Sony Fuels Speculation of 'Spider-Man 3' Crossover With Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield

    Sony Pictures/Columbia Pictures

A video posted by Sony Channel Latin America teases the appearance of ‘the three Peter Parker saving the world together’ in the ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ sequel starring Tom Holland.

    Dec 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – The chance for a Spider-Man crossover with three Peter Parkers in upcoming “Spider-Man 3” looks brighter than ever now. After months of unconfirmed rumors, Sony itself has seemingly hinted at Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s return as the web-slinger in the Tom Holland-starring movie.
A video posted on Sony Channel Latin America’s official YouTube channel has fueled this speculation as it asks fans, “Who is your favorite Spider-Man?” The good news is, according to the video, “You don’t have to choose – in the Marvel Multiverse, anything can happen.”
The video, labeled “news,” goes on to say that “in ‘Spider-Man 3’ you will quite possibly see everyone – yes – the three Peter Parker saving the world together.” It teases that it will share more info on the forthcoming Marvel film “very soon” via Sony Latin America’s news section.

The rumors about Maguire and Garfield’s possible appearance in “Spider-Man 3” first spread in October. According to FandomWire, “Sony and Marvel are still finalizing a version of the script that features all three Spider-Men tackling many of their villains from the past, as well as new ones.”
As for the “villains from the past” that were mentioned in the supposed spoiler, they reportedly include Jamie Foxx’s Electro as well as Venom (Tom Hardy), Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin and Green Goblin. We Got This Covered additionally reported that Kraven the Hunter and Scorpion would be added to the mix.
Responding to this speculation, a representative for the studio told ET Canada later in the same month, “Those rumored castings are not confirmed.” The statement, however, didn’t sound like a straight denial.
Foxx, who previously appeared to accidentally confirm his return as Electro before retracting it, has also addressed the rumors of his “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” character’s appearance in “Spider-Man 3”. “I don’t know,” he told ComicBook.com, before coyly adding, “Anything is possible.”

'Dune' and 'Matrix 4' Among 2021 Movies WarnerMedia Will Stream on HBO Max

    Warner Bros. Pictures

The studio chiefs call the move to release their entire slate of 2021 movies via the streaming platform instead of film theaters ‘a strategic response to the impact of the ongoing global pandemic’.

    Dec 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – WarnerMedia bosses are to release their entire slate of 2021 movies to streaming platform HBO Max as they hit cinemas.
The film chiefs will be launching the much anticipated “Wonder Woman” sequel on the service on Christmas Day (December 25), but they are not waiting to see if the blockbuster finds success in the home video market and have decided all upcoming releases will spend their first month on HBO Max, which launched earlier this year.
That means film fans who subscribe to the service will be able to watch Denzel Washington’s new film “Little Things”, “Tom & Jerry”, “Godzilla vs. Kong”, “Mortal Kombat”, “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It”, “In The Heights”, “Space Jam: A New Legacy”, “The Suicide Squad”, “Dune”, “The Many Saints of Newark”, and “The Matrix 4” from the comfort of their sofa.

“The hybrid model was created as a strategic response to the impact of the ongoing global pandemic,” a studio statement reads. “Movie theaters aren’t apt to be entirely happy with this and it will be interesting to see what they charge for admission to the Warner Bros’ movies.”
“After considering all available options and the projected state of moviegoing throughout 2021, we came to the conclusion that this was the best way for WarnerMedia’s motion picture business to navigate the next 12 months,” WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar added. “More importantly, we are planning to bring consumers 17 remarkable movies throughout the year, giving them the choice and the power to decide how they want to enjoy these films. Our content is extremely valuable, unless it’s sitting on a shelf not being seen by anyone. We believe this approach serves our fans, supports exhibitors and filmmakers, and enhances the HBO Max experience, creating value for all.”

Mads Mikkelsen on Replacing Johnny Depp in 'Fantastic Beasts 3': 'These Are Sad Circumstances'

    WENN/Avalon

While he’s thrilled at the opportunity to join the cast of the upcoming movie, the ‘Hannibal’ actor can’t help feeling ‘super sad’ for the original Geller Grindewalt depicter.

