Inside Tension Between Ashanti and Keyshia Cole During 'Verzuz' Battle

    Instagram

Meanwhile, Keyshia’s DJ explains why the ‘Love’ hitmaker was late for the highly-anticipated episode, noting that ‘she didn’t wanna come out ’cause her screen was blurry.’

    Jan 23, 2021
AceShowbiz – Ashanti and Keyshia Cole had their long-awaited “Verzuz” battle on Thursday, January 21. While the two singers offered fans such an epic battle while performing their hits, viewers couldn’t help but notice the growing tension between the two.
One of the tense moments was when Ashanti asked Keyshia, “KC can you hear me?” To that, the “Love” hitmaker responded, “I get to start it off.” After pausing a moment, Ashanti told Keyshia that she just started the last round before laughing. “No, no, no, I didn’t start, I didn’t start let’s go into that…,” Keyshia insisted as she tried to play her next song.
Ashanti was then seen smiling awkwardly before confirming with someone offscreen she had just gone with “I Should’ve Cheated”. Once again, she reminded Keyshia that she started first. The back and forth continued for a while.

Even before the battle kicked off, they started with a drama as they they were both late, leaving people to wait for about an hour. Explaining why Keyshia was late for the highly-anticipated episode was Keyshia’s DJ. “She didn’t wanna come out ’cause her screen was blurry,” the DJ said on 97.9 The Box.
“On her end, her screen was blurry. She was there on time. I seen everything. She was there but she didn’t wanna come out because the screen was blurry and stuff wasn’t right, you know. We couldn’t hear [Ashanti’s] side, so it was a lot of technical stuff going on there,” the DJ went on to explain.
Keyshia and Ashanti were initially set to go head-to-head on December 12, 2020. Fans, however, were forced to wait a little longer as it was pushed back due to Ashanti’s COVID-19 diagnosis. “Hey y’all I can’t believe I’m saying this but I tested positive for COVID-19,” the “Foolish” singer told fans. “I’m ok and not in any pain. I’m actually down to do the verzuz from my house… we’re tring (sic) to figure it all out!!!”
However, earlier this month, the show announced that the song battle was delayed again as it would be moved to separate locations. “This has been an emotional week. In addition, as COVID-19 numbers continue to increase, safety is a top priority for us,” the show, which hails from Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, announced on Instagram on Friday, January 8. “As much as we enjoy having everyone together in the same room, to protect the artists and everyone who works with us in putting the shows together, we’ll be going back to separate locations for a bit.”

Sabrina Carpenter Seemingly Responds to Olivia Rodrigo's 'Drivers License' on New Song 'Skin'

    Instagram

Fans are convinced that the ‘Girl Meets World’ alum addresses the alleged love triangle between her, the ‘Drivers License’ hitmaker and her co-star Joshua Bassett in her own song.

    Jan 23, 2021
AceShowbiz – Sabrina Carpenter seemed to be sharing her side of the story on the love triangle drama surrounding her and Olivia Rodrigo. A few weeks after the latter dropped “Drivers License” which was believed to be a breakup anthem over her split from Joshua Bassett, the former appeared to make a response through her own brand new song.
The “Girl Meets World” alum released “Skin” on Thursday, January 21. Near the top of its lyrics, she sang, “Maybe we could have been friends/ If I met you in another life/ Maybe then we could pretend/ There’s no gravity in the words we write/ Maybe you didn’t mean it/ Maybe blonde was the only rhyme/ The only rhyme.”

Sabrina appeared to confirm that she was the “blonde” girl mentioned in Olivia’s “Drivers License”. In the hit track itself, Olivia belted, “And you’re probably with that blonde girl/ Who always made me doubt/ She’s so much older than me/ She’s everything I’m insecure about.”

“Skin” has sent Twitter into a frenzy. One speculated, “Sabrina Carpenter just released her new song ‘Skin’ and it is definitely a shade to Olivia’s ‘drivers license’.” Another wrote, “WAIT OKAY OLIVIA JUST RELEASED ‘DRIVERS LICENSE’ A MONTH AGO AND THEN WE HAD JOSHUA BASSETT CREATED A SONG CALLED ‘LIE LIE LIE’ AND NOW WE HAVE SABRINA CARPENTER WITH A SONG CALLED ‘SKIN’ ????”
The shading theories did not stop there. More have since shared their two cents on the matter with one stating, “Sabrina Carpenter threw that shade at Olivia wow.” Someone else echoed similar sentiment, “not sabrina carpenter dropping a song and throwing shade towards ‘drivers license’.”
Despite the swirling speculations, Sabrina has her own explanation when it comes to her new song. According to PEOPLE, the 21-year-old singer and actress wanted to reflect on the strength amid challenges and the importance of focusing on joy.

Joshua Bassett praised Sabrina Carpenter new song ‘Skin’.
Shortly after Sabrina dropped “Skin”, Joshua added more fuel to their love triangle drama by praising Sabrina for her new song. The “High School Musical: The Musical” actor shared on Instagram Story, “been stuck in my head since I heard it!!! Congratulations @sabrinacarpenter on ‘skin’, the new label, & all that’s to come!!!”

