Shawn Mendes' 'Wonder' Marks His Fourth No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart

This week’s chart also sees five holiday albums charting in the Top 10 which is the first since 2013, while Bad Bunny’s history-making album ‘El Ultimo Tour del Mundo’ falls one spot.

    Dec 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Shawn Mendes’ new album “Wonder” debuts atop the Billboard 200 chart. The new set, which was released by Island Records on December 4, earns 89,000 equivalent album units in the tracking week ending December 3, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
Of the sum, 54,000 are in album sales while SEA units comprise 34,000 that equals to 46.92 million on-demand streams of the album’s songs. Meanwhile, about 1,000 are in the form of TEA units. “Wonder” marks the Canadian singer’s fourth album to debut at No. 1, joining “Handwritten”, “Illuminate” and his self-titled third studio album which was dropped on June 9, 2018.
Trailing behind “Wonder” is last week’s leader Bad Bunny’s history-making album “El Ultimo Tour del Mundo”. It dips one spot to No. 2 after earning 57,000 equivalent album units. Following it up at No. 3 is Ariana Grande’s “Positions” which ascends to No. 3 with just over 55,000 equivalent album units earned.

Occupying No. 4 is Michael Buble’s “Christmas”, rising from No. 6 to No. 4 after earning 55,000 equivalent album units. Michael’s album isn’t the only holiday albums in the Top 10 this week as it joins Carrie Underwood’s “My Gift” that soars from No. 9 to No. 5 with 53,000 equivalent album units, Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Song” that takes the No. 7 with 42,000 equivalent album units, and Pentatonix’s “The Best of Pentatonix Christmas” that occupies No. 8. The group’s album returns to the Top 10 after earning 39,000 equivalent album units, while Mariah Carey’s “Merry Christmas” rounds out the Top 10 with 38,000 units earned.

Back in 2013, Kelly Clarkson’s “Wrapped in Red” took the No. 3 spot while The Robertsons’ “Duck the Halls: A Robertson Family Christmas” was at No. 5. Pentatonix’s “PTXmas (EP)” was at No. 7, Michael’s “Christmas” was at No. 8 and Mary J. Blige’s “A Mary Christmas” closed out the Top 10.
Back to this week’s chart, Pop Smoke’s “Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon” is among the remaining non-Christmas album. The posthumous album dips from No. 5 to No. 6 with 47,000 equivalent album units. Meanwhile, Megan Thee Stallion’s debut album “Good News” falls from No. 7 to No. 9 after earning just over 39,000 equivalent album units.

Tom Morello Recalls Learning 250 Songs Before Touring With Bruce Springsteen

    WENN/Jaime Espinoza/Apega

The Rage Against the Machine guitarist opens up he had to learn over 200 songs before going on a tour with the ‘Born to Run’ hitmaker and the E Street Band.

    Dec 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tom Morello “learned 250 songs” before his first tour with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band- but it still wasn’t enough.
The Rage Against the Machine guitarist – who was part of the “Born to Run” musician’s legendary touring group from 2008 to 2015 – admitted he still felt unprepared for the frontman’s habit of taking random requests from the audience.
Responding to a fan asking about the “initiation ritual” for the band, he told Uncut magazine, “The E Street Band was one of the greatest live rock bands in the world for 40 years before I played with them, so my main job was not to ruin a perfectly good thing.”
“I learned 250 songs before departing for the first tour, so I guess that would be the induction. And still, it wasn’t enough.”
“Bruce would often surprise us by taking requests from the crowd – and sometimes they weren’t even Bruce Springsteen songs. When we were in Australia, we played songs by INXS, the Bee Gees…”
Tom insisted none of the band members has any idea how the setlist will go, and The Boss would even change the “arrangements” on the fly.

He added, “No one in the band knows what the next song is, ever.”
“And the arrangements of the songs are also not carved in stone, so you never know when it might be time for a guitar solo. It really kept me on my toes.”
Nowadays, Morello has to keep up with his children, and he admitted his 11-year-old is more into modern hip-hop than rock music.
He said, “As a young person it’s imperative that you like music that your parents don’t really understand.”
“In the same way that KISS and Black Sabbath made my mom raise an eyebrow, I raise that same eyebrow, but I have to push it down.”
“My nine-year-old loves classic rock, for him it’s Zeppelin and Floyd and AC/DC… but sometimes it’s so loud.”

Swift stunned fans last week (ends11Dec20) by announcing she was releasing “Evermore” – her second surprise album of the year – on Friday.
“Ever since I was 13, I’ve been excited about turning 31 because it’s my lucky number backwards, which is why I wanted to surprise you with this now,” she wrote on Instagram when revealing the track list. “You’ve all been so caring, supportive and thoughtful on my birthdays and so this time I thought I would give you something!”
She explained her new album tackled an “‘unhappily ever after’ anthology of marriages gone bad that includes infidelity, ambivalent toleration, and even murder…One starring my grandmother, Marjorie, who still visits me sometimes…if only in my dreams.”

Snoop Dogg Responds to Offset's Clapback Over 'WAP' Criticism

    WENN/Nicky Nelson/Avalon

Snoop’s Instagram post arrives after the Migos rapper reacts to his negative review of Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s hit song, which earns some criticism due to its raunchy lyrics.

