    Olly Alexander Confirms Reunion With Bandmate Mikey Goldsworthy

    The ‘It’s a Sin’ actor reveals one of his Years and Years bandmates is returning as a touring member, only a year after departing the group in March 2020.

    Olly Alexander has confirmed Mikey Goldsworthy is staying in Years & Years as a touring member of the band.

    The pop trio – which originally formed in 2010 – became a solo project for Olly when, in March (21), it was announced that founding members Mikey and Emre Turkmen would be departing the electropop group.

    Olly, 30, has now revealed that only Emre has left the band full-time, as bassist and keyboard player Mikey will continue to tour with him.

    He said, “I love Mikey and Emre, we met over 10 years ago when we started Years & Years.”

    “Honestly, the truth is we just changed in that time, people change, we grew apart in the way that we make music. The pandemic just made us have a totally honest conversation about where we were at and this made the most sense, it’s definitely different.”

    He added, “Mikey is still going to come on the road with us, he’ll still get some perks.”

    Olly also revealed he scrapped an entire album’s worth of songs for his third LP after deciding in lockdown that he wanted to make a record packed with up-tempo dance tunes.

    He said, “I started working on new Years & Years music straight after we released the second album back the end of 2018 and in 2019. ‘It’s a Sin’ started filming towards the end of 2019.”

    “Then last year, 2020, I scrapped all of the music I had been working on and started again because I wasn’t happy with it and I just listened wanted to listen to upbeat dance music so I was like, ‘OK, that’s what I want to make now.’ In my head it’s quite difficult to remember everything.”

    After receiving rave reviews for his performance in Russell T. Davies TV drama “It’s a Sin” – which was set during the 1980s AIDS epidemic – Olly is very keen to continue acting and is dreaming of a role in in racy Netflix period drama “Bridgerton”.

    He said, “Oh my gosh, I could be in Bridgerton Season 3, I could be a gay, something.”

      Just days after it was announced that the pop group will be changed into a solo project, the ‘Desire’ hitmaker shares his excitement to unleash new song, ‘Starstruck’.

      Olly Alexander will drop his first solo Years & Years song, “Starstruck”, on 8 April.

      The pop trio – which originally formed as a five-piece in 2010 – revealed last week, end March 21, that the 30-year-old singer will continue to front Years & Years, but as a solo project, without Mikey Goldsworthy and Emre Turkmen.

      And now the “Desire” hitmaker has confirmed his first solo Years & Years single will be released next month.

      Olly captioned the artwork for the song on Twitter: “S T A R S T R U C K april 8th i’m really really excited. (sic)”

      The group – whose debut album “Communion” was released in 2015 – said of their future in their statement last week, “Dear Y&Y fans… There’s been some changes that we want to fill you in on.”

      “This upcoming new album has been an Olly endeavour and we’ve decided that Years & Years will continue as an Olly solo project. The three of us are still good friends. Mikey will be part of the Y&Y family and play with us live and Emre will focus on being a writer/producer.”

      “These past 12 months have been crazy for us all and we want to thank you for the love and support you’ve given us over the years (& years). New Y&Y music will be coming this spring.”

      Originally, the band – whose second record “Palo Santo” dropped three years ago – also featured Noel Leeman and Olivier Subria, who both left in 2013.

      The group’s Twitter account reflects the changes as the bio reads, “hi i’m @alexander_olly and this is my music. (sic).”

      The Years and Years lead vocalist recalls ‘awkward’ conversations with his close relatives over his intimate scenes on the new drama series ‘It’s a Sin’.

      AceShowbiz – Olly Alexander prepared his family for his character’s intimate scenes in “It’s a Sin”.
      The Years & Years frontman appears as Ritchie Tozer in the U.K. drama series, which depicts the lives of gay men and their friends who lived during the HIV/AIDS crisis in Britain.
      The show has been widely praised for depicting the struggles faced by the LGBTQ+ community on screen, with the star admitting he hopes it will give young queer people “a rich understanding of themselves and where we’ve come from.”
      However, the authentic portrayal led to “awkward” interactions between the star and his family as he alerted them to the show’s sex scenes and nudity ahead of its airing.

      “I told my family, I told my mum, ‘Just so you’re aware there are some sex scenes,’ ” Olly told Variety. “I actually, I spoke to my mum recently about this, and she was like, ‘I wasn’t bothered by it at all. It didn’t make me feel funny in the slightest.’ She said because I warned her about it, she was expecting it.”
      “I had a quite awkward conversation on WhatsApp with my cousins,” he added. “But everyone was very sweet about it.”
      “It’s a Sin” was created by “Queer as Folk” ‘s Russell T Davies. All five episodes are streaming now on HBO Max.
      Olly Alexander joins the likes of Lydia West, Keeley Hawes, Shaun Dooley, Tracy Ann Oberman, Neil Patrick Harris, and Stephen Fry on the new show.