    Dec 3, 2020
AceShowbiz – Mads Mikkelsen has broken his silence after he’s officially tapped to replace Johnny Depp in “Fantastic Beasts 3”. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the Danish actor reflected on the “sad circumstances” surrounding the original Geller Grindewalt depicter’s exit from the upcoming movie and the franchise due to the drama following his divorce from ex-wife Amber Heard.
“Job wise, it’s obviously super interesting and nice,” Mikkelsen said about being cast as the new Grindewalt. Expressing his sympathy for Depp, he added, “It’s also a shocker that it came after what happened, which is just super sad. I wish both of them the best. These are sad circumstances. I hope both of them will be back in the saddle again really soon.”
Mikkelsen also talked about how his version of the villain will be different from Depp’s. “Well it’s going to be me, so that’s a difference,” he quipped, before explaining, “No, this is the tricky part. We’re still working it out. There has to be a bridge between what Johnny did and what I’m going to do. And at the same time, I also have to make it my own. But also we have to find a few links [to the previous version of the character] and some bridges so it doesn’t completely detach from what he’s already masterfully achieved.”

Depp announced his exit from “Fantastic Beasts 3” on November 6 after losing a libel suit against British tabloid The Sun over a 2018 article that labeled him a “wife beater.” He said in a statement posted on Instagram at the time, “I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agreed to that request.”
He added of his legal judgment, “The surreal judgement of the court in the U.K. will not change my fight to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal. My resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false. My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time.”
Warner Bros. then confirmed Mikkelsen’s casting on November 25 after it was previously reported that the “Hannibal” alum was director David Yates’ choice to play the main villain.
“Fantastic Beasts 3” has been in production with Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law leading the cast. The movie is currently scheduled to open in theaters on July 15, 2022, after it was moved from its original due date of November 12, 2021.

Viggo Mortensen Says 'Maybe I'm Not Completely Straight' as He Defends Playing Gay Man in New Movie

    WENN

The ‘Captain Fantastic’ actor says his sexuality is ‘none of your business’ when he’s asked about the controversy about straight actors playing gay roles onscreen.

    Dec 3, 2020
AceShowbiz – Viggo Mortensen has defended playing a gay man in his new film “Falling”, insisting it’s “none of your business” whether or not he’s “completely straight.”
The 62-year-old stars as John in the movie, who invites his conservative, dementia-suffering father to live with him and his husband, played by Terry Chen.
In an interview with The Times about his role in the film, Mortensen was asked about the recent controversy surrounding straight actors taking on gay roles, and he replied, “Look, these are the times we’re living in, and I think it’s healthy that those issues are brought up. The short answer is that I didn’t think it was a problem. And people then ask me, ‘Well what about Terry Chen, who plays my husband in the film, is he a homosexual?’ ”

“And the answer is I don’t know, and I would never have the temerity to ask someone if they were, during the casting process. And how do you know what my life is? You’re assuming that I’m completely straight. Maybe I am, maybe I’m not. And it’s frankly none of your business.”
He concluded, “I want my movie to work, and I want the character of John to be effective. So if I didn’t think it was a good idea, I wouldn’t do it.”
“Falling” is due for release in cinemas on Friday (04Dec20).
The movie was based on the actor’s own experience of caring for his parents who battled dementia. He hoped to change how people see dementia sufferers. “Even in the best movies about dementia we’re looking at someone who’s confused,” he said. “And in my experience those who are confused are the observers.”

James Corden Slammed for 'Offensive' Gay Portrayal in 'The Prom'

    Netflix

The ‘Into the Woods’ star is heavily criticized for his stereotypical, ‘appalling and terminally bland’ performance as gay Broadway actor Barry Glickman in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix movie.

