The ‘Drivers License’ hitmaker explains her new song is about an ex-girlfriend who realizes that her former lover’s new girl is literally just like her.

    Apr 2, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Olivia Rodrigo’s new song is seemingly inspired by her love life yet again. Around three months after releasing her hit breakup anthem “Driving License”, the singer dropped a new song called “Deja Vu” and its video where she witnesses her ex’s new girlfriend living her life.

The 18-year-old beauty announced the music release via Instagram on Thursday, April 1. Sharing a part of the clip, she declared, “deja vu out everywhere!!!!!” She then followed it up by posting some behind-the-scenes pictures from the music video and penned, “the ‘deja vu’ video is one of my fav things i’ve ever done.”

“Deja Vu” music video starts with her driving on the coast of Malibu, California to a place where she spots a girl trying on a green gown. She then drives back home and puts on the same dress. While she looks at herself in the mirror, the girl’s reflection appears in the corner.

In the scene, the “High School Musical: The Musical” star sings, “So when you gonna tell her that we did that too?/ She thinks it’s special, but it’s all re-used/ That was our place, I found it first/ I made the jokes you tell to her when she’s with you.” She continues to rhyme, “Do you get deja vu When she’s with you?/ Do you get deja vu?/ Do you get deja vu?”

Olivia opened up about her new song when speaking to Zane Lowe on his Apple Music’s show. “I actually wrote it about a month after writing ‘Drive’s License,’ ” she revealed. “I’m sort of obsessed with the concept of deja vu. I really love that concept [because] I get deja vu all the time.”

“So I thought it would be a cool play on words to use deja vu as a metaphor for this very universal thing that happens when you break up with someone and they get with somebody else, and see them living the life that you lived,” she added. “Yeah, it’s just a super universal thing that I think happens to everyone that we just don’t really talk about a ton.”

“The success of ‘Drivers License’ has been a huge lesson in how you just need to, when you put a song out, you just need to let it go,” the ex-girlfriend of Joshua Bassett further noted. “And it’s everyone else’s song to interpret, it’s not your song anymore.”

Olivia Rodrigo Dominates Hot 100 for 7th Week With 'Drivers License'

    Instagram

The teen singer’s hit joins Adele’s ‘Hello’, Drake’s ‘God’s Plan’ and Mariah Carey’s ‘One Sweet Day’ and ‘Fantasy’ as one of only seven songs to spend its first seven weeks on the top of the Billboard chart.

    Mar 2, 2021
AceShowbiz – Olivia Rodrigo has landed a seventh week at the top of the U.S. pop charts with her “Drivers License” hit.
The track becomes one of only seven to spend its first seven weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, joining Mariah Carey’s “One Sweet Day” and “Fantasy”, Adele’s “Hello” and Drake’s “God’s Plan”, among others.
“Drivers License” keeps Cardi B and Chris Brown from the top spot – Cardi’s “Up” jumps back up to two from five, while Brown’s “Go Crazy” collaboration with Young Thug returns to the top five at three.

Ariana Grande’s “34+35” and The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” round out the new top five.

The Weeknd’s hit extends its record of weeks in the top 10 to 51.
Since its release on January 8, “Drivers License” has also become a global hit, reaching number one on international Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music songs charts. Rodrigo and Dan Nigro penned the song, which serves as the lead single from her upcoming debut EP.
The 18-year-old singer previously revealed how she came up with the song. “I wrote the bulk of the song literally crying in my living room, and I think that it definitely has that feel to it,” she told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “I was driving around my neighborhood, actually listening to really sad songs and crying in the car, and I got home and I was like, ‘Maybe I’ll write a song about this, crying in the car.’ ”
“So, I just sat down at my piano and plucked out some chords that I liked and it kind of happened that way,” the star went on sharing. “But it was really, really natural and organic. [It was] very much me writing in the depth of my emotion.”
“The pain is definitely real in that song,” Rodrigo further explained. “I definitely think I try to approach recording all of my music from a place of emotion. I think the emotional performances are the best, even if they’re not technically the best sound.”

Sabrina Carpenter Insists She's Not Dissing Olivia Rodrigo in New Song 'Skin'

    WENN

The former ‘Girl Meets World’ star sets the record straight on the rumors suggesting she takes aim at boyfriend Joshua Bassett’s ex with her new song ‘Skin’.

    Jan 26, 2021
AceShowbiz – Sabrina Carpenter has insisted her new song “Skin” wasn’t meant as a “diss track” aimed at Olivia Rodrigo.
The former Disney star took to Instagram to respond to fans’ speculation that the tune is a response to Olivia’s “Driver’s License”, which she penned about Sabrina and her current boyfriend Joshua Bassett.
In the song, Olivia – who previously dated Joshua, with whom she stars in “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” – croons, “And you’re probably with that blonde girl, who always made me doubt.”
So when Sabrina dropped “Skin”, fans were quick to comment on the lines they took as retaliation, including, “Maybe then we could pretend / There’s no gravity in the words we write / Maybe you didn’t mean it / Maybe ‘blonde’ was the only rhyme.”

However, taking to her Instagram page, Sabrina hit back at the rumours, insisting she hadn’t intended to write a diss track about anyone in particular.
“I wasn’t bothered by a few lines in a (magnificent) song and wrote a diss track about it,” she sighed. “I was at a tipping point in my life for countless reasons. so i was inspired to do what i usually do to cope, write something that i wish i could have told myself in the past.”
“People can only get to you if you give them the power to. and a lot of people were trying to get to me. The song isn’t calling out one single person. some lines address a specific situation, while other lines address plenty of other experiences I’ve had this past year.. it also shows that many things have actually gotten under my skin.. and I’m still learning to not give other people so much power over my feelings. I know a lot of you struggle with the same thing.”
She concluded, “I don’t want this to become an endless cycle so please don’t take this as an opportunity to send more hate anyone’s way. Lots of love to u all. thanks for letting me grow (sic).”
Sabrina’s remarks come after Olivia also addressed the speculation about “Driver’s License”, saying, “I totally understand people’s curiosity with the specifics of who the song’s about and what it’s about, but to me, that’s really the least important part of the song. It’s resonating with people because of how emotional it is, and I think everything else is not important.”

Olivia said in an interview, “When I came up with ‘Drivers License’, I was going through a heartbreak that was so confusing to me, so multifaceted. Putting all those feelings into a song made everything seem so much simpler and clearer – and at the end of the day, I think that’s the whole purpose of songwriting. There’s nothing like sitting at the piano in my bedroom and writing a really sad song. It’s truly my favorite thing in the world.”
She touched many hearts around the world with her raw emotion. Expected to make a high debut on Billboard Hot 100, she has already hit the top spot in U.K, Australia, and many other countries. She also ruled the chart on various streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple, and Amazon.
On top of that, Olivia broke the Spotify record for most streams in a day for a non-Christmas tune. Released on January 8, it raked in over 15.17 million global streams on January 11 then broke its own record with over 17.01 million streams the following day. Ed Sheeran previously set the record in 2017 with 2.247 million streams for “Shape of You”.
To make her feat even sweeter, she received support from Taylor Swift as “Drivers License” trailed behind Taylor’s “Evermore” tracks. “I say that’s my baby and I’m really proud,” so Taylor gushed, to which Olivia responded in kind, “I can’t believe this. This is definitely the highlight of my senior year.”
