First 'Fast and Furious 9' Teaser Trailer Shows Dom's Domesticated Life

    [embedded content]

Despite the seemingly peaceful life of Vin Diesel’s character with Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty and his son, the sneak-peek video hints at imminent danger that threatens his family.
    Jan 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Universal Pictures has debuted the first teaser trailer for “Fast and Furious 9”, more than two years after the eighth installment hit theaters. First released via Vin Diesel’s Facebook page, the almost-one-minute-video focuses on the new life of Dominic Toretto (Diesel) as a domesticated father.
The professional street racer has now retired and settled down with his wife Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and his son Brian, who is named after Paul Walker’s character Brian O’Conner, at a farmhouse. The little boy appears to share the same interest with his father as he helps Dom fixing a tractor.
Narrating the video, Dom talks about how his life has changed. “Things change. Now that I’m a father, I can’t live my life a quarter mile at a time anymore,” he says. “I’ll always be in your heart,” he tells his son while putting him to bed.
But that’s about to change as the video hints at imminent danger that threatens his family when Letty gives Brian her necklace, which she got from Dom, as protection from a mysterious enemy. Dom, for some reasons, seems worried as he stares at the necklace in the next shot.
Official synopsis for the movie has not been unveiled yet, but more details can be expected in the coming days as the full trailer is scheduled to be released on Friday, January 31.
Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel and Helen Mirren are set to reprise their respective roles, with Charlize Theron returning to villainize the movie. Michael Rooker, John Cena, Finn Cole, Anna Sawai, Vinnie Bennett, Ozuna and Cardi B are added to the cast as new characters, while Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham are not expected to return after starring in their own spin-off “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw”.

Justin Lin still serves behind the lens with the script written by Daniel Casey. The movie is due out in the United States on May 22.

Claire Danes: I Didn't Want the Level of Fame 'Titanic' Brought Leonardo DiCaprio

    WENN/Rob Rich

During a sit down with Dax Shepard on his ‘Armchair Expert’ podcast, the ‘Homeland’ star claims to having ‘zero regret’ in turning down the female lead role for the Oscar-winning blockbuster.
    Jan 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Claire Danes has “zero” regrets about turning down “Titanic”, insisting she had no interest in the level of fame the film brought Leonardo DiCaprio.
The “Homeland” actress reveals she bowed out of consideration for the Oscar-winning blockbuster, letting the lead role ultimately go to Kate Winslet back in 1996, largely because the part felt all too familiar. The actress had just wrapped Baz Luhrmann’s “Romeo + Juliet” with DiCaprio, and was looking for a different type of venture.
“I had just made this romantic epic with Leo in Mexico City, which is where they were going to shoot ‘Titanic’!” she said during a sit down with Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast. “And I just didn’t have it in me!”
The 40-year-old recalls DiCaprio himself wrestling with the decision to take on the James Cameron epic, recounting a conversation they had outside their mutual manager’s office.
“And he just looked up at me and said, ‘I’m doing it! I’m doing it!’ ” she said. “And I could see he wasn’t sure. But he was like, ‘F**k it, I gotta do this thing.’ ”
Danes added that she could not see herself grappling with the global attention the actor received following the film’s release.
“And I looked down at him, and I was like, ‘I totally understand why you’re doing that. And I’m not ready for that.’ And I think I really wasn’t ready for it. And I remember after that movie came out… and he just went into another stratosphere.”
She noted she has “zero regret” after noticing a swift change in how people treat her former co-star.
“I think I may have sensed that I was courting that (level of fame) or I was proximate to that… and I just couldn’t do it. I didn’t want it. I was just really clear about it. I wasn’t conflicted,” she insisted.

As for whether or not anything romantic happened between the pair while they were filming the classic Shakespearean love story, she believes off-screen love was not written in the stars for them.

“That was just never going to happen,” she explained, while admitting there was a “crushy” vibe between the two. “I didn’t know how to go about that… we’re really different people.”

'Transformers' Reboot Is in the Works With Brand New Casts

    Paramount Pictures

Rumor has it, there are two new drafts penned by ‘Murder Mystery’ scribe and ‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’ screenwriter for the project which is expected to have brand new casts.
    Jan 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Paramount Pictures is reportedly looking to reboot the hit “Transformers” franchise with two new scripts currently in development.
According to Variety, James Vanderbilt, writer of “Murder Mystery”, and “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword” ‘s Joby Harold have been tapped to pen the new flicks, which are expected to build out multiple storylines within the franchise.
No directors have been attached to either script at this time, and it is believed that both projects will feature brand new casts.
It is expected the new instalments will follow a similar format to 2018’s “Bumblebee”, starring Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, and Dylan O’Brien, which served as an origin story for the title character, one of the Autobots.
The franchise, inspired by the toys and subsequent cartoon of the same name, launched in 2007 with director Michael Bay’s “Transformers”, which starred Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, and prompted several sequels.
No release date has been announced for the new movies.

'The Batman' Director Marks First Day of Filming With Official Set Photo

    Twitter

Matt Reeves shares on Twitter the first official photo from the set of the Warner Bros. film that has Robert Pattinson starring as the titular DC superhero.
    Jan 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – Principal photography on “The Batman” has officially begun. Director Matt Reeves announced the news on Twitter and marked the first day of production by sharing the first official photo from the set of the upcoming Warner Bros.-DC Films movie.
On Monday, January 27, the filmmaker posted on his account a picture of the film’s clapboard sitting on a brown leather chair, which somehow fits the imagery of Wayne Manor. “#DayOne #TheBatman,” he captioned it, with a shout out to cinematographer Greig Fraser.