    Dec 2, 2020
AceShowbiz – James Corden’s performance in “The Prom” has drawn the ire of movie critics. The actor/comedian has sparked backlash for his “offensive” portrayal of a gay character in the Netflix musical film, which is directed by Ryan Murphy.
In the upcoming movie, “The Late Late Show with James Corden” host plays gay Broadway actor Barry Glickman whose star is fading. Calling it miscasting, some critics believe that the role should have gone to Nathan Lane.
Vanity Fair’s Richard Lawson wrote in his review, “Corden, who is straight, is so bad in ‘The Prom’-somehow both appalling and terminally bland.” He described the British star’s performance as “flitting and lisping around in the most uninspired of caricatures, misses all potential for nuance, and thus never finds even a hint of truth in the role.”
Newsweek critic Samuel Spencer dubbed Corden’s stereotypical performance “offensive,” while The Hollywood Reporter critic David Rooney agreed that the “Cats” star plays “a flaming gay stereotype” and “channels the mannerisms without the joy.” As the result, “It’s a flat performance without much heart.”

The Telegraph critic Tim Robey opined, “In a cast full of talented queer actors in the younger parts, it’s a massive problem to have Corden in gay-face front and center.” He took issue with a particular scene “when he grabs Emma’s (Jo Ellen Pellman) hand and whisks her to the mall for a makeover.” He explained, “It’s an insult the film doesn’t even consider, stereotyping the young lesbian as fashion-clueless and the gay man as a bustling Queer Eye nightmare who made this reviewer embarrassed to be batting for the same team.”
Digital Spy critic Ian Sandwell blamed Murphy for making “a major error in the casting of James Corden as the musical’s gay male lead character.” He argued, “The result sees Corden camp it up to the point of being regressive and offensive, hitting every gay stereotype along the way.”
Among the many critics, however, TV Guide writer Damian Holbrook begged to differ, praising Corden’s performance as “fantastic.” When a Twitter user asked him in disbelief, “The pussy from Cats is fantastic?” he replied, “I know!”
Neither Corden nor Murphy has responded to the backlash.
“The Prom” centers on fading Broadway stars who are determined to make a high school student’s prom dream come true as part of PR stunt to resurrect her public image. The star-studded cast also includes Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Keegan-Michael Key, Andrew Rannells and Kerry Washington among others. The movie will be available for streaming on Netflix beginning December 11.

Lily Collins Relies on Imagination to Play Herman J. Mankiewicz's Secretary in 'Mank'

    WENN/FayesVision

Though she couldn’t find much about Rita Alexander, the ‘Emily in Paris’ star could not help but honored to have gotten a chance to share Rita’s role in the making of ‘Citizen Kane’.

    Dec 2, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actress Lily Collins had to rely on her imagination to bring her portrayal of “Citizen Kane” screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz’s secretary to life onscreen, because there was so little known about Rita Alexander.
“The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” star features opposite Gary Oldman as the famed Hollywood scriptwriter in David Fincher’s new movie “Mank”, which chronicles the tumultuous development of Orson Welles’ 1941 cinematic masterpiece, but she struggled to find out more about Alexander’s life from press clippings and the history books before cameras started rolling.
“I really couldn’t (find much about her), there was very little research to be done, unfortunately,” Collins told U.S. breakfast show “Today”.
“I saw, I think, maybe two photos of her and from my research there were a few blurbs, but otherwise I had to leave it up to some imagination.”

Despite the lack of resources, Collins is excited to have played a part in having Alexander’s role in the making of “Citizen Kane” documented on film.
“I just love the fact that we get to shine a light on this incredible woman who is really responsible for aiding Mankiewicz in his confidence, and kind of (gives him) that little kick in the butt that he needed to rise to the occasion sometimes when he got in his own head, so we really owe, I think, a great gratitude to Rita, so I was really honoured to get to tell her story.”
Production on “Mank” took place late last year (19), while Collins was still working on her Netflix drama series “Emily in Paris”, and she had to spend two weekends flying back and forth between France and the U.S. to juggle the two projects.
“It was quite strange,” she shared of switching between roles. “I had to fly back to Los Angeles twice during filming (of ‘Emily in Paris’) for 24-hour periods on the weekend to do camera tests, fittings, rehearsals (for ‘Mank’).”
“But luckily, Emily is bright, bold and a little bit obvious, and American, and then Rita is in a black and white world, she’s British, she’s more still and subtle, so the two characters couldn’t be more different, but it definitely was an interesting time to fit both in at the same time. But I’m honoured to have been able to do both.”
