Artist of the Week: Tory Lanez

Having the abilities to combine rapping and R’n’B production beautifully, the Toronto-born musician knows how to turn edgy subject matter into melodic, beautiful songs.
    Apr 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Musicians usually stick to one genre and there are very rare cases where they succeed in fusing two genres of music. However, Tory Lanez isn’t one of them. He knows how to turn edgy subject matter in melodic, beautiful songs, in addition to combining rapping and R&B production. As a result of that, he puts out several hits such as “Say It” and “Luv”.
Earlier this month, Tory released the new installment of his “New Toronto” series as people continued to camp inside amid the pandemic. It debuted at No. 2 on Billboard 200, marking his fifth top ten album on the chart. Meanwhile, on the Canadian Albums chart, the album arrived atop the tally and became his second No. 1 debut in the country. In addition to that, the album received favorable reviews from music critics.
This achievement truly brought joy to the Toronto native, who didn’t expect to receive such a result back when he first unleashed the record. “It’s a mixtape. I don’t even know how!” he said in an interview with Billboard. “I didn’t promote it. I put out a cover to it like a week before it came out. I thought it was gonna sell like 10,000.”
“The New Toronto 3” marked Tory’s final release with Interscope Label and is also a follow-up to his 2019 mixtape “Chixtape 5”. Heavily inspired by Chris Brown’s album “Indigo”, the album was described as “closest thing [he’s] been able to give […] that had somewhat of the quality” his future music had.
The album additionally received positive reviews from critics. For instance, Billboard claimed that the musician thrust himself into the conversation as one of the genre’s slickest crooners through the album. It also debuted within the top three on Billboard 200, securing the second place with 83,000 equivalent album units.

Diddy in Talks With Dr. Dre to Make Viral Verzuz Challenge Happen

    Instagram

During an Instagram Live chat with rapper Fat Joe, the Bad Boy Records founder shares his thought on the virtual beat battle created by producers Timbaland and Swizz Beatz.
    Apr 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Sean “P. Diddy” Combs is working to make fans’ dreams of a virtual beat battle between himself and fellow rap mogul Dr. Dre come true.
The Bad Boy Records founder, also known as Diddy, has emerged as a favourite to take part in a future round of the viral Verzuz challenge, created by producers Timbaland and Swizz Beatz, that pits two artists up against one another as they go hit-for-hit online.
Previous remote rounds, launched to keep music fans engaged during the coronavirus pandemic, have featured hip-hop stars such as T-Pain and Lil Jon, RZA and DJ Premier, and most recently, Teddy Riley and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, and Swizz recently suggested Diddy and Dre go head-to-head on Instagram Live for a real superstar clash, just like pay-per-view fights on TV.
“We need Dr. Dre versus P. Diddy pay-per-view for the culture. Let’s bring the two kings in and give back to the people,” Swizz declared, insisting it would be a “celebration, not a battle.”

Diddy has since expressed his interest in getting involved, and he’s reached out to Dre to discuss the proposal.

“We’re definitely talking about it,” Diddy shared during an Instagram Live chat with rapper Fat Joe on Friday (April 24). “You heard it here. You heard it here on the show.”

Niall Horan Writes Love Song About Coronavirus Lockdown Romance

    WENN

The One Direction singer reveals he takes inspiration for the new love song he penned during lockdown from a classic ballad called ‘Hey There Delilah’ by the Plain White T’s.
    Apr 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – Niall Horan has penned a love ballad about what it’s like to try and start a romance in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Irish musician is holed up in London seeing out the crisis, having been forced to cancel his world tour due to lockdown restrictions limiting large gatherings in countries across the world.
However, Niall’s not wasting the enforced time as he’s practising his baking and penning new hits – including a social distancing love song that takes inspiration from the Plain White T’s “Hey There Delilah”, a ballad that tells the story of an unfulfilled transatlantic romance.
“I’m in London in my apartment, cooking – I’m making a Victoria sponge right now – and writing a lot: two songs yesterday,” the One Direction alumni tells The Guardian. “I had to cancel my tour, so I might as well go on the hunt for a big song. I started writing a Hey There Delilah-type one about when this is all over, called, well, ‘When This Is All Over’, and I was also writing about the idea of meeting someone without actually meeting them, and getting to know them because of this crisis.”
Niall, who is single after a split from Hailee Steinfeld but has been linked to stars including Selena Gomez, says that there are actually benefits to dating from afar.
“It’s an odd one: it’s actually a good way to get to know someone,” he adds. “Usually, say you went to a bar for a date, you’re probably drunk after five drinks and you forget everything you’ve learned about them. Now, you actually have time to ask questions. There’s no romances as of yet, but I wouldn’t mind if they started to blossom.”
