      The Weeknd Dominates With Six Nominations at 2021 Juno Awards

      The ‘Blinding Lights’ hitmaker leads the nominations at the upcoming Juno Awards in his native country by scooping a total of six nods including Artist of the Year.

      AceShowbiz – R&B superstar The Weeknd is aiming to strike gold at the 2021 Juno Awards after landing six nominations.
      The singer will be competing for Artist of the Year, Single of the Year, and Album of the Year honours, as well as Songwriter of the Year, Contemporary R&B Recording of the Year, and the Juno Fan Choice trophy.
      Justin Bieber, Jessie Reyez, and JP Saxe each score five mentions while Celine Dion extends her total Juno Awards nominations to 75 after earning recognition in three more categories, including Album of the Year for “Courage”.
      Dion and The Weeknd will face off for the album prize with Bieber’s “Changes”, Ali Gatie’s “YOU”, and “Thanks for the Dance” from Leonard Cohen, while Dion, Gatie, Bieber, and Reyez will challenge The Weeknd for Artist of the Year.
      The 2021 Juno Awards, organised by officials at the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, will be held virtually on 16 May (21).
      The Weeknd’s Juno Awards nominations haul is another black eye for the bosses of Sunday’s (14Mar21) Grammy Awards, who failed to give the Super Bowl-headlining “Blinding Lights” singer a single nod.

      AceShowbiz – Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak have pleaded with the Grammy Awards bosses to let their new band Silk Sonic perform at the upcoming ceremony.
      The “24K Magic” star shared a note to the Recording Academy on his Twitter page on Sunday night, March 07, following Anderson’s outrage that the newly-formed Silk Sonic were not included on the list of performers for the 14 March ceremony.
      “Dear Grammys,” he wrote. “If you can see it in your hearts to allow two out of work musicians to perform at your show, we would really appreciate it.”
      “We just released a song and could really use the promotion right now. We have a lot riding on this record (and the Pelicans game next week, but that’s another story).”
      Insisting that Silk Sonic would follow all the COVID-19 protocols in place for the event, Mars continued, “We haven’t been able to perform for a while and we just want to sing. We’ll send in an audition tape and take as many covid tests as we need to. I promise we won’t be extra. We just really want a gig again. I hope you’ll consider this request and give us the opportunity to shine.”

      Mars’ letter to the Recording Academy came after Anderson urged his bandmate to “call me back” and address their absence from the performers list.
      “YO @BrunoMars WHAT THE F**k?!? Did you see this?!?! Call me back!!” he wrote, before adding: “Nah f**k that!” .Paak said in another tweet. “I haven’t seen my family in months!! I need this to work, You promised me!! Everybody join in!!! I need all of Twitter to help make this trend!! Come on @RecordingAcad #LetSilkSonicThrive.”
      The Recording Academy has yet to respond to Mars and Anderson’s pleas.
      If they were granted a performance spot at the Grammys, it’s likely they would perform Silk Sonic’s first single – “Leave The Door Open” – taken from their upcoming debut album “An Evening With Silk Sonic”.

      AceShowbiz – The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” has become the first hit to spend a year in the Billboard Hot 100 top 10. As Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” leads the U.S. countdown for an eighth week, the Canadian pop star is stealing all the headlines at number three by chalking up 52 weeks in the top flight.
      “Blinding Lights”, which was the Hot 100’s biggest hit of 2020, hit the top 10 in February, 2020, spent four weeks at number one in April and May, and has stayed in the top 10 ever since, bar two weeks in December when the track dipped to numbers 11 and 18.
      The Weeknd now has 13 more weeks in the top 10 with one hit than Post Malone, who notched up 39 weeks with “Circles” in 2019 and 2020. It has also extended its top five run to 43 weeks – 16 more than its nearest rival.

      Meanwhile, Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” becomes one of only seven tracks to spend its first eight weeks on the chart at the top after debuting at number one in January.
      Cardi B’s “Up” stays put at two on the new countdown, while Ariana Grande’s “34+35” and Chris Brown and Young Thug’s “Go Crazy” complete the new top five.

      Despite “Blinding Lights” success on music chart, The Weeknd failed to secure a single nomination at the 2021 Grammy Awards. In response to the snub, he told Billboard magazine, “If you were like, ‘Do you think the Grammys are racist?’ I think the only real answer is that in the last 61 years of the GRAMMYs, only 10 Black artists have won album of the year. I don’t want to make this about me. That’s just a fact.”

      AceShowbiz – Mary Wilson’s expanded version of her self-titled solo album is set to be posthumously released digitally.
      The Supremes co-founder – who remained a member of the legendary Motown group for 18 years until their split in 1977 – sadly passed away last month (February 2021) at her home in Las Vegas.
      And in celebration of what would have been the iconic singer’s 77th Birthday (March 6), “Mary Wilson: Expanded Edition” has been made available to pre-order.
      The LP was originally released on Motown in 1979 and Motown/UMe is honouring the legacy of the music legend with the release and further album projects she had planned.
      The collection includes eight bonus tracks, rare remixes and the new song, “Why Can’t We All Get Along”.
      What’s more, there are tracks intended to follow-up the album produced by studio wizard Gus Dudgeon.

      Just days before her death on February 8, Wilson revealed on YouTube she was working on new solo material.
      Her publicist Jay Schwartz confirmed the sad news of her passing from hypertensive atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease at her home in Henderson, Nevada.
      And Motown Records founder Berry Gordy said in a statement, “I was extremely shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of a major member of the Motown family, Mary Wilson of the Supremes.”
      “The Supremes were always known as the ‘sweethearts of Motown.’ Mary, along with Diana Ross and Florence Ballard, came to Motown in the early 1960s.”
      “After an unprecedented string of No. 1 hits, television and nightclub bookings, they opened doors for themselves, the other Motown acts, and many, many others.”
      The legendary band – which was founded at The Primettes in 1959, when Wilson was just 15 years old – were known for their huge hits including “You Can’t Hurry Love” and “Stop! In the Name of Love”.
      She was part of the original lineup alongside Diana Ross, Florence Ballard and Barbara Martin, who left before they became successful.