DaniLeigh Defends Her Mixed Heritage After Accused of Colorism in New Song 'Yellow Bone'

    Instagram

The ‘Breakfast Can Wait’ singer unapologetically responds to the backlash after she shares a preview of her upcoming music, which she claims she composed to celebrate ‘my light skin baddies.’

    Jan 22, 2021
AceShowbiz – It’s quiet a rowdy day for DaniLeigh. While she attempted to entertain her fans by teasing her new music, her good intention has backfired. The R&B songstress has come under fire after she shared a preview of her upcoming song “Yellow Bone”.
Many accused the Miami-born artist of colorism in the song, which she claimed she composed to celebrate “my light skin baddies.” The critics mostly pointed out her Dominican heritage and took issue with her use of terms typically associated with the black community to describe herself.
One of the critics was social media and digital media marketing strategist Karen Civil, who tweeted, “Danileigh could’ve kept that song in the trash…” Another challenged her claim about being partly black, “me trying to find where the black coming from….”

Defending her claim, DaniLeigh insisted, “I’m Dominican… I’m Spanish, I’m black I’m white .. leave me alone.”
But people were not buying it, with one asking, “since when was spanish a race…?” Another reminded DaniLeigh, “you are caucasian.” Someone else had a harsher comment, writing, “Dani Leigh is not a yellow bone she is a snow possum. Another Afro Latino with no Afro.”
“Don’t lie now … we seen ur parents,” another claimed. Someone else said, “I knew Dani Leigh was sick in the head after she lied on my sister,” referring to DaniLeigh’s previous tweet about an encounter with Beyonce Knowles.

But DaniLeigh stood by her ground and clapped back at the haters in a series of now-deleted tweets. “Why can’t I make a song about for my light skin baddies ?? Why y’all think I’m hating on other colors when there are millions of songs speaking on all types.. why y’all so sensitive & take it personal .. gahhhh damn,” she explained her intention.

      See also…

“Congratulations y’all gotta another thing to say about me when u hate … it’s all good ..,” she wrote in another post. “only God can ‘cancel’ me… that s**t don’t mean s**t to me bc the people around me are the ones that know my heart and intention and real life … I’m sorry if I offended u.”
Refusing to be dragged down, she added, “Ima keep letting God bless me .. while y’all sit back and judge me && sit behind y’all lil phones and type s**t about another woman .. y’all all HATERS. YALL DON’T KNOW ME.”

“And I said is what he want !!!!” she insisted. “Not what the world want … I’m talking about myself … stop playing w me . Y’all NOT FOR ME. Done talking .. bout to post how fine I looked yesterday.”
Also weighing in on the controversial song was Future’s baby mama Eliza Reign. “I try not to speak on every lil thing I see on the net, but Forreal, it’s already enough division with black people,” she wrote, disagreeing with DaniLeigh’s intention with the song. “It’s 2021, why people with platforms out here telling their fans they have a preferred skin tone?”
Calling it “a touchy subject,” Eliza explained what’s wrong with DaniLeigh’s lyrics while shading her, “but then again we shouldn’t expect a person who isn’t even black (redbone or chocolate) to understand how it’s offensive.” She pointed out, “Redbones are lighter toned black women by the way not Hispanic but go off mami.”

Another schooled DaniLeigh about the difference between a “yellow bone” and a “red bone,” to which the singer admitted her mistake as replying, “damn my bad.”

The music video of the stripped-back track is directed by Nabil, who has previously worked with musicians such as Kanye West, Frank Ocean and FKA twigs among others. “Dime si me echas de meno’ aun (Tell me if you still miss me),” Rosalia sings. Billie, who sings mostly in Spanish on the track, revealed during her appearance on Apple Music’s Zane Lowe on Thursday, January 21 that she involved her entire family when she worked on the English lyrics. In addition to her brother and collaborator Finneas, the Grammy-winning artist sat down with her mother and father in the studio after their Friday tradition of dinner for the final English lyrics.
“So my mom, my dad, Finneas, me, Finneas’ girlfriend Claudia, we all came down to the studio, and we listened, and me and Finneas were like, ‘Should we just write this line right now?’ ” the Grammy-winning artist shared. “So I was sitting in the room with my entire family. We both, all of us, including my dad and my mom, they were like, ‘What if it was like….’ We were all giving ideas. So technically they should have a writing credit, because we all wrote that line right at the end.”
Billie added that she managed to convince Rosalia to let her sing in Spanish. “I remember when we were writing the song, I remember her saying something about, ‘It should be in English.’ And I was like, ‘No, no, no. It should be in Spanish. It’s so beautiful.’ And I’ve always loved music that isn’t in English,” the “Bad Guy” singer told Zane. “I like tons of music from languages I don’t even speak. … I’ve been really intrigued by it pretty much my whole life. There’s so many Russian songs I like, and Spanish and French.”
