    Orlando Bloom Questions His Ability in Delivering Intense Self-Abuse Moment for 'Retaliation'

    Taking on the role of Malky in the drama originally titled ‘Romans’, the ‘Carnival Row’ actor pays tribute to writer Geoff Thompson for giving everything to the script.

    Orlando Bloom wasn’t sure if he’d be able to act out an intimate scene in “Retaliation”.

    The 44-year-old actor plays Malky in the drama – which was originally titled “Romans” – and he paid tribute to writer Geoff Thompson for giving everything to the script as it made it easier to engage with the role.

    He told HeyUGuys.com, “I knew almost immediately I wanted to play Malky, [instinctively] I could tell I wanted to and I think that was in part to the way the character was described in the script and the way that Geoff was writing him.”

    “And then I got to this really intense moment that I think is something that I’ve never seen before on film, which we see Malky have this moment with himself which is reclaiming the experience he lived through, a sort of self-abuse, self-masturbation moment. And I was like, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before – wait a second, can I do this? What am I taking on?”

    “It was really just through great conversation with Geoff Thompson, who’s written about his life… The arch of Malky’s character is true to the arch of Jeff’s own story with abuse. He’s written really beautifully, really compassionately and really courageously about his own experience with child abuse.”

    Meanwhile, Bloom also got in touch with the 1 in 6 charity, which refers to the number of men who have been abused.

    He added, “It became very clear to me that not only did I want to step up to the challenge of playing this character, but that actually the story of Malky’s journey which really explores the destroyed nature and the terrible explosive anger and jealousy and feverish dreams and experiences of life that someone who’s unhealed and has experienced abuse like that – this needs to be told.”

      The actor cried “a tear of joy” when his wife-to-be belted out her mega-hit “Firework” during the TV special in honour of President Joe Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday (20Jan21).
      And Orlando can’t wait for the couple’s four-month-old daughter, Daisy, to be old enough to see her mother “play (her) part in a moment in history.”
      Alongside a clip of his fiancee’s powerful performance of her 2010 hit, Orlando wrote, “One day our little girl will grow up and see her mother play her part in a moment in history that we hope will heal, we hope will unite, we hope, we love.”
      “One proud partner here with a tear of joy.”

      Katy belted out “Firework” at the National Mall as the night sky was lit up behind her with an incredible firework display, with the performance quickly leading to her trending on Twitter.
      She later shared a clip of the performance on her Instagram page, writing alongside it, “Firework – Celebrating America.”

      Katy’s “Firework” performance closed out the TV special which kicked off with Bruce Springsteen’s powerful rendition of “Land of Hope & Dreams.” The Boss said, “I’m proud to be here in cold Washington, D.C.”
      It also featured Jon Bon Jovi, Demi Lovato, Justin Timberlake, John Legend, and the Foo Fighters.
      Tom Hanks served as a host, “Tonight, we ponder the United States of America, the practice of democracy, the foundations of a republic, the integrity of our Constitution, the hopes and dreams we all share for a more perfect union.”

      The 35-year-old singer is expecting her first child, a daughter, with fiance Orlando. But before the pair reached the happiest point in their romance, they had to get through more than a few problems.
      Speaking to Apple Music about her personal life, Katy explained that she took to her songwriting to recount the difficult times, saying, “For us, and you can hear that even in Champagne Problems, which is a song on the record, you can hear that we’re not flaunting how in love we are.”
      “We have been through f**king hell. We have been down to the mat and come back up again so far, and that’s even what the song Witness was about: ‘If I lost it all today, would you stay? Could you go down with me to the mat and come back up?’ ”
      Now Katy and Orlando have “come back up again” since the tough times, but the “Smile” singer insisted that they both still have to put in the work when it comes to maintaining a happy romance.
      “You’ve got to make a choice every day to be in this relationship and to work hard on yourself with someone that’s mirroring you so intensely,” she explained. “Like, he doesn’t let me rest. He’s not Katy Perry’s biggest fan. He’s here for Katheryn Hudson (Katy’s real name). He’s here for building.”
      The coronavirus pandemic meant that Katy and Orlando had to put their wedding plans on hold. However, the 35-year-old singer isn’t letting the change of plans get her down, admitting that it reminded her of the fluidity of life.
      “For us, it’s about partnership and it’s about, right now, taking it one week at a time,” she said. “We had a whole thing planned and that got canceled, so we’re just looking forward to a healthy arrival at this point in time. It’s funny. It’s like: ‘Don’t make too many plans this year because it’s a real go-with-the-flow time.’ ”

      AceShowbiz – Orlando Bloom hopes fans can look beyond the nudity in his new movie “Retaliation” and understand the lasting trauma of childhood sexual abuse.
      The 43-year-old actor appears as Malky, an adult victim of childhood sexual abuse who confronts the horrors of his past, in the movie, which premiered at the 2017 Edinburgh International Film Festival as Romans and is now available digitally and on demand in the U.S. under its new title.
      Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, however, Orlando insisted the scenes were “really just what was required,” adding, “I didn’t think about the nudity aspect. I just thought about what was required in the moment to get the job done.”
      “We talked about the shots and the nudity aspect and how it served the character and the truth of the moment,” the “Carnival Row” star shared. “I was focused more on that and obviously, I put a lot of trust in the directors, who were new and young, and had the greatest sincerity. They knew the writer very well, and their approach to the material was with real sensitivity and care. So, I felt I was serving the moment more than I was thinking about the fact that there was nudity.”
      Orlando continued, “With the sex, you see very clear how damaged Malky is, and how his damage plays out in the relationships in his life, particularly with women. His fear of intimacy, his fear of closeness, the animalistic way with which he approaches sex, and the shame around that, it’s all very palpable in the script.”
      “It’s very clear to me what was required, and then a lot of what I had gleaned from different organisations that I spoke to about male sexual abuse, it was reading up around it and researching around it. You can understand how and why people do things the way they do.”

