The ‘Titanic’ actress and the ‘Nixon’ actor are feted at the virtual ceremony of the Toronto International Film Festival along with another winner ‘Nomadland’ director Chloe Zhao.
    Sep 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Kate Winslet and Anthony Hopkins dedicated the awards they received at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) to frontline workers fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
The British actors both took part in the second annual TIFF Tribute Awards on Tuesday (15Sep20) night – a ceremony that was conducted virtually due to Covid-19.
The fundraiser featured an introduction from Martin Scorsese and featured presenters such as Ava DuVernay, Jodie Foster, and Olivia Colman – but the main honourees Anthony and Kate chose to celebrate healthcare workers in their video speeches.
“To be giving applause to anyone other than those who have and continued to be at the forefront of the battle against this virus across the world does feel decidedly out of place,” Kate, whose film “Ammonite” has screened at the festival, said.
Expressing her sympathies for those who have lost those close to them to Covid-19, she added, “I’d like to express my deepest sympathies to families and individuals whose lives have been forever altered by this past six months.”
Anthony also used his speech to thank those who have cared for those afflicted by the disease, saying, “I want to thank frontline workers, first responders, all over the world. This award is yours. So I thank you so much. From the bottom of my heart.”
Other honourees included director Chloe Zhao, whose film “Nomadland” has been a huge hit at the festival – and she received an introduction from Colin Farrell before accepting the TIFF Ebert Director Award.
The filmmaker, who is slated to direct the new Marvel movie “The Eternals”, shared after receiving her prize, “I feel incredibly lucky that the people I work with, they’re there when I’m succeeding and they’re there even more when I fail.”
Canadian singer Shawn Mendes also appeared at the online awards bash – a centrepiece of the festival, which continues until Sunday.

  • Jason Momoa Calls for 'Proper Investigation' Following Ray Fisher's Accusations Against Joss Whedon

    WENN

The ‘Aquaman’ actor urges bosses at Warner Brothers to conduct ‘proper investigation’ into claims that the former Marvel director is unprofessional and abusive.
    Sep 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – Jason Momoa has urged Warner Bros. bosses to conduct a “proper investigation” into his “Justice League” co-star Ray Fisher’s allegations that they were treated unprofessionally on the set of the superhero movie.
The “Aquaman” star previously offered his support to Fisher, who hit headlines when he claimed Joss Whedon’s treatment of the cast and crew on the film set was “gross, abusive, unprofessional and completely unacceptable” by posting on Instagram “#IStandWithRayFisher.”
Fisher sparked a feud with the studio after making it clear he would not be cooperating with an investigation into the misconduct claims he made against Whedon, who he alleged was “enabled” by producers Jon Berg and Geoff Johns, telling fans, “Thank you all for the support and for seeing through @wbpictures desperate and scattershot attempt to discredit me to continue protecting those in power.”
And on Monday (14Sep20), Momoa went into further details about how he’s backing Fisher as he reiterated his allegations about the bad treatment of the actors on the set.
“THIS S**T HAS TO STOP AND NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT @ray8fisher AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO EXPERIENCED WHAT HAPPEN UNDER THE WATCH OF @wbpictures NEEDS PROPER INVESTIGATION,” he wrote alongside a picture of himself and Fisher at a Comic-Con panel event for the film. “I just think it’s f**ked up that people released a fake Frosty announcement without my permission to try to distract from Ray Fisher speaking up about the s**tty way we were treated on Justice League reshoots.”
Momoa was referring to Warner Bros. announcement of an upcoming “Frosty the Snowman” movie, said to be produced by Berg and Johns, which he was reported to have taken the title role in. The announcement was made on the same day as Fisher’s initial claims.
He concluded his Instagram post by writing, “Serious stuff went down. It needs to be investigated and people need to be held accountable. #IStandWithRayFisher.”

The ‘Lovecraft Country’ actor has been cast for one of the lead roles in the upcoming ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ sequel opposite Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily.
    Sep 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Ant-Man 3” has added Jonathan Majors to its cast ensemble for a major role. The actor, best known for his portrayal of Atticus Freeman on HBO’s series “Lovecraft Country”, has been tapped to take on one of the lead roles in the upcoming Marvel movie.
The 31-year-old performer is set to play the super-villain Kang the Conqueror, according to Deadline which has been confirmed by other news outlets. A time-traveling entity, the fictional Marvel Comics character was ranked as IGN’s 65th-greatest comic book villain of all time in 2009.
Sources tell Deadline that “like with so many new characters in the MCU, there could be a twist with how the character is featured in future films.” Marvel Studios and Disney have not released a statement on Majors’ alleged casting report, but the sources believe that he is set to be one of the main villains in the next installment in the franchise.
Should the news be true, Majors will join Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly, who are set to reprise their roles as Ant-Man a.k.a. Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne respectively in the third “Ant-Man” movie. Peyton Reed, who directed the first two films, is also set to return behind the lens, with Jeff Loveness penning the script. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige will produce.
Majors rose to prominence after starring in the critically acclaimed independent feature film “The Last Black Man in San Francisco” (2019), for which he received an Independent Spirit Award nomination. He gained wider recognition after starring on the HBO series “Lovecraft Nation” and also took a part in Spike Lee’s 2020 movie “Da 5 Bloods”.
The Yale University graduate will next be seen in Netflix’s movie “The Harder They Fall”, where he plays the lead role of outlaw Nat Love. The film is currently in production. He has also been tapped to star in Black Label media’s “Devotion”.

  • Dwayne Johnson Returns to Film 'Red Notice' After Battle With COVID-19

    Instagram

The ‘Jumanji: The Next Level’ star revealed in early September that he, his wife and their two young daughters all tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
    Sep 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has returned to work on “Red Notice” after battling COVID-19 over the summer.
The action man’s brother-in-law and producing partner Hiram Garcia insists the star is in good health as he resumes work on the Netflix production.
“It’s been an incredible process and undertaking to get a production up-and-running,” he tells Variety. “Netflix has had the attitude that whatever it will take to keep things safe for the crew, they are 100 per cent behind.”
Johnson revealed earlier this month that himself, his wife and daughters Jasmine, four, and Tiana, two, all tested positive for the coronavirus.
“Testing positive for COVID-19 is a lot different than recovering from nasty injuries, getting evicted or being broke, which I’ve been more than a few times,” the movie star said. “I wish it was only me that tested positive. It was my entire family and it was a kick in the gut. We are good, we’re on the other end of it and no longer contagious. Thank God, we’re healthy.”

Johnson’s “Red Notice” co-star Ryan Reynolds documented his return to the film over the weekend, taking to Instagram to document the coronavirus testing process on set.

The ‘Born This Way’ hitmaker is reportedly in talks to play Emma Frost or White Queen who was previously played by January Jones in the 2011 installment ‘X-Men: First Class’.
    Sep 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Lady GaGa is reportedly circling a new X-Men character for an upcoming Marvel blockbuster.
The pop superstar, who showed off her acting skills in “A Star is Born”, is in talks to play Emma Frost aka the White Queen, according to We Got This Covered.
Frost was previously played by January Jones in 2011’s “X-Men: First Class”, but fans criticised the portrayal, insisting Jones’ character was not true to the character from the comics.
If she signs on, Gaga might not be the only singer suiting up for the new “X-Men” movie – Janelle Monae recently expressed interest in playing Storm, a mutant character previously portrayed by Halle Berry.
“A lot of women have played Storm and they’ve done an exceptional job, and I would love to be in that line of artists and get to do Storm justice,” she told Empire.
