Gerard Butler's 'The Plane' Gets Ditched Over COVID-Related Production Insurance

    Instagram

The Christian Gudegast-directed movie, which was one of the biggest acquisitions at 2019’s American Film Market, was originally scheduled to start shooting in Malaysia in October.

    Nov 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – Gerard Butler’s new action movie, “The Plane”, has suffered a big blow following a decision by studio bosses at Lionsgate to bail out.
Deadline sources claim the company chiefs have abandoned the Christian Gudegast-directed movie, which was one of the biggest acquisitions at last year’s (19) American Film Market, due to COVID-related production insurance.
Dealmakers are now seeking a new distributor, who will cover expenses should a coronavirus outbreak hit the set, forcing a shutdown.
In the film, Butler will portray a pilot forced to land his commercial plane in a war zone and fight off the efforts of feuding militias keen to take him and his passengers hostage.

The film was supposed to start shooting in Malaysia last month (October), but when COVID cases spiked there, filmmakers moved the project to the Dominican Republic and stalled the shoot again due to a coronavirus crisis there. The current plan is to start filming in the spring in Malaysia.
In the meantime, Butler will make another movie, “Kandahar”, in the United Arab Emirates. He is also set to reprise his role as Mike Banning in “Night Has Fallen”, the fourth installment in the “Has Fallen” franchise.
According to Deadline, Ric Roman Waugh will direct the upcoming sequel, with Robert Kamen writing the script and Butler also in line to produce. The film will start shooting at Millennium Media’s Nu Boyana Studios in Bulgaria in the near future.
The first three films, “Olympus Has Fallen” (2013), “London Has Fallen” (2016) and “Angel Has Fallen” (2019), have combined a total gross of more than $520 million globally.

'Hustlers' Producers Come Out Victorious Against Real-Life Stripper's Lawsuit

    STX Entertainment

District Court Judge Denise Cote has dismissed Samantha Barbash’s legal claims that Jennifer Lopez based her role of Ramona on her and that the film’s drug use depiction was inaccurate.

    Nov 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – The real-life stripper who inspired Jennifer Lopez’s character in “Hustlers” has lost her lawsuit for invasion of privacy and defamation.
Samantha Barbash filed her legal claim in New York in January, claiming J.Lo based her role of Ramona on her, even though she had rejected an offer from executives at the superstar’s Nuyorican Productions company to sign off on the rights to her life story for the hit drama, about a group of exotic dancers who con their wealthy broker clients.
Barbash, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy, assault, and grand larceny in 2015, also sued for defamation, because Ramona was portrayed as “using and manufacturing illegal substances in her home where she lived with her child” – something she insists never happened.

The defendants challenged the allegations and requested the case be dismissed, and on Tuesday, November 10, their wish was granted by U.S. District Court Judge Denise Cote.
The judge ruled Barbash couldn’t claim invasion of privacy because her “name, portrait, picture, or voice” was never used in the marketing of the film, according to the New York Post.
Regarding her defamation argument, Judge Cote noted the film’s drug use depiction was inaccurate, but as Barbash failed to prove actual malice, the lawsuit was tossed and the case closed.
The judge wrote, “Barbash pled guilty to drugging individuals without their consent. The Pressler Article reports that Barbash concocted the recipe for the mixture of illegal drugs that rendered the scheme’s victims vulnerable to the fraud. Nor does the FAC plead that the Defendants acted with malice in asserting that Barbash herself used drugs. That assertion is the least offensive of all of the statements of which Barbash complains and is naturally connected to the scheme to which Barbash pleaded guilty and which she discussed with journalists.”

Zack Snyder to Put the Focus of Another 'Justice League' Spin-Off on Darkseid

    WENN/FayesVision

The filmmaker behind a four-part director’s cut series of ‘Justice League’ admits to already have that answer to the question about what happens when Ray Porter’s villainous character comes to Earth.

    Nov 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – Zack Snyder is planning a “Justice League” spin-off focusing on Ray Porter’s villain Darkseid.
The filmmaker, who is currently completing a director’s cut of “Justice League” which is set to air as a four-part series on HBO Max next year (21), is now mulling over another superhero/supervillain project thanks to a chat with Porter.
“If you said to any of the actors in the movie, ‘Well, what happens in the movie?’, or, ‘What happens later…’ and they go, ‘Well, I got the script and it’s cool and I kind of know this and…’ So Ray and I were talking about this and what’s cool or what’s the right response to some questions,” Snyder said during a League of Mayhem livestream.
“It’s a fair question to ask me, you know, like what do I say to the world about, you know, what happens when Darkseid comes to Earth? Then what? You know, is that a thing?”

