      AceShowbiz – Sia has once again defended her casting of Maddie Ziegler in her film “Music”, hailing the move “nepotism.”
      The “Cheap Thrills” hitmaker recently faced controversy because of the casting of her frequent collaborator as an autistic girl (Music) who moves in with her newly-sober half-sibling Zu (Kate Hudson) – despite the fact the 18-year-old star isn’t autistic herself.
      And after passionately defending the casting on Twitter, Sia once again opened up about the controversy during an interview on Australia’s The Sunday Project, explaining, “I realised it wasn’t ableism. I mean, it is ableism I guess as well, but it’s actually nepotism because I can’t do a project without her. I don’t want to. I wouldn’t make art if it didn’t include her.”

      Maddie – who has starred in many of Sia’s music videos, including the promos for “Elastic Heart” and “Chandelier” – feared people would think she was “making fun” of autistic people.
      “I bold-facedly said, ‘I won’t let that happen,’ ” Sia insisted, but added that she’s come to realise she cannot “protect” Maddie from criticism.
      “Last week, I realised I couldn’t really protect her from that, which I thought I could. We sent it off to the Child Mind Institute and she received 100 per cent as performance accuracy. I realise that there are some things I can’t protect her from as much as I try,” Sia sighed.
      The movie originally starred Shia LaBeouf who co-starred with Maddie Ziegler in Sia’s “Elastic Heart” music video, but the “Honey Boy” actor was ditched by the singer following abuse allegations made by former girlfriend FKA twigs.

      The actress and model has revealed she has been working on her music during the Covid-19 pandemic and is excited to release it for the world to hear.
      “I’m making an album, which is cool, and there’s little things happening with it,” she told The Daily Mail’s Eden Confidential column. “I like collaborating with a feast of friends. I like lo-fi ‘dream pop’, but also simple folk.”

      Suki – who is dating “The Batman” star Robert Pattinson – released the single “Brutally” in 2016 but it failed to make the top 200.
      The song was a massive flop for the star as eight weeks after its release, it had only been downloaded 296 times, although it did achieve 300,000 streams.
      “Suki never expected to be near the Top 10 but she’s bound to be disappointed with the figures,” a source said at the time. “She’s very passionate about music and obviously can put more of her personality into her lyrics than she can with modelling. But Suki clearly has a lot of work to do if she wants to build up a following with the help of her tunes.”
      Prior to this, it was reported that the British model was enjoying quarantining together with her actor beau. “They’re making the most of self-isolating, that’s for sure,” a source claimed to In Touch back in December. As to whether they’re planning to bring their relationship to a more serious level, the source shared. “They’ll get married at some point, but they’re in no rush.”

      AceShowbiz – Blake Shelton is under fire after debuting his new song titled “Minimum Wage”. Many people weren’t impressed with the song and called it insensitive considering how numerous people in America are currently struggling financially amid the coronavirus pandemic.
      The fiance of Gwen Stefani debuted the track during his appearance on NBC’s New Year’s Eve television special with “The Voice” host Carson Daly ahead of 2021. Blake revealed that Gwen helped him get her brother Todd to direct the visuals of the new song.
      “Girl, your love can make a man feel rich on minimum wage,” Blake croons on the song. Many felt like the song was such a tone deaf song as many were forced to shut down their business or being fired due to the pandemic.

      The new album was described a sister album to her previous set “Folklore”. She explained, “I’ve never done this before. In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning.”
      Although “Evermore” was released less than a year after “Folklore”, Taylor insisted she didn’t rush the creative process. After breaking a lot of milestones with her previous sets, she took her time as she struggled with a lot of pressures to top herself and craft particular types of songs.

      After much contemplation, she decided to take an unusual route with her new music and threw away her “checklist.” She explained, “I thought, ‘Wait, this could be an opportunity for me to do things in a way I haven’t ever done them before. What would my work sound like if I took away all of my fear-based check listing that I have inflicted on myself?’ ”
      The Grammy-winning singer/songwriter took the risk and it paid off. Both albums entered the first positions on Hot 200, making her the third female artist to have eight chart-topping albums behind music icons Barbra Streisand (11) and Madonna (9).
      When “Evermore” debuted atop the Billboard chart, “Folklore” also gained a new steam and sat at the third place. The feat made the “Blank Space” hitmaker the first woman to simultaneously place her two albums in the top-three since the music chart was launched back in 1963.

It bows with 100,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending December 31, 2020, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
      Of the sum, 90,000 are in the form of SEA units which equals to 126.43 million on-demand streams of the album’s songs. Meanwhile, album sales comprise 10,000 with TEA units comprising the rest of the equivalent album units earned by the new 24-track album.
      Back to this week’s Billboard 200 chart, former leader Taylor Swift’s “Evermore” dips to No. 2 in its third week with 71,000 equivalent album units earned. As for No. 3, it is occupied by Lil Durk’s “The Voice”, marking the rapper’s third top 10 effort. The album soars high from No. 46 to No. 3 with 66,000 equivalent album units earned after its first full tracking week.

