'Parasite' Director Brings to Light Heartfelt Letter He Got From Martin Scorsese

    WENN/Avalon

During a press conference back in South Korea, Bong Joon Ho spills what message of support ‘The Irishman’ director gave him in the wake of his historic Oscars wins.
    Feb 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Parasite” director Bong Joon Ho was touched to receive a message of support from Martin Scorsese in the wake of his historic Oscars victory.
The filmmaker took home four top awards at the prestigious Hollywood ceremony earlier this month, with the thriller becoming the first non-English language project to claim the Best Picture prize, as well as the first to triumph in both the International Feature Film and Best Picture categories.
During a press conference back home in his native South Korea, the director revealed that Scorsese, one of his screen heroes, had sent him a letter of encouragement after his big wins.
“This morning I got a letter from Martin Scorsese,” Bong shared. “I can’t tell you what the letter said because it’s something personal. But towards the end he wrote, ‘You’ve done well. Now rest. But don’t rest for too long’.”
Bong added: “He continued by saying how he and other directors were waiting for my next movie.”
The sweet exchange emerges after Bong heaped praise on Scorsese while accepting the Best Director Oscar, for which the “Taxi Driver” icon was also nominated for “The Irishman”.
“When I was young and starting in cinema, there was a saying that I carved deep into my heart which is, ‘The most personal is the most creative’,” Bong recalled. “That quote was from our great Martin Scorsese.”

“Parasite” also earned Bong the Best Original Screenplay accolade.

'Parasite' Distributor Savagely Claps Back at Trump for Criticizing Its Oscars Win: 'He Can't Read'

    WENN/Adriana M. Barraza/Instar

President Donald Trump says during a campaign rally that this year’s Academy Awards was ‘bad’ because a non-American film got the Best Picture and slams Brad Pitt for his ‘little wise guy’ speech.
    Feb 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – Donald Trump had some things to say about the 2020 Academy Awards during a rally campaign in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Thursday, February 20. Speaking at the podium, the president attacked this year’s prize-giving event for handing out the Best Picture prize, one of the coveted awards at the ceremony, to “Parasite”.
“How bad were the Academy Awards this year?” he asked his supporters who were in attendance at the rally. Criticizing the Academy for giving Best Picture to a non-American movie, the 73-year-old went on to say, “And the winner is… a movie from South Korea! What the hell was that all that about? We’ve got enough problems with South Korea, with trade. On top of that, they give them the best movie of the year. Was it good? I don’t know. ‘Let’s get Gone With the Wind’ back, please? ‘Sunset Boulevard’. So many great movies.”
Trump added, “I thought it was best foreign film, no?” “Parasite” won both the Best Picture and Best International Feature Film, the latter of which replaced the now-defunct Best Foreign Film category.
NEON, which distributes the film in North America, didn’t take a long time to respond to Trump’s jab. Hitting back at the president, the company tweeted, “Understandable, he can’t read,” along with the hashtags #Parasite #BestPicture #Bong2020.

NEON responds after President Trump criticized ‘Parasite’ Best Picture win at Oscars.
During the rally, Trump also made it clear that he’s not a fan of Brad Pitt, mocking the actor for his political speech at the Oscars. “And then you have Brad Pitt, I was never a big fan of his. He got up, said a little wise guy thing. He’s a little wise guy,” he said of the Best Supporting Actor winner for his role in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”.
Accepting his prize at the ceremony, Pitt said at the time, “They told me I only have 45 seconds up here, which is 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton this week.” He was referencing the former national security adviser who was not allowed to testify by the Senate during the Trump impeachment hearing.
The 56-year-old star then joked that “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” helmer Quentin Tarantino might make a film about the controversial hearings. “I’m thinking maybe Quentin does a movie about it and in the end, the adults do the right thing,” he added.
Trump’s son Eric Trump later called Brad one of “smug elitists,” blaming him for the Oscars low ratings. “Probably because Americans don’t liked to be preached to by smug elitists. The elegance has been lost and America has tuned these people out of their homes…,” the third-eldest child of the president wrote along with Fox Business’ post that featured a photo of Brad at the 92nd annual prize-giving event, with the caption, “Oscars ratings fall 25% to all-time low.”

'Parasite' Director Explains Why He Has to Forbid One Cast Member From Doing Publicity Tour

    WENN/Adriana M. Barraza

Oscar winner Bong Joon Ho admits that his requirement for Park Myung Hoon to stay on the sidelines during the promotion of the acclaimed thriller movie had given the actor a hard time.
    Feb 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Parasite” director Bong Joon Ho had to hide the identity of one of his stars while promoting the film, so as not to ruin the big twist.
Park Myung Hoon was forbidden from taking part in the movie’s publicity tour, because his director wanted viewers to be surprised when his character appears.
Bong tells WENN, “It was so important to make sure that the second half of the film remained a secret, so we had all the actors and crew members sign an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) particularly from the part where the original housekeeper comes back and rings the doorbell.”
“After that we made sure that none of that was revealed to the public and ever since Cannes we put in a lot of effort to keep that a secret. Particularly the actor, who is in the bunker, who plays the husband (of the housekeeper).”
“He went to the Cannes Film Festival, but had to remain hidden. Even with the premiere screening, he had to be in a dark corner on the second floor and had to leave five minutes before the film ended and before the standing ovation to avoid all the reporters, because his existence in itself is a spoiler. He had a hard time.”
“Three weeks after the film was released we really focused on introducing him as part of the cast.”