Matt Reeves announces production on ‘The Batman’ has officially begun.
While the photo barely reveals anything beyond what’s written on the clapboard, it’s enough to get fans riled up with excitement about the upcoming film. “YAS!!!” a fan commented below Reeves’ post. Another wrote, “HERE WE GOOOOOOO! #TheBatman.” Someone else expressed confidence in the director’s take as saying, “I believe in Matt Reeves. My prediction.: The best Batman movie ever ( based on director, composer, cast ) I feel extremely confident.”
Previously, photos from the movie’s set in London leaked online, but they now appeared to be from second-unit filming. The photos offered a glimpse of Colin Farrell as the Penguin and someone wearing a scarf around his face and sitting on a motorbike who could be Robert Pattinson or his stunt double.
“The Batman” will focus on a younger Bruce Wayne than he was in previous movies. Reeves has shared his vision for the new Batman movie, saying, “It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films.” He added, “I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”
Zoe Kravitz joins the cast as Catwoman, Paul Dano is tapped to play Batman’s villain The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright is said to play James Gordon, and Peter Sarsgaard is cast in a mystery role, with fans speculating that he might be portraying District Attorney Harvey Dent, who becomes the villain Two-Face.
The film is slated to open in theaters nationwide on June 25, 2021.

Carey Mulligan Joins Stars and Filmmakers in Alternative BAFTAs Campaign

    WENN/Brian To

Days leading to the BAFTA Film Awards, the ‘Suffragette’ star and many other British actresses team up with Time’s Up U.K. to call on fans to celebrate those who they feel wrongly missed out.
    Jan 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – Carey Mulligan and Amma Asante are among the stars and filmmakers who have launched a social media campaign to recognise women and people of colour overlooked at this year’s BAFTA Film Awards.
Bosses at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts came under fire after the nominations were announced earlier this month, as no actors of colour were nominated for main prizes, and the Best Director shortlist was all male.
Ahead of Sunday’s (February 02) ceremony, Carey, Amma and others have teamed up with equality organisation Time’s Up UK to call on fans to celebrate those who they feel wrongly missed out – and would have bagged a nomination on a more diverse shortlist.
Nominating her choice for the Best Director gong, Carey said in a press release, “I would give a BAFTA nomination to Lorene Scafaria for Hustlers,” while Belle director Amma complained that the Lena Waithe penned thriller “Queen & Slim”, missed out.
“My pick for Best Actress in a Leading Role for this year’s BAFTA Film Awards is Jodie Turner-Smith in ‘Queen & Slim’,” she added.
Similarly Gemma Arterton believed Olivia Wilde’s directorial debut “Booksmart” was overlooked, saying, “I loved Booksmart and can’t believe it didn’t get any nods, especially for the acting and first-time director. Same goes for ‘The Nightingale’ and ‘Portrait of a Lady on Fire’.”
Joely Richardson meanwhile, expressed her disappointment that her mother Vanessa Redgrave didn’t get a Best Supporting Actress nod for “Mrs Lowry & Son”.
Akua Gyamfi, founder of The British Blacklist entertainment platform also listed a host of actors of colour who she felt deserved recognition, including Lupita Nyong’o, Cynthia Erivo, Daniel Kaluuya, and Damson Idris.
Explaining the rationale behind the intervention, Time’s Up UK Chair Heather Rabbatts said: “Time’s Up wants to ensure we do not let these awards pass by without us raising the profile of those whose endeavours and performances have not made it to the nominations. So, we are running a social media campaign which will highlight those who are absent and who we also want to see recognised.”

Stephen King Admits to 'Stepping Over the Line' With Controversial Oscars Diversity Comments

    WENN

Having sparked an outcry on social media for suggesting quality was far more important than diversity, the bestselling novelist clarifies his statement through an op-ed for the Washington Post.
    Jan 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – Horror author Stephen King is clarifying comments he made about the lack of Oscars diversity in a new essay, during which he admits he “stepped over the line”.
Earlier this month (January 2020), the writer took to Twitter, as critics took aim at Oscars bosses over the lack of women and actors and artists of colour who were nominated for the 2020 Academy Awards’ top honours, and appeared to suggest quality was far more important than diversity.
“As a writer, I am allowed to nominate in just 3 categories: Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Screenplay,” he wrote. “For me, the diversity issue – as it applies to individual actors and directors, anyway – did not come up. That said…”.
He followed that up with another tweet, adding: “I would never consider diversity in matters of art. Only quality. It seems to me that to do otherwise would be wrong.”
The statement prompted an outcry on social media, as famous faces like director Ava DuVernay scolded King for brushing aside such an important issue.
Now the writer has addressed his statement in an op-ed for the Washington Post, published on Monday, January 27, and he insists he did not intent to spark outrage.
He wrote: “I stepped over one of those lines recently by saying something on Twitter that I mistakenly thought was noncontroversial: ‘I would never consider diversity in matters of art. Only quality. It seems to me that to do otherwise would be wrong’. The subject was the Academy Awards.”
“I also said, in essence, that those judging creative excellence should be blind to questions of race, gender or sexual orientation… I did not say that was the case today, because nothing could be further from the truth. Nor did I say that films, novels, plays and music focusing on diversity and/or inequality cannot be works of creative genius. They can be, and often are.”
“Ava DuVernay’s 2019 Netflix miniseries, ‘When They See Us’, about the wrongful convictions of the Central Park Five, is a splendid case in point.”
King concluded: “We don’t live in that perfect world, and this year’s less-than-diverse Academy Awards nominations once more prove it. Maybe someday we will. I can dream, can’t I? After all, I make stuff up for a living.”
