranda and the team behind ‘Hamilton’ to thank for allowing us to do so more than a year before planned.”
The “Hamilton” movie is edited together from three performances of Hamilton at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City in 2016 with the original principal Broadway cast members, combined with a few “setup shots” recorded without audience. Like the stage production, it is directed by Thomas Kail, with Miranda starring in the title role.

Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy Reveal What Really Caused 'Mad Max: Fury Road' On-Set Feud

    Warner Bros./Jasin Boland

The ‘Bombshell’ star admits she put up walls to protect herself because of her own fear, while the ‘Venom’ actor confesses he got overwhelmed by the pressures that came with his role.
    May 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy have finally opened up about reports of a feud between them on the set of “Mad Max: Fury Road”, admitting they both could have done more to be better castmates.
The two A-listers famously fell out while making the 2015 film, but they’ve never really addressed the drama behind the scenes – until now.
In a New York Times piece, both stars reveal on-set challenges and delays in production turned them against each other.
“In retrospect, I didn’t have enough empathy to really, truly understand what he must have felt like to step into (original “Mad Max” star) Mel Gibson’s shoes,” Charlize told the publication. “That is frightening!”.
“I think because of my own fear, we were putting up walls to protect ourselves instead of saying to each other, ‘This is scary for you, and it’s scary for me, too. Let’s be nice to each other.’ In a weird way, we were functioning like our characters: Everything was about survival.”
Theron also confessed she was “incredibly scared” because she had never made a film like Fury Road: “I think the hardest thing between me and (director) George (Miller) is that he had the movie in his head and I was so desperate to understand it.”
For his part, Hardy admits there was so much pressure on him he couldn’t think straight.
“I was in over my head in many ways,” he said. “The pressure on both of us was overwhelming at times. What she needed was a better, perhaps more experienced, partner in me. That’s something that can’t be faked. I’d like to think that now that I’m older and uglier, I could rise to that occasion.”
The former co-stars’ candour comes amid reports Miller is planning another “Mad Max” blockbuster and a possible spin-off, starring Anya Taylor-Joy as a younger version of Charlize’s character, Furiosa.
Meanwhile, Hardy has revealed there are plans for him to star in another two “Mad Max” films and Theron has stated she’d return for another film if Miller directs.

Russell Crowe's Movie 'Unhinged' to Come Out in July as Test for Cinema After Lockdown

    Solstice Studios

The thriller fronted by the ‘Gladiator’ actor will become the first movie to hit theaters in the United States when the restrictions are expected to be lifted this coming summer.
    May 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Russell crowe’s new movie will serve as a test for the U.S. cinema industry when it becomes the first film officially released to theatres in July 2020 once the coronavirus shut down ends.
Solstice Studios bosses have bumped up the release of thriller “Unhinged” to July 1, 2020 so they can be in theatres as soon as they re-open, in time for America’s 4 July holiday weekend.
“When we green lit this film, I probably figured that July 4th weekend and Christmas would be the two least likely slots,” Solstice chairman/CEO Mark Gill tells Deadline. “We were sitting on September 4 and then COVID-19 happened, and A Quiet Place 2 moved out of its original slot and landed on our date. When you are in a speedboat and a giant ship is coming at you, you better move out of the way.”
“We looked at the rest of the year, fall/winter and spring 2021. The release schedule was already crowded, and when you add all the films that have been delayed, it made it think that maybe we go sooner (sic).”
Gill has the backing of NATO experts, “The first call was to John Fithian at NATO, whose organisation is in touch with state public services departments, and if they had said, ‘You can’t open theatres,’ we would have said forget it. We don’t want to do anything that isn’t safe and expert-guided.”
Meanwhile, Solstice researchers have carried out a private poll of 1,000 movie fans and were encouraged by how many were planning to return to theatres as soon as they re-opened in America.
“We thought maybe 40 per cent would say they were eager to return to the theatres, but we were surprised to see the number at 80 per cent,” Gill adds. “We became convinced that enough theatres will have been open for a couple of weeks, playing repertory and not new films… and from a business perspective, we see an opportunity to have a week or two of clear path before theatres get (blockbusters) Mulan and Tenet.”