Mark Ruffalo in Line to Take Lead Role on 'Parasite' TV Series

    WENN/Phil Lewis

Director Bong Joon Ho has reportedly teamed up with fellow Oscar winner Adam McKay in developing a new five-to-six episode series which filming is expected to begin in 2021.
    Feb 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Mark Ruffalo has been tapped for a leading role in a new television spin-off of director Bong Joon Ho’s Oscar-winning film “Parasite”.
“The Avengers” actor watched from the audience as the filmmaker pick up four trophies, including one for Best Picture, at the 92nd Academy Awards on Sunday (February 09) and now he’s in line to star in a TV series adaptation for HBO network, according to multiple reports.
Sources tell Collider director Bong is teaming with Adam McKay on the new five-to-six episode series, and Ruffalo has emerged as a frontrunner to star as one of the leads, although the exact details of the character he’ll be playing have yet to be revealed.
The filmmaker, who made history at the Oscars as “Parasite” became the first foreign language film to win the Best Picture trophy, recently opened up about some of the ideas he may include in the TV series adaptation.
“I had all these key ideas accumulated from when I started writing the script,” he told TheWrap. “I just couldn’t include all those ideas in the two-hour running time of the film, so they’re all stored in my iPad and my goal with this limited series is to create a six-hour-long film.”
The “Parasite” series is expected to begin filming in 2021.

John Legend Comes in 'Parasite' Defense Against TV Host's Racist Comments on Oscar Wins

    WENN/NEON/Twitter/Nicky Nelson

BlazeTV host Jon Miller is accused of being xenophobic after attacking South Korean director Bong Joon Ho for not speaking in English when accepting an award at the 2020 Academy Awards.
    Feb 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – While almost everyone at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles gave a standing ovation to the cast and crew of “Parasite”, there’s always going to be some naysayers. Conservative host Jon Miller is one of those haters, ripping the South Korean movie’s director Bong Joon Ho after he won Best Original Screenplay at the 92nd annual Academy Awards on Sunday, February 9.
“A man named Bong Joon Ho wins #Oscar for best original screenplay over Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and 1917,” he tweeted. Criticizing the filmmaker for not speaking in full English during his speech, Miller continued, “Acceptance speech was: ‘GREAT HONOR. THANK YOU.’ Then he proceeds to give the rest of his speech in Korean. These people are the destruction of America.”
Moments later when the movie nabbed the coveted Best Picture, Miller added in another tweet, ” ‘These people’ are obviously not Koreans but those in Hollywood awarding a foreign film that stokes flames of class warfare over 2 films I thought were more deserving simply to show how woke they are. That should be clear from the rest of what I tweeted about tonight’s production.”

He also posted, “LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL,” in response to the movie’s Best Picture win.

As Oscars and “Parasite” have become trending topics on Twitter, it didn’t take long for other users to catch the wind of his insulting comments. Firing back at the TV host for his racist remarks, John Legend wrote, “Do they pay you for these dumb takes or is this something you do for fun.”

Writer Yashar Ali, meanwhile, sarcastically asked Miller when Bong Joon Ho nabbed the Best Director award at the same ceremony, “You ok???? You gonna survive this?”
Another Twitter user blasted Miller, “Don’t even pretend it was about ‘class warefare’. You brought up his Korean name then brought up his speaking in Korean. Your tweet had nothing to do with stoking flames except those of racism.”
“Xenophobia is a hell of a drug,” wrote another. “Nah, you are. And we’re tired of your whiny, racist bulls**t. F**k off,” someone else replied to Miller’s post. “Does being a racist a** come naturally to you or did you have to work at it?” read another comment.
“It’s not an overreaction – overreactions are when you’re right but you’ve over done your response. Jon’s not right – he’s racist,” another remarked. Another person schooled Miller, “What is America to you? English-speaking white people? An America that would’ve enslaved you and I less than 200 years ago @MillerStream? No, what we saw tonight is America. An America that’s grown. A melting pot of cultures and languages. Take your self hate elsewhere.”
But Miller wasn’t the only one against “Parasite” big win at the Oscars. One commented on the movie’s big night, “I don’t like Parasit winning Best Picture Award when there is a The Irishman, as a film critic. In my opinion Parasit is very bad film. I think They want to attract attention to coronavirus.”
“They don’t deserve it,” someone else commented. A person, who is an apparent President Donald Trump supporter, added, “Calling BS.”
“Parasite” won a total of four trophies at the Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature.