      Taylor’s “Folklore” also steps up from No. 8 to No. 6 with 35,000 units. Megan Thee Stallion’s “Good News” is behind her at No. 7 after earning 34,000 equivalent album units.
      At No. 8 is Luke Combs’ “What You See Is What You Get”, which jumps from No. 19 to the position with nearly 34,000 units. Closing out the Top 10 this week are Bad Bunny’s “El Ultimo Tour del Mundo” and Eminem’s “Music to Be Murdered By”. “El Ultimo Tour del Mundo” rises from No. 16 to No. 9 with almost 34,000 units while “Music to Be Murdered By” falls significantly from No. 3 to No. 10 with 33,000 units earned.

      The festive favourite sets a new chart record as the longest time taken for a single to hit the top spot – it was originally released back in 1984. Tony Christie’s “(Is This the Way to) Amarillo” was the last holder of that record, at 33 years and four months.
      “Last Christmas”, which rises from three to one, marks the first time in 24 years a song by the tragic singer has topped the countdown – the pop legend, who died on Christmas Day (25Dec) in 2016, last achieved the feat in 1996 with “Jesus to a Child”.

      AceShowbiz – Journey star Neal Schon’s cover of Prince’s “Purple Rain” for his new solo album, “Universe”, was a full circle moment for the guitarist, as the late music icon’s anthem was inspired by the band’s song “Faithfully”.
      Schon’s bandmate Jonathan Cain recalls Prince reaching out to him back in 1984 and playing “Purple Rain”, admitting the chord changes resembled those on Faithfully – and he didn’t want the rockers to sue him.
      “He said, ‘I want to play something for you, and I want you to check it out…’,” Cain tells Billboard. “I thought it was an amazing tune, and I told him, ‘Man, I’m just super-flattered that you even called. It shows you’re that classy of a guy. Good luck with the song. I know it’s gonna be a hit’.”

      Cain was rewarded with “amazing seats” on Prince’s “Purple Rain” tour. “I thought it was ridiculous how cool it was,” he adds.
      Schon initially released his “Purple Rain” cover to mark Prince’s birthday in June (2019) and performed the song at a tribute show in Minnesota later the same month. Alongside the audio, Schon’s friend Rick Barron wrote an anecdote that read, “Late ’80s and I am sitting with Prince on the floor in his apartment at Paisley Park. We’ve listened to Joni Mitchell, Peter Gabriel.”
      He went on to share, “I notice a worn Journey Escape record in his collection. Surprised, I turned to him and said, ‘Never took you for a Journey fan.’ He gave me that doe-eyed look that always made me uncomfortable and said: ‘Neal Schon is one of my favorite guitarists on the planet. … He is a genius.’ ”
      “Neal’s beautiful interpretation makes the loss of the colossal talent of ‘P’ a little less sad. They are each prodigy’s that have woven themselves into the fabric of our lives and our lives are richer as a result,” Barron concluded.

      On January 1, the singer and cosmetic mogul treated her fans to pictures of her looking stunning in sparkling two-piece green dress. The pictures saw the Barbados-born musician posing by the pool in what seemed to be her mansion in her native country. “new year’s resolution: apply the pressure,” so she captioned the pics.

      One fan, however, thought that Rihanna should have made another thing her resolution for this year. “Resolution should be releasing the album,” the fan wrote in the comment section, referring to the singer’s long-rumored and now-infamous album “R9”. Another fan similarly added, “Speaking of pressure, it’s the album for me.”

      Rihanna caught wind of the comments and decided to respond to the first user. “this comment is sooo 2019,” the Fenty Cosmetics founder wrote back to the fan, before urging her to “grow up.” She doubled down on her response as she replied again, “2021 energy,” alongside laugh-crying and flexed bicep emojis.

      Fans initially speculated that the album might be coming soon as Skylar Grey shared a snippet of a song she’d revealed that she worked on with Diplo for the “Diamonds” hitmaker’s album. According to Grey, she and Diplo collaborated on the song “when Rihanna was supposedly doing some kind of reggae album.”
      Prior to this, Rihanna sparked chatter after she shared a mysterious video on Instagram, seemingly hinting at the project. “Update: me listening to R9 by myself and refusing to release it,” she wrote back in late December 2019 alongside a clip of a small white dog energetically head-banging to House of Pain’s classic cut “Jump Around”.
      That aside, Rihanna is currently enjoying the new year celebration in Barbados with her rumored boyfriend A$AP Rocky. In one picture that circulated online, the lovebirds were snapped enjoying a four-person rider tube called the Sportsstuff Great Big Mable on the water on Monday, December 28. Putting her hands around her man’s waist on a yacht, Rihanna was also seen leaning in to give him a kiss.