      AceShowbiz – Orlando Bloom is among the famous faces lending their voice to a spoken word version of beloved British singer Vera Lynn’s classic wartime tune, “We’ll Meet Again”.
      Richard E Grant, Naomie Harris, and Ralph Fiennes also feature in the video, which was created to urge people in the U.K. to stay at home during lockdown to protect the NHS (National Health Service).
      The touching gesture sees celebrities join frontline workers as they take it in turns to read lines from the classic song.
      Comedian Billy Connolly and actress Gemma Arterton also appear in the footage, along with veteran star Ray Winstone, who commented, “Never was so much owed by so many to so few. The NHS. National Hero Saviours.”

      The lyrics to the Second World War song have proved significant during the Covid-19 pandemic, with opera star Katherine Jenkins uniting with Lynn for a new version of the track to benefit non-profit NHS Charities Together. It topped the U.K. iTunes chart upon its release.
      Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth II also referenced the song in a rare televised address to British citizens, where she expressed her gratitude for the efforts people are taking to stop the spread of coronavirus by self-isolating and paid tribute to frontline workers.

      AceShowbiz – Orlando Bloom is reportedly being eyed up to play Tiger King-turned-felon Joe Exotic in a new movie based on the hit real-life Netflix series.
      Released last month, March 2020, “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” follows the exploits of Joe, a prolific tiger breeder, who ran a popular illegal zoo in Oklahoma.
      While the tiger lover was sentenced to 22 years in jail for plotting to kill an animal rights activist and other wildlife violations, the shocking programme was an instant hit with fans amid the coronavirus lockdown.
      According to Britain’s The Sun newspaper, producers at 20th Century Fox are in the early stages of planning a movie based on the series, and “Pirates of the Caribbean” star Orlando is reportedly producers’ top choice for the leading role.
      “All filming is on lockdown at the moment but the studios are exploring projects they can get going on as soon as possible and they think Tiger King is the perfect story,” a movie insider said.
      “The popularity of the series has been unprecedented and they think a film about it could be even more dramatic. The film could shed light on some details behind the scenes that were not shown in the Netflix series…They think he could really bring Joe to life on screen.”
      “Tiger King” directors Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaikin claim to have recently spoken to Joe in prison, where he said he thought Brad Pitt or David Spade would be best suited to the role, while his ex-husband John Finlay tipped Shia LaBeouf or Channing Tatum for the part.
      The movie won’t be the only spin-off based on the hit show – a TV series is already in development in the U.S. focusing on Joe’s adversary, animal rights activist Carole Baskin, who will be played by “Ghostbusters” actress Kate McKinnon.
      According to People, Rob Lowe is also plotting a project inspired by the docuseries, and is re-teaming with his “9-1-1: Lone Star” creator Ryan Murphy to work on the show.
      Meanwhile, the Investigation Discovery channel has ordered a “definitive sequel” to the show, titled “Strange World of Joe Exotic”, which will be told from Joe’s point of view alone and will explore whether Carole was involved in the disappearance of her second husband Don Lewis – something which she denies.

      The 35-year-old singer announced the happy news that she and fiance Orlando Bloom are expecting a baby together in her “Never Worn White” music video, which she dropped on Wednesday night (March 04).
      At the end of the video, the camera panned away and showed Katy cradling her growing bump.
      In an Instagram Live after the video’s release, Katy told fans that the tot is due this summer.
      “There’s a lot that will be happening this summer,” she grinned. “Not only will I be giving birth, literally, but also figuratively to something you guys have been waiting for. So let’s just call it a double whammy. It’s a two-for.”

      “I am excited. We’re excited and happy and it’s probably the longest secret I’ve ever had to keep. And I like to tell you guys everything but I knew I would tell you in the best way, which is through a piece of music because that’s… I guess that’s how I speak to you. That’s how we speak together to each other.”
      Katy added that she’s been struggling with pregnancy cravings, and carries a bottle of hot sauce around with her wherever she goes. She also admitted she’s been eating “the same burrito for weeks on end.”

      After announcing her pregnancy, Katy took to Twitter to tell her fans she was “so glad” she didn’t have to “suck in” her bump any more, adding, “or carry around a big purse lol.”

      While the baby will be the first for Katy, Orlando, 43, is already father to nine-year-old son Flynn with ex-wife Miranda Kerr.
      The couple’s pregnancy news comes after they celebrated the one-year anniversary of their engagement on Valentine’s Day last month.