    Dec 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Snoop Dogg has sparked chatter over his comments on Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s smash hit “WAP” that earned mixed reviews from listeners. His negative opinion on the explicit song prompted Cardi’s husband Offset to chime in as he defended the Grammy-winning raptress.
When asked by TMZ in Beverly Hills, California, the Migos member respectfully addressed Snoop’s comment on his wife’s song. “I love Snoop, man. [Cardi B is] grown,” Offset said. “I don’t get in females business, so Ima just stay at that. I hate when men do that. I don’t do that.”
“I don’t care if a girl woulda said something bad about me. I just don’t get in females business,” so the “Ghostface Killers” rapper went on to add.
    [embedded content]
Snoop apparently caught wind of the response. The veteran rapper immediately took to his Instagram account to address the matter, clarifying his stance even though he didn’t explicitly name-drop Offset. “Stop with the bulls**t press I love Cardi b and Meg,” he wrote on Sunday, December 13.

“Music period point blank and they know that I’m n full support of the female. M. C. Movement so stop trying to make me a hater. U. F. D. H. B. Now carry on Before u get this. L. A. D,” he continued. Urging people to just highlight the femcees’ achievement through the song, Snoop added, “That song 6xs platinum talk about that.”

The “Mac and Devin Go to High School” actor shared his two cents on “WAP” during his virtual interview with host Julissa Bermudez for Central Ave on Thursday, December 10. Alluding that the song is too raunchy for his taste, Snoop opined, “Oh my God. Slow down. Like, slow down. And let’s have some imagination. Let’s have some, you know, privacy, some intimacy where he wants to find out as opposed to you telling him.”
“To me it’s like, it’s too fashionable when that in secrecy, that should be a woman’s…that’s like your pride and possession. That’s your jewel of the Nile. That’s what you should hold onto. That should be a possession that no one gets to know about until they know about it,” he further said.
Referring to his 21-year-old daughter, Snoop continued, “My daughter is from a different era, though.” The “Ain’t No Fun (If the Homies Can’t Have None)” rapper added, “She’s from this era. She may be doing the ‘WAP’ or, you know what I’m saying, a part of the ‘WAP,’ but I can’t be mad at her ’cause it’s her generation, you know what I’m saying? But, at the same time, the things that I would rather see, you know, ’cause I’ma older man…”
“Now, when I was young, 21, 22, I may have been with the movement,” the “B****es Ain’t S**t” spitter added. “I probably would have been on the remix. But as an older man, I love it, that they are expressing themselves and doing their thing. I just don’t want it that fashionable to where young girls express themselves like that without even knowing that that is a jewel that they hold onto until the right person comes around.”

Gavin Rossdale Afraid of Embarrassing His Kids With 'Dud Record'

    Instagram

The Bush frontman talks about what inspires him to make music, saying he doesn’t want to make ‘a dud record’ out of fear of embarrassing his four children.

    Dec 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Gavin Rossdale is “inspired” by his children.
The 55-year-old singer has three sons – Kingston, 14, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, six – with his ex-wife Gwen Stefani, as well as being father to 31-year-old model Daisy Lowe, and has said he always makes music with the goal of impressing his kids.
“I always maintain this idea that they inspire me enough that I just would be horrified if I sucked, or made a record that they could go to their friend’s house and feel some sense of pride in … They up the ante. You don’t want to be bringing in a dud record,” he told RADIO.com.

      See also…

Gavin also admitted he’s been missing his brood amid the coronavirus pandemic as his sons have been spending most of their time with their mother as it’s safer than continually changing homes.
And he then joked, “But then I come back and they’re fine, and still want sushi which apparently isn’t free …”
The Bush frontman also reflected on how the pandemic has changed his way of thinking when it comes to germs, particularly when it comes to meet and greets where he would typically meet with over 100 fans at a time.
“To be honest, I was always slightly confused. I love meeting people; I do these meet & greets … but just shaking so many people’s hands. I was always like, it’s such a funny thing, isn’t it? A custom of having to touch each other. Why can’t we say, ‘hey?’ Why do we have to touch the whole time? I don’t have issues, and I’m not weird about it … but you meet 150 people at a meet & greet every night. That’s a lot of people, a lot of traffic, a lot of hands,” he mused.

The artists will take to three stages at the iconic London venue, performing Amazon Original Christmas songs and answering questions from host Edith Bowman and viewers.

Madison Beer Blasts 'Disrespectful Boyfriend' on New Song

    Instagram

The ‘Good in Goodbye’ singer urges her fans to know their worth and leave a toxic relationship on a new song from her upcoming debut album ‘Life Support’.

    Dec 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Madison Beer takes aim at a “disrespectful boyfriend” on her latest single, “BOYS***”.
The 22-year-old singer has dropped the latest track from her upcoming debut studio album, “Life Support”, and revealed the song is about “knowing your worth” and when it’s time to exit an unhealthy relationship.
The lyrics include, “One too many times I let you ruin my life / ’cause I thought you would change but I see it now.”
    [embedded content]
Speaking of what inspired the track, she said, “BOYS*** is one of the last songs I recorded for my album, and it was just kind of a build up after this really long year.”

      See also…

“It’s simply about knowing your worth and when to leave a situation. With the play on ‘bull***’ I figured it was the perfect time to use the age old saying about an immature or disrespectful boyfriend, ‘he’s not a man, he’s a boy,’ but it then flourished into more. This isn’t as simple as a childish man, it’s deeper than that.”
“Anyone can behave in a ‘BOY***’ manner and I think there’s something to be said about knowing when enough is enough and when you’re truly just feeding into nonsense, I think a lot of that is knowing your worth. This song is meant to uplift and inspire people, of all genders, to know when it’s time to stop putting up with boy***.”
“BOYS***” follows the release of tracks “Good in Goodbye”, “Selfish”, and “Stained Glass”.
The latter single saw Madison open up about the “scrutiny” she has faced in her life and call for everyone to “be more gentle and not judge so hard.”
“Life Support” is released on next February (21).
