FINNEAS Spills Story Behind Tribute Song to Nick Cordero's Widow During 'The Talk' Performance

    Instagram

During their chat about ‘Can’t Wait to Be Dead’ on the talk show, Amanda Kloots admits Billie Eilish’s songwriter brother impressed her for being able to make the song without ever meeting her.

    Feb 17, 2021
AceShowbiz – Singer/songwriter FINNEAS performed his tribute to Nick Cordero on the widow of the Broadway star’s show “The Talk” on Tuesday, February 16.
Billie Eilish’s brother released “Can’t Wait to Be Dead” in October 2020 and explained the track was partly inspired by Amanda Kloots’ updates about her actor husband’s COVID-19 battle, before he died in July.
“I’d been following Amanda Kloots as she documented her husband Nick Cordero’’s time in the ICU while in a coma after being admitted for COVID-19,” he told WENN. “Imagining her sitting by his side, waiting, hopeful for him to wake up, it got me thinking about all the millions of people, all over the world, who also have loved ones, parents, children and extended family members going through the same thing.”
And on Tuesday, he performed the track on Kloots’ daytime show, explaining he wrote the tune last summer after spending the day protesting in Los Angeles with his girlfriend and sister Billie.

“I’d come home from these protests every day and immediately check my phone to look at Amanda’s Instagram to see how her husband, Nick, was doing,” FINNEAS said. “Pretty much anything I feel overwhelmed by, I end up writing about… to document how I’m feeling.”

Kloots said, “When you listen to this song as much as I have, you hear this incredible heartbeat kick in in the song and then there’s this part where it really kinda feels you are mimicking the sirens of the protests that you were at and it literally takes me back to that moment of being in the hospital and holding Nick’s hand and looking out the window and seeing army tanks drive by…”
“What’s crazy to me is you were somehow able to capture that journey that I went on without ever meeting me.”

FINNEAS went on to call Amanda “brave,” admitting her openness made him feel like he knew her and Cordero.
“I can’t thank you enough for allowing me and people like me to get to know you and your family through all of this,” he shared.
The pair finally met at a celebration of Cordero’s birthday last year (2020), when FINNEAS fell in love with the late singer’s baby son, Elvis.
“As soon as I’m vaccined I can’t wait to babysit Elvis (sic),” he added.

    Oct 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Nick Cordero’s pals Meg Toohey and Sara Bareilles wept as they recorded new song “Lucky Streak” in honour of the late Broadway star.

“Nick was an incredibly vibrant and fun-loving guy,” Toohey tells People. “He loved music and loved performing. He also loved hanging ‘as one of us’ in the band room at Waitress and would talk about his band and guitars.”
She added, “The entire cast and crew loved him dearly and he brought an incredible positive light to any experience he was part of.”
“Getting to sing on Meg Toohey’s gorgeous tribute to our friend Nick was a gift,” adds Bareilles. “I wept as I sang. This song is cathartic… beautiful and bittersweet and speaks of the pain of love and loss and the gently universal truth that we must hold it all lightly and enjoy our lucky streaks; these perfectly imperfect lives. What a song.”
The pair, who wrote “Waitress”, were accompanied by the band players from the musical including Nadia Digiallonardo, Rich Mercurio, Lee Nadel, Yair Evnine, and Adam Kaufmann.
“Lucky Streak” is available to stream and download now.

  • Amanda Kloots Hits Studio to Finish Nick Cordero's New Song

    Instagram

The fitness guru hits the recording studio a month after her husband’s death as she’s adding her own verse and voice to complete his unfinished music project.
    Aug 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – Amanda Kloots is keeping late husband Nick Cordero’s legacy alive by finishing up one of his incomplete projects.
The “Rock of Ages” actor passed away last month (Jul20) after losing his battle with Covid-19 aged just 41 and, after documenting the Broadway star’s battle online, Amanda told fans she’s teamed up with family friend and composer Rickey Minor to finish a track by the late actor/singer.
“Tonight I got to work with musical legend Rickey Minor on a very special song, a Nick Cordero original,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of herself and Minor at a recording studio.
“Nick wrote a song about his losing and missing his father, called Not Far Away. He posted it on Instagram, but only wrote one verse and chorus,” she explained. “Our friend Maddox had the idea for me to write the second verse and then sing a duet with Nick. Rickey and @lennywee helped me, added our voices together, mixed and arranged it, then added beautiful strings and chimes to create this new duet.”
Amanda continued, “This was one special night… I got to sing with Nick! It was hard living up to my husbands vocals but I closed my eyes and pretended we were onstage singing this song together. I cried a lot, but Rickey guided me through it every step of the way.”
The mother of one added that she’s “so grateful” to have the song completed for her and Cordero’s 16-month-old son, Elvis Eduardo, and opened up about how “therapeutic” it has been to work on the Broadway star’s unfinished project.
“It made me feel very close to Nick, like he was with me,” Amanda admitted in a separate post on her Instagram Stories. “I’ve had a really hard last couple of days just with the things that come along with a loved one passing… I’ve been exhausted and emotionally drained, but I’ve had a lot of help, which has been wonderful.”
“Doing this tonight was therapeutic,” she reflected. “It was pretty special and it was really nice.”