      AceShowbiz – A full performer lineup for the 2021 Grammy Awards has been unveiled. Taylor Swift, Cardi B and BTS (Bangtan Boys) are among those set to take the stage at the 63rd annual awards show, which is set to take place virtually on Sunday, March 14.
      Announcing the trio’s upcoming gigs was the Recording Academy on Sunday, March 7 via its official website and Instagram account. They will be joined by Megan Thee Stallion, DaBaby as well as 2020 big winner Billie Eilish, who have each received four nods at this year’s event.
      Also scheduled to perform at the music’s big night was Bad Bunny, Black Pumas, Mickey Guyton, Brandi Carlile, and Doja Cat. Other musicians, such as Haim, Post Malone, Miranda Lambert, Lil Baby, Brittany Howard, Dua Lipa, Chris Martin, John Mayer, Maren Morris, Roddy Ricch and Harry Styles, will headline the show as well.

      Along with the Instagram announcement, the Recording Academy officials penned, “We just revealed the full lineup for the 2021 #GRAMMYs!” They added, “This year artists will be coming together, while still safely apart, to play music for each other as a community and celebrate the music that unites us all.”

      Hosted by Trevor Noah, the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards will be broadcast live from 8 P.M. ET on March 14. Its pre-show ceremony will begin at 3 P.M. ET and hosted by R&B star Jhene Aiko. It was initially set to take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on 31 January, but COVID-19 concerns forced officials to put it on hold.
      This year’s ceremony will pay tribute to some independent music venues which were greatly impacted by the pandemic. Various awards will be presented by workers of The Troubadour and The Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, New York’s The Apollo Theater and Nashville’s The Station Inn.

The set leads the Billboard 200 chart for eighth consecutive weeks, making it one of only six country albums that have spent at least eight weeks in total at No. 1. The album earns 82,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending March 4, according to MRC Data.
      Of the number, SEA units comprise 75,000. It equals to 103.33 million on-demand streams of the album’s songs. Album sales are 6,000 units while the rest are in the form of TEA units. “Dangerous” also reaches a new milestone this week as it ties with Taylor Swift’s 2020 album “Folklore” for the second-most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in the last five years from all genres.
      Back to this week’s chart, The Weeknd’s compilation album “The Highlight” returns to the Top 10 as it ascends from No. 12 to No. 2 after earning 52,000 equivalent album units. Following it up is Pop Smoke’s former leader “Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon” that stays steady at No. 3 with 42,000 units.

      AceShowbiz – Yung Bleu has been steadily climbing the chart since being signed to Boosie Badazz’s label. Following his breakout single “Miss It”, he reached a new high with his recent offering “You’re Mines Still” as the track broke into the top 10 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
      In it, the Alabama rapper continued to do what he did best, alternating between rap and R&B. A confession of a guy who refused to move on from a toxic relationship, the song caught Drake’s attention and the Canadian star quickly jumped on the remix version.
      While Drizzy was keen to add his verses to the song, the collaboration almost did not happen after Bleu missed the superstar’s call. “I was so mad. I really thought it was over. I ended up texting him the next day and talking about it. But he was mad cool. Drake is a real genuine dude. He really doesn’t care how big you are. If he f**ks with it, he f**ks with it,” Bleu told Complex.

      Taken from 26-year-old Bleu’s mini album “Love Scars: The 5 Stages of Emotions”, the track additionally peaked at No. 19 on Billboard Hot 100 and reached No. 5 on Mediabase rhythmic and urban radio charts. It also climbed five spots to the eleventh position on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.
      As he showed his potential as a hitmaker, he moved up the ranks among newbies in the rap game. He has been named 2021’s artist to watch by influential magazines like PEOPLE and Billboard. Following his collaboration with Drake, he also has been getting a lot of offers from big stars in the industry.
      The artist, who teamed up with the likes of Lil Durk, YFN Lucci, Wiz Khalifa, and Kevin Gates in the past, opened up, “My DMs have been so crazy that I haven’t even had a chance to go through all of them. But I do have big follow-up work after this though. After this song, there’s another with a big artist.”

      AceShowbiz – Rita Ora became one of the first A-listers to perform live for thousands since the COVID pandemic shut down the music world, when she performed at the 2021 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in Australia on Saturday, March 6.
      The singer took to the stage at the Sydney Cricket Ground in front of 35,000 fans.
      Rita, who was already in Australia – working as a coach in the new season of TV talent show “The Voice”, came dressed to party in a plunging blue sequinned leotard, and played a medley of her hits, including “Let You Love Me” and “Bang Bang”.
      Speaking to the gathering crowd toward the end of her set, the “Anywhere” confessed, “I’m a little bit emotional.” She added, “This is my first show in a very, very long time so thank you.”

      Troye Sivan also made a splash during the Mardi Gras, as did singer Jack Vidgen.
      Hours after her performance, Ora thanked the Mardi Gras organizers for inviting her to headline the event, sharing a series of snaps via Instagram.
      “Thank you @sydneymardigras!!! It was an honor to perform at such an important event last night!” she captioned the shots. “I can’t put into words the love I have for the LGBTQIA+ community and last night will remain a special moment for me forever! Love you all.”

      While the event went on smoothly, Mardi Gras chief executive Albert Kruger revealed that it was almost canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. He went on to say, “This is actually better than any expectations we ever had.”