      See also…

“The truth is that did I write and did I have and conceive a complete ‘Do I know what happens when Darkseid…?’ Yes, I do know what happens. To say and to speculate about what that is would be exciting, I think that’s a fine thing.”

And Porter has made it clear he’s keen to play the bad guy again.
“I would love to see a continuation of it,” he explains. “I personally would love to see a continuation of Zack’s story… That would be great. I’ve not heard anything about it, but you know. Hope.”

Selena Gomez's Casting as Gay Mountaineer Silvia Vasquez-Lavado Met With Objection

    WENN/Instagram/Adriana M. Barraza

Many disagree that the former ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ actress, who is straight, portrays the openly gay explorer in upcoming movie ‘In the Shadow of the Mountain’.

    Nov 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – Selena Gomez has been dragged on Twitter for taking on the role of an important character from LGBTQ+ community. The 28-year-old singer/actress has been announced to play trailblazing gay mountaineer Silvia Vasquez-Lavado in an upcoming biopic.
Titled “In the Shadow of the Mountain”, the film is based on upcoming memoir of the same name by Vasquez-Lavado, The Hollywood Report reports. The Peruvian-American explorer became the first openly gay woman to complete the Seven Summits, the tallest mountain on each continent from both the Messner and Bass lists, in June 2018.
Elgin James, FX’s “Mayans MC” co-creator who also wrote and directed “Little Birds”, has been tapped to write and direct “In the Shadow of the Mountain”. Scott Budnick is producing through his company One Community, alongside Oscar winner Donna Gigliotti and her Tempesta Films banner.
Gigliotti said of turning Vasquez-Lavado’s story into a big-screen project, “Silvia is a force of nature. Scott and I are so excited to work with Elgin and Selena to tell this story of resilience, courage, adventure and humanity.”
Budnick added, “We are thrilled to get to work bringing Silvia’s incredible and inspiring story to life onscreen.”

While Gomez has a quite long list of acting credits, many disagreed that she got chosen to take on the role of the real-life lesbian figure. “There are plenty of gay actors in the world who could play this person,” one person expressed objection to the casting.
“But she’s not gay. Where are all the lesbian actresses,” another reacted to the reports. “as much as i like selena it is kind of interesting how people are praising her for taking a role from lgbt actors but ripped Scarlett Johansson a new one for taking a role from a marginalized group of people like what?”
One other person thinks that Gomez didn’t deserve the role because of her “mediocre” skills. “I’m less upset at the gay thing and more upset that Selena somehow gets all these roles while being a mediocre actress,” the said person argued.
However, many have defended Gomez’s casting, with one rhetorically asking, “the actors who play psychopaths in movies are psychopaths in real life?” Another clapped back at the critics, “Sooo, only gay actors can play gay people now? Are they gonna go back in time and cancel Brokeback Mountain?”
A fan is already rooting for the “Monte Carlo” star, gushing, “OMG SELENA GO GET YOUR OSCAR.”

David Arquette Admits to Having 'Really Hard Time' Missing Wes Craven

    WENN/Sheri Determan

Reprising his role as Dewey Riley in ‘Scream 5′, the ex-husband of Courteney Cox insists to feel the present of his late pal on the set as he listened to the latter’s favorite music in between scenes.

    Nov 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – David Arquette has been having a “really hard time” grappling with the loss of his “Scream” director Wes Craven after returning to the horror franchise for a new sequel.
The actor has reunited with his real-life ex-wife, Courteney Cox, and Neve Campbell onscreen for “Scream 5”, but filming without Craven has been rough.
He shared his heartache in an interview with Britain’s The Independent, after he was reminded of a 1997 quote Craven had shared about the star, noting he was “definitely in pain” during the filming of the first four movies.
“When I’m around him, I feel this enormous sense of pain and longing for a simpler world – for love,” the director added at the time.
The 49-year-old grew emotional hearing the words of his old friend, who died in 2015, and said, “I’m sorry. I’ve been having a really hard time lately missing him.”

“That’s such a beautiful thing to say,” Arquette continued. “And, you know, I was tortured. My mother was dying around that time, so that was a really difficult and dark period.”
“And it’s true,” he added. “I do, like, long for a world of love.”
Arquette reprises his role as Dewey Riley in “Scream 5”, the first in the film series not directed by Craven, but the actor insists his presence was felt on set as he listened to the late legend’s favourite music in between scenes, and scrolled through his old Twitter account.
He explained he even began “looking up old tweets and who he followed because I wanted to follow who he followed.”
The fifth “Scream” film is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence.
It’s set for release in January, 2022.
